  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) I would've liked Aoki on the Sox, but there wouldn't have been any room for him unless Avi was traded or Melky moved to the DH spot. even then, there is little power in the bat. the sox at this stage should be looking at a player who is above avg on defense and has a nice bat. someone who is a starter instead a 4 or 5th of'er
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) No offense, but there's already 2 threads filled with Price signing opinions. really i didn't know that other one was really for the post idea of price signing and what it means. not that price sign a contract. my bad, i thought it was 2 different subject.
  3. well the blackhawks lost 2-1 in regulation play. someone mention, the first game back is an important game, why???
  4. i would really appreciate many posters opinion and if possible why you like the signing or if you don't????
  5. wow, what a positive move by bos..... he opened the door to a lot of possibilities for the sox and how to improve them selves. what i find comical is one poster who was adamant to the point of being hostile is now, 1 week later saying what many are posting today. what an idiot he is. jumping without looking or thinking. but this can reap the sox a lot of positive future move, now i am really excited on what can be done. if the sox can do some smart trades, they can rebound on that horrible season that was 2015.
  6. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 05:16 AM) Makes some sense to me. Thanks. well i will put out my normal disclaimer in saying that this is my opinion but i think some one else to step in and maybe answer this better than i. i hope that mod / admin poster will chime in, he played ball and i would trust his opinion. but thanks for the time to post back.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 04:30 AM) Arizona wouldn't give up Pollock for Miller. Pollock put up a 6.6 fWAR last season. He's young and extremely cheap. DBacks should keep him with Peralta and Goldschmidt going forward. i really never considered Arz as a trade partner, well b/c they have a young nucleus of players that will be able to slid into the lineup. i just didn't think they will trade them away. i guess they will, if the price is right. they need a really good SP.
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 06:06 AM) You harp on endlessly about "hero worship" yet think Price is worth that contract? no offense but i agree with the idea that price is worth his contract. he help shows the fan base including the season ticket holder and the fans with premium seating that they are out for business. we help in more local adv coming in, to the stadium adv, players adv, team logo selling adv, local tv commercial adv, more new corp adv money.... and help with the tv games for out of st fans. plus many more i can't even think. the rtn on the invested money will be a whirl wind. this is why i said and mention signing a Heyward, plus getting an additional sp on the cheap, and 1 very smart and savvy trade to replenish the system, will do wonders for the sox, maybe not like bos. the sox needs a big influx of positive media to do what they can't afford like getting of a Price contract.
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 04:38 AM) That could take awhile. agree and the sox do not have a while. i would even go to some of the teams that has comp picks and make a trade for that pick, to hurry the rebuilding of the minor team talent pool.... if only the sox would have over spent on 1 yr of int't draft.
  10. QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) This. Only other way I see them turning things around is if they dip into the minors. There's not many guys down there you can trade who will get you what you need. Would you rather A. Trade Q. B. Blow up the minors C. Count on Free Agents? D. Waiting for the Sox to develop some hitters could take awhile so you might as well do A. Trade Q, get your small army of hitters, play for 2017 when you got Sale-Rodon-Fulmer-EJ and either someone like Montas/Adams/Danish/Guerrero/Beck or a veteran SP. i would say trade Q for that army of players.... not only hitter, but players and hopeful a close to majors catcher.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 01:44 AM) It's easy to say trade Sale or Q and get a haul but its another thing finding a team willing to give up that haul. It would have to be a mix a Major and Minor league talent to make that trade happen because no team is going to empty their farm for one player. Sure, there are teams that have the blend of talent to offer but are they willing to or desperate enough to offer it? and that is the question. i don't know, if a team is lacking but a pitcher and the sox have it, then maybe.... but again this is all pure fantasy on my part.
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 11:42 PM) I think the question is, who would trade the farm? It was hard to imagine their values before but now, sheesh! I don't see any team giving up true value for Sale or Q. I give Hahn tons of credit for getting those two locked up long term. Imo, today's market dictates the Sox cannot afford to trade Sale or Q no matter how bad the offense is. it like those fantasy mock trades that some were coming up with.... an i am probably a huge culprit in that with a several big mock. .... but it still make sense to me to be getting a haul, now this thing today vindicate what i was saying. either way, hahn and company will have a great window of opportunity
  13. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 12:26 AM) They didnt even extend him an offer really, i am surprise on that news. wow.
