  1. can someone verify something, is a player is selected to play in the ASG, management has nothing to say about it, right? i mean RV stated that he preferred that he wouldn't pitch that is not up to him.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) 44 years ago. well i am an old fart that remembers many stories. oops i think it may have been the 72-73 SC Finals. i thought it was the 71 when mont D - john fergunson took a run at bobby hull and did o vicious cross check right across hull nose and broke it. mont needed to get hull off the ice and disrupt the hawks and it worked.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) I think he's got a potentially very interesting relief profile. Needs to get command of a breaking pitch though. for me, i am selfish, i just want him to fully develop into something the sox can use in the majors.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Good to know. Have not been excited by him since his ML stint, but he has been successful that's for sure. Sounds like he's not supplanting Carroll's role anytime soon. it like he is better than most minor leaguers but not good enuf for the majors. pretty much like hector. too bad.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Are Bowman’s 2015-16 Blackhawks better than the Cup winners? interesting report. many thanks. here is a tidbit on bowman sr. he was coaching the mont cadiens and met the chi blackhawks in the 1970-71 SC Finals. well Mont won, bowman and billy reay the coach of the hawks, met on the ice to shake hands. well bowman said something to reay and billy reay just laid him out right there with a punch. man, i wonder what was said, reay died without telling, and i am sure bowman will not say. oh well.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) Stuff-wise, multiple scouts I've seen quoted were not impressed. wow..... many thanks for the snippet.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) I think they were planning to call him up regardless of how the season started. They waited until they got the extra year before he hit FA and then called him up almost immediately. They'd even skipped a Noesi start before then IIRC, so Noesi didn't really have much time to be terrible. you may very well be right. i just don't know. thanks
  8. Dallas GM talks about the trade. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dallas-st...ephen-johns.ece in every era of hockey, teams tries to copy and replicate what success team is doing. esp with a success record, like winning multi SC's. this was done from Mont C, to NYI, to Edm, to Det etc..... i like the idea, i don't know, maybe is ego related, but some team are like the chi method. just my thoughts.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) The Sox have depth in the pen now and for 2016 so theres zero point in bringing up Fulmer this year and maybe even next. If the Sox really believe Fulmer will be a starter then keep him in the minors to get used to pitching in a five man rotation. If at some point during the 2016 season Fulmer shows he is ready then call him up. Otherwise let him get used to starting every fifth game and build up his innings. Fulmer should not be called up until he's ready, period. i agree. only the sox FO will know what to do. this yr, Rodon was rush b/c of Sale injury and Hector totally falling apart. otherwise i think Rodon would still be in the minors, at least after the ASG.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) Read on SCH that hopefully Daley can take over PP1 defenseman to get Keith more rest as he ages. Interesting thought, I used to love Campbell on the power play (and not much else). Lots of change next year. about 3 weeks later as it washes away I get home sick. Too much fun the past 6 years watching certain lines gel in the playoffs, the shaw/kane line in 2014, the TT/desjardin/Sharp line in 2015, every time in 2013 when Kane/Toews would pair together to save a series. Such a small amount of time you get to watch that stuff before this league breaks it up. to be honest, i think he has the offensive skills, but i question his defensive skills. esp in Q system, and esp with Q. he depends soo much on the defense and he wants little errors. he is a harsh task master. the d-pairing is a huge question mark. i am basing this on players the hawks have now. Keith - Hjalm Seab - Daley TVR - the problem i an seeing is how will Q split the d-man parings??
