QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 04:05 AM) If Puig gains another 30 pounds, he can play DT for Da Bears. ouch..... oh that was harsh. but really funny.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 01:40 PM) "Frisaro tweets that while he hasn’t confirmed anything, he gets the sense that the Marlins covet Walker. However, he adds that the Marlins also aren’t going to give away Ozuna’s potential 30-homer bat in exchange for Elias, thus suggesting that if a trade is ultimately reached, it will be substantial in nature." All I said was I would imagine Walker's name is involved. Easy to see their interest since they have been rumored to be looking for a #2 in return for Ozuna. Last I read,Walker still carries #2 potential and a young pitcher like him is typical of what the Marlins would ask for so their interest in Walker is no surprise. Does not mean the deal happens or that Walker is traded. i have read some articles yesterday and this line keeps popping up. it is driving me crazy on how people want to use phrases for dramatic flair. it is like saying eaton has the potential to be a 20 hrs and 30 sb player.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) If there is an overused phrase it's "coop will fix em" i totally agree which bring me this. i wonder if coop could fix the hitting on the club as well.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 02:39 AM) With a lot of good young talent waiting in the wings. The goal is not 2016. The team's not winning in 2016. but the goal for the FO is to field a team that has a chance to win..... to bring out the fans, make money thru adv... etc... the sox is in a rough situation this off season. i would like to see how they do it. let me also add. at this time, before the bonus money and arb money being added, the payroll stands at 90 +/- mil... it was already stated the sox have something like 20 mil to spend. the watch is on. tic .... toc .....

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) If anyone truly wants to see how terrible a team mate Puig is read this: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/book--disdain...-212239227.html The Sox always seem to make a big deal out of wanting a quality person who is also a quality player. Puig is not a quality person. Even if his talent is a good fit for the Sox the Dodgers would surely have to undersell him to find a taker who should all be highly aware of the major clubhouse headaches they would be getting. With the Dodger OF aging fast and not really a strength of the team Puig probably stays a Dodger but they will regret it if they miss the playoffs or are eliminated from them early once again. i believe a lot of his personality of late was vaguely hinted at, esp with asking Jose A opinion discussion. but i will play devil's advocate here, every time i hear of this kind of story, regardless of the player, i keep reminding myself of the billy martin era with the yanks. how did they manage those distraction.

QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 12:26 AM) I am almost positive he was just making a joke. Yeah actually, I am positive he was making a joke. i know, i was trying on doing deadpan humor there.... which i really failed.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 12:38 AM) He hit 245 with an ops of 645 last year in AAA at the age of 25. Doesn't scream that interesting to me. that was, i think shuttle back to AAA..... before that, the previous yr was 290. either way, an invite .... what will it hurt. it is not like at this time the sox have someone knocking down the door.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 01:29 AM) I don't see them doing it. Playoff appearance (theoretically) strengthen fanbases. Also, I think the PU wants to protect the players at all costs. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 01:41 AM) That will never happen. That means 4 teams (2 from each conference) would receive byes. With a potential 7 games series, and how much the players bodies already take a beating, whoever has byes have a clear advantage. Hockey isn't like football. you both make great points, remember it was an idea. but let me further explain, the profit level of the nhl team are very close to each other, there is really no team that make an abundance more, maybe in local advertising. the reason why the nhl went to the 16 teams was to help the team make money.... the playoff audience, concessions, advertising, and what ever. then they change the series format going from best of 5 in the early rounds to what it is now, for the maxing the money. also spreading the season longer so they will be able to reap the cost of adv even more. now going to a longer season... meaning more games, it will help, also it will mean more money to max the 12 games dues to raising the cost of adv..... so with the popularity of the nhl, and what the hawks mean for the nhl success, strike while the iron is hot.... while the hawks still have that great core of players.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 11:17 PM) So now they can trade Sale for prospects. 2 different types of pitcher, rp vs sp. not yet.

