QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) While his age does somewhat weigh against him in physical maturity, he has less baseball experience than the ones he is playing against. I like him a ton, too. i too agree. i really hope he makes it.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 01:52 AM) I've heard this mentioned a few times, and I find it frustrating. If he has that big of an issue with sitting vs. LHP, then he shouldn't have been signed in the first place. The team has a better chance to win ball games with him on the bench vs. lefties, if he can't accept that, especially at this point in his career, then buh-bye. if the sox are stuck and he is a problem. he is an employee play him to help the teams win.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 02:05 AM) No one will want him. He has ~0 trade value. He's in the same position as Viciedo last year, a guy you could get on the waiver wire who has shown nothing in the big leagues and is about to get more expensive. We can pretend he has trade value but he doesn't. If you're rebuilding, he's the kind of guy you claim if your coaches like him. You play them & see what happens because the worst thing that happens is you lose games. If we want to compete next year, barring a major change in his style of play over the last 2 months of 2015, he can't be the starting RF. Hell, if we want to make a legit WC run, either him or LaRoche, take your pick which one you want to bench. i still like him. this is his first yr without an injury, knock of wood. so he will continue to learn.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 12:36 AM) Because major league baseball is a damn entertaining thing to watch. I've been to stadiums all over the country watching games played by teams I could care less about. If you love baseball, how could you not attend a game? I've sat and watched minor league, independent league, college and junior college games. Baseball is great to watch. and if that is the case, why go to the game when you can see it on tv. you can to admit that the price of the games, esp in season ticket holders are $$$$. again, if your fav team is always screwing up thru bad management, why would someone go and spend the money???

QUOTE (rodh @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 11:56 PM) Thanks for the welcome. Probably seems strange having a Sox fan from Hawaii. I have been a long time reader of this forum and I have to give props to all the posters and admins as this is one of the best forums in all sports due to the content and civility. that is cool, this sites has some great posters from England who i talked to, every once in a while. as you are prob 5 hrs different. England is about 9 - 11 hrs different. but they once in a while listen to the games. all i keep saying, the future looks great with the young prospects and the major is very close. just enjoy the sox in any way you can.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 12:41 AM) Regarding LaRoche, I think we need to start playing him at 1B more frequently to see if that can help him get going. Worst case scenario it improves the defense a bit. And we definitely need to start platooning him. I don't care if that's a shot to his ego, but he should not be facing LHP under a normal circumstance. nice idea. can't hurt.

the thing is, it is not throwing in the towel, or trying to decide to make a run. for all the reasons that has been stated. which is a good excuse. but for these short satisfaction of winning or making a run to the wild card. but does that really help the future of a very promising young group of players who, with a new player or two, it would be better, but a hard choice to sell now. to acquire those missing players to ensure a better future, a future that can include continuous run for that playoff.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:57 PM) There is zero possibility he gets sent to the minors. We're also not releasing him. The only way his salary would get cleared at all would be to trade him or if he retires. And no one is trading for him. yeah i agree, i had a crazy idea of trying to help decide to retire. other than that, he is a sox until his contract ends.

