QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) There is little point is selling this low on him. At this point you give him another 300 PA before July and see what happens. If he sucks, well s***. If he shows something, hell, that's good. He needs to hit 290/330/450 to have positive value. Maybe he can do it. I'd say maybe 40/100 odds. the sox are in a bad position, who is to say that any org wants him??? i bet the sox would be happy for money to get rid of him. it is too late, just ride it out and as some has said, lets see in spring training.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Do I understand correctly that Puig's contract allows him to opt out, and into arbitration, after his 3rd year of service time? His service time will reach 3 years, during the upcoming season. That would make him just like any player on the normal "free agency clock," and nullify, what would otherwise have been, a very affordable contract. Nevertheless, he would still be quite affordable, for the next 4 years. I like the suggestion that Abreu be consulted regarding Puig's character. If Jose were confident that Puig wouldn't become a club house cancer, that would be very reassuring. you and many others makes a good point. but let me say this in a different, nicer way. if Abreu have voted off on getting him. i feel confident in saying that the sox would have at the trade deadline. since that did not happen nor any rumors so far of the sox looking at this, i think that the answer was already been given. the fans are fixated on not believing and still wants him on the team. unless someone with a known sox connection or a plain and simple article stating it, many will never believe it..... unless they see the proof. it is there, just connect the dots.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 02:40 AM) Gordon isn't a guy that I've thought about trading for, but he is really good. He just lacks pop. A 1-2 of Gordon and Eaton would be awesome though. yeah but for an infielder who has pop, that is a rarity. but as you said, he is not available. but i can dream. have you look into the mets system??? they have a load system of good defense ss. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 02:54 AM) Worst case scenario, the Sox would play Gordon at SS for one year until Anderson was ready to take over and move Gordon to 2B Otherwise, Gordon sticks at SS and with 2B up in the air, the Sox could move Anderson to 2B. Either way, that would be ALOT of defensive range up the middle. Good gravy! that is the beginning of a tough infield. btw, i like your idea of anderson and gordon. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 02:00 AM) Posters mention players ceilings all the time. That is best case scenario. The problem IMO with Avi and a lot of White Sox players recently, is they are not high baseball IQ guys, and that hurts you in so many ways. You make bad decisions on the bases, in the field, and at the plate. It takes those guys longer to adjust back after pitchers and defenses have adjusted to them. While high ceilings are great, and you need to have these guys in your organization , relying on that being reached or coming close is fools gold. crap, the was shown during last preseason during the base running drills and games with the aggressive approach that the coach was teaching....

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 03:27 AM) I read Molly Knight's great book about the Dodgers. In it are details about how the White Sox were all over Puig during the recruiting process. The Dodgers just offered so much more than anyone else even thought of offering. Pretty interesting. really i didn't know that. i was under the impression that sox only made a token offer.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 03:19 AM) Actually, no. Although I want nothing to do with Puig so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. While I like you're thinking outside the box, your plan has more moving pieces than a chess board. I've been wondering about his availability myself. Would love to add Gordon, play him at SS and bat him leadoff with Eaton #2. ref #1... i know, that is why i said it was erratic in thinking. ref #2. right now, without thinking any further i would definitely move Anderson to another position for D Gordon. i am with you -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 02:03 AM) I have to disagree there. While it was a small sample size, his MLB numbers in 2015 would translate to a .305 average with 18 homers and 100 RBI's over a full 162 game season. The Sox need a guy like him in one of the corner outfield spots. He's young, cheap, powerful, and full of potential. you are very right there, this was and has been my question. i was thinking of keeping him and throw in another pitcher. i just wasn't sold on his power. but he is one of the best young, really young hitters i have seen in a while. right there with dee gordon from the marlins. