  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) This is why MLB teams have minors league affiliates. To help players learn, make adjustments and allow players to progress at their own pace while under the watchful eye of the major league teams FO. Jumping from college ball to the majors is a huge hurdle. Fulmer will not be a starter for the Sox this season due to his inning totals so far this year and he is not needed in the pen. Another thing to keep in mind is Fulmer's season started in mid February which means he likely started throwing around the first of the year to prepare for his last season in college. It's already been a long season for the young man so it would be best to see how he fairs against tougher competition in the minors while monitoring his innings. Fulmer's progression should be determined by Fulmer's performance and not by others that came before him or overly eager fans and FO that do not want to wait. Patience. excellent point and i agree. remember last yr, Rodon had to be shelved b/c of innings he pitched. well Fulmer went the whole rt, all the way to ncaa college world series.
  2. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) I don't mind going for high risk high reward guys, just prefer betting on players who have more than one tool. the point i would like to make is how many times did that worked for the sox, and on the flipside, how many times has that failed.
  3. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) "it like he is better than most minor leaguers but not good enuf for the majors. pretty much like hector." This line makes it sound like Hector isn't good enough to be in the majors. I was simply pointing out he is an All-Star this season...Maybe you are being unrealistic if you don't think Hector is good enough to be in the big leagues. yeah ... that will be a better description.
  4. well looking at the salary number yesterday, made me thinking, the hawks have some priorities that needs to be address. with 1 or 2 players who may be needed, some salary relief is needed. now this is not to assess blame but try to figure who is moving. well steeger and bickell is factored into being the one who is needed to be moved, base on their salary and the rtn in the stats. the problem i see, is the hawks will need to sweeten the deal. so here is the question, will the hawks add prospects or draft picks to the pkg for moving bickell and steeger. i just hope the hawks are not maneuvered in dealing crawford, b/c of the relief of the salary. it is going to be interesting in the next couple of months.

    Jay Bruce

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Bruce has posted an OBP above league average 5 of the last 6 years, with the one exception being last year's injury-caused down year. He's a good hitter with plus power and he even handles lefties well, something that would satisfy a lot of people who are tired of LaRoche. How long all of that is set to continue and whether it would with a team/league change are up for debate. There are reasons this makes sense and reasons it doesn't. Good thread. for me, getting Bruce if cincy is trying to do a salary cut. then maybe.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) One of my favorite things about the park now that never gets mentioned is the history in pictures along the concourse of the upper deck. It is a great walk through White Sox history. oh what a great point..... if i remember correctly, right behind the right field bleachers is a room of the sox history with stories and picters. wow, all those little stories, just like they have at the baseball hall of fame ..... excellent. look at the greg l, kittle and mark mcguire stories of hitting the homerun on the old park roof. a must see. do they still have it there???
  7. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) Lassiter is hitting .340/.493/.460 and has nearly twice as many walks (15) as strikeouts (8). Over his past four games he is 8-15 with a HR, three walks, and a stolen base. can't wait to see how he holds up at the end of the season. another A+ prospect, i hope.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) According to Cot's, he gets a $15,000 bonus for All-Star Game selection, but I doubt it matters if he actually pitches in the game or not. many thanks. i was really asking that question in a rhetorical way, while i didn't know the answer, i didn't mean for anyone to look it up. again heart felt. thanks.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) So Noah is selling his Lincoln Park mansion. The real estate agent said proximity to work is his priority. Considering the Bulls now practice next to the UC, this is a bit confusing since he bought the home a year ago. Maybe he is getting dealt. interesting...... good opinion as well. something to keep an eye on.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Worth noting on Lassiter, he's a guy who was at one time a high round pick-level guy. Scuffled on the field this past year, then had off-field issues and was suspended from his team for the end of the season. So he's probably more talented than his draft round indicates, but we'll see if he can make it work. a really nice info i didn't know on Lassiter. many thanks.
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) Montas just got exposed in the Futures Game. Throws 100 MPH with no movement and unreliable secondary pitch. He needs more work. Johnson is the candidate, after Bonifacio is DFAd As for depth, Hahn just dealt 3 roster guys to rent one player for 1 year. Frankly, I want to see Saladino and Micah up the rest of the year. Neither is really the 3B of the future, but they could be 2B. See if Sanchez can play SS as well as he can 2B. Saladino had some good swings over the weekend. Even Sanchez is waking up, albeit slowly. If someone wants Laroche's salary and give a B prospect, send him on his way. interesting post. i will respond to one though. i never like the trade, but i saw the reasoning of it. i can't fault it, i actually enjoy the thrill of seeing Shark in action in a sox uni and i will always remember and think, what if the sox offense would have clicked. oh that didn't happen. but again, the thought process was there.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Not at the expense for learning. Look at it this way. The sox may have one less year of control but they get one more year of an effective pitcher in the mlb. i just don't know... the reasoning used on both side are valid. for me damn if you do damn if you don't.. i guess i an with those who says, no need to rush him. if he shows he has the chops to start right away in the majors, then do it. if not, let him fully develop and / or get stronger in the minors.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) It has nothing to do with "being afraid of the White Sox". He has a 4 game series vs. the White Sox and Sale pitching the All Star Game may mean he doesn't have to face him which gives KC a better chance of winning a game. That isn't just the White Sox who would benefit, but each team in the division. It is probably very rare to have a 4 game series vs. Chicago and miss Sale. Maybe he won't, but Robin did mention perhaps holding Sale back until Tuesday if he did pitch. i wonder if Sale has a salary bonus clause in his contract for getting to the ASG ??
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/7/71/76...pitch-star-game Actually in this article cooper really didn't want sale to pitch either. Alot of people was mentioning about pitching the all star game like as a normal side session but I remember a tweet yesterday saying sale hasn't been doing alot of side sessions lately cause of his work load. Also saw that since sale will pitch the all star he might not pitch the games this weekend against the royals and would push him to the cards series. as much as every person has rights, and it would be great to see Sale in the ASG, i too would not want Sale to pitch. just rest the arm and body..... just my thoughts.
  15. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) Much ado about nothing. I also don't think RV is over-using Sale. If Sale was throwing upwards of 125-130 pitches every start, then there could be a complaint. But 108-113 pitches is not overloading a SP. for me, i don't think RV will take chances with Sale as he did last yr.... if anything, i trust RV in really protecting him.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) Men in Tights is probably my second favorite Mel Brooks movie after Spaceballs. I do remember him from Cheers and also West Wing. mel brooks movies..... what a list. very creative mind. can't go wrong on any of his movies.

