QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) Balta if you could start complaining about LaRoche in every thread and calling him an albatross because of a bad month of play we might not even need to acquire a bat. i will admit this, i was for getting adam laroche and yes i am extremely disappointed in his performance. i thought he would be a really nice signing for a 1 or 2 yr contract. until some unknown prospects can develop or another venture into fa. but at this point, i am go benching him.... winning is more important than a player who is not carrying his weight ..... but b/c of his contract, he will play regardless of his avg ... or lack of.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) I'm done arguing this with you. You are wrong on your definition of a 6 man rotation whether you accept it or not. Again, if you are using 6 starters, you are taking starts away from Sale, Q and Shark. They are not going to do that. and you are wrong as well. going on a 6 man rotation is giving the manager an extra pitcher to use as he see fit. whether is for a 6 man or 5 man. esp when the dogs days for summer is coming.....

to all that was involve in this discussion, i am not trying to be rah rah kind of poster. but both and all sides were very interesting and brought back alot of historical sox info since the late 50's... nice. and this is a reason a sox fan is different and the northsiders, we know baseball. and we are fans.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:09 PM) For sure. Not questioning your fandom, just curious. You ever thought about MLB.tv? U can get all games from anywhere outside the Chicago market. this is me.... and this is on me only. i can't stand watching tv. i haven't watfch tv since my 2nd heartache in 2006.... so when i want to watch something, it call searching on the puter. also remember one thing, i usually don't agree with a lot of ideas that is said on this board, that doesn't mean i dislike anyone posters, it is the idea..... many get offended that anyone would disagree with them. haha. plus i don't follow anyone b/c of this board. i am weird. it not my fault, the doctor dropped me at birth.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:56 PM) LDF, don't take this the wrong way, but I have honestly grown curious reading your message the past few years...do you actually watch much baseball, or just sort of follow box scores and post on/read this website? now my turn..... why???

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:56 PM) LDF, don't take this the wrong way, but I have honestly grown curious reading your message the past few years...do you actually watch much baseball, or just sort of follow box scores and post on/read this website? since i live in Louisianan, there isn't much baseball to follow. so i can't watch as much as sox basball as i would like. when i do go to chi, i go to as many sox games as i can. i lived in chi and i live and die sox since the mid 60's and i was a season ticket holder from 85-95. so i know i am taking the long way around to answering you questioning but i guess that answer would be no, i do not watch much baseball on tv. i follow sox basball on the internet in nbc game view as much as i can. does that count??

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) No saying a "6 man rotation" implies 6 starters getting equal amounts of starts more or less. Using a spot starter occasionally is using a 5 man rotation in which that 5th starter could be one of a couple different pitchers. ok i am back, sorry for the delay... ok where are we. a 6 man rotation implies a 6 man rotation with pitchers, whether they are the same or not. it is the lack of fully defining all the parts that will be use to define that phrase. whom the names of the 6 man is the unknown. furthermore, for this discussion, i am using 1. sale 2. shark 3. Q 4. rodon 5. danks 6. EJ barring any problems, coop and rv can use all in that order or use 5 or the 6 in any particular week. it give flexibility to the team to use who they can. furthermore keeping into account whether rodon is on a pitch restriction or whether to skip danks or any unforeseen situation that may pop up. again, i am saying it gives the coach options to use for immediate use.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) Especially when it comes to starters. but the point is, he is the pro. we are not. he would know more on how to handle the pitching staff better than us.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) Coop is well know to be more aggressive than conservative. You're right, it doesn't hurt to have another option, but if EJ comes up, that option to spot start should be Danks after a move to the bullpen. There is a big difference is using a spot starter and using a 6 man rotation like you advocated earlier. that option is sport start anyone is really the sox manager's option. i just think EJ needs to be there for immediate use. just in case..... for the semantic dispute of a 6-man rotation is having a 6th man for a pitching duties,..... doesn't that mean the same as a sport starter???? it has a wide definition of a description that is used.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 1m1 minute ago Dodgers are getting Mat Latos and Mike Morse from the Marlins, as reported by @GDubCub. Does this take them out of Hamels/Price race? are the sox FO seeing this. major teams who figure to be in the playoff race is fortifying themselves. ......

