  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) I'm not impressed at all with Zimmermann. Look at the teams Zimmermann faced in the NLE as far as runs scored. Philli ranked 27th, the Braves ranked 29, the Marlins ranked 30th and the Mets 17th who's offense was bad before they made trades at the deadline and became one of the top offenses in the second half. Overall, Zimmermann faced some pretty pathetic offenses within his division despite Philli owning him to the tune of a 7.27era, lol. Oh and if his inter- league ERA of 4.91 is any kind of sign, the Tigers will be regretting this contract in no time. I'm glad Detroit signed him. for me, and my opinion, zimmermann going into the 2015 season may have been interesting to me, again i was like you, skeptical and i wanted to see how the season ended with him. now, at what he signed for, too much .... but i guess that is the going rate.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) It was worthy to add because you have to go with what you feel is the best player at that point. Not just a position. I remember at the draft last year, they interviewed the Rockies GM after they took Brendan Rodgers. He said they took a pitcher but he wasn't their highest rated player overall, but a team need. They took Tyler Anderson. Kolton Wong, Blake Swihart, and Joe Panik all were picked after Anderson that were rated higher. again, think of what i am talking about. we are discussing players to keep an eye on for the next season ncaa games. you are not going to get out of this was some lame arse excuse. give it up. come on really kool and tell all who is posting you know what you are talking about, take the BPA. real lame. if you have anything to add about players to keep an eye for next yr, belly up.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) You should read the book: Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer. You'll get lots of character study in there. Excellent book. i stayed up to all hours reading on everything i can about this climb..... the main guy, it is a shame, he was never able to see him new child. the other person who lost his 2 hand, nose, eye and facial skin around the eyebrows and chin and cheeks,.... in the move, you could tell something was going to happen. that scott guy, i wish i know more about what happen, i am wondering a lot of questions. as i said, it was intense and suspenseful.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) Chris Okey could be there at #10 as well but it's so very early. you are correct, but some discussion will help look and identify players to keep a track on them, well that is how i like to do it. okey, i am not sold... an avg at best catcher, going at #10.... i still think he will drop out of the first round, esp if he doesn't pick his game up.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) We've been over this. You draft BPA, no matter the position in the first couple rounds. Draft for need in the later rounds. if you really don't have anything worth while to add in the conversation, don't respond.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Mockingjay was the worst of the books as well. I really like the series and the first book is a classic but the 3rd story was rushed and you can tell throughout. excellent opinion. i agree and in the book thread i was saying something like what you said. now if you look at the scorch trails, maze runner. outside the 1 book the rest sucked big time, even worst than the final twilite book. but here is where a great screen writer comes in. for the movie, he practically rewrote it and the move was 1,000 x better than the book. oh, they, the movie industry wanted closure and 2 moves for the $$$$. that final movie is all profit. 100% of it.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) I would say that Ray from Louisville is an early favorite with his ties to the ACE Academy. Should be a fun season with so many high picks i know what you mean, ray would be excellent, but the org need for a cat and 3b and even a good dh if 1b is manned, is what i have been looking at. with pitching, i am a minority here, but i still like puk as the #1 player / sp in the whole draft. dang it, i can't wait for the freaking ncaa baseball season to start. the cape cod was really uneventful for me.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) I hear ya and agree. I can live with Saladino/Sanchez up the middle for one season to see if their bats come around but my preference would be to get a SS, play Sanchez at 2B and use Saladino as the utility/platoon type. Problem with that is short stops are about as hard to come by as third baseman. One idea could be to sign Freese to play 3B, trade for Lawrie to play 2B, start Saladino at SS and use Sanchez as the utility. I still prefer Saladino as the utility due to his defensive versatility. The have their work cut out for them this off season. this morning, excellent discussion going.
