  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) This is why I am more optimistic about 2016 than most. There is a lot of low hanging fruit for the team to make big improvements on. Defense is one spot. We also have multiple spots with really bad offense that could take a quick leap forward depending on what we can bring in. not bad.... i like the analogy . creative. great job.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) That's why I advocate trading him. His defense is not good and we got what I believe is a career year offensively out of him. And he clowns it up too much. If I'm hero worshiping, Heywars in right Thompson in center Avi in left. I just don't see Heyward as an elite bat. i disagree and for this main reason, his offense. until the sox can really establish a #1 type of hitter in the big leagues the team needs a #1 hitter. now if he had better players on either side, then the look will be different. mean the defense.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Diamondbacks always seem to churn out a lot of young talent and are willing to trade. yeah, and now they have a new front office group of people, it is now going to be different.
  4. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 05:33 AM) God I hope this carries over to the spring excellent point and all those who agreed with you.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) The fact that you call them "african judges" is a giant concern in itself. you got a very good point esp since you really don't know me. but my only excuse is i was half asleep when writing this. thanks for bringing this to my attention.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 05:56 AM) I have no problem with anyone saying they're not buying Rich Hill at that price. I just think it's lazy when someone just says "he blows." Honestly, I didn't even realize his health issues were that serious so I'll take what I said down a notch. Regardless, I think he's a worthy gamble. This guy will be getting guys out next year. If not in the rotation, get him in the pen. Big upside as a starter or reliever. i agree, for a 1 yr contract i would take a gamble. esp if the salary is not outrageous. the sox still need a #4 /5 pitcher. i know they are gambling on EJ.
  7. yesterday morning, i was at breakfast, the african american doctor who is our community leader for the african american vote, sat down and we talked. you see, i am close friends with 2 of the african american judges and others minority politicians and well they trust me. the first thing i brought up was Dr. Carson and all this stuff. he told me without even a pause or eyes blinking, that as he knows it, as of right now, the african american and the creoles were and are embarrass of the latest new of Carson history. they just wish he would just step down and shut up. they also believed he put the black vote back several decades. this he said was the general feelings he was getting... now i trust him but i question the several decade response, well b/c i do.
  8. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) You're right, I'm afraid. That's the new normal of being a "dynasty" in a Salary Capped league. No team can beat a cap system in the NHL forever, as it is designed to swallow them up back into the middle of the pack. And you nailed it on the head with "other GMs won't help". Spot on. many thanks for the kind words. but to be honest, i would rather be wrong and some poster to tell me i have my head up my arse and explained to me how SB can maneuver out of this and pull a magic trade of some sort to further help the team.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 11:02 PM) Now that you mention it, I think I read something during the deadline that the Astros are very high on Reed so leaving him out was probably a smart move since they are likely not to include him in any trade. For me, Joe Musgrove is the arm I would want back in a trade with the Astros. Big, big man that knows how to get GB outs. Would love to get him somehow. JD Davis is interesting as well. Big arm for 3B and plenty of power, although he K's quite a bit too. Call me crazy but I'd take a chance on Singleton as a throw in from the Astros. After enduring Dunn and now LaRoche, why not, lol. i too like musgrove but wasn't that a deal breaker last yr with San, when they explore a trade with Hou???
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) What I came up with in a waiting room today... Sign Alexei Ramirez for 2 year 14 million Lack of options, bounce back candidate and stop gap. Sign Rich Hill 2 year 16 million. Dude has pitched sparingly but has been highly effective the last few years especially down the stretch for the Red Sox last year. I imagine they'll try to retain him but they have Buccholz, Johnson, Rodriguez and Porcello + whatever big-ticket starter they add. Lots of potential for surplus value as he has fixed his mechanics. Sign Kenta Maeda – 20 million posting & 5 year, 70 million. Knocks on him are his slender frame. Dominant in Japan. Paying for 28-33 year old seasons. No compensation past money. Replaces hole left by Quintana. Trade Erik Johnson, Adam LaRoche and 6 million for Matt Adams. Cardinals have Piscotty ®, Bourjos®, Jay(L), Holliday®, Pham ® and Grichuck® in the outfield. Whispers are they are going to move Holliday to 1B but he's unwilling. LaRoche could break up all the righties in the middle of the lineup and sit vs. lefthanded pitching when Holliday/Pham/Piscotty cover 1B. The can sub in Boujos/Jay in the OF late and switch the less defensive oriented OF to 1B to have a great defensive unit. Johnson gives them an arm to help stomach the loss of Lackey/Lynn. Wainright, Lynn, Garcia aren't spring chickens anymore so Johnson gives them another young arm to add to Wacha/Martinez. Trade Frankie Montas for Martin Prado Not much explanation needed here. Prado covers 3B and hits second. I don't believe Montas can start. Not sure what the market will think of Montas but I think it's a worthy move. Trade Jose Quintana and Micah Johnson to Arizona for David Peralta, Chris Owings, Archie Bradley and Keith Kessler. Peralta is the key. BABIP is a bit high and he plays in AZ so his stats aren't as pure as they'd look in a glance but he's a well-above average LH bat who is pre-arb. Owings is a guy who was hamstringed by a bad wrist and is a great bounceback candidate. Do the look and see approach at both 2B/SS. Bradley has had an up-and-down career in AZ and scouts and executives have pinned him as a potential trade candidate. Good GB% and nice four pitch mix for the Sox to work with. Keith Kessler is a guy who hasn't had much of a chance in the MLB but I think can become a dominant LHSU. Sucks losing Quintana for reasons that don't need to be said and Johnson seems to have fallen out of favor and could find a role in AZ who lacks a 2B other than the skeleton known as Aaron Hill. Trade Avi Garcia for Tucker Barnhart Neither leave much to be excited about but fit their new teams much better. Barnhart is a light hitting switch-hitter who does everything well other than hitting and running. Noted that he works well with pitchers which the Sox love. L CF Adam Eaton R 3B Martin Prado R 1B/DH Jose Abreu L RF David Peralta S LF Melky Cabrera L DH/1B Matt Adams R SS Alexei Ramirez/Chris Owings R C Tyler Flowers S/R 2B Carlos Sanchez/Chris Owings Bench: INF Owings/Sanchez, OF Thompson, C Barnhart and Saladino/Shuck L SP1 Chris Sale R SP2 Kenta Maeda L SP3 Carlos Rodon L SP4 Rich Hill R SP5 Archie Bradley RHP Robertson RHP Jones LHP Dule LHP Jennings RHP Putnam LHP Hessler RHP Petricka Key here is to keep the draft picks and add cost effective players who can add to the team for years to come. wow, you really did a lot of home work in this post. great job.
