QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) I still think Ichiro has some gas in the tank and could help out a team. He was underused the past couple seasons in NY in my opinion. However, adding him to the OF mix would not be beneficial to the Sox this season since the primary goal should be to get our young guys as many ABs as possible to look to contend in 2016 and going forward. Unfortunately, although Ichiro could help the Sox in 2015, it would not help their chances beyond this season it all depends if the sox pick up an outfielder or not. if not, he can be a quickfix at a low price and he might not hurt the team that much, offensively speaking.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) Given what aging vets like Martinez, Cruz, Martin and Sandoval are asking for, Kemp's sticker price with a subsidy is becoming more and more attractive by the moment. The more money the Dodgers eat, the more competition the White Sox face from other teams in terms of the talent they're willing to surrender. The huge advantage the White Sox have RIGHT NOW is the financial flexibility that only a handful of teams have outside of the 3 major markets to assume the Matt Kemp contract. exactly.... they want to play ball, entice Hahn to that that contract.

Which "bad" contract would you most be willing to take on?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 12:21 PM) Why would one be compelled to take on a "bad contract"? If the other team is throwimg in money, then maybe it isn't bad anymore. But you would have to know how much. well for the dodgers, to unload a player in the outfield. but these services the sox can provide should come with a price tag. Same thing with TOR. in addition, it can also help if the player can also help the team by filling in a hole. -
Rich Hanh is to Lassie as Kenny Williams is to VD. I trying to be nice to KW b/c of the WS championship he helped bring to the sox. speed freak.... I like it.
-
you are using too much logic with this. the cost is going to be what the 2 teams will agree. if I was receiving Kenp, Crawford I want the dodgers to eat more salary, to entice me to do the deal.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 06:26 AM) More here at full article General / breaking / rumor type of stuff here please. Thought having a consolidated place would be nice moving forward. yeah I agree esp if yesterday was a small sample of the excitement that I am positive Hahn will generate.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) I'm surely leaving some others out...that couldn't fit into the Top 10 Pujols Jayson Werth Cliff Lee Masahiro Tanaka (we won't really know until next year on this one) Edwin Jackson how bout Mark Buerle - p TOR. but I am bad in these things b/c I want a prospect from the team to do it. that is the price to pay. edit: no freaking way on AROD. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 06:39 AM) With prices of impact bats being in the $75-130 million range these days, I think you HAVE to bring up Anderson if the dynamic nature of his bat and overall offensive game (running, XB hits) force him into the line-up. It's a bit like Beckham (and it was something of a mistake, in retrospect) being moved from SS to 2B to 3B in the span of two years because of the desire to get his bat into the line-up as well. that is the point, rushing the timetable. I don't know, but I think the sox would be best serve if they would keep him in the minors to fully develop to his potential. he is a exciting prospects.

Don't Overlook the Job Hahn's Doing on the South Side

QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 04:36 AM) First time I've seen the Sox and Scherzer linked. Subtle hint drop or complete speculation? Interesting Cingrani from Dan Hayes... i know that took me by total surprise. Scherze???? i thought maybe Lester b/c he might be cheaper. i was waiting to write up why the sox should go after Lester. the reason i was also thinking of Lester, i bet Lester won't have a problem as the #2 sp. either way Scherzer or Lester. this will give the sox a solid and dangerous 3 sp's. whom ever is left in the starting rotation will just help the cause. then if / when Rodon comes up, look out. remember 1 thing, the starting pitchers don't go to 5 until what, the 2 nd week. also can you imagine the play off with either Scherzer or Lester. and yes, this will most really go over the 40 million the sox was projecting to spend. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 04:36 AM) Wasn't the original 2008 injury to the hamate bone when he hit the bat with his hand? He went from the odds-on favorite for MVP at that point to quite a pedestrial career overall, largely due to injuries. A bit reminiscent of one of my favorite all-time players, Eric Davis, who never did put it all together for anything more than blips or stretches. didn't he have a foot or a hip problem as well

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 04:14 AM) Ichiro is toast not that i am questioning what you said, but asking why??? he did put up some decent numbers.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 04:24 AM) Yes, and getting rid of some bad habits he developed playing in high school and junior college...where he could get away with not planting his feet firmly or making unorthodox/athletic/showy plays that nabbed the runner by a step or two at that level but don't work against faster runners in the pros. by all accounts, he should have at least 2 yrs of continue reps working in the minors to correct those habit. i have been thinking thou. what happens if his hitting becomes so good, would the sox forget about that extra yr and have him come up in 2016???

