  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) If you're going to constantly b**** and complain about the Sox not spending enough on players, I'd prefer you just become a Yankees fan. I'm tired of hearing about this. i was thinking the same about you, i don't see you posting anything. btw, this is a forum and you can easily ignore what anyone post. you are sooo funny.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) There was a more in depth article about this with dates, etc. JR isn't pursuing tampering charges because he considers Beeston his best friend in baseball. What I don't understand is how can he be up in arms over this, if he really is, and not be over the Ozzie to Miami move which was even more clearly, tampering? I think most of his anger is the workings behind Beeston's back rather than actually tampering. I'm sure every team, including the White Sox, has technically tampered at some point. you made a very good point on ozzie.... i just chalk it up to the sox wanting ozzie out of here, the quicker the better.
  3. tick ...... tock ...... tick ...... tock ..... it is soooo lonelly waiting by myself. tock .... tick..... tock ..... tick. ....
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/report...&ocid=yahoo To join the ongoing list with Sirotka/David Wells, Marco Paddy, Sergio Santos, Keith Law, etc. i find this funny... now its like JR saying ok, we the sox will do nothing, but now the slate is clean.
  5. nice post. in the AL west. the only team i see that can give the angels a run would be Tex. that team as made is really uhhh underrated. in the AL East, i still Bos as the team. i can't even see anyone else. that doesn't mean some other team will not make a run, i just don't see it. AL Central.... i will refrain. i am too much of a chi person that i will not be neutral.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) Kottaras, Brantly and Nieto (when it matters) if you are thinking that Nieto will be up in the majors, i don't see that happening. he really needs a full season of at bats and time behind the plate. my thinking is that the sox see potential and the sox want to fully develop Nieto. beyond him, does the sox really have another potential full time major league catcher in the minors??

    Vince Coleman

personality aside, Vince Coleman was a game changer esp when he was on base. he made the other teams pitcher change their game plan, he made the other teams defense more aware and esp he made the other teams catcher sweat bullets. so the question is is there another player like that playing, and do you think that Micah Johnson of the sox can be a little of VC??
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) It's rankings week at FutureSox! Tomorrow (Tuesday) we are going to publish prospects 16 through 30 with capsules... then Thursday the full list including capsules for 1-15, the 16-30 list, and a list of players who just missed. There will be a pinned PHT thread for it tomorrow. Meanwhile... any predictions? ok.... today is tuesday.... where is this list... i am dieing here.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 02:55 AM) Um, $180 million is less than Scherzer actually got. if you don't mind 2 question. 1 are you saying the max deal of the contract is 180 mil??? 2 have i ever said anything about signing Scherzer??? i am saying and been saying from the beginning of the offseason, short term contracts. contract that will expire in a year or 2. i have a reason which i have yet to explain for this. on another thread later..... but back to this. i am in the understanding he is talking about the total salary for the sox to reach 180 mil.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 03:53 AM) http://news.moviefone.com/2013/10/04/hobbit-trilogy-cost/ Not exactly, Hobbit An Unexpected Journey ended up costing over $500 million, which is supposedly more than the first three LOTR movies combined. unless i am reading this wrong, as i said 600 mil for the whole 3 movies to be made.... which was made up in the first release. then the 2 and final movie is all pure profit.
  11. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) Lol why? Because we didn't give max 180 million? did i ever say anything about max out anything...let alone 180??? where are you getting this absurd number ??? jeeze... i have been spouting about short term players via trade. then let those players walk and let the farm start sending players to the majors. they, the sox will use reclamation players, yesteryear prospects that fell off the radar, hoping to catch magic again.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 01:48 AM) Hobbit (total international)...a little over $1 billion Desolation of Smaug....$960 million Battle of the Five Armies...currently sitting at $867 million (just made almost $50 million this past weekend in China and definitely will make it to at least $900 counting China alone) all that is shear profit..... sweet.