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) you are completely missing my point. Im not saying rumors have zero truth, I am saying that (with every sport) you should take them with a grain of salt. You have completely trashed bowman both for having the audacity to have his father as an advisor and also for theoretically setting a price way too high for sharp and not moving him during or before the draft. Without being privy to any of the conversations that Bowman had with other GMs, its really hard for me to sit here and rip him for a trade that wasnt made when i have no idea what offers were passed back and forth. for my defense, and yes i am saying defense. b/c you are not looking at the whole part of what i am saying. only finding a way to somehow chastise me, which i can handle. rumor are rumors, even when coming from sport magazine. whether it is esp, bleacher rpt, cbs ect..... so do you keep in mind that all the rpts should be taken with a grain of salt???? i gave a disclaimer that i am not a fan of bowman, and yet i gave him a lot of credit for the last SC win. now i say the same disclaimer and a fixed it to the screw up of the trades...... several new mag rpt it, but that is not good for you. another poster verified it, so i was not being creative. it was rpt. another part of that story is sharp was almost moved, according to sport mag at the trading deadline but cooler heads prevailed and hope the the hawks could have won another SC..... so the foundation was set, and when the season ended, several team from the NE conf wanted him. but the cost was too hight. again, this was from several sports mag.... i am thrashing bowman b/c he screwed up, pretty much as i thrashed KW for the state of the minor league system. so with the attitude ot not ripping on the gm b/c you can not verify the authentic y i would like to see how you respond to the baseball site, when the deadline comes around. my question is how can you enjoy yourself here if you discredit everything that is not said by the org??? what is known, bowman asked for a kings ransom before the draft and it didn't happen, and look at the result of what was received. if you still have problems with that, then it is on you. i am done fighting this broken record. i have proven myself over and over again and yet that is not good for you. oh well.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) I'm reading a Steve Berry novel right now, King's Deception. He's an historical fiction writer who I really enjoy. the snippet i read sounds very good. i am going to find it and read it. many thanks
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Again, none of us know what was discussed with ANY teams, and all of what we hear is rumors. You cant come out and say Bowman got fleeced/failed/ etc after the draft when none of us know what was discussed. What if another GM floats a total lowball offer to Bowman who declines it, and that GM goes to TSN and anonymously reports that Bowman is asking for the moon in order to get Bowman to try and aim lower? Sharp had to be moved, it sucks. People didnt want Johns to be included, that sucks too. But to indict Bowman for having to deal with the financial difficulties that the NHL presents, a mere month after they took the stanley cup, is both shortsighted and misinformed. This isnt Brock for Broglio but do you believe what sports pro are saying..... isn't that also a rumor??? at what point do you say it is not, when 2 or 3 different sports mags rpt it??? gm and org goes to these sports mags all the time to leak info. just as they do for baseball. if you feel this way about this in hockey, do you have the same opinion with baseball or the nba or the nfl??? a gm job has the major responsibility to be prepare. even when their team is in the SC final. those trade ideas and talks will not stop b/c of the SC Finals. great enjoy and celebration, and then get to work. there is only less than 2 weeks from the final to the draft.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:01 PM) They wont. in your opinion, would they fast track him or slow him down.
  15. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) It's amazing to see how much speed is currently in our system, Eddy Alvarez is 4th in SBs in the SAL, Engel is leading the Carolina League in SBs, Anderson leads the Southern League and Saladino, Leury Garcia and Micah Johnson are all in the top 10 in SBs in the International League. I can't remember a time when we've had so many burners in the minors. was it in baseball the cliche of you can't teach speed??? but i still love the positional players playing and developing. dang it, it is too bad that these kids are at least 2 yrs away.
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) As LDF stated, his return he was looking for for Sharp was a 1st round pick, a young roster player on his ELC, and a top prospect. wow..... many thanks for that. that was kool thing to do.
  17. i am looking at fulmer and i am wondering if they the sox fo, will use Rodon schedule as a timeline for his progress???