Sea just DFA John Hicks - cat / 3b. he had a miscue time in the majors, but he minor numbers is very interesting. i think he can be worth a look-see.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 10:49 PM) You want to know Almonte, he's a split personality pitcher. When he overthrows, which he does semi-regularly, he's got a fastball that runs 93-95 and touches as high as 97, but it's flat and left up. Slider runs upper 80's even touching 90, and flattens out - also up. When he isn't over-throwing, he's more 91-93 with the fastball and 84-87 with the slider, the both move more and he keeps it down. When he's this guy, he's quite effective. We saw him live twice this year. Reports are here and here. Also we have video on our YT channel here. i am so-so on this trade, i was reading something earlier in the day of a pro lh-rp from San who is underrated.... i was thinking why not. but the sox may see something here that we as fans are not privy to.

QUOTE (Special K @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 10:57 PM) Two words - Tadahito Iguchi. Let's do it. it all depends on the money, but why not make the bid. i can go either way on him. but with ref to the so called experts wondering on the power transfer, didn't they thought the same on J Abreu, Kang,

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) It was pretty well known he made mechanical changes going into 2015, so we know his rebound wasn't just luck. But this is a nice in-depth look at the details of the change, which is great to see. By the way, note how Erik speaks. He's an over-analyst, always has been. Very intense. Konerko on the mound. He was that way when I interviewed him both in 2013 and 2015, and I've heard others who've spoken to him say the same thing, so it wasn't just the mood he was in at various times. It is who he is. On the one hand, that means he can adjust well. On the other, he may tend to over-adjust at times and get into deep ruts. excellent point. never thought of that, that way.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) Who replaces Q in the rotation? No matter what the Sox do, they won't fill all the holes in one off season anyway and trading Q opens a huge void in the rotation. Take Q out of the rotation and the Sox are left with Sale, Rodon, Danks, EJ and ? Montas and Fulmer aren't ready so now the Sox have to spend limited funds on a FA pitcher that will not match Q's numbers all the while making the rotation worse. Not a good idea considering the Sox play 81 games a year in a hitter friendly ball park. The Sox can sign Freese which takes care of 3B for the next two or three years while the Sox develop or trade for a young 3B. They could (speculating) try using some combination of EJ, Montas, Micah, Sanchez, Avi in a trade with the Marlins for Dee Gordon or Marcel Ozuna without taking much of a hit on ML talent. If the Sox got Gordon somehow, he takes SS. If the Sox get Ozuna, he takes over RF. Either way, the lineup and defense improve without the cost of ML talent or losing Q. Point is, there are other options the Sox can explore besides the idea of trading Q. Imo, the Sox are exploring other options and is one reason why they are still forming a plan. Rumors of EJ being on the trade block kinda goes along with what I'm getting at. For the Sox, I think the idea of trading Q is more of a fall back option if they cannot get other plans/ideas to fall into place. I'm not against trading Q, just not as willing as other fans. Just my perspective is all. you make a nice counter point, but the sox are handicap with what they can spend on the FA's.... but as you said, the sox trade Q, who will the sox replace him in the starting rotation??? it is a vicious circle this team is in this off season.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) That came out wrong. Obviously we need bats and gloves alike and I wouldn't want to just fill the team with a bunch of Tyler Saladinos. But it will be easier to acquire gloves, and they'd synergize with the strong pitching staff a bit. i am with you but now is the time to see if they can acquire anything.... remember who the owner is and the cost factor.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) I said the Sox basically have to trade Quintana because there is no other realistic way to supplement their offense. But they're not going to waste a top 40 bullet value-wise in all of baseball on an irresponsible and somewhat reckless player and person in Puig in a 1 for 1 swap. and with that.... i fully agree. this is the time to max out the rtn for a traded pitcher.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 23, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Interesting. I just looked into London in March with a couple day stopover in Iceland and it's about $700. Not bad at all. oh man, i loved london and scotland... when i retired i took my family up there for 3 1/2 weeks. what a great time. i think it was better than rome. but be prepared on what london folks thinks of a good meal, esp for breakfast. btw, i hated paris. Iceland.... ummm that would be interesting.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) So the Sox would have a good rotation but horrible offense. That's not going to work. Unfortunately it's the you have to give something in order to get something. The Sox have some nice prospects but not enough to fill all the holes in the offense. Trading multiple prospects and emptying the farm system is not going to work. The only real option is to trade Quintana for a small army of hitters to help. Sox can absorb Quintana loss a bit more. i agree with this idea for a long time now. i can see trading a Q or a Rodon for, as you said it nicely, an army of hitters. i still think the sox can get rid of the some of the extra prospects that may see themselves on the outside looking in, like beck, danish, ej (depending on other factors), even micah johnson, to name a few. keeping a certain core untouchable. the system will need thinning out, in the next 2 yrs. might as well do some of it now.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) Yeah, thats what I just said. oops i didn't see it that way from your all la-sox idea of trading. my bad.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) I don't WANT the Sox to trade Q either. But they've put themselves in a situation where they basically have to take him if they want to contend because the offense is so poor. I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if the Sox traded Quintana, but it's not going to be for Puig straight up. They're not going to waste that bullet. The only way I could see something like this happening is a trade another poster suggested previously. Puig Austin Barnes Scott Van Slyke Top 10 prospect in LAD system For Q LaRoche Allows the Sox to move Melky to dh. Outfield defense vastly improves. Saves the $ on Laroches contract to reinvest. I don't think that'll happen - but it's the only way a Puig-Q exchange starts to make sense. But I believe the Sox could and will do better. Think Cole Hamels package plus. with the idea of the la - sox trade aside, the sox has too many holes that the owners will not fill thru fa's. so a trade has to come thru the pipeline. that is the only way to fix holes in the roster with maybe 1 major trade of a player and other less significant players being move, to get those missing pieces.