    2015 Films thread

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) Watched a couple movies recently. Red 2 - I enjoyed the original movie (apart from them killing off Morgan Freeman's character). The sequel was pretty good. Anthony Hopkins does a great job with a smaller part and you can't go wrong with Catherine Zeta-Jones. I'd say it's a solid 3 out of 5, just for the entertainment of it. Pacific Rim - Fun popcorn movie. The CGI tended to get all muddled, so it was hard to keep the illusion of people in robots fighting monsters. I also had a tough time accepting Charlie Day as a scientist. There were so many deaths, at a certain point, I stopped caring whether the main characters lived or not. 2.5 stars out of 5. a nice description for enjoying the movie. fun popcorn movie...... i am going to use that from now on. red 2 was funny, kept the humor and everyone was great.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Good things going on in AZL, DSL and GF. Going to be a fun read once the recap is posted. for me, i can't wait to read the post season rpt these guys on this site will do, they will be more indepth than the pro mags rpts.
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Let's not leave Keenyn Walker and Jerrod Mitchell off of KW's resume. yah i guess every once in a while someone will get lucky ..... these are the oops factor.
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 03:59 AM) I know next to nothing about the competition level in the DSL, but Maiker Feliz is making that league his b**** at 17 yo. yeah and i remember 2 catchers that are doing very good either in dsl or in the other league. good to see. plus i think they are a couple of nice looking pitchers. future is looking good, if they can continue to develop has they already.

    Jay Bruce

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 11:00 PM) Avi needs to improve - and he certainly may. He needs to pull the ball some. Sox would rarely develop a young player given the patience for them in these parts. But I've seen so many of these veterans on their even or downward plane, immediately trend downward fast. The contract is heavy and he'd cost more than Avi. Patching with veterans has failed miserably. excatly..... but remember avi is young. this may be his first yr without getter hurt and his first yr period. he is going to get much better. big mistake to trade him.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:12 PM) I'd give up Avi for Bruce in a heartbeat before even considering the implications or direction of the team. for me, that salary is too much.
  23. i am wavering around here. 1 part of me is saying, the sox can comeback. but the other is saying no, the sox should think of trading shark, if the price is right. if it is the second, i rather shelf Sale, instead of running him out there to get hurt, or limit him games and innings. should the sox chance sale getting hurt??
  24. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) Santiago? He's an All-Star this season. well, i know this is on me, the state of sox system, i want all the success for players..... this org needs them. maybe i am being unrealistic.
  25. wow, in an unrelated update. i really thought the hawks had more wiggle room with the salary cap. but i was way wrong. http://www.generalfanager.com/teams
