SoxNet: What can the White Sox get for Jeff Samardzija?
LDF replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
i just got this warp thought..... can you imagine shark being traded to KC ...... -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) He's 2/20 since the AS break. many thanks for that... which reinforced my point of Jose has to be really injured.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) Hi I'm Balta. ahhh a nice group of one. ummm
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) He is hurt and couple that with the Sox inability to produce and a player like Jose puts pressure on himself to do more than he can do. He is swinging at pitches out of the zone a lot. But, that hand injury has kind of made him a singles hitter right now and people need to remember if he is swinging with relatively 1 hand, he is still making contact and making singles. this reminds me of the movie 6, mickey mantle only had 1 arm and he did great, even hitting a homer. bottom line, you need 2 hands to swing hard..... now if jose is only using 1 hand.... shelve him.

in my response, being part apache and yous guys europeans..... so in essence this post, my post for today is my way of shoveling some BS around and i acknowledging it. down here me and my cuz during some of the get togethers, start, for lack of words, talk about another rebellion. now as we continue in our discussion, and then it gets more serious.... then we start talking about an uprising. now in the more, we all then talk of the nasty hangover we have and say fuvck it. but it was a good night.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) But it takes 2 teams. Maybe Hahn wants to trade today, but he needs a buyer to be willing to trade now instead of waiting closer to the deadline no one really knows. but it is always good to get several teams bidding. if the possibility of selling and the rtn is better than the comp pick do it. just don't haggle for the sake of haggling now. be the first to strike.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) True. But it's a sunk cost, and is irrelevant under logical financial thinking, but with the White Sox, it never is. See Beckham and Bonifacio. yeah that part drives me crazy.... the illogical moves they do and claim it is for the betterment of the team.

QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:39 PM) I think with Shark the sox would be smart to be the ones to strike first. excellent and now with anderson getting hurt.....
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) Soto should play DH more. Actually, I hope he's traded, but until then, DH that will never be. considering what there are paying adam laroche.....
-
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:11 PM) The sox in the burbs would draw as bad as the Rays. And that's assuming the sox were playing as well as the Rays. i don't know... in Addison maybe.... there was some discussion for, if i remember right a place of the 290 right by central exit.
-
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) Where? The tract of land next to the tracks? Where there would be only ONE access point at Roosevelt? That's why that site hasn't been developed yet for any project let alone a baseball stadium that holds 45k i didn't know that.... but weren't there talking of building an additional exit and entrance there??? i can't remember.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) I think a lot of it depends on the projections for Anderson and if the Sox can trade for a 3B or SS. Personally, I've really enjoyed watching Saladino so far at third. His swing doesn't seem to have any glaring holes that i've noticed so far and his defense definitely plays. The fact that he has amassed a 0.4 WAR in 33 plate appearances tells me he might cement himself as the third basemen going forward. So in that case, the big question is if Anderson's defense is going to be good enough to play at SS. If it is, he will be the the SS for the next 5-10 years. If not, I imagine he will get slotted at 2B and the Sox will look for an outside solution at SS. I dont know that Micah or Sanchez will be complete enough players to be the future at second. good reasoning .... that is why i said it is very important this yr between now and end of summer, for saladino to have reps fielding the ss, position.

but as someone said, the pitchers like throwing to flowers, and that has to be taken into consideration. but that doesn't mean the sox should stop from improving the position. and have flowers to a mentor ship.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) The only things that make sense is that the pitchers like throwing to Flowers more like we know Sale does, and/or Soto isn't healthy enough to handle an everyday workload. He's been far superior in every aspect basically, and is only slightly behind Tyler in pitch framing this year. considering there is only 2 catchers on this team.... sorry. i just couldn't help it.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) Spectre trailer dropped today and looks really good. I thought Skyfall was one of the better Bond films in a long, long time and this one looks to be a continuation of the story. most excellent.... i love the way they did the royal and skyfall movies. i read all of the j. bond books.... simple reading but i love them.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) The Dodgers are certainly a team that the Sox could match up with. Their FO has been waiting for the inevitable roster crunch that has been put off for a while because of injuries. I doubt the Dodgers are going to move a bunch of their surplus given the way they operate, but they may move a piece or to. Especially when you consider than many of these players in the roster crunch were acquired/extended during the last regime. Personally, I doubt they trade Barnes but he'd be a nice get if you could finagle him in a Shark trade. Not sure the Sox are trying to trade for an OF but LA has Crawford/Ethier/Pederson/Puig/Guerrero/Heisey/Enrique Hernandez/Van Slyke with Scott Schebler, last offseason's stat-line prospect evaluator's favorite, doing okay in AAA. You would think Pederson and Crawford are the only locks to stay in that glut. On Guerrero, he has a clause on his contract that allows him to opt out of his contract at the end of they year in the case that he were traded. He also can't be sent down to the minors without his own permission. Oh, and he has not played 3B in almost two months and is a mess in the OF. So you have a guy who is inexperienced in the OF, who cannot play 3B, cannot get sent down to learn the OF and can opt out of his contract if traded. Guerrero is not a useless player, but he has no trade value because of the ridiculous contract the Dodgers last FO put together. i like all that you posted... and i now keeping adding anderson getting hurt and now dodgers may NEED to make a strong move .....