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 11:30 PM) If they want Rasmus now, why didn't they want him last year when he was cheaper and w/o losing a draft pick? He's a decent defender, but strikes out too much, OBP too low, head case at times. None of those FA hitters excite me like Prices or Grienke or even Zimmerman would, were the Sox looking for pitching. last yr, the father incident was more in play.

hey, it was great talking about the movie.....
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 07:34 PM) Comparing a big trade to rape is pretty low man i don't mind overpaying and i have said as much. i guess i am ok with the catcher, but not the other player.
  14. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) It's probably more in line than you think. you may be right.

  16. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) This is entirely dependent on whether or not the Rockies think they are are in their championship window right now, or in a couple years. They just traded Tulo, Reyes is under a lot of fire with the law right now, they have been rumored to be trading Cargo for a while now. If they aren't ready to win now, then they may as well dump their biggest asset for a #1 starter if they have a guy to replace that asset in 2 years anyway. Not that McMahon will be as good as Arenado, but they Q is under team control longer than Arenado, and will be cheaper than Arenado once Nolan hits arb. And Q in the NL would likely improve his value in the event they decide to trade him again in 2 or 3 years anyway. I don't necessarily think this trade lines up perfectly, but I can see the rationale behind the Rockies doing it. If you think this is a video game trade, then it's clearly because you undervalue Quintana immensely. He's a top 15-20 starter. you do make a good point. it is now vs several yrs from now. interesting.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) What do you mean? That's the whole problem with the movie. That's why that whole story line was f***ing stupid. but you are missing the point, if they did as you said, the movie would have been 1/2 of the time, they would not have sold the refreshments. and then there would not been the next james bond. movie.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) You could have done without the character or make his ties to that one organization more apparent. really, never thought of it that way. you got a point. btw, i love the irony of sherlock and bond. Flemming made up a whole family line based on sir arthur conon doyle of sherlock and the relationship of bond's family. he love to see if he could tie both characters together. but he dies before he finished. btw, that is where i was going with this.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 05:56 PM) You're speaking to deaf ears my man. Some just will not let go of the Xbox fantasy. i never played zbox.... to complicated for me.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) And the previous three Craig films did that, this is a different stage in the character's journey. This movie was Bond confident in who he is and his place in the world. We don't need a super dark and emotional story because the character has moved on from that point of his life. Regarding Waltz, I thought the character was appropriate for the world that was started in Casino Royale. Again, the Waltz character was just a tease and he will have a much bigger role in Bond 25, where we will get Oberhauser fully formed and out for revenge of his own. i really can't see that and the revenge factor. but in this movie, he was cold and uncaring. his only goal was killing. just remember this part, i am going to be very cryptic in this. toward the end, he was driving in a car after a meeting, the person driving was kinda of looking at him and he was impersonal. not feeling or facial feelings being shown. again for me, that was denoting his lack of emotion.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) I didn't know the green font color had a purpose until now. yeah but it is all good, no harm.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 05:31 PM) The Rockies aren't going to trade Arenado unless you dramatically overpay. Can we stop the madness? It isn't happening. He's probably the new face of the franchise. killjoy. but with ref to McMahon their other 3b prospect. if anything they would trade him instead.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) I'm not suggesting you can't have fun with the movie. Even Skyfall had its moments. But I like the Bond films where Bond feels some emotion, he feels loss, rejection, devastation, etc. which fuels him to go get some revenge. That to me was a tonal shift that made these last few enjoyable. He had it in this one, but the explanation trying to tie it all together was so bad. n actuality Peirce Bronson added the feeling to the bond series esp in tomorrow never dies and the world is not enuf.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) But they don't HAVE to stick to the books. They can be better than that. They can try to elevate the series. A great comparison is the Tim Burton v. Christopher Nolan Batman films. Yes, having a cartooney-batman was fun, but it's been done. That's why Nolan's reboot was so fantastic. It was raw, gritty, and more emotional. The Craig-Bond series was like that, until this last one. Keep the great Bond stuff - the cars, the action sequences, the martini's, the Bond girls - but add a story that actually has some weight and some emotion to it. Raise the stakes a bit. But you have to earn it. In this one, ohhh 2 major point in that post..... i like it. point 1. i totally agree, they had to update this to a realistic realm, but everything is still in the 60's kind of attitude. except for the cars and helo. i keep getting confuse as what era are they trying to do??? but that is me. second the black out. really nice and a great psychiatrically mumble jumble stuff. however remember their is a group and this is but one person who is in the group and his reasons to hate bond. btw, what was anyone opinion of Dr. Moriarty the actor performance in the movie. did you hear that car that went swimming in the canal cost 6 mil and it was a 1 of a kind car.....