  9. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) Some new names to add to the list of interesting position players: Kyle Lewis Delvin Perez Zack Collins Willie Abreu in my uneducated, unpro opinion, zach collins is #2 in hitting of the whole draft, well meaning he is an interesting player with power, hitting skills. now some experts are questioning if he will or could transfer his defensive skill to stay as catcher. imp the best pwer hitter is Bobby Dalbec, - 3b and they do not know if he is good enuf to stay at 3b. but when his hitting power is compared to kris bryant - cubs, and stanton of miani, you will need to take notice. but my disclaimer, we as fans need to see another season of college ball and see how they develop.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) You should read the book: Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer. You'll get lots of character study in there. Excellent book. excellent , i will i am always looking for somethng new to read.
  11. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 06:32 AM) I have always been curious, where are you from? i was born and raise in chi in the little village area..... actually on 25 and calfornia .... went to grammar school at st roman and hs at harrison hs. now i live in Louisiana since 1997
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:26 AM) Every team takes gambles that don't work out. One way to look at it is by Noesi being so bad, he opened the door for Rodon. If the Sox had signed a FA pitcher last winter, Rodon might not have gotten the opportunity when he did not have accumulated the innings or MLB experience. Sometimes s*** just works itself out. I'm going to leave this part alone now just because the conversation is teetering on the brink of how much we may or may not think the Sox had or have to spend. I don't know so its better if I stay away from the speculation on White Sox finances and stick with what is known. I prefer to stay focused on what they will do to help the team going forward, not where they have gone wrong. kool with me,
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:31 AM) Would you say that he's been on a -wait for it....hiatus i would never assume anything with him. but he is funny ....
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 03:15 AM) The meetings are next week? Jesus. how is it going, long time no see.
  15. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) But they did spend. Robertson, Melky,LaRoche, Duke and added Samardzija's 9.8M to the payroll so they did spend plenty. They probably didn't add another pitcher because they had been anticipating Rodon joining the team at some point, which he did. The point in all this is that the Sox have showed they are willing to spend and make an effort. It could be much worse, we could be Marlin fans! but they also failed in hector sucking big time. that did not help. last yr was just a nightmare. but spending 120 mil and i am talking about spending 150 mil. that would be them on the cusp of their profit, according to what i have been able to pencil together. but that is for another time. but for this discussion, this will put them in the red.... for 1 yr .... 28 mil comes off and now its 122. and the team would have done wonders in piecing the team they can live or want.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 02:14 AM) Relax, have a drink on me. We have plenty of time left in the off season to get the team pointed in the right direction. I still have faith in Hahn. i wasn't angry, i just got confuse.... my mind, what little there was, was spinning with all sorts of counters. i just left to get some rest and now i am back. i still don't know what my point was. but i am with you, i too have faith in Hahn and that is if the powers to be would not handicap him. so may ways to go right now. but i really do not want to so to sign upton. i understand if they do, but a waste of money. be creative and make some trades.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 03:02 AM) you are looking at the lite at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. last yr, money was spent and i was happy, but i really wanted another pitcher. but either way, they didn't spend and it was a lousy season. the 2 were not related. the crosstown team is at 110 and looking to increase their payroll as you said to 130-140. i think they will hit the 150 range. now for me, i do not follow them so i wouldn't know if they are solvent at 130-150. and i am not comparing them against each other on this whole thing. i am talking and i will be more precise, the payroll before last yr was set and etc.... i will not go into that whole thing. suffice it to say, all during the time the sox had a strict budget. you know.... you really got my goat.... i wounded up writing gibberish... i really do not know what in hell was the point i was going for. dang.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 02:37 AM) Sorry my man but I have to stick up for the Sox on this one and point a few things out. 1- they spent last winter and things didn't go well but they did show an effort to improve some areas so that gives me some faith they will continue to improve. 2- we don't know what the budget has been set at. 3- the crosstown rivals are looking at a budget in the 130-140M range which is just a tick more than where the Sox could end up. When comparing their respective attendances, that's kind of surprising to see the two budgets that close. It wasn't long ago the Sox were up to 128M so don't lose hope yet. you are looking at the lite at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. last yr, money was spent and i was happy, but i really wanted another pitcher. but either way, they didn't spend and it was a lousy season. the 2 were not related. the crosstown team is at 110 and looking to increase their payroll as you said to 130-140. i think they will hit the 150 range. now for me, i do not follow them so i wouldn't know if they are solvent at 130-150. and i am not comparing them against each other on this whole thing. i am talking and i will be more precise, the payroll before last yr was set and etc.... i will not go into that whole thing. suffice it to say, all during the time the sox had a strict budget.