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) Hello, KW. This isn't Hahn planting something with the media. i really do hope they do well and not sell too much. i really hope i am wrong when i say this is a bad move. i second that. Hello fvvcking KW.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Not really. Rodon is on pace for roughly 160 IP. He pitched 123+ last year. They'll want to increase his workload some, and somewhere between 160-170 IP seems reasonable. If the Sox were to sneak in the playoffs, my guess is he'd be in the pen. They don't need to skip Rodon at all down the stretch, honestly. you and others may very well be right. but we are fans...... we are not the pro's nor are we coop and his idea of how to handle the pitching staff. many are making a big assumption. i rather error on the side of pitchers safety instead of overusing him. it doen't hurt to have another option in the rotation, for immediate use.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) What's funny about people saying Q isn't special or isn't that good. Whelp I don't know how close he is, but he has to be up there with worst run support of all time. i know, it drives me crazy. all he does is go about this job in a very workman like way.... no flash or any of that.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) This seems like a good poll question -- who to vote for to bring up. Micah Leury Jones Johnson Other My opinion -- if we trying to win as many games as possible? Micah wouldn't be bad to have up. Can play the DH spot 3-4 times a week and play 2B once a week. Adds a good bat to the lineup and some speed on the basepaths. My other option would be to bring up Erik Johnson. Have him take a couple starts. Maybe skip Rodon once in the rotation and skip Danks once or twice. If EJohnson does well, keep him in there for Danksie Cat. I'm not a big innings counter guy, and in the scheme of things, skipping on Rodon start isn't huge, but if are going to make a run, may be nice to get him a break in there. good point, we as fans know that rodon has some kind of pitching restriction. between now and at the end of the season, rodon will need to skip an occasional start, so an option is needed for those time. let alone the danks pitching adventures.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) Rodon is only on pace for around 160 innings. He should not be really be too restricted the rest of the way. If we make the playoffs, we have an incredibly strong front 3 and a 4th starter isn't really needed in the playoffs. again, we as fans really don't know the restriction on rodon. so there is no way i will see innings from a fan as the end of conversation proof. i agree on the bold. how ever, the sox needs to win games to make the playoff. they the sox rotation really need a viable 4/5 pitcher who can take the ball to the mound when he is up.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) We're battling for a playoff spot and you want to take 8 or so starts away from Sale, Samardzija, Quintana and Rodon and give them to Erik Johnson? Why? If Johnson enters the starting rotation, it's either because Danks was moved out of it or somebody got hurt. the point is, while we the fans has no knowledge of rodon pitching restrictions, esp in the amount, and well danks is danks. he can provide an alternative in the rotation. if the urgency is to make the most, then why not go on the 4 man rotation.
-
in lieu of no other injuries, i would bring up EJ as a #6 sp.... go with a 6 man rotation.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) The Sox as buyers. How crazy of a turnaround is this? I honestly don't think the odds of them playing nearly flawless ball the rest of the way and overtaking four teams are very good, but what's the downside I guess. I just hope whatever they do fits into their plan for 2016 (and '17), when they are more legit contenders. If they're willing to spend serious money this offseason on Heyward, Upton or Gordon, then I'd say stand pat for now. I doubt that's the case though, so I like the idea of exploring trades for CarGo or Puig. the sox FO has said this is a 3-yr plan.... i say stay the course, no matter how tempting it is to make the playoff. to acquire the pieces to fix this team, at least for a temp fix, the team will loose assets. valuable assets that will leave this farm with a hole. this is a tempting position to be in. but a dangerous one. too bad, the sox never finished the rebuilding in the off season....... now don't get me wrong, if the sox proves me wrong.... i would be ecstatic and i will cheer hard for a victory in the playoff.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) Exactly. There's a bunch of options for us to sign a pitcher in the offseason. esp when some of those pitchers may not be given a QO..... so getting them without loosing a draft pick would be nice.

QUOTE (Ballz-n-Strikes @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:07 AM) No "we" won't. With what? He's like $9M through 2018. ZERO chance. They'd want Sale. how do you know what the dodgers want in any trade for puig.....

QUOTE (venom4789 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:45 AM) I am now drinking the kool aid and loving it. ahhh.... old time school. red flavored ...

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:07 AM) That's overboard, don't need that much. I think Upton and Ross for Avi, Montas, Anderson, and Erik Johnson could be enough. Ross would give us insurance in case Samardzija doesn't resign. But if he does, this rotation is stacked for the next 5 years and still Fulmer to come up. plus some really talented young 19-21 yr old prospects developing.

QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:07 AM) I could still see it happening to get a high caliber MLB bat. Who knows though. If you want to compete you then have to go fill that rotation spot. don't get me wrong, i understand. imo they really need a bat and a sp.
