  1. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) Defense at 3B is not a minor excuse. Yeah Connors bat is maybe slightly above replacement level, but his glove is so bad that you can't start him at 3B anymore. If you can't see that, I digress. Boni has flexibility and Conor has none. I wouldn't have complained of it was Boni not Connor, but I understand the decision. i can see that most, esp you are not looking at a possible other reason. conor is 27, cost control, 1 yr remove from a good offensive yr. he is still considered as a possible young player who most teams would hold on to, to continuing his development and training at the mlb. so, either boni or conors going, i can see boni and given his salary and last yr performance, i would have seen a club giving his more chances to succeed.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) As usual injuries play a big part in how someone plays. He had 8 months off from Tommy John surgery. The injury occurred when he was having his best season hitting around .310 . He hadn't been much of a hitter before 2014 at AAA so something must've clicked for him. We can see he hits the ball where its pitched and showed a good eye in the minors. So he was rusty and adjusting to his new elbow this year . Seems to have a pretty good approach but major league staffs will find a weakness and try to exploit it and Tyler's job will be to take some walks while he's tested on his strike zone abilities. pls don't get this wrong, i am not trying to tear him down. i am just wondering if, he might have put all the development together at this time and this is the finished product, and i mean offensively.
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) .281. ok, that will do.
  4. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 04:59 PM) Nothing wrong with that. I don't think anyone here is claiming him to be great. I'm just eager to watch him the rest of the year. i think the sox fo has just done that.
  5. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) Frank Thomas was/is about as self-centered as any player around. Most guys are. I have no problem with Puig being self-centered. maybe you don't, but it does appear that his teammates does. per mlb trade rumors.
  6. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) What's the difference between pitching Sale the DH and today? Robin is completely different than Ozzie. We all know that. It doesn't mean he doesn't care. He isn't going to embarrass himself the way Ozzie did at times. You can bash Robin for pitching Danks in the DH but he won. He pitches well against the Royals. We have Sale today, and if Shark pitched like he should have and won Friday then we'd be talking about taking 3 of 4 today with Sale pitching. whether pitching sale on fri (dh) or sun, i would like to add throw sat in there. sale is going to see the royals. me, i had no problem with sale not pitching fri, i think i would strike while the iron was hot and have sale pitched on sat. if sale pitched on sat and won, the monkey would be on kc to win on sun. adding more pressure and a pos of a nice run for the sox.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) What purpose does Gillaspie serve if he's not the starting 3B? He's not good defensively at 3B. You mention 1B - any infielder can play 1B and we have a gold glover who DHs most days. His role would be that of strict pinch hitter and we already have a better LH pinch hitter in Shuck on the roster. Since Saladino came up, Gillaspie has been MIA. I'm not thrilled about the move simply because I like Connor, but it is the right move. Gordon can't hit at all but he is an asset to have on the bench defensively. And Boni has been terrible, but he at least can run a bit, something every bench needs. i don't know if this is a right move or not, i think there are other factors at work. i can see him being an option, if he can work out of his hitting slump. his lack of D at 3b is but a minor excuse. his production has added to an excuse to dfa but i think that is the only reason. boni running is greater than conor hitting.... i don't think so.
  8. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) You've pointed out that he is inconsistent. So, he will probably end the year in a slump. Or he continues to hit well the rest of the year. I mean we are due for some good luck aren't? Sooner rather than later hopefully. and i agree, i just don't want to jump in the group of enthusiast fans and when things goes bad, as there is always going to be a recovery period, many will turn against him. and that turn, so to speak becomes really ugly. i just want to be even keel and see if i am seeing things differently.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) Danks was just awful on Friday. He really came close to giving up a run. sarcasm ????? the subtle art of sarcasm nicely added. i like it.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) The White Sox will not be trading guys like Melky and Robertson that they just signed. They tried to win in 2015. They'll add in the offseason and try to win again in 2016. Samardzija will most likely get moved. I could see a reliever or Ramirez go as well. My point to Greg was that there wasn't going to be some giant firesale. and now add the unmovable contracts of danks for 1 more yr and adam l also for 1 more yr. that is what 30 mil. however the sox can get some kind of value if danks pitches every once in a while like he did on fri.
  11. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) I understand that. But we need someone besides Abreu who can f***ing hit the ball. i will caveat that with this, i am not against trading him, i would in a heart beat, but a team will need to pay..... i mean really pay to entice the org to make this move.
