  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) This list reminds me how much I want Jakson Reetz when they picked Fry last year. Then I feel sad. i know what you mean. last yr on the draft thread, i wanted and posted that the sox should draft him. oh well it didn't happen i am am trying to keep a positive outlook.
  2. here is my point on this site. this site i have posted, may vary in alot of ways, but it does provide a FYI kind of info. nice reading. this was based on this morning.... http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/John-Jaecke...pdate/128/69980
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) I would take on Pentcost, but only as a lower value player... more of a damaged goods buy, then a future star buy. I'd need a headline player, such as Hoffman, to make this happen. as i already posted, i understand, and i can see what you are saying, this would be a great move, if the sox only needed a couple of pieces. but that is not the case. the systems needs, esp in trading a nice looking player, quantity.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) That's why you're also asking for Hoffman. If Hoffman pans out, you can flip one of Montas/Hoffman/Fulmer for a position player. nice way of thinking, but why take a chance on pentcost, this is the market in which there will teams looking to add sp's. now, tor may need 2 sp's, but is for another discussion. the sox can ask for several other prospects to sweeten the deal, bot for me, there is no way i would trust in taking pentcost.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) With Toronto you ask for Hoffman and Pentecost. Buyers market. i know what you mean and i can see what you are trying to accomplish with this move. but i don't trust Pentcost value now. 2 surgeries on the same shoulder. i just don't know about that. the sox will or may trade, this team needs mlb or neat mlb ready players. Pentcost is now at least 1 yr behind in development. he will not or can not take short cuts in his training. that is too much of a risk to take at this time.
  6. QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) Hoffman could become an ace as soon as post 2016 all-star break. Max Pentecost has the bat to start in 2017, despite the surgery. But he may not have the arm to stick at catcher if the surgeries aren't as successful as hoped. interesting. while Tor doesn't have the top tier level of talent, but they have some interesting players who can be everyday kind of players. Re Hoffman, i really doubt Tor will be willing to include him in a pkg, but for me, this is fantasy time. i really like Hoffman and Sean R Foley. i also like Richard Urena - ss, even thou he is 19 yo. then they have various type of prospects who can help this team now. i trust Hahn to do the right thing, depending on the direction of the next phase of rebuild.
  7. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) I think once interleague play started in '97, the All Star Game became irrelevant. The whole point of it was to take the best from each league and give them a chance to play against each other and for fans to see players from the other league that they normally wouldn't. Now that the leagues play each other anyways, it's pretty pointless. good point, i knew there was a reason why i had change my lack of enthusiasm for the ASG. now you identified it. i agree.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) There was a lot of worry about Oduya when he came here. Daley will adapt and will be more responsible in his own end now. don't take what i am about to say wrong. but..... when any player no matter whether he is a rookie or a vet, under Q system, they will have to learn the system. our opinion, as fan really won't really matter. it is now up to that player and the system and the coaches. that is what makes this team great.... all the players brought into the system. i saw this kind of excitement in when Pulford was coach, Sutter, Keenan..... there were all strict coaches who coached with a heavy hand and instill, playing both side of the puck. the gm has a harder job to identify those special kind of players who can play and buy into the coaches system.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) If Cueto moves, then you will get all of the teams that didn't get him have to panic. excellent and i agree,...
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) I think Toronto stands down from trading for starting pitching and rolls the dice with calling up Norris to help. Toronto could still trade for a bullpen arm which would not cost nearly as much. Imo, Toronto is doing the right thing in keeping Norris and Stroman. Yep, the tigers do not sound as though they want to trade Price so it comes down to Cueto and possibly Samardzija. If Cueto goes first it could make the few remaining teams looking for SP even more desperate for Samardzija and drive his price up a tad. exactly, and the price for any of those teams will raise, in order to entice the club to make that trade. supply and demand. will be in play here.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) Houston reportedly interested in Cueto to go along with their interest in Samardzija. Could be good for the Sox if they decide to trade Samardzija because Cueto likely costs more in a trade. Fwiw, Samardzija earns 200k less this year than Cueto so the salaries are pretty much a wash. "As the Reds prepare to market staff ace Johnny Cueto, the three teams with the most earnest interest are the Astros, Blue Jays, and Royals, Nightengale adds on Twitter. Cueto’s cheap contract looks to be a significant factor in that interest, given that all three of those clubs currently operate at a lower payroll capacity (Houston, Kansas City) or reportedly lack financial flexibility at the deadline (Toronto)." Mlbtr, Astros rumors. I'm doubt seriously the Royals would trade for Samardzija so they could give Houston some competition for Cueto although Houston has more to offer. This is going to be very interesting. in some way, the reason that is being spoken by hou and those others, Cueto is readily available for a team who is looking for the serious playoff run. now chi part in this is, if and i mean if chi is out of the race or if the org wants to start trading assets, then Shark can instantly be thrust into the mix. but lack of that knowledge, teams only have Cueto to compete for.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 05:59 AM) This is also why you can never point to a specific pick as evidence that a team can or cannot draft. except for the whole time the sox tried not to draft a specific agent clients in the top 1-4 rounds. also the sox appears not to draft players who didn't want to receive lower than expected salary. the draft today, does help in the parity of the slotted money bonuses.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) Sounds like Sale pitching Sunday could still be the plan. After reading the article it sounds like Sale has no animosity at all about not pitching the ASG. "I don't make calls like that," he said of whether he will start Sunday. "[but] absolutely, any time you get an in-division rival, those are the games you need, those are the games you want. Like I said before, I'm here to pitch, whatever they've got for me, I'm game for it." http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/136...ll-star-victory If Sale goes Sunday I really hope the Sox get creative and skip Danks and go with Samardzija, EJ, Q, Sale for the Sox/Royals series. interesting point, with ref to the bonuses that is associated with the ASG, being selected, fulfills that requirement. however the team and the org does come first.