Sox sign Gordon Beckham, designate Viciedo for Assignment
LDF replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) Maybe the "Strong Arm of Beckham" grabbed Hahn by the balls and forced him to make a deal? ouch... just thinking of the pain. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) I am not a huge fan of that pick. If that is the way the draft board plays out I would rather either take Happ or work out an underslot deal with Bickford or Stewart and use the savings later in the draft to go over slot to replace the talent lost by not having a second or third round pick. not a bad why to think. i really like Kirby out of all the pitchers. but there is things to consider. which won't play out till spring training. i still like the players i originally posted about. but like i said, getting and developing all this info, new reason of many people to best gage the talent. in other words, make the best educated selection.

my idea will be very radical. last of the season will be around labor day weekend. extend the wc to 3 teams, best of 3 games, regular playoff games best of 5 and WS game best of 7 -

QUOTE (Stev-o @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) So, there's not one MLB team that would've offered anything for Viciedo? Unbelievable. i think that they might have.... only if the sox kicked in money to cover his salary. would you have traded for him, his salary and his defense if you were a gm? -

QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) I watched Gordon in his first spring training with the sox. I thought he was the messiah. Beckham proved to be disappointing after his initial debut. I hope he realizes his potential again even if it is in a limited role. but he ooozzz potential and talent. too bad he couldn't put it together in a season. pretty much like B Anderson. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) Jesus christ -- I thought we were finally done with this guy. To me, this seems like one of those situations where we're in danger of having the coach overplay him. EDIT: Also, this isn't how I envisioned getting rid of Viciedo, lol. woke up to this news.... i am between extremely happy, (DV) going and at an impass (GB) coming back. i was surprise but not totally unexpected. well i have to look to the good, DV is going. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Mail Order Bride + adoption. I'll have receipts for all of them.

waking up and reading this, about the system being 12th, and 4 player in the 120. nice... i like the idea of Rodon, Anderson, Montas, and here is where it gets dicey. Adams, M Johnson and even Danish. i am liking Adams, Johnson may have the tools, but his lack of hitting last yr.... Danish... he is steady. now i am still high on Jace Fry. another yr in developing... well that is my opinion.

QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) A decent starter would push Noesi to the bullpen and we would then have him for long relief or emergency starter if needed, essentially killing 2 birds also don't forget, many on the sox pitchers haven't gone long innings in the course of a season. now look at adding more innings, important innings for the playoff run.
-
QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) I'm thinking the same thing. We don't seem to have anyone if someone goes down for any length of time. I'm not counting on Rodon till he earns his place and you can't count on him for the whole year anyways. A guy like Carroll would kill our post season chances if we had to use him like we did last yr. you and i may be a minority in thinking like that, but many including JR, who is the owner, think otherwise. they have him pencil in as a starter. i wonder if this was a wink wink deal with his agent.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) We do have depth past that. We have Jesse Crain as a possibility, as well as the return of Nate Jones around the ASB. We also have some quality young arms that are probably going to Charlotte, such as Dan Webb and Surkamp. That doesn't include guys like Ynoa and Sanburn making a leap, or guys like Rodon and Montas would could start off in the pen some time this year if needed. there are prob a couple more that you didn't about mentioning, that goes to show how the relief pen is now getting stacked. i feel really confident in the positional players and the relief pen. i wonder who is out there really don't see that. remember, everyone has an opinion.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) No they should not. Michael Ohlman would be a waste of a 40-man roster spot. He'd probably be at least 7th on the catching depth chart right now behind Flowers, Soto, Brantly, Kottaras, Nieto, and Smith. ok, thanks for your opinion
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) I would be more than happy with Walker Buehler! so would i. but that is the problem with all this different mock draft, different writers see things differently. but then again, that is why i like to continue to read them, can pick up different opinions on their reasoning.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Soto? Yeah, I'm not sure he isn't the best catcher we have. I think his is a health question. but with Michael Ohlman, all he needs is to be added to the 40 man roster. let him continue to develop in the minors.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) I'd like to see Mike Adams added. Look at the bullpen every year of what it starts off as and what it ends up as ... there is always so much turnover. Guys who you think will perform who don't. Injuries, etc. 54 Ronald Belisario 39 Maikel Cleto 37 Scott Downs 65 Nate Jones 27 Matt Lindstrom 55 Felipe Paulino 46 Donnie Veal 60 Daniel Webb I know those guys didn't come up with nearly the same expectations - however its almost February - why not add a Mike Adams and a Billingsley and whoever else could be had on the cheap? They work out - great, if not, stick them in AAA or release them. Little risk, at least some reward. In terms of 4OF guys like Moises Sierra come to mind. I think we can survive without injuries with Emilio being a super sub and playing CF and Dayan being a RF, LF, DH, 1B super sub once and a while. as some has already pointed out to me.... the sox do not have the money, and have gone over their budget.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) I completely agree about stopping the WS from going into November. But I take the opposite side on tightening up the season vs. the postseason. I think the biggest momentum killer is clinching your division in August and then just waiting around forever for the playoffs, which could be over in three games. 90+ win teams deserve more of a buffer in the early part of the playoffs that a best-of-5 just doesn't provide. you have a good point .... but that is not a way to deal with the momentum killer. it is not playing and waiting. the sox, i think they won something like 95+ games. lamar hoyt was the main pitcher, they won the division really early, come playoff, they got swept.,... the biggest complain then was the momentum was lost. so as i said, you do have a great point, but the playoff as it stands needs to be fixed... and not by expanding it till Nov. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) There are still some interesting names out there for the White Sox: Brandon Beachy, Burke Badenhop, Mike Adams, Alexi Ogando, Joe Beimel, and Everth Cabrera. i like the idea of Everth Cabrera, if it wasn't for his legal troubles. a buy low, high reward, and hopes he stay out of jail kind of a guy. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) Well sort of. $210 actual cash, though the numbers I read suggest something around $170 or $180 million in present value. for me.... that is way too much for the yrs he wanted.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) If you can pick someone off late and cheap, you try it. If not, I am pretty happy with the pen we have now. i still like the relief pen as it is, and the sox have backup ready to step in if injury happens. i like to have that surplus ready to step in if needed.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 01:49 PM) Im not ashamed to say I made it to the 4th quarter right up until that ridiculous over the shoulder pass by Curry to Lee for the fastbreak dunk, turned off the tv and said "Nope. goodnight" Nice to wake up to a win. ahhh being superstitious, maybe that is why the bulls won.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Personally, I like 162. No matter what the postseason series is, it's a small sample. I like the one game play-in, and then make the LDS and LCS both best-of-5, and the World Series best-of-7. It would tighten up the postseason more. When a team clinches the LCS early and they have to wait 5-6 days before the World Series, it takes a lot of momentum away. The World Series will go into November this year, and that's got to stop. that is why i thought the season is too long. maybe as you said, tighten it up. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) XMen: Days of Future Past - 2 out of 5 stars. Hard to really get into the movie. Not a strong plot in . Quite a few little annoying nitpicks about the script's portrayal of 1973; while, the "future" scenes could have been made in a warehouse and with crazy CGI and probably were. A waste of time and acting ability for the great actors that were in the older films (Stewart, McKellen, Berry.) i don't know, i been really disappointed with the x-men series for a while now. thanks.

i think the season is too long. maybe by 3 weeks. i like the idea of having a series of 3 games and of 5 games. but it is not going to happen, the owners will loose money. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) Axford stands out to me. Cooper works with getting power guys more control in their pitching, so he could be a Spring invite, if anything. Axford is intriguing very intriguing, but i really like Brandon Beachy. i mention him in the beginning of this offseason. i like that he can fill both roles as a spot starter and relief. he has good stats and nice pitching profile. another pitcher that i am intrigue with is Ogando, same profile as Beachy. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) WE ALREADY WENT OVER THIS IN THE RELATIONSHIP THREAD GEEZ GUYS oops... sorry.
