QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) I'm torn on this topic. Obviously the upside to Sanchez is his defense. How many double plays has he turned that Micah wouldn't have? How many balls has he snagged that Micah wouldn't have? How many saved runs has he had on defensecompared to how many runs have we let up with him at the plate instead of Micah? Also, Emilio has been awful? I don't know if I agree with that thought process. Last year he had 430AB, 26 SB, was able to play around the field, etc. The year before he had 460AB, 28SB, year before 30SB, the year before 40SB -- you get my point in a way. Basically since 2011 he's averaged 400AB a year with other MLB teams .... why do the Sox find him so worthless when our combined 2B stats are .192BA?? I don't get how he hasn't got an extended look there yet ....I actually think he gives us the best chance to win at 2B, he's not one of the polar opposites in Sanchez (great D, terrible O) or Johnson (okay O, terrible D). My opinion -- let Emilio get a look at 2B, keep Sanchez up, let him rest and recoup. Maybe try Sanchez one more time near the end of July if Emilio isn't working out --- or as Emilio is gaining trade value --- and then if Sanchez doesn't seize that opportunity let's hope that Micah has learned some fundamentals on D. my sentiments exactly.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) They lead baseball in most runs scored on the road. does any one remember the sox coach who was adapt at stealing signs from the catcher??? what was his name?? either way, maybe they are doing the same thing. it was a old time gift of the old times in baseball.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Dropping Johnson was still absolutely the right move. No way should he have been rewarded with a mlb roster spot with his historically bad stretch of defense. Im very shocked someone would argue against this at this time when weven been dreadful defensively, even without him. And if it hasn't improved significantly, then he should not be called up still. Whether giving Sanchez so many abs is a different argument. whether it is at this time or before, this argument would have to be with the mental midgets in the sox FO's.
-
QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:36 AM) I wish he would be. I wouldn't mind if they traded or DFA Emilio and kept Sanchez on the roster as a utility guy/platoon and defensive replacement player with Micah same thought here.

sfo, hou, and the yanks have a great assortment of prospects to trade for, and in that order.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) I wonder if the Nat's could have interest in LaRoche. A catcher like Pedro Severino might be a nice return. fyi, and i would be extremely happy if someone can correct my thought process. the sox does not really deal with wash, balt, either miami or tpa. ref stl, the couple times they tried to trade with each other, it didn't work out b/c each wanted too much. but it would be an interesting trading season.

For Those Who Question the Effort or Desire of the Players

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 11:58 PM) That has been my point all along. if it is Robin's fault, no one should complain about the players. If you think KW put together a horrible team, you can't blame RV for the poor record. If you have to blame KW, RH, RV,JR, you can't blame them all. If it is Robin's managing that is keeping this team from contention, then the other guys have done their job. If KW has taken over and set the Sox back until the next decade, then you can't blame RV when the Sox lose. Good managers don't win with bad players. Bad GMs don't put together teams that should win but don't because of the manager. guilt by association. there were examples of bad managing that has been pointed out on this site. but by all accounts, nothing positive will come from the sox FO. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) It feels like the White Sox are reminiscent of the Bulls in the late 70's/early 80's and waiting for their own Michael Jordan (which, of course, in baseball is usually not one superstar but a winning collection of players). Right now, it's the Quintin Daley and Jay Williams Curse...except it's the FREE AGENT/ALL IN Curse, because there certainly haven't been many injuries or drug problems with our players. We just can't select and/or develop a player to save our lives, other than pitchers. Ironic, of course, because the team on the other side of town that's getting 95% of the column inches has the opposite problem. Yet one has the feeling that Epstein and Hoyer won't panic and try to force something one year early, they're going to wait until July 31st and pick up a starting pitcher on the cheap....instead of taking advantage of a seller's market early in July like they've done the last 2-3 seasons. the sox did have those players...... it was the 90's