QUOTE (rodh @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) I watched Cooper pitch for 2 years as the Friday starter for the University of Hawaii. His fastball averaged 87-90 mph but he comes extremely over the top with his pitching motion resulting in a good downhill plane even though he is only 6' tall. It did not appear he had much more projection in his body but I hope the Sox coaches are able to coax 2-3 mph out of him. His plus pitch was a big breaking curve ball that he commands well. This is my first post. I have lived all my life in Hawaii but became a White Sox fan when Chuck Tanner was hired as their manager back in 1970. Coach Tanner had great success managing the Hawaii Islanders (PCL) which my father and I had season passes. welcome aboard.... this is a great site esp in sox info and prospects. for coop, when he gets older, and with the coaches.... i hope he does add a couple of ticks on his fastball.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) Well we are free to release him, but we have to pay him every cent that he would make if he were playing for us can they send him down to the minors as a minor assignment. but first need to be dfa??? i don't know the rules on that.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) He's more responsible for Abreu than anyone else other than JR. As for Hahn, virtually very single move over the last two seasons hasn't worked very well, other than dealing Peavy, and the Garcia part of that is at best a dubious proposition from here on out. Eaton for Santiago is probably a wash, at best, right now. Davidson, Bonifacio, Keppinger, Downs, Blowasavio, Paulino, etc. The only player who has performed close to his contract this offseason has been Robertson, and that's an argument with two sides that have equally valid claims. If anyone wants to credit Hahn more than KW with drafting Rodon and Fulmer, well, that's up to them. Not exactly nuclear physics. in that aspect, you are right.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:35 PM) We can't. dfa in the off season?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) He's certainly survived much of what you said GM's don't survive. blind loyalty from the owner is the reason.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) Hell I'm on board. I'm getting really sick of Garcia. in that case, some team can trade for him.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) The 1983 White Sox went 50-16 the final 66 games to win 99 games. Obviously, this team will not be doing that, but they could go 39-27 for 85 wins. Here's what the Sox have left, and what they'll need to do for 85 wins: (9) KC 5-4 (7) Bos 4-3 (7) Det 4-3 (7) LAA 4-3 (7) NY 4-3 (7) Sea 4-3 (6) Cle 4-2 (6) Min 4-2 (4) Oak 2-2 (3) TB 2-1 (3) Cubs 2-1 Is it a long shot? Yes. Is it possible with a good pitching staff and an improved offense? Sure, why not. Now...about Laroche... nice work adam l.... buy him out in the offseason.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) There's just no point to a grand sell-off. Trading Samardzija, who is about to be a FA anyway, makes some sense. But otherwise the team is young, your best players are under team control for a long time, and you just want to see some of the young guys improve. There's no rebuild to do, you're rebuilding already. and how will you fix the holes the sox have.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) Long term, it is more patient. Rick wants to cut bait on this team and keep building towards the future. Kenny probably wants to add to this roster, sacrificing a bit of the future. to me, it sounds as they, the sox fo, really put out a ridiculous rtn for shark. if met, then fine a trade. but i really believe they may be hoping for a complete rebound to make the wc and the playoff.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 09:37 PM) But Viciedo was just so bad. If he wasn't he'd be playing for someone in North America right now. As for Flowers, I just think you need to give more ABs to Soto. Especially coming off a night game. Unless there's some sort of paternal attachment with Rodon, I don't see why a guy who caught last night wasn't given a break today. Flowers isn't going to get any better getting fewer ABs, but we will do less damage. well it appears has many, at least for this cle series has came out of the hitting slump. i would move adam laroche to #8 in the order. until he starts to hit. but i stilll hope the sox still trades shark.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) We heard the same thing about Beckham and he simply disappeared from the face of the earth. There's no way we're not going to get a player in some system's 6-10, or two guys in the 11-20 range. The odds are not better simply because we've failed to produce any position players in a decade, let alone one drafted outside of the top 30 players. We're talking a Keenyn Walker or Jared Mitchell like player in terms of draft positioning. If there's a choice between guys like Iglesias and Garcia who can contribute in 2016....versus waiting on a prayer for 2018-19, there's just no way to justify "further rebuilding" when you have a rotation ready to contend. If the White Sox were allocating $200 million to be added in additional payroll before next season....sure, but it's more likely to be $25-35 million in new monies that we spend than $125-135 million. the reign of KW is still going to affect how things are going to be done. the lack of prospects, esp lack of any catching prospects is going to kill this team. the problem will be how to find a happy medium between the obvious choices.... fa's rt, trade rt, draft rt and i will keep this separate the int'l draft rt. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Except it's Hamels who is going to the AL West and Cueto to the AL Central (KC). oops, but the point is, this should shock the other teams into making moves.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) That was the one almost nobody has watched, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, with George Lazenby (the one time he played the role, I think Sean Connery was being phased out but then he proved to be too popular and had to be brought back). NORTH AMERICA: Weekend Estimates: 'Ant-Man' Leads Again with $24.8M; 'Pixels' #2 with Lackluster $24.0M Start; 'Minions' #3 with $22.1M; Solid 'Southpaw' ($16.5M) Outpaces Soft 'Paper Towns' ($12.5M) Pixels was expected a week ago to make as much as $38-40 million, so yet another in a long line of Sandler disappointments. If not for Grown Ups 1/2, he'd really be under water. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - sean connery wanted more money to continue. he dropped out and sean connery hated that he missed the OHMSS. all the movies are a complication of the stories. look at the chronological order. it is way different. i am a huge james bond fan since the 70's.... i read the books and the new books that others were writing to continue the story. Daniel Craig is the closest to the story that has been written.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) Houston's going to wait until the last second and see if the sticker prices come down or another veteran surprisingly becomes available, but for them to trade a top 3-5 minor league right now would be pretty shocking. i agree..... with cueto going to al west, they are now forcing other team to rethink their positioning and maybe make a bigger effort to more trading.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) Would anyone be happy if we traded Tim Anderson and Montas for Justin Upton, for example? Sure, we can upgrade one position offensively, but even someone like Upton is going to force Avi to the bench...and he's never played in the AL, so you'll have the inevitable league adjustment, and then you'll end up losing him as a free agent. If they're going to add a bat, he better already be familiar with AL Central pitching, or it's pointless. The fact of the matter is that a compensation pick has about a 10% chance of helping us 3-5 years from now. On the other hand, Hahn can't just sit there patiently waiting for something to happen in terms of improving the line-up ("this compensation pick is part of our new and improved five year plan") or he'll be out of a job before Ventura. there has never been any discussion, rumors or suggestion, until now of moving anderson and upton. so come on get real. you and many know the only person who has been discussed of being moved is shark. there is according to the fo a 3-yr plan. so the problem is moving the pieces that is going to be lost or would be a surplus of players that can be moved for better prospects.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) Eva Green was really such a strong female counterpart to Craig in that one....of course, he's never going to marry and settle down, but most of the Bond Girls have been lightweights compared to her. if you read any of the james bond's books, esp in chronological sense. he fell in love twice, which when they were killed, it drove him deeper in a murderous despair. all this goes back to his parents being killed in front of him as a youngster. eva's character was the first in his path of being a 007. all the books are easy listening.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Ben Nicholson Smith is on Hit and Run. He mentioned guys like Aaron Sanchez, Dalton Pompey, and Anthony Alford as the type of piece the White Sox would expect in return for Samardzija. 2 outfielders and a pitcher..... ok. many thanks on this update.