i am bored, no movement on the sox part, this circus trip seems to be more boring, that that is my point. as the season is getting longer and longer, the nhl is still playing the same amount of games. i am wondering it the powers to be from both the nhl and the players union have thought, maybe it is time to go with a 100 season and maybe tighten up the playoff. meaning 16 team makes the playoff. knock that down to 12.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) The one thing that has totally changed the last 20-25 years with fans evaluating pitchers, is velocity. Back then you would watch a game on TV or at the park and have no idea if a guy is throwing 92 or 95. Now you do, and it makes all the difference in the world. I just wonder with the way the game is played these days when batters rarely face the same guy more than twice, if the pendulum will eventually swing the other way. If all you see is 95-100, eventually you probably get at least a little used to it. The junkballer may become really unique. EXCELLENT analysis..... i didn't think you had it you. but here is my example to what you just posted. Mark Buehrle, in the beginning, i always assumed that he must be throwing in the mid 90's b/c of his success... when all the tech comes out and shows in reality a whole different story. now for the second part, the hitters today are so advance and i believe they will adjust as they see the pitchers, on game day. nice post.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 03:32 AM) I actually don't think it's an "advanced stats" thing -- his last three years, in terms of the "traditional" innings and ERA, have been REMARKABLY similar, and since his injury his DIPS stats have never really painted much of a different picture than his run-based stats in the first place. In a low offensive environment like we're in, a 4.75 ERA just isn't very good. But yeah, I'm not saying he's always sucked. I think we probably overrated him pre-surgery, but there's no question he was a very good pitcher. He's just not the same guy after his shoulder issues. It's not his fault or anything. many thanks for the kind words, but what i was trying to say is, there is no stats from him on a post surgery except for the ones he makes. all pitchers handles this kind of surgery different. what i truly believe many posters are looking at, it his salary. he got extremely lucky and signed a going contract before his injury and if he can't get back to that level, he is set up for himself and family. this i will not begrudge him for. it is just shiittty luck that the sox have had.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 12:47 PM) People need to get this through their minds.... The White Sox are not trading Jose Quintana unless someone gives them an offer they cannot refuse including multiple young, controllable offensive assets. The Dodgers can "push" for Q all they'd like in exchange for Puig - there is no way in hell Hahn makes that trade. If he would make that trade, it'd be done already. Please, enough with the Q for Puig garbage. i am with you as well, i even said something like this before..... however, i really don't think anyone here really expects something like this. i do trust the FO of not being too stupid to make this lousy trade work. again, however, this is a forum and this is friendly bantering, harmless and entertaining. this also proves that we the fans are craving any sort of new baseball news affecting our team, even if it is a "what if" dream. it kill the time and add something to read.