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 01:53 AM) Another thought..if the Sox were able to get a guy like Profar at SS, what's the chances of a guy with Andersons skillset transitioning from SS to 3B. Generally an easier position, but with quicker reaction times. I know Anderson is/was widely considered raw at shortstop, but I don't think I've ever really heard anybody talk about him transitioning to the hot corner. Thoughts from those that are more familiar with his defense? Referring more towards 2017 . i was trying to think like that last yr... a poster kinda of gotten mad at me. but i still think it is a valid question. hell, look at the Mets systems for ss and prospects.... defensive minded with good contact and no power.... they got a crap load of ss prospects. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 01:49 AM) This plan is crazy for the most part, but I wouldn't have any opposition to any of the deal except for a few things. • Rodon has to stay. He's a future ace making very little money. He has sky high potential. • If the Sox could get Piscotty, I'd want to keep him too. He's going to be a stud. • Quintana has more value than that trade you proposed. Other than that, everything looks ok to me. I just don't see the Sox spending that much money in free agency. Piscotty will hit.... no doubt about that. the problem i have is no power.... and no speed and can't play cf. Q is used to entice stl to keep and take melky and contract. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 01:44 AM) That Quintana deal is pretty bad because you don't get enough for Q. Packaging Q with Melky diminishes Q's value because then teams have to take on Melky's contract. Why are so many players involved in these trades? Why trade Rodon? You probably added about 60 million in payroll as well with the trade of Frazier and signings of Simon, Price, and Leake you have a point ref Q and melky yes melky will help with avg and hrs and Q is will entice the stl for melky salary and while helping the bullpen add the other pitcher from the sox to further sweeten the pot. Rodon, the team a huge influx of players and pitt can do that while helping them out ref to salary add 60 in salary maybe as i will use your number while subtracting 35 mil in salary. the sp pitcher are 3, 2, and 1 yr staggered in length.... while the sox prospects develops. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) I wanted to post this in the offseason plan thread, but it got closed for some reason, so I'll post it here instead. Here is my plan for the offseason. • Trade Avisail Garcia for Billy Hamilton • Trade Jose Quintana and Adam LaRoche for Yasiel Puig, Scott Van Slyke, and Austin Barnes • Trade Chris Beck and Tyler Danish for Jurickson Profar • Sign David Freese to a 3 year/$30 million deal • Sign Doug Fister to a 1 year/$5 million deal Lineup: LF - Adam Eaton (L) DH - Melky Cabrera (S) 1B - Jose Abreu ® RF - Yasiel Puig ® 3B - David Freese ® SS - Jurickson Profar (S) 2B - Carlos Sanchez (S) C - Tyler Flowers ® CF - Billy Hamilton (S) Rotation: SP - Chris Sale (L) SP - Carlos Rodon (L) SP - Erik Johnson ® SP - John Danks (L) (He's a placeholder for Carson Fulmer) SP - Doug Fister ® Well this is my erratic idea that i came out with last week or 2, with a few corrections. i know i may get flamed or maybe not. I am going with an idea it can be done. I am going to make this as realistic as possible. However b/c of the idea of the sox system is needing prospects and players who can play in the majors while the young prospects will develop. ^^^^ Trade ^^^ ~~ To Stl - Melky - Q - Robinson Leyer ~~ To Sox - of-S.Piscotty - of-Harrison Bader - cat-Mike Ohlman - 3b-Paul DeJong - sp-Sandy Alcantara ~~ To Pitt - now i have a feeling that Pitt wants to rebuild and get younger players while not sacrificing theirs. Furthermore, they have younger players ready to step in... 1 at 2b and the other in the outfield. Plus 3 mil for Laroche salary. - sp-Rodon - rp-Webb - 1b-LaRoche-salary swap - sp-Thad Lowry - sp-Myles Jaye ~~ To Sox - 1b-Pedro Alvarez - of-Starling Marte - of-Willy Garcia - ss/2b-Cole Tucker - sp-Chad Kuhl - sp-Yeudy Garcia ~~ To Cincy - 2b-Micah Johnson - of-S.Piscotty - 3b-Matt Davidson / change of scenery - sp-Erik Johnson - of-C Hawkins - C. Beck - N Sanburn ~~ To Sox - 3b-Todd Frazier - cat-Tucker Barnhart - sp-Cody Reed - 3b-Gavin LaValley Free Agents signing. - sp-David Price - sp-Mike Leake - 3 option yrly or buyout after 3yrs - sp-Alfredo Simón - 2 yrs option 1 optional pitcher - sp-Ryan Vogelsong 1 yr option 1 with a buyout. around the horn cat - Flowers bu Barnhart 1b - Jose Abreu 2b - Sanchez ss. - Saladino 3b - Frazier Dh - Alavarez of Eaton Marte Thompson sp Sale Price Leake Danks Simon Rp the same except Webb. money coming off the salary. anywhere from 33-36 mil being added, 19 mil in big salary now add the Free agents. crazy but i like it. -
