  1. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) I have to think all the comments about not being in sell mode yet are a smokescreen to try to look less desperate and maintain a little leverage. If the Sox actually think they can still contend, they're idiots. I wouldn't blow everything up for next year by any means, but it's well past time to move out who we can, keep the core guys, and hope we do a better job in the upcoming offseason at finding some good pieces on offense. And if they can turn Quintana into, say, two future everyday position players, I think you have to seriously consider it. excellent point on the first part. on the 2nc, i think after the kc series, it is now understood.
  2. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) The thing is, the party hasn't even started. Has there been any trades thus far??? great point.... i guess it is still in the early feeling out point. but can you imagine if the sox pulled the trigger, least 2 weeks ago with a reasonable rtn price??? that trade would have been made. a good rtn, not max out the rtn.... is all i would be happy with.... something that would be better than a 1rn comp pick.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) Simple question, would you trust two of Saladino/Sanchez/Johnson to plug up 2B/SS for the forsee able future? Im leaning closer and closer to yes. I have little doubt Johnsons bat will be able to play. That's weird saying, I haven't thought that about a Sox MILB guy in forever. His defense needs to come along, but I think it will. So hopefully one of Saladino and Sanchez pan out to something decent. The other could hopefully make for a utility man. I still have faith in Sanchez. His glove is that good where his bat won't have to do too much more, if we can plug up a few other positions offensively. no, at least for me, the ss position is what i am keying on. unless we as fans can see saladino get some reps there, between now and the end of the season, no.... now for my disclaimer.... i am really biased for Aelexi playing there.
  4. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) As dumb as some of the comments/rumors may be regarding the White Sox current position in this season, I can't believe they aren't actively looking to move as many parts as possible. Obviously, there has to be a market for their players, and the willingness to pay for a player to play on another team in some situations; point being, it may not be feasible to trade every player they'd prefer to, but I do expect movement. As far as this being a 3 year plan, this team appears to be far away, in my view. 1) Chris Sale and Jose Quintana (although he has been a bit rocky at times) are good building block pieces needed for a quick turnaround. Carlos Rodon should also fit into that scenario next season, but they will be looking for another Jeff Samardzija this off-season if they plan on competing next season given the obvious need of a right handed starter with top-of the rotation stuff. 2) The IF is in awful shape. Is Tim Anderson ready to play SS next season? Are there any 3B candidates? Who plays 2B? Carlos Sanchez, to date, is a weak hitting slap hitter who is not a major league hitter. 3) Melky Cabrera has been an underwhelming addition and Adam Eaton has regressed. Can both rebound? Do the White Sox have another other option but to hope? look at Melky avg the last 2 months.... you will be surprise. The offense lacks a legitimate #4 and #5 hitter. LaRoche is more of #6 type hitter. 6.... more like 7 or 8th The bullpen has improved and Robertson has had an excellent first season; the rest of the bullpen has had it's ups and down, but overall better though it's not one I trust in the later innings of a close game. All in all, I do have my doubts over how much room this team to improve. They spent a lot of money last off-season. How much money will they have to spend this off-season? If they go down the trading route, moving young talent (of the few that they do have) for proven major league talent is short-sighted. They need to be adding, not subtracting for any long-term growth as opposed to an occasional one year blip. the offseason will tell how the sox do.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) Maybe I'm in the dark but haven't seen anything about him being hurt. I just want him to start hitting the ball hard again. If it takes a DL stint, so be it. i am with you, but Jose is from the old school, bare it and continue to play. then again, that is my opinion.
  6. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) It's been 35 years. If he hasn't learned it by now.... damn, look at the freaking hawks and their fan based. now imagine the sox and a park of 30,000+ a game in total bedlam.... on a winning streak for the WS with at least 1 under their belt and competing for that 2nd one???? look at the attendance in 2006???? what was it???? the owners could have max out their expenses and they would have made a killing after smart investing with a smart FO.... bad, no least say horrible advise and those people are still in charge. seriously. does that make sense????