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) But, ya know, it's a manager's job to read his team, and help them stay confident. Just one of RVs endless failings. Wouldnt be expecting any kind of "spark" from a firing, but it's an essential start to the housecleaning. Of course Robin has to go - his players don't respond to him in any way that helps their performance. This is obvious. I don't how Eminor, DA, or any otherwise intelligent poster can defend him. What aspects of the job, exactly, do you think he's performing well in? Aw forget it. Rhetorical. The only real fear here is that a FO completely lacking in accountability keeps a terrible Mgr around for another year after this, knowing that RVs failure is theirs too, because they don't have the balls to admit it. the point is, at least for me, i think they will never admit to being wrong. i think they will continue to do what they are doing and blame someone else. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) I didn't say there should not be a trade. What I said was that I don't think that the Sox can afford to trade two starters. As you know, I have been favoring a trade of Shark, for quite a while. that is the problem of the future. it all depends on how the FO does the wheeling and dealing. personally i think they may trade Shark and that will be all.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) I agree with those who reject the idea of trading both Samardjiza and Quintana. That would leave this team with a weak starting staff, and probably still an anemic offense and poor defense. It makes far more sense to maintain the one strength they have, which is after all, the most important part of a team; PITCHING. Of course, they are going to have to acquire one or two more impact bats, but not at the expense of trading two starters. Does anyone think that Davis could be signed as a free agent, after the season? I'm sure that it would require a very expensive contract, but he would look pretty good as a DH to replace La Roche. if a trade isn't done, how do you really expect the sox to fix the holes they have, thru FA route??? that is really not a realistic idea.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) Umm...he's already been up to Chicago this year and faced MLB hitters. i don't remember.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 05:31 PM) I like him too, but more as a reliever given his pitch set. man, he surprise the crap out of me, meaning his success. i am wondering, when the lineup gets expanded, how he would do pitching to mlb players. i will be stoke about that.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) Let's go crazy and look at the last 55 years: just FIVE playoff appearances for this franchise since 1960! Noodle on that for a few moments! And then we wonder how a team that has been around as long as the Chicago White Sox has been unable to build a robust fan base. you see, you are seeing the playoff as the eventual point of success. i am seeing the potential of the team that could have wreak havoc, but didn't b/c of lack of that one vital player. edit..... the 90's are a perfect example.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) Just an example, I am not necessarily saying they should do it: Trade LaRoche to the Cardinals who pick up his whole salary and give us a lottery ticket. Sox sign Chris Davis in the offseason to be their DH for the next four years. Napoli and Morneau would be other options. None of them are perfect, for sure. better yet, as you said, i agree with the Adam idea, even throw in Sanborn - rp to entice them. let the offseason be in the off season. many things can happen with ref to trades and prospects.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) Oh I agree that Oduya still very well can sign with another team. And the Sharp return won't be great, Stan waited to long I think. well either way, i want the best for the hawks to continue to get those shinning cups. now remember, it still may happen as you and many hopes. i just like to deal with the current events and not dreams. i have been dreaming of those cups since the 60's..... and now having 3, i am greedy, i want 4 more. consecutively. ..... see, i too can dream.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Posted this in another thread, but once Shark and maybe a few bench pieces are moved, I think both Johnsons will be up. my predictions: Shark traded for prospect(s); E. Johnson comes up Beckham, Soto, Bonifacio traded for PTBNL or cash (this month or next through waivers); replaced by Micah who takes over at second (or Sanchez sent down in favor of more versatile L. Garcia), Kottaras who comes up to be backup C, and Davidson to platoon or get a good long look at at third. Possible but unlikely: LaRoche to Cards or Angels for prospect(s); Gillaspie, Garcia, Melky, Abreu then get at bats between (DH/1B/OF) with Thompson coming up to play left/right. I don't consider this "dismantling" the team like Hahn and KW said they wouldn't do. i like the idea of trading superfluous players, but i would ask for int't money and slot or comp picks and slot money.

QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 05:10 AM) I've been flipping through the mlb pipeline website for prospects among the contending teams in the #3 to #5 range, and boy is it slim pickings. The Yankees top 5 prospects: #1 Luis Severino, an undersized 2-pitch pitcher #2 Aaron Judge, a 6'7" RF who has a lot of power with a lot of swing and miss #3 Jorge Mateo, a 20 year old shortstop in the Sally League who may have to move off short because of a weak arm #4 Greg Bird, a defensively challenged first baseman #5 Robert Refsnyder, a defensively challenged second baseman How about Houston: #1 Carlos Correa, SS, he's not going anywhere #2 Mark Appel, RHP, he's not going anywhere #3 Domingo Santana, he's a .300 hitting outfielder with some swing and miss problems #4 Vincent Velazquez, RHP, he's not going anywhere #5 Michael Feliz, RHP, I doubt that he's going anywhere The Dodgers (say it like Vin Scully): #1 Corey Seager, SS, will not be traded in a Samardzija deal #2 Julio Urias, LHP, probably will not be traded in a Samardzija deal #3 Grant Holmes, RHP, pitching in the Midwest League #4 Jose DeLeon, RHP, pitching at AA Tulsa, intriguing, fastball-slider-change. He's been a wee bit tateriffic since his promotion #5 Alex Verdugo, OF, playing in the Midwest League Three contenders, one intriguing prospect. That's not to say that Corey Seager isn't intriguing, but he won't be coming over in a trade for Samardzija. Toronto is looking like a good trading partner for the Shark. great post and har work. many thanks. that is why i am saying, lets get several prospects out side the #5, for a visual ref, and get 1 more player, and fill the holes of the org.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 04:08 AM) Do you two really believe the Blue Jays' FO is fickle enough to become more interested in Shark because of one start against their own team? Yes. Realism. esp to give up #1 or #2 top ranked prospects..... for those who thinks so. get real.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 09:58 AM) I feel like people on here forget how good the teams all looked on paper going into the seasons 2009 and beyond. Our superstars failed us or got freak injured- quit hanging KW out to dry and get the f*** over it. CQ ruined his career when he broke his hand but how the hell could anybody know that at the time? Peavy was a BAMF. Rios was free and finally solidified CF. PK in his end prime years. Who the hell would blow that kind of team up and rebuild? We were stacked. Mercy. it is not exactly his fault, he is but a puppet, but maybe he is dictating the org policy or direction.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) Here's the problem. You're right, how many of those teams seemingly "looked good on paper"? All of them but 2014 right? And yet as a franchise we're below .500 since that time and have 0 playoff appearances? You can even take that back farther, how many other White Sox teams looked really good on paper and completely missed the playoffs? That seemed like an anthem of this franchise in the 2000s as well. So if we "constantly look good on paper" and yet the team completely fails to achieve even the goal of making the playoffs...it's time to stop and re-evaluate the decision making process leading to the conclusion that the team "looks good on paper". What assumptions can we challenge that are proving incorrect? Are we neglecting things like defense or baserunning, things that impact the game a lot but are hard to quantify? We've got so many different guys, such as those from your list, who break down or struggle right when they get to us - is there something wrong with the decision making process that leads us to acquire guys who immediately underperform? Maybe we're spending too much money and trading away too many players to acquire guys at an age where they're at a higher risk of failing. Maybe we're giving away too many draft picks to sign moderate level free agents or guys who are too late in their careers. Maybe we're trying to play too many guys out of position to get them in the lineup. Maybe we're just trying to fill too many holes through free agency and trades because we're not producing our own players. Maybe the lack of fundamentals is hurting us. Maybe we're projecting guys contributions based on career years that they're not likely to match at their ages. Maybe people are playing through too many injuries because of a lack of bench depth. Maybe guys aren't physically or mentally ready for seasons. Over and over and over again...exact same result. "looks good on paper. how did we wind up below .500?" In that case...something is wrong with the logic that leads you to think the team looks good on paper. You're constantly overlooking something, probably several, systemic problems. nice post, and at the end of the day, or in this case, at the end of the season, which players rebounded and which didn't. what would that tell you or anyone???