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) I was wrong. Yes, he just has one year before free agency. So it would be pretty similar to the Jeff Shark signing. I'm sure most people would rather have Semien, Phegley, and Bassit back rather than the draft pick. but your previous post brought up something that i remember. i believe it may have came from Hahn, but lets say it came from the sox FO. the sox will not trade for a player with 1 yr left on his contract. ~~ something to that effect. in other words, they do not want to go thru another Shark and or loosing the prospects needed to get that player. what ever the reason, the sox org has already made the edict of what they will not do.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) What free agent 3B is worth a 5 year contract? and you have a point, what free agent??? the answer is simple, it is the market of the agents doing, if the agent is stating it and dictating the terms, it is up to the team to say yay or nay. then there goes the choice of #1 now remember there are not that many 3b avail??? what next.... make a trade, now we are back full circle.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) You are basically signing Walker to a 2 year deal for, let's say, $22 million PLUS giving up whatever it takes to get him which is probably 2 or 3 legit prospects. So a total waste if the Sox don't make a run in the playoffs in '16 or '17. Why would you do that instead of just paying money to Murphy or Kendrick. Also, at some point you're going to need to have some cheap homegrown talent filter onto the team at some positions. You'd be giving up on Sanchez (and Micah) who is already a plus defender who showed big improvement with the bat throughout the minors once he got more than a season of experience. You can't fill an ENTIRE team with medium-quality, expensive free agents/several year veterans (LaRoche, Melky, Walker, Freese, Asdrubal, etc.) ok maybe i am missing something. walker as it stand is making 8 mil and is in his final yr in arb. he is a fa in 17. so we are talking 1 yr and plus prospects to get him. depending on the prospects. who know. a fa for 3b is a minimum of a 5 yr contract, and at what cost?? trey and whatever prospects for 3b will be held back. let alone the cost of the contract at which someone already mention that the sox are or will be limited. next the state of this system was not done in the last few yrs but was done b/c of the ineptitude of the sox management over the course of many yrs and yet the sox will still restrict the cost to right this ship. this was done with the owners knowledge and my question is how does he expect the team to become better??
-
i have always had a problem with the idea of getting Puig. first and the exclusive one, the cost??? what will the cost be in prospects??? is this ok with J Abreu, remember they had a problem since coming to the states. is he a clubhouse cancer as the dodgers are claiming or is he too much of a prim-madonna those are my concerns.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) Agree, 100%. But the reason why there's a Avi vs Trayce discussion in the first place, is because of LaRoche. If the Sox had the ability to have a DH/OF platoon of Cabrera/Avi, then both could be kept. Again, I think both still have tremendous upside and like them both. I just dont like that they have to pick one or the other at this stage. here is an idea possibly a solution. eat laroche contract if not, bench him. move melky to dh and play avi and trace.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) All I've ever wanted for Christmas was to be wrong about Avisail Garcia i am still waiting for my xmas..... letting the owners finally know how to manage a team.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) With the shortage of 3B, he could probably make himself some cash money if he figured out how to be decent there. and the main point is, the sox fo will know or determine if he can play 3b.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) What? You said that no one mentioned to give Avi away for free or for junk? If you do get rid of him, use him as part of a package to get major league talent like a C or 3B. and that was talked about as well.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) False, Eminor wants to DFA him. and since Eminor wants to do something, does that mean no one has an idea that may be different???