  7. QUOTE (Brian26 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 08:36 PM) It's asinine. In terms of location, nothing could be more centralized and better capable of public transportation use than the current location (except for the plan from the early 80s that talked about a stadium just north of NW train station (now Ogilive) which would have been amazing. that would have been amazing as you said...... the sox would have owned chi in the baseball world.... on top add a world series ring to the run, the fans would have been crazy pack. just another example of poor judgement calls and decision makings. now if the sox does the rebuild right, yeah maybe loose money for 1 yr, but in the long run..... the sox goes to the playoff. watch out. this team, i believe has the main core there, they can have a special yr..... and we as fans will be on a wild roller coaster of a ride. i see it. if only.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) He came up in the 7th and 9th as the tying run with runners on 2nd and 3rd and failed both times. Not even a sac fly in the 7th. 2 groundouts. i really think he is still hurting.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) 1. Because they went on that poorly timed run in late June and early July, they probably were hesitant to trade him until they were 100% out of it.2 2. He was actually performing well during that run so the White Sox holding onto him possibly did help him establish that he could still produce for a contender. 3. There are a lot of pitchers on the trade market right now and none of them have moved at all. Teams are being hesitant and aren't pulling out their best offers yet. I think 3 is probably the most important of these. There are so many front line pitchers out there, especially if you count Price, that the teams with starting pitching needs can wait on the market to come down. b/c the sox fo has always been late to the party...... for hopes of catching, as someone said, lighting in a bottle. i guess that white flag incident is too entrench..... they are afraid of another black eye.
  10. QUOTE (RaySox @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 06:31 AM) And then what happens when we don't have a good closer anymore? Everyone will complain about it and wish we had a guy who can get the job done as well as Robertson. Sox wouldn't go for it either with their "three-year plan". I agree the contract sucks to have on our hands. But if we want to compete anytime soon, a solid 9th inning guy is crucial. i guess it is me, but i don't think his contract sucks. i think it is a great contract for a position that is needed, now and in the future. it is my the sox misfortunes that this yr team is not living up to what was hoped / and expected. if this record this yr would have been more positive, then all would have been ecstatic. poster should be complaining on why the sox are stuck with adam laroche and boni contracts, deal with the dead weight.
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:11 AM) Makes you wonder just exactly what they do in spring training. The last 10 days of it were brutal capped off by Charlotte pounding them. They were flat on opening day in Kansas City...they were flatter for the home opener for Minnesota. In my opinion that does fall directly on Ventura and his coaching staff. Mark i like most of the moves and i wanted still some, but either way, a team of players of this kind, can not forget how to play ball. so the fault falls back on the coach, RV.... i agree it is all on RV. but i also blame the FO and esp the owners. loosing to the scrubs in spring training, coming out flat from spring training. i leave it at that as proof.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:18 AM) His thumb is messed up. And everyone around him blows. He should probably go on the DL. nicely said and very true.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 06:21 AM) I suppose. Part of the reason why that comp pick is so valuable is because you'd gain tons of flexibility. Giving away the 2nd rounder and that $1.8 ish million slot isn't something I'd want to do. i agree but the way around the uncertainty of a draft pick not panning out, the org get lots of them, then one should pan out.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 11:15 PM) You cannot do both of the things you state in your first paragraph. You will not be able to get both Sanchez and Saladino "reps at SS" while still paying Alexei a lot of money unless Alexei gets hurt. If Alexei's healthy, even if he's terrible like he's been this year, he's going to play 150 games. He's on pace to play ~157 this year. If you want Sanchez or Saladino to get any reps at SS you have to trade Alexei Ramirez or not pick up his option. then switch them, this is, from this point onward is a formality on finishing off the season. that is the way i see it. lets see what the sox have for the future. other wise, you do make a solid point.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 11:10 PM) With KaRoche, only a two year deal and we're going to be hard pressed to compete next season as we've been discussing for 2-3 months now. i guess i didn't fully write out my thoughts on that. with LaRoche, the sox are stuck. no moves what so ever. i even doubt the owners will try to eat his contract. so will the sox pay someone for 15 mil to sit on the bench??? no, he will get his swipes in.