  14. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 01:49 AM) Wait, let's examine this. Their value is sky high........so we're not going to trade them? I hope Hahn is willing to examine any possibility, every scenario, for improving this ballclub. If someone wants to overpay you hand either over immediately. And before the inevitable, " we'll never receive fair value," you base every trade proposal independent of others. What will we receive? How many of our holes are filled? This is why us hardcore fans are the best and worst for trade scenarios. We understand our ballclub more than anyone else, but we're so blinded by fan loyalty and our own biases that we can't remove ourselves and make an impartial evaluation of this team. Unless there's a substantial and unexpected offensive upgrade across the entire team, we won't compete. Now, how can we improve that? Platooning Avila and Flowers is only a small step. Granted, there's time to upgrade and I'm not critizing Hahn (yet) but he's not going to build a playoff team based on FA. Someone needs to go, and more than likely, it's going to be Quintana. the best case is to move a sp for those pieces to fix the team. esp in getting the rtn of some young pitchers as well.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 02:18 AM) Interesting that beginning the day he was thinking he was going to STL for 7/185. Dombrowski is going for it as usual. yeah i agree . i was thinking of stl
  16. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) I'm not advocating for signing Heyward (too many holes to put it all on one player), but free agents are usually terrible deals because you're getting them after their prime years are over, so there's a lot more risk and you're paying a lot for their declining years. This would not be the case with Heyward. i agree about the holes. but signing a heyward, it would be a great pr move and on the level to compete in the chi market during baseball time....
  17. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 01:58 AM) Few things. -Price can opt out after 3 years so if he pitches well, he's most likely going to cash in again. Overall it's not a bad deal and it makes the Red Sox better instantly. -Once rumors started last week that Boston "was not going to be outbid" for Price, it was clear where Price was going. -No one on the Sox should be untradeable right now unless you like watching a 69-75 win team every year. i will admit i was wrong, i really thought it was a smoke screen. for what??? i do not know.
  18. QUOTE (bruni @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 12:15 AM) Well if the Dodgers lose out on Grienke and the Cubs don't come away with a top of the rotation starter, perhaps they will be more anxious to grossly overpay for a WSox pitcher, but I doubt the WSox go that route esp now unless it is a Hershel Walker-esque, Vikings-Cowboys deal in terms of lopsidedness... the dodgers can let zach walk to the gaints. talk about the rivalry. the northside will sign shark if all else fail. or maybe cueto.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 12:13 AM) 1.) you can have her 2.) not even in the same universe as the new mrs. My girl now - jeez, I'm telling you guys... She was named cheerleader of the year by a sports publication and is in swimsuit calendars. It's like every teenage boys dream girl walked right off the poster on the wall and into my life. It's been completely bats*** crazy lately but I feel very blessed. Thanks for the support gang - funny place to vocalize some of this and funny place to get some support. excellent for your new luck .... well done friend. plus i gots to give you double credit for that phrase i haven't seen or used in quite some time. batshiite crazy.
  20. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 11:04 PM) Yeah this was my thought. Sox could have a real good opportunity to cash in on Quintana after teams see this deal. it will all depends on the players coming back on the rtn for the trade. there are only several team that can really sweeten that idea of a trade.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 11:58 PM) Cub talking heads have been in full force the last couple of days in the Chicago media Basically said the contracts were looking to be too rich and the second tier guys behind Lester and Arrieta are what they need, not top of the line guys. I still think the debt and infrastructure costs are what is getting them The fact the Cardinals were going that high makes me think they are spending somewhere big this offseason make no bones on that, stl was in the hunt according to the stl news yesterday. but 30 mil???? maybe it is too rich for them and they just signed a new tv deal i think.
  22. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:53 PM) Why does that seem to be the case with soooo many catchers (wondering if he can stay at catcher)? You hear that all the time. i am no expert and i am more than sure some posters on this site will be able to answer better than i, esp that one mod who played ball. but the concentration level to catch, the training for being a catcher, the legs, knee, back and even the butt exercise to handle that position. now i remember a abc thing on a sat about catchers and something for the fans. well bench, fisk and several more catchers were talking about how much work they had to do with catching and being conscious of the total pkg, hitting and catching and how hard it is. well today, the org wants to make it easier on the players.... methinks.
  23. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 11:53 PM) He elected to go to free agency. I know he has been a name that has been thrown around here the last couple years. I would like to bring him in, I think he still has good upside even though his numbers away from Coors have been pretty bad. that is the key factor... his avg away from coors.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) David Price 30 mill a year for seven years? Sox better adopt a new bargain basement strategy like the Royals did. Unless we're being lied to ... Sox can't afford that kind of jack, the new going price (no pun intended) for free agents. Raise those hot dog prices now, Red Sox. 20 bucks a hot dog sounds about right; 30 bucks for a beer should do it. Maybe a 17 dollar sale on nachos and 200 dollars to park. Might as well raise parking to a couple hundred per game. here is the thing, the sox start to put a winning team with a winning results, fans will come back, and then the tv deal will be up for renewal.... that is where the money will come from.... oops, i forgot, the sox own the tv station.
  25. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) Red Sox overpaid, but the Greinke deal will be more of an overpay. Guy is going to regress hard next year. but now the market is set, the dodgers have the money, i can see the dodgers doing it.