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) If the SS position can't be obviously upgraded this next offseason, you decline Alexei's option and sign him much cheaper perhaps with incentives where he gets paid if he performs. His fielding has been better, and he has hit slightly better lately. Perhaps he is coming out of his funk. I don't think he has declined physically as much as some think. nice thinking. a real option there.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:51 AM) I think that people saying he has upside has a lot to do with him having some power potential and being a .150-ish ISO player. I also think playing in Charlotte doesn't invalidate his production, we have stats that account for this. The raw number may not be that informative, but in general I think it's fair to be excited about and hope for some power numbers. many thanks for your analysis. very informative .....

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) At this point, is Juan Uribe less of an age-related risk than Alexei Ramirez? And if $9m doesn't make much of a difference, why can't we have both? If I thought what we're seeing from Alexei was his true-talent now, I wouldn't argue to keep him. But I'm also not saying that he's going to get back to his prime numbers. But there are a confluence of factors here: 1) There is evidence that suggests that he will produce MORE going forward than he has this year. 2) There is NOT evidence to suggest that our internal replacement candidates will produce more than Alexei going forward. 3) $9m is still a relative pittance to pay for a decent veteran stopgap SS 4) The $9m spent doesn't appear likely to preclude us from making any of the other potential veteran stopgap signings (like Uribe) that look likely based on the FA class. Now, if $9m turns out to be the difference between getting Weiters or not, this calculus may change. But I'm guessing that a lot of your will agree with me that Weiters at Boras rates in a weak positional FA class may be way too big of a risk anyway. I wanted to trade Alexei over the offseason because (a) he was at peak value, (b) I thought Leury Garcia or Carlos Sanchez could fill the gap reasonably well, and © I thought the team was another year away from starting to make a run at the WC. Now, 8 months later, ALL of that has changed. Alexei's value has never been lower, Sanchez/Garcia have failed to produce, and RH's plan is clearly to compete immediately. Based on that plan, I just don't think we have a better option than giving Alexei a chance to bounce back. wow !!!! excellent. just simple excellent.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Ok, but all of that begs the following questions: - Where do you put that $9m that will make a difference? - Who plays SS that is likely to produce more? - What do you gain by selling now (at the lowest possible value) versus later (at potentially higher value)? unless the sox deals with the idea that saladino, mj, or sanchez will take over, a ss in the fa market is going to cost more in money and yrs..... with Aelxei the sox know they still have hm for 1 more yr and 1 more yr for the continue development of anderson.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) This is hilarious to me. The sequence of all trade discussions since 2012: - This is going to be a sellers market and sox have some great pieces - Sox are just holding out for highest bidder - There are a lot of players out, people aren't just going to sell their farm - Listen, the return they got is reasonable, you can't compare our situation to x team that got way more rinse, repeat. in what you posted..... it is a sad commentary but very true.... the rest of the league is used to the sox dealing in a way and now it wants to chg that opinion.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) the past off season sure didn't. in some way i disagree..... we saw Hahn and the sox fo will make moves if they believed. however the job wasn't done. i still have faith in the sox fo, if the owners do get royally pissed, will spend..... now to get them to that point.
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) 2 weeks ago they were one one of the hottest teams in baseball record wise. and therein lies the problem..... it like what the Gypsies will call Gypsy summer.... a false summer or in this case a false hot streak that convinced the sox fo that anything was possible. now i am not blaming them for this hope, but the sox was lacking. i would have trusted the hot streak and i stated it then. but then again i was for the white flag trade as well.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Uh, oh, you just joined "Team/Camp Balta." haha ...... who are the active menbers of that camp???
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) Looks like Jason Vargas might have a serious injury...MRI today, major DL time and they absolutely have to make a move with Ventura banished to the minors for the time being. i saw that...... i hate to gloat or anything but it does make it a sellers market.....