  16. i have always liked Ramirez and for his contract of $10M for next year is cheap. the reason is, his defense. that alone will solidify the infield defense esp if MJ is at 2b. Saladino, i would like to see more reps of him at 3b and see how he is doing offensively and some reps at ss, same with Sanchez with reps at ss. for a key position of ss, Aelexi brings in a known commodity and a familiar presence. btw, i still think he will rebound next yr.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:24 PM) Who can the White Sox realistically pursue in FA that will improve the team significantly and NOT blow our entire budget on just 1-2 players (Heyward, Gordon, Cespedes). So the question with the Melky contract is did spending that money too early impact our next free agency class? Obviously if he had a crystal ball and signed Morales instead of LaRoche, B.Anderson/Volquez instead of Shark...were in a position to add Puig for Quintana, you'd be much closer to competing and we still would have Semien to start at 2b or 3b, maybe bringing in Cervelli to catch. Lots of what ifs. The problem is that Avi Garcia is closer to a negative than a positive, Melky's more of a complementary player at his best, Abreu's struggling physically and hasn't carried the team like in 2014 (or Quentin in 2008)...and the gaping holes are at premium positions like 3b, SS and C. I'm not so sure we wouldn't be in the same spot if we signed Russell Martin instead of Cabrera/LaRoche because we'd still have had to spend another $25 million on the likesof Lind/Morales/another veteran pitcher. In the end, the Cabrera and Danks contracts are weighing us down...that and wasting money on guys like Beckham and Bonifacio when it would have been better to play Saladino, Micah and Sanchez the whole season at the big league level and see what we had at the end of the year. At this point, nobody could say with certainty any of those players should be penciled in as starters for next season, other than Micah Johnson since he's still the most likely impact player of the three. just coming in now..... i didn't have time before. Melky stat - june 270+ avg, july 303 avg. he is starting to hit like many expected him. Danks contract was inherited there is nothing that can be done about that. Adam LaRoche - why wasn't he added to the list??? the only what if, i have is the additional pitching, Anderson / Volquez, both of which i wanted in dec. Beckham moved paid off, much to my surprise. but then i am saying a person who is hitting a sub 200. Boni i am totally surprise on him.... my only lame excuse is he wasn't handle right. but that is grasping. next yr, it is really going to take a smart gm to do this right. whomever is making the decisions.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 07:24 PM) Move Alexei. Sanchez takes over SS for the year. Possibly shares it with Saladino. Micah takes over 2b. Sanchez moves into either SS or Utility Player role depending on whether you think it's worth it to spend a bit of money on the SS position in the offseason. Johnson works in as your 2b, Saladino and Sanchez see what they can do in a season along with maybe a stopgap, and then whoever is the weaker of the 2 gets out of Tim Anderson's way in 2017 and we see if we can actually produce a decent top of the order/middle infield pair. And then maybe you also find a 3b candidate in a trade this year on top of that. i like it. but would saladino be a better option for ss??
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2015/07/l...accountability/ In the first "Lip Service" column, Mark looks at loyalty without accountability in the org. it was a real nice reading article i like the veiled suggesting that things need to change from the top down. but the loyalty factor is something to thnk about.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Stats are never the whole picture in the minors. And their importance, generally, is a sliding scale. In A ball, yes they tell you something, but no they may not tell you what you think they do. Its key at those lower levels to know HOW they are getting outs. excellent.... i never thought of it that way. in the A league area, i use the stats to look at some unknown players to keep an eye out. but i am looking at cooper with a 92 mph fastball and so far his success. any one, i know many others have very good opinions and feel, i was lost. many thanks.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) He overvalued him because he signed Beckham afterwards. There wasn't much of a reason to have both of them. Would Bonifacio be playing better with more playing time w/o Beckham? Maybe, maybe not, but having both of them on the roster is where I think the biggest problem arose. this is what makes this site great....... posters able to post and have a subtle conversation about the sox. and how to look at the future. yessss. too freaking bad, it wasn't a discussion of the sox in the playoff. fvvck
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) Price & Cueto sure, but Chapman is a closer and Hamels is in a completely different group due to his contract. And Haren is a big cut below Shark & the rest of these guys and not rarely a factor come October. Right now, the best way to maximize Shark's value is to move him while Cueto's asking price is ridiculous and before Price becomes readily available. a good point, it all depends on the asking and not wanting to play hard ball. but then again get a fair rtn.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) Except his GM is paying Bonifacio basically twice as much as Beckham to do pretty much nothing. How did he end up overvaluing him by so much? We've seen the same thing happen with Keppinger, as well, fwiw. i forgot about that.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) I just posted this yesterday I think, but here's an article with video and analysis of Cooper. thanks the i did saw the video and read what you posted. that is why i was a little confuses. he just don't seem to be the typical over powering closer but stat wise, doing nice. i know the object is to avoid bats.... but with out an overpowering FB?? just my confusion.
  25. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) And, another solid outing by Matt Cooper. Something like 92 K's in 67 innings in 2014-15. what are posters opinion, honest assessment on Cooper???