    2015 Films thread

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 01:17 AM) Taken 3 wasn't as terrible as some of the reviews, but it's clearly a case or diminishing returns with that franchise. A notch down from The Equalizer, which isn't one of Denzel's best movies by a long shot. Finally saw The Hobbit finale here in China (Hunger Games finally arriving next month)...it made around $50 million this past weekend despite the long delay in order to protect local Chinese films in December. It was okay/decent, but that's about as far as I'll go. Definitely time to close the book on that trilogy and for Peter Jackson to move on to new challenges. ref taken3, it was really bad editing in which they had a stunt man to the running for liam in the sewers. but at least i hope they had a conclusion to the series. easy entertainment. Equalizer really surprise me on how good it was. the hobbit made all its money if the first installment. part 2 and 3 were nothing but gravy... easy entertainment. i really can't come around to see hunger games at the movie.... i hate the last book. i am finally seeing intersteller. i am just past the first hour. man it is good. a few holes....
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 12:05 AM) 2019 and as i have always said..... what the in hades to i know.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 12:43 AM) Nevermind..I looked it up. Yep, they are at 120M + 78M so $198M before factoring in stadium and merchandising revenues. From a cost perspective you obviously have player, stadium maintenance, etc. But man, with that type of initial return, it certainly means you can easily put up a $120M payroll no problem (without even sneezing about losing money). Phils TV deal calls for $200M annually (5 B over 25 yrs). The Angels are probably a better comparison than the other teams and their deal calls for a rights average of $95M and an annual average of $147M. The reason I use the Angels as a good example is they kind of share an extremely large market (albeit they aren't directly in the LA market) with another team and are the "second" fiddle team. Clearly Angels have been the more successful franchise over the past decade from a consistency perspective and I am not sure on the ratings draw they bring. Part of this also happens to deal with when teams have signed these lucrative contracts as all the top deals have been entered into the past couple of years and its been a while since Sox negotiated and none of us know what the value is of their equity stake. now you know why that sCrub team from the morthside is pissed and was saying they can't wait until their contract is up, what, 2017. talk about a team that is doing arse backward. now is the time to take over chi media for the summer boys.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 12:54 AM) Jeffrey Maier, Yankees/Orioles dang, i am glad someone was able to decipher what i wanted to say.... maybe sometime later, you can explain it to me.
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 11:39 PM) Maybe I understood this incorrectly because I skimmed the article, but tickets are all digital now? That sucks. It's a tradition for my Dad and I to keep out ticket stubs and write down anything memorable that happened during the game on the back of the ticket. I have a few of those computer printed tickets, and they just look cheap and don't fit nicely with all the regular sized tickets. Also, I have my ticket from Buehrle's no-hitter framed and I think that frame would look awfully dumb with a computer printed ticket behind the class. oh man that is old school and what a great memorable piece for history.... to show any one kids. i got to give you credit for have the due diligence to do that, and to save them.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 11:43 PM) Nevermind..I looked it up. Yep, they are at 120M + 78M so $198M before factoring in stadium and merchandising revenues. Part of this also happens to deal with when teams have signed these lucrative contracts as all the top deals have been entered into the past couple of years and its been a while since Sox negotiated and none of us know what the value is of their equity stake. so let me rehash a statement that was made some weeks back. 'unless the fans can show interest, we the sox org can not afford a payroll over 105 million. maybe a little more." i am using red to emphasis this.
  19. i am going to rehash this thread for the same reasons as i used before. with spring training upon us, or should i say around the corner. with out shields finding a destination, i see bos as the real threat in the AL and the sox being at least tied at 3rd. what are your opinions.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 10:52 PM) You joke, but Baseball Prospectus had him at 2, with Anderson at 1. really??? i would like to know how they are coming to this opinion. don't get me wrong, anderson future is great but compare to the potential of rodon?? for me, i like montas as #3 and i would put adams at #4. but that is me.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 11:08 PM) You asked for predictions. Nothing is guaranteed. I just know how the admins on this board think. Rodon is the hype. lets have a coup.... hang the admins
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 11:28 PM) FOR LDF This doesn't factor in the new national broadcast rights deal for MLB, which someone in this thread pointed out provides $78 million guaranteed per team (as opposed to the previous $14-15 million)...and then the new regional rights deal, where a realistic number for the White Sox would be somewhere between the Mariners (around $120 million) and Rangers. (Of course, in the last year or so the Dodgers and Astros situations have caused some media skeptics to predict a "bust" in these RSN riches before the Sox can make their own deal. The Cubs are already positioning/posturing/predicting.) That will be a BIT more complicated with JR and Co. controlling 40% of Comcast at the moment. At any rate, we're easily capable of supporting $125 million...but, knowing the fans are going to be skeptical, they're not QUITE willing to go all in again because that approach in 2011 led to four pretty disappointing seasons (other than Abreu/Sale and the 2012 season until mid-September). ahhh i feel so honored.... hahaha i love it. this was sooo sweeet of a response i just can't make a reply.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) 2006 should be the goal, not 2005. Attendance-wise, there's always a one year lag to catch up, especially with new season ticket packages after the WS. great point.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 11:39 PM) The Dodgers lost the most money of any team in MLB, something like $80 or $90 million last year. there whole money for salary is being subsidize from the tv deal alone. what is it, 200 mil or more for the tv deal.
  25. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 12:06 AM) Abreu has a sophmore slump and LaRoche can't adjust to AL pitching. The front office is not going to have guys on the bench or in AAA who can make up for the drop in run production. Injuries can totally change a team's success but so can off-years by your star players. Bench players are usally guys who can fill in for short periods. But if Sale has control issues and ends up a .500 pitcher next year, pretty tough to pull him and have a suitable replacement. come on, you are trying to point out what i already have..... and do it in a different way. pls come up with some original to discuss. i am done responding to you.
