  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:51 PM) That's why I think that this is a pretty savvy pick. It's not like he has a resume that dwarfs Ventura's. I think he did a good job with the Cubs and is a much better manager than Ventura, but Ventura shouldn't feel a long shadow above him with Renteria never thought of it that way. i like the thinking. you are right.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:56 PM) I don't think they'd trade Rizzo personally. He's their captain now on a team friendly deal just as team friendly as Q. anyone other than him and russell, the deal would not be fair.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:50 PM) There would be a fit if we were rebuilding and we're a few years away so adding lower level guys made sense but we're likely trying to compete now so it doesn't. good point, i would easily make Q for a hand full of their top 10 prospects. but the problem is, and i think someone already said this, they could easly go for a sp like price .... they have the money.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) If you listen to Cubs fans they only want to trade their junk: Castro, Soler, etc. (Soler and Castro aggregated to a .9 WAR last year). But even if Theo is willing to make an honest trade, I just don't see a matchup. Who do they have that we want? Any ML ready C or 3B? I know they have some guys in low minors, but I just don't see the fit. Now, I can see fits with Boston, the number 1 player-hype machine in MLB (Cubs still #2). But not Cubs. really i am being serious, if the northsiders were willing and so the sox, how can they make a trade that will be in equal value. for me, i would want Rizzo, Russell and a minor leaguer in the top 5 range. for Q and a rp or rp prospect.
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:36 PM) How exactly were we fleeced? i know this question wasn't for me, but for this discussion. i have never been a big fan of Shark, next and for this discussion, Semien played ss for oak, i never thought of him as a ss and his stats were ok, except for his defense. again at ss. next i was always a fan of the hound and they have him as a sp, i always thought he was more of rp. all these were traded for an idea of shark leading the team to the playoff. but all that can change with the draft pick in next yr draft. just my take.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:31 PM) Oh I know, I wasn't insulting you or anything like that. It's just that Epstein is out of his freaking mind if he thinks the Sox would accept a deal anything remotely close to that. hahaha. that is funny..... even if it isn't... i think it is. that is the way my day went. it all kool.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:27 PM) There is so much wrong with this that I don't even know where to start. 1. Why would the Sox want Castro or Ross? 2. Even if they did want them, why would they trade Q or Rodon for them? 3. Who is Hannemann? 4. The Cubs and Sox won't be making any blockbuster deals any time soon. this is from Theo pov of what is a fair trade. btw, i am being snarky that is why the green .... Hanneman is the 30th prospect of the northsider and is 25 i think.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:27 PM) You might have to move a Shaw and a pick. do you really think Shaw would be enuf??? i don't.... i envision someone like Tevo. remember, no team will help a 2x SC team.
  9. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) So, the way I see it, in last year's Stanley Cup playoff run you had four defensemen taking the brunt of the ice time. Problem is, Oduya is gone, and his replacement is Trevor Daley, who is a throwaway at best. Who could the Blackhawks move? if i remember correctly and on this is do, Daley was a throw in for salary reasons to make the trade possible. what the hawks need to do was to trade him quickly. now i still would do a trade with daley in mind to a team that can absorb his salary and be looking at an additional prospects plus a 2nd rounder. now i have been critical of SB before, but this is no fault of his, sharp screwed up and forcing this trade. i just wasn't sure why SB didn't look to move him. questions for those who knows. i looked and i can't find anything. if a nhl player is traded, does he and the team have to wait a certain amount of time before the team moves him???