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 06:46 PM) Hahn's been very clear on the importance of depth to a contender. He's made comments about adding enough depth to be in the position they want in 2016. Surely that means guys like Anderson, Fulmer, Montas, etc. graduating but I am sure acting like a contender isn't going to help in the ways of adding depth. To me, moving Samardzija for an about ready position player + is a much smarter move than holding tight and hoping the offense is anything more than anemic. you make a very good point. if and i do mean if shark is traded. i can see EJ coming up, might as well see if he can do it. second, i thinking they may not want to start the clock on montas or any other player. just my thoughts.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) Tell me, without any rumor, exactly what Bowman asked for. as i said in the past, i do not work for the front office so in essence all this may come from the sport magazines sites. fri night tsn was saying that bowman was asking for a 1-rounder, a prospect in the 3-6 ranked in the team system and a player in the parent team. again this is rpt from the cert sports mags. after the draft. either a draft pick in the 2-5 round and a prospect not yet playing in the nhl team. or 2- 2-5 rounds. so let me state this, if someone rpt is talking on a sports site and reporting this, isn't that a rumor as well???? the majority of this stuff that is discussed here are rumors. it is the source of that rumor is what make it a valid point. so here is another point. sharp had to be traded, not only for the salary cap, he was name the victim of that. but back in Feb he had a fight with a team fov leader for having an affair with his wife..... also he broke up a serious relationship for having an affair with a superstar player on the team..... all rumors except that a sports writer saw the fight and rpt it on the internet. google it. that is why sharp had to be moved.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 2h2 hours ago Just wondering if Frank Montas will be the 26th man added by the White Sox for Friday's doubleheader with the Royals. Purely a guess on my part but White Sox, while still feeling in playoff contention, also starting to infuse their prospects to Majors Before David Robertson was added, there was some talk that Montas could figure into White Sox closer equation this season. i think it might eric johnson. or carolll
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 04:57 PM) I don't care that Sharp was traded, we have to deal with that, I was surprised we had to give Johns in the trade. yeah, i too didn't like that a. johns was added, concerning what the hawks gave up, and 2. the saad trade and giving up both saad and the dman. ref to sharp, every gm knew the hawks had to trade sharp and no one was going to help. esp with bowman asking price. bowman did it to himself. well either way, most should know what i am going to say so i won't. i just hope that the the rest of the summer isn't as bad as it was these last 2 weeks. now to see if the russian line will do ok and if the rest of the team will gell.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) I am cautiously pessimistic about Sharp trade (b/c of SJ), but will feel really terrible if we lose Oduya/Kruger after this move. i can see your point, but sharp was a goner back in feb of 2015.... i have to give Q alot of credit for holding this team together and that is why i give bowman credit for his trade to help. sharp was a complete idiot. so for salary excuses, which the sports people are using as the main reason, is a little correct. but loosing 2 key forwards in Q system is a HUGE hit..... that is why i can't see how to repair the damage. let alone if bickell and steeger is not traded. i just don't know.
  23. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) That's ridiculous. If there was such a deal, then Jordan Danks would still be in AAA. Danks will be gone if anyone wants to pay his salary or the Sox get anything substantial back. and you may be very right .... that is why i wrote that i am guessing. i know that danks gave up bOrAss.... that is why i am thinking of favors being rtn. that is what i think and i am prob wrong.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) #1, we have no idea what else was offered for guys like Sharp, or anyone else. We are only going off of rumors and the one deal that was actually done. #2, until this squad hits the ice and shows us how good or bad they are, we don't know if this off season was "screwed up" or not. #3, we have a lot of young talent stepping in. Teuvo will get his first full season next year, and be on a top line with Sharp and Saad gone. The kid from the KHL is stepping in The kids from Columbus should be a +. #4, Daley will offer some stabilization to the back line. #5, the off season isn't done yet. excellent points.... nice. ref #1. i can see what you are saying about rumors, where it is forum or a sports site. i agree. but i think and this was based on after Saad trade, that bowman didn't want to send Saad to a team that the hawks may have to face. nice strategy. #2. i diesagree. the sox oops i mean the hawks lost 2 power forward types of players, the kind that is not easly replaceable. esp learning a new systems and their responsibility, esp Q system. #3. same as #2. #4 daley is not a 2 -way d-man, just like Leddy wasn't. Q systems for d-man is really complicated. plus daley rep for not playing a 2 way type of hockey is already proven. maybe the hawks can work that out of him. is offense is nice though. i just wondering if he is better suited as a foreward. i still don't like the contract that bowman gave out to the russiam. i looked on cap geek and he is now earning 4 mil .....
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) Sox should do a bit of both. Focus should be on 2016 and 2017 and better positioning the club. They shouldn't be afraid of selling some current assets today a bit (especially pieces who might walk or aren't good fits) while adding to the talent pool, but also, if the right parts are out there, they shouldn't be afraid to buy either. I think we'll be in a unique spot where we sell a couple guys but also get involved as a 3rd team in some trades to try and swap some of our minor league talent for other teams talent changing hands (but maybe as positions we have bigger needs, etc). i really don't think the sox have a choice..... how will the sox repair the holes they have at SS, 3b for starters.