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 02:43 AM) I just posted this in another thread but the Sox spent pretty big last year so while there were some duds in '15 it does show the Sox are trying. Paulino's hype was built around his stuff and upside but we all knew there was risk with him coming off of surgery. It's not like Paulino cost the Sox big money. He was the typical low risk high reward type of signing, unfortunately the high reward part didn't come to fruition. it cost the sox 2 mil.... to have a fake injury. but my point is that was all they spent. they should have had another sp as in emergency, and they didn't. just spend enuf and call it a day. same thing with hector last yr, conor last yr. just the bare minimum, instead of a couple and let them compete against each other.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 02:22 AM) I think they will continue searching for talent. Let's say the Sox win the bid and sign Hwang, they can still trade for a guy like Lawrie and/or even your favorite... CarGo! and they should, but they won't. it is not like them to do that. remember the signing and all the pr flak on Felipe Paulino and that he is the real thing.
  21. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 01:06 AM) I think that should be a pretty telling sign that the real problem with this organization and developing talent in the past starts with actually picking the talent and not developing it. Not that the developing part has gone swimmingly either, but it gets a lot harder to develop talent when the talent is flawed from the beginning. but you are missing an important ingredient, as long as it fits in a miserly budget that is called the sox payroll.
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 01:10 AM) I like Hwang's defense, that's for sure. This would be a good move for a few reasons. 1- Hwang's defense 2- he won't cost a pick to sign 3- he won't cost prospects or young MLB talent. 4- Sox can then use prospects and/or talent ( Avi/Micah/Sanchez/EJ/Saladino, Montas) to find a SS and or OF. There's risk involved but let's face it, the Sox are in a position where they must take a few risks. i agree they are in no position to select one player and assume that he will succeed, they need to cast a wide net and bring in many as they can of players at least to continue with this elusive 3 yr plan the FO has step up.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 11:25 PM) Nah, he just needs to be tested for antipsychotic's to make sure he is taking them. Which I don't believe he is... i was thinking more along the line of PED.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 11:45 PM) Based on what? Thompson's 800+OPS and impeccable defense when he played? Sanchez' first year, where he too played excellent defense? And yet somehow we are supposed to believe that Brett Lawrie is a plus player in this league???? Bottom line is Sox fans as a group, just like the front office, have zero patience with youth. Zero. They would much rather trade them all in for players who are proven to be mediocre. Thus, in my 48 years of following this team, there have been 5 playoff appearances. Five in 48. But we had those veterans and plenty of heroes. So let's go do another Swisher trade for Lawrie. i will try to defend myself with the same excuse that i think most would use on this site, it all stems from the owners to win now mentality. no patience for the development of prospects and remember KW interview in the late 90's. he was trying to explain how win now is better than developing players. you trade young players for establish so the sox doesn't have to deal with the learning curve. however at this point, the system was sooo screwed up by the ineptitude of the gm and with the blessing of the owner. now the team is in a race to field a team so it doesn't waste the careers of sale , jose a and pitcers like Q and rodon. this race is what may force the org to make some radical corrections. what a total cluster fvvck the sox fo was in the 2000's. i still don't know how they won the world series.
  25. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 11:43 PM) My bad, it was his elbow. Thanks for correcting my memory. serious, i wasn't trying to, i was just wasn't sure on all his injuries. i believe he had 2 elbow procedures on the same elbow .... but when you mention shoulder, i thought i was wrong. either way. many thanks.
