QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) I completely agree unless you can get Norris or Pompey from Toronto (that are MLB ready). If Sox management aren't looking for prospects that need some time to develop, then I think Sox will take the comp pick. I'd like to go after Wieters. not i.... but that is for another time.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) Winning team + interesting area surrounding the ballpark = people showing up Losing team + interesting area surrounding the ballpark = people showing up (see Cubs) Winning team + non-interesting area surrounding the ballpark = people showing up Losing team + non-interesting area surrounding the ballpark = people NOT showing up (see most of past half century with the White Sox) niceeeee ......

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) I am sure the White Sox don't want it in the media they are selling. And couldn't telling a team you may not be interested in selling be a negotiating tool? As much as we would like to think so, JR, Hahn, and KW aren't really all that dumb. or that smooth.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) I'm not disagreeing with you, but I think Sox management is because they have this "3 year window" set in their heads and Nottingham is at least a few years away. And probably wouldn't feel comfortable putting a rookie catcher in the thick of a playoff race when he is ready, if the Sox were in a playoff race down the road. many thanks and i agree with you.... but the sox really doesn't have depth in the catching dept. i can see a player like him a the next batch of prospect in 3 +yrs. i think may really address a catcher in a starting side sometime this off season.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) An obvious problem is also a shrinking market. that is the point. hamels, cueto, price and then the 2 nd level tiers of sp's now where you one add shark???

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:26 PM) Disagree with what you are implying. The A's are a rebuilding team that can wait for a guy like Nottingham to develop while Phegley is the stop gap. The Sox have stated this 3 year window, so if they are trading Jeff, they are probably looking at prospects in AA-AAA in the 22-25 age range that don't have that much more development time left, that they could just plug into their big league line up. It's just a matter if teams are willing to give that up. but he doesn't have to be pegged as the next starting catcher but be added to the prospect pool that may be lacking in that position.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) This is a bad way of looking at it though. Guys fall in the draft all the time. The value in the comp pick is the flexibility that it allows you throughout the draft. Stop looking at the value of the particular player chosen with the pick. but at least there is a point to compare it too.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:20 PM) I agree with this. I have a feeling Sox wanted Santana. Nottingham can become elite because he plays a position that is so hard to play. very nice. and logical. will he do it..... who cares... at least they made a move to help. now it is up to the baseball gods .

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) Disagree, Kazmir may certainly have come cheaper than Smarj. But houston was clearly scouting Samardjiza hard and viewed him as a viable alternative to giving up bigger spects for Cueto and many spects for hamels. Now there are the Jays and the Royals, and we likely won't trade to Royals. So we have the Jays, who are more interested in Cueto. By all accounts, they moved from Sox because Sox apparently don't believe they are sellers yet. That's an amazing feat to continue to surprise me at our ineptitude this late into this crap season. good reasoning.... let me say this, if cueto goes next, then there is shark and hamels and price, for 3 possible teams.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:14 PM) I could be confused but, how are these prospects stop gaps? Unless you're saying Kazmir is a stop gap? you are correct, for me i was talking about the rtn for oak. some may not see them as class A high elite prospects...... but they are everyday players. name me a team that has nothing buy elite players at all positions....

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) He's replying to the phrase "The White Sox haven't decided on a course of action" there. for me, as trades and prospects.... i really like the catcher for the last month.... imo of the 3 teams i was looking at, he was #2 in the catcher dept. but then again, what the fvvck to i know.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) Mike Ferrin @MikeFerrinSXM 5m5 minutes ago If Nottingham & Mengden reach their ceiling: Astros gave up everyday C & 4/5 starter for 2 mos. of Mid-rotation starter. Seller’s market. and that is a really nice stopgap to help an org in rebuilding.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) Blue jays/royals all-in on Cueto. and the domino's starts to fall.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) Yeah. The problem is the White Sox probably wanted someone to help them win this year. and now..... that sounds like kw and the owners. really not having a grasp on reality.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) Lev Facher @levfacher 2m2 minutes ago Beane: A's needed to be realistic about where they were in the standings. https://twitter.com/levfacher Say what you want about Billy but atleast he isnt blind. and he has a quick trigger finger in doing trades.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) And so is Flowers, but supposedly he is the worst baseball player who ever lived. And these were the top 10 in the league. You can sign guys like Soto for around minimum every year. If you are trading Samardjiza, I think you are aiming a little higher than that. Maybe in 5 or 6 years Nottingham is, but the odds are stacked against him and almost every minor league catcher of being anything but an extremely mediocre major league player. As I stated, Flowers was a better prospect than this guy. i can see your point. but i see this yr selling by the sox as not to win in every trade, but to fix the hole that is sinking this ship who has many holes. fix it, and then concentrate on continue to improve with minor altercation thru the draft. this is a system that has long been overlooked.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Location doesn't matter. Sorry. This team wins -- they show up. They lose, they don't. No matter how you try to slice the pie it's the same. I'd like to hear the argument how its easier to get to Wrigley than Comiskey. If I'm coming from the suburbs and driving, I'd rather go to Comiskey. If I'm taking the Metra? Sox Win. If I'm taking the El it's a wash. If we are complaining about the area of the ballpark the only thing that's true is that there hasn't been enough development to the IMMEDIATE surrounding areas of the park. Bars/shops/etc. I'm not talking a few blocks away, I'm talking like within a quarter mile. I just recently got the chance to start going to a few other ballparks and all that I've gone too have a nice feel around the ballpark. Minus the Royals. excellent point. the problem i see, the fan will endure that hassle of going to the northside. most b/c of all the activity in and around the park before and after the game.

and i would like to add, there are many on this site, that many posters have a great working knowledge of the sox prospects. maybe i am being biased here, but the info on the sox are so compiled in 1 area, it is second to none.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick 55s55 seconds ago The #Astros also had Jeff Samardzija on their radar, but couldn't afford to wait for #WhiteSox to decide on a course of action. https://twitter.com/jcrasnick Well there's some good news(major sarcasm) CRAP!!!!! well, hou still needs a 2nd pitcher.... or was that Tor who needed 2 sp.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) We can wait a year or two for the Cards to leak the discussions. many thanks.... i really needed that.... i was feeling some anger coming on b/c of this trade. really fuvvck funny.
-
totally unrelated.... i wonder if the sox were even involve in any of that discussion.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) Tyler Flowers was a breakout catching prospect once. Didn't KW watch him hit a bunch of homers in the AZ Fall League? The kid would be nice to have, but still there are very few catchers anymore with really nice offensive games. i agree on his potential as a catcher esp his hitting. dang.
-
oak really won in this trade and the sox are really the losers.....
-
dang it i like C Jacob Nottingham

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) To the Astros. most likely good call.