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) I guess I understand this move but why the f*** is Boni and Beckham still around? the bottom line is the unknown factor. conor's personality...... while there is no publish rpt, many can see how difficult of a person he was around the dugout and his interaction with other players. i bet with his slump, that didn't help matters.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) Here is our in-person report on Carson Fulmer's debut, from new writer Kim Contreras. Enjoy! Also, here is the recap of the other games. i am sooo freaking excited about the sox rookie teams - Great falls and AZL-white sox. looking at these 2 teams players, i can see the future looking great. nice job again to all the admins and writers. to keep us, the fans up to date.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) LDF, I don't think he's ever going to be good defensively. He has to be a big offensive weapon to outweigh his bad D. and this yr, if rumors were correct, the pitchers were feed up with his defense or lack of. which made his move to the minor a necessity. too bad he doesn't hit for more power, then moving him to dh would be great. same thing for 1b. offensively he is too good not to play. but he really doesn't have a position that his defense will show a hole.
  15. i am a little confuse on Saladino and his hitting. in the past, in the minors, he really was an inconsistent hitter. last yr being the only yr he hit over 300+. this yr in the minors, he was hitting 250+. now he is hitting 300+/-. so what kind of hitting can i expect to see if the continues to stay up???
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:29 AM) Greg, I'm pretty sure you are going to be disappointed. Samardzija will get traded. Maybe even Alexei. I'd be shocked if Robertson, Melky, or LaRoche go anywhere though. Chairman wants to win in 2016 then just maybe he should not have stop the adding to the team. the sox was needing a 2-sp, and a 3b man. i don't they would have gotten a catcher. now, with these additions, who can say if the team would come out of the gate sucking???
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:57 AM) While Melky has been hitting better, what team would want to take on his contract? Alexei is hitting .226 with a very noticeable decline with his defense. What team would want him? LaRoche is a power hitting 1B/DH minus the power, hitting .219, strikes out a ton and under contract through 2016. What team would want him? Talk about selling low to no bidders. If these guys were hitting, would we be so eager to trade them? Think about that... I agree that Samardzija gets traded but I'd be willing to bet it will be for less than many Sox fans ( myself included) are hoping for. While I'm fine with the idea of trading Robertson, I doubt the Sox are interested in trading him unless blown away and the same goes for Q who just last winter was considered " untouchable ". So realistically were looking at trading Samardzija which will not retool the team. Take the best offer as long as the offer has more value than the comp pick and move on. serious question, which team, at this time does not think LaRoche is on the decline. which team will have faith that he would rebound???? none.
  18. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) I'm not so eager to trade him. But this offense is a f***ing disaster and needs fixed. Q is one of my favorite players. We've shown the ability to develop pitching not hitting. but that cost control contract is the reason not too, that is unless another team will be willing to pay its weight i n gold, so to speak.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) Johnson 2-2 with a homer. He's earning that promotion back to the Sox! i am with you on this. but how is his D coming along. the defense was the reason on being sent back down.
  20. ok i am caught up.... damn the sox lost the first game.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) Sox OF WAR, I believe, is the worst in all of baseball. I don't know any scenario where anyone would say that all around we have anything even close to an average outfield. Adding Puig is a mega upgrade. Edit: Sorry, late to the party but I see Balta has already covered this. i don't know if i answered this, but the sox needs more help in other positions.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:39 PM) I am aware. I think that has more to do with everyone else playing well under their career norms that Tyler Flowers and Geo Soto being good at baseball. Either would be a fine back-up. Problem is, there are very few good catchers in baseball right now, but I'd certainly like one of the top 10 catching prospects in the game and give him a chance next year than rely on either one of those two for more than back-up duty in 2016. Unlike you, I think we're fine in the OF for now, and we have several internal options at 2B and SS. 3B and C would be my priorities, and SS next. the unknown is anderson...... man i can't wait for him to make the jump, but until then, he is a viable option at ss.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) Trade our pitching surplus of prospects for hitting prospects so you are saying the same thing i am in my trade idea. which was done on a fly. same reasoning there.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) How does that fill any of current needs at the MLB level? Feliz is the closest to MLB ready and he's probably a bullpen piece. Phillips is an outfielder..... Davis is in A+, we have a guy by the name of Trey Michalczewski who is producing at a similar clip than him and 2 years younger. Nottingham is 20 years old and is 3 years away.... Give me the proven stud in Puig.... you are now moving the first down markers to the org question. the goal is to acquire as much as you can assume players who will make the majors. in addition to add to a depleted minor league systems whose only strength is pitching.
  25. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:27 PM) Yes, I'm a soothsayer. Or, I assume most prospects will never succeed in the big leagues. haha no one needs to be a soothsayer to predict an unknown when the factors in the equation is known. what is known is a vast majority of baseball prospects fails. the unknown is who will not.,