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) I have the feeling Q would like to pitch against the White Sox. with what the sox are paying Adam, do you think the owners will allow that on a regular basis for the rest of the season???

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 03:14 AM) They definitely should of gotten rid of Sharp and Bickell at the draft, I agree with you there, Stan set the bar too high on Sharp I believe. Both Hawks beat writers, Chris Kuc and Mark Lazerus have tweeted that Oduya and Kruger are both waiting for the Hawks to clear cap space, essentially this means they already have agreed to terms. If Oduya wanted to leave, he could of the first day of free agency. Morin has nothing left to prove in the AHL, he's done well there. He's a fringe player (3rd liner on bad teams, 4th-13th forward on good teams) most likely, he has a good shot, just doesn't play defense at all. That's why he hasn't found success, especially with a team coached by Q. if a team comes in with the yrs and money, Oduya will sign with them. just b/c is agrees, at least in principal, doesn't mean he will not sign a contract if that contract is in front of him, ready to sign. as i said, with what stan wanted as a rtn for sharp, lets see if he comes any where near that.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 02:42 AM) Kruger and Oduya have basically agreed to deals with the Hawks. Its just a matter of time of trading Sharp and Bickell to do so to get that done, so it's on Stan now to get it done asap. I have Morin in the line up as the 13th forward or packaged in a deal with Bickell. He's not an AHL player because he'll dominate that, he's an NHLer, just not on this team most likely. What If the Hawks gave Saad 6 million, and still couldn't find takers for Sharp and Bickell? Saad was going to get an offer sheet, Hawks were afraid of that. So, instead of just getting draft picks, they got some proven talent to help fill some holes on the current roster because draft picks doesn't help the team win next year. the hawks could have gotten rid of bickell and sharp and a total of 9.9 mil off the books before draft day. the next player to go would be steeger and his 2.2 mil. ref oduya, let the hawks do the trade and when he signs, then fine. until then, he is a fa. it is really simple. i am talking about real time situations. not what could happen. morin will dominate the ahl.... ok, in that statement, i really see how ........ well i won't finish this thought process. i am done with you.
-
Saad priced himself out of consideration for the Hawks. No way they could of paid that. and if the hawks had traded those players you mention and without caring of the rtn, Saad may still have been a hawk. Vladamir Tarasenko who scored 21 more points than Saad, in 5 less games, and is the same age, just got a 8 year 60 million dollar deal which = to 7.5 a year. Saad isn't close to his level and only making 1.5 million less. what does a player have to do with the hawks roster. different philosophy and different approaches with different priorities. lets keep the discussion with the hawks org Look, I was shocked and disappointed Hawks traded Saad, but they did get a 2 line center locked up long term now who will be playing with Kane, and Dano who is 20 who could be just as good as Saad, especially if he is on the Toews/Hossa line which I think he will. At this point, I expect a deal for Sharp similar to what Leddy got. A pretty good prospect, and some AHL depth. Panarin-Toews-Hossa Dano-Anisomov-Kane lets wait and see hope he does, he has some injury history i am concern with Teuvo-Tikonrov-Versteeg Desjardins-Kruger-Shaw Morin/Tropp morin was in Q doghouse, do you think it has change?? Keith-Seabrook Oduya-Hammer oduya hasn't even signed, b/c of the salary cap restrictions. you are penciling him in and he is not on the team... get real. TVR-Johns Rundblad the other 2 russian still may have signed one way or another, the 1 player i am looking to see is Dano. however, this whole adjusting salary cap is a bigger screw up than Tallon did, and posters stated the tallon incident before the draft.