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) Sounds like Toronto could be out of the mix if what's said is true. "The Blue Jays are “regularly being asked for Marcus Stroman” as a return in trades for pitching, reports Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. Despite the fact that Stroman won’t contribute to the team in 2015 after tearing his ACL this spring, the Blue Jays won’t be trading him, Davidi writes. Looking at the trade history of GM Alex Anthopoulos, Davidi notes that it’s probably more likely to see the Blue Jays acquire someone with some team control remaining. " Per mlbtr. Fine with me as I'm not impressed with anything Toronto has outside of Stroman and Norris. in my opinion, you make a great point. but this does pose as a problem/ before this, TOR needed a sp and a rp to make the run. now, if they still want to be in the mix. they will need 2- starting pitchers and a rp. that is too much to ask for and the price would be too much to pay.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) I can see why the TV ratings are horrific. Blackhawks were hot and looking strong throughout the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Sox became irrelevant early and incredibly boring while falling out of the race after a short period of time. I don't want to get in an Ozzie argument, but the White Sox have a small fanbase and if you are going to suck right out of the gate, most of Chicago (not us zealots but most of the city) will not even cconsider watching the Sox on TV. With Ozzie, he at least kept us on the front page, so to speak or at the top of the Internet webpage. If you are going to suck, at least suck with controversy and flair. Let's face it ... we'll watch every game but most people? They deemed the Sox not worth their time a long time ago. sad, very sad commentary of the fans but it is true. for my disclaimer, i am not a fan of ozzie.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Though I will say this much. The Ranger could be an interesting partner for the White Sox as they have highly rated prospects at bothy 3B and C. Could a Alfaro and Gallo package get the talks for Q rolling? That could be interesting. this is my point of view. in trading Shark, yeah, i can see the sox filling or getting players who can help fix holes this team has. but if Q is also added to be traded, the sox really need to get another pitcher back in any trade. next yr rotation is too much of an unknown.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:13 AM) Have you ever seen Trevor Daley play? He's a 4th defenseman; he's not John Scott. And they'll still be a fringe playoff team. you are taking my post in from a statement i made in ref to, if they hawks can not add another experience d-man to the mix. now ref to Daley, yeah, i watched him in games when there was nothing else to watch in the regional games. what i remember is a player who is offensively skilled. really skilled. has problems matching up bodies in or after a check. very limited in the physical dept. so have you EVER seen Daley play??? i will ask you the same question. furthermore, in Q system of play, all players must be responsible for their position, forecheck, backcheck, also need to be able to go on a dime, on the attack by pushing the puck in or setting themselve in a position to help or to score. players playing for Q can not cherry pick, circle the perimeters for that outlet pass, and most importantly they have to be able to take the body. that is another reason, rookies really are frown up or plays as little as they do, b/c they, when being put into Q system, has to learn additional parts of their responsibility for their position, under Q way of playing.
  18. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 07:43 PM) That's why I specifically asked if you were talking about Santiago...it's all adding up now. and i was completely lost. many thanks for the classy way of doing it. peace.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) The draft is like hitting a baseball. You will get a lot more outs than hits, but if you are skilled and have a good approach, you will be successful. A lot of high draft choices bust. Conor Gillaspie, e.g., was a first round draft choice, but the team that drafted him has won 3 WS since. I read that Tampa hasn't had a player drafted in rounds 1-10 succeed in the majors since the 2007 draft. oh, i am going to try to say this nicely b/c i do not want to offend anyone. but look at the sox and who they have drafted in the first round. some of still developing and some didn't make it. the judging of skills in baseball, of me, is one of the biggest hit or miss of any sports.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) Daley is an offensive upgrade, but Oduya is much more dependable defensively, definitely a bit of an overall downgrade. i know Q is tough and can get alot out of his players...... but this???
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) Ugh, i was hoping for a small miracle, but without moving money quickly, there was no way. you make a great point in this statement. also know this, there is no way in hades that any org out there is going to help the hawks. they are all wanting their pound of flesh and are thinking of ways to rape this org. this is the cost of the hawks be a success and parity. either way, if and when the hawks makes the moves, i still see a need of a experience d-man.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 06:14 PM) Hector Santiago was traded in the big 3 team deal that sent Adam Eaton to the White Sox. crap..... i screwed the pooch on this. i honestly thought you were talking about Héctor Noesí this is on me my bad.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) The dirty secret is that the vast majority of all people drafted will fail. There is also the obvious fact that the White Sox spent nearly a decade intentionally underspending on the draft and minor leagues in general. The last few years are a different story, and we are already seeing results and changes because of it. you are correct...... the draft has always been a crap shot.
  24. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) Lol alright man I have to dig a little further into this then...Why exactly is an all-star quality pitcher, in the American League no less, not even good enough to be a big leaguer in your eyes? tsk... tsk... all you youngster can't see the woods thru the trees. in all seriousness, when Hestor was released are DFA, or whatever he was. i would have seen teams bidding for his services. it wasn't like his salary being a problem. however, he is pitching in the minors.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) Rodon also had to be shelved because the minor league seasons were ending and they went right up to the deadline for signing him while negotiating with Boras. Calling him up would have cost them a year of free agency for him and they weren't doing that after that negotiation. interesting......