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 01:28 AM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/willia...&ocid=yahoo More thorough commentary from KW about where the team is headed in 2015 and off-season strategy. you know what, i am kind of excited that there might be a slim hope that the sox will add more than the 40 mil. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 01:34 AM) If we didn't already have Eaton on the roster, Crawford would be more interesting. Kemp doesn't make so much sense. It will come down to the asking price (prospects or salary subsidy) for Crawford and Ethier, if they look in the direction of the Dodgers. he still can be a valuable addition. plus when Eaton get hurt, he can help in other ways.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 01:18 AM) Montas, for sure, is the one with the best shot of exploding into the Top 100. Adams, until he proves himself for a full season in A ball, should be behind him. Just for that average fastball velocity alone, Montas deserves some serious consideration. that is the problem of all these top 10 etc.... they are all subjective. where are the guidelines that are the bases for judging. M Adolfo i have hopes for as i do for all sox prospects, but to arbitrarily post him in the top 10. i hope i am wrong.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 11:31 PM) Cuddyer rejected his QO, and signed w/ the Mets. Makes it less likely that CarGo, Stubbs, or Blackmon will be traded. They still have Dickerson on the team, so while they don't have 5 OF now, they still do have 4 of them. is Cuddyer going to play lf?

QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 11:45 PM) This Jung-Ho Kang fellow sounds rather interesting as a replacement at SS. If the Mets offered up Wheeler I couldn't say no. A rotation at midseason and beyond that features Sale-Q-Wheeler-Rodon is young and exciting. either way, he does sound enticing and can provide options. i wonder if he can play 3b? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 12:36 AM) The Rockies would be able to trade Carlos Gonzalez without eating any money for decent talent. They'd hang up if you tried Danks straight up for Gonzalez. Also, the Dodgers would not necessarily ask for money back if the Sox included Danks, but, depending on the play, they could want a player. Beyond even that, if you added Kemp and Carlos Gonzalez, then the Sox would be done making moves and you'd have yourself an expensive ass DH in Matt Kemp because Avisail Garcia, in all of his clumsiness, is a better defender than Matt Kemp. here are 2 question, what if any does Tor and Mets need. i love their minor leagues.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 12:34 AM) He's also due $62.3 mill over the next 3 years. He's a good player, but I don't know that he's what the Sox need right now. If the Dodgers would take John Danks, Matt Davidson, and Erik Johnson, yeah, I'd be all over it, but they'll be able to get more than that. I do think they end up moving both Kemp and Crawford and they'll go with Van Slyke, Pederson, Puig, and Ethier. If they do end up moving Ethier, I think it will be to the Sox, I think Danks will be involved, and I think the two parties will try and figure out a compromise for 2017 and Ethier is owed a lot of money while Danks is owed nothing beyond that. you are 100% right. i am just playing off the idea of the sox-dodgers trade. now if this was at another time and you asked me if crawford is worth the trade. my answer would be no freaking way. but i am excited to see what Hahn has in store. you know when the sox makes that first move, domino effect will happen.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 12:12 AM) He was 23 for 29 in steals. thanks i was off. either way, i still like his speed. bottom line he can still play ball.
-
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) I think Crawford ends up making the most sense for the Dodgers to trade. And if they take Danks + add a good chunk of $ for Crawford's 2017 salary and I think it would still be a good deal for us. Kemp would obviously be nice, but the $ and risk just probably isn't worth it. i am at work but didn't crawford had 26 stolen bases last yr???
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) I guess from this we can surmise that Rodon and Anderson are the only top 100 guys according to BA. I haven't heard enough love about Spencer Adams to think he would make the backend of any top 100 lists. to tell you the truth, i have high hopes for him. can be #3 sp at best #2. the sox lucked out with him. even if the sox missed out on several players who were targeted at the 2nd rd. but montas should be higher.

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 09:51 PM) Donnie Veal now too. i am waiting for the pen pitchers in the mets org.