  10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:04 AM) Theo on a trade w with White Sox: “I’d be up for it. If it helps both teams on the surface, why not?” https://twitter.com/ESPNChiCubs/status/663853671172599808 here is my translation. as long as it helps both teams, from the sCrubs, ss/3b - Castro, c-Ross and they would throw in 3b - Hannemann for either Q or Rodon.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) I like the idea of trading pitching prospects for hitting prospects, makes a ton of sense. Yep, I do. A LF that should: upgrade LF defense, hit for a decent average and draw walks. Could turn into a solid #2 hitter and be cheaper than Melky. I know Melky isn't worth much but I think he could be traded to make room for Son. I would rather keep Melky and trade LaRoche but, I digress. I hope the Sox do go after Son. it just goes back to this..... i can't freaking wait for something to happen, and the GM meeting. i still think it will be an interesting off season.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:34 PM) Why? A relatively light hitting corner OF? I am all about moving Melky to DH, but not sure this guy is reason why. i was along the same line, if his stats were like this in his league, i really doubt he would be better in the mlb.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) If a manager is fired mid-season, then yeah, a coach gets the job on an interim basis, but probably not permanently. If the manager is bad enough to fire mid-season, then you probably are pretty dissatisfied with the coaching staff as a whole and not just the manager. Besides, the Sox aren't the kind of organization that is going to fire a manager mid-season unless it's some kind of conduct issue. you make an excellent point many thanks. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) RV has more experience than Renteria as being a manager. Renteria is not there to be his mentor. Maybe he is there as waiting in the wings like Sandy Alomar suggested with his decline of the position but certainly not to mentor the manager. this was what i was looking for. i just don't know crap on Renteria and i was lost. excellent point on the sandy alomar comment. i agree.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Maybe someone can find a counterexample, but if a manager gets fired, it's pretty rare for a member of his coaching staff to get the promotion. If the manager resigns/retires, maybe, but not fired. i know we are talking about for this discussion. but if a manager gets fires during a season, doesn't it usually go to a coach for the interim base.
  15. according to a hockey site i visit and some may not like or trust, it was mention that Q and the hawks FO are looking to trade for a dman. even though some of the injured dmans may be coming back sooner than expected. it is really going to be hard to find room, due to salary cap restrictions. i just can't see it. plus, has anyone really been disappointed in Darling play this season???

    2015 Films thread

well, i am wondering if any saw the james bond movie. if so, how did you like it when they brought back the vintage RR from Goldfinger???
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) They are both extremely flawed players. I wouldnt want them in any package. thank you, for me, i am done .... on this subject.
  18. this was just announce on MLB trade rumors. Ah-seop Son will be posted next week. does anyone think the sox will enter a bid???
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) I always enjoy the Cubs fans trade thoughts. Let's give them Baez or Castro for Rodon or Sale...yeah that'll work Baez and Castro would be horrible whether in a larger pkg or not. i really don't see the excitement in them. just my opinion.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) He was doing a good job with the Cubs. It's just that Maddon was made available. here is my question, i do not know nothing of Renteria. but is he really a good coach??? does anyone think he is a mentor for RV while on the bench to teach him the finer points of the game?? can he be the next manager after RV??
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 06:57 PM) I am under no illusion he would get 500-600 plate appearances. I posted he won't make it through the season. I don't even know if he would make it to game 1, but IMO, it's worth a shot if he's healthy enough to play in spring training. Perhaps his familiarity with the White Sox and their training staff makes it attractive. whether it is a good move or not, this is something that the sox owners may do.
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) We don't even know they made a bid. so all the tweets or post of the cubs being involve, they are wrong, again this is for this discussion. if you don't want to continue, just explain why you disagree..... it is easy, many does it.
  23. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) Who cares? They didn't win the bid. Why even talk about it? if you don't like it, skip over it. no one is forcing you to read this.
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 07:43 PM) Are there concerns that he will? in some cases, there should be a little concerned but not with Shark, i really think he really burnt that bridge of coming back. it would take a miracle to be proven wrong.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) And their defense looks embarrassingly bad. Sano anywhere but DH is a good news for the Sox. Sano at 3B and/or LF for more than a handful of games would be comical. Assuming Park isn't much of a defender, so he'd probably find himself at DH most of the time with Mauer at 1B (if they get the deal done). But Joe will need his rest, so Park will definitely get some time in the field. The Twins really screwed the pooch with Mauer. He is plenty athletic enough to play other positions. THey should have stuck with him in the OF, or at least given him a chance at 3B. you make a great point, the uncertainty of his defense is a factor, an unknown factor. that is why having a AL team win the bidding process helps, the DH factor.
