QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) He still is Hahn's boss. I think he is trying to be Theo and have Hahn be Jed. then who is Ellie May

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) I doubt it was nerves - final outing in a fall league, after doing very well until then? Nothing to be nervous about. More likely just had an off day, or maybe lost focus a bit. all too true, but man as I was saying, the future is looking great. 1 thing Scott Snodgress and Smith, do you think they can contribute in the majors???

I was reading on Yoan in mlb rumors. it quoted a gm as saying he is looking for a 30-40 million dollar deal. with the penalty that amount will incur, it will be 100% penalty. so taking the low dollar amount of 30 mil + 30 mil for the penalty ahhh no freaking way.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 07:30 AM) IMO, Andrus is not currently worth 15M per year but if he maintains his current production offensively/ defensively it won't be long before he is worth it. The FA market raises the pay scale every year. If Andrews could hit for .270-.280 average, hit 35+ 2B, steal 30+ bags and continue to play good defense, he's not only worth it but the Sox would be lucky to have him. At first I thought the idea was kinda crazy but after thinking about it, its really not that crazy at all. The Sox trade Alexei for a starting pitcher, replace Alexei with Andrus for the next 8 years, Danks will be gone creating a hole for Rodon to slide into. The Sox trade 24M+ in 2015 salary ( Alexei/ Danks) and take on 15M with Andrus which saves the Sox 9M but that does not include the salary of the pitcher Alexei is traded for. If its a guy like Montero from the Mets, he would cost 500k+ which brings the Sox saving to 8.4M+. I don't know how realistic any of this is, but its the kind of creativity the Sox might need to go along with a few FA signings. I would like ask a little question, what should the sox do with Anderson???

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 04:48 AM) I agree that Montas should go on because someone would use him as a bullpen piece in my opinion. But, I think there is no way someone picks up Rondon. too much of a gamble.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 05:14 AM) Hochevar will be around $5 million, maybe two years $8.5-9 million. Or one of those options for 2016 based on appearances, like $5 million, then $7 million in 2016 with 65-70+ appearances, something attainable. perfect idea

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 06:35 AM) Because most teams have season ticket (guaranteed attendance) in the 8-22,000 range, with some quite a bit higher than the high teens/low 20's. That's already pre-ticket revenue for the entire season before they even open up the gates. If you go back over the last five seasons or so, you'll see that a significant walk-up attendance the day of the game is around 4-6,000 tickets (not counting other single game tickets sold). It might be 75/25 (season ticket to individual/day-of-game), but I'm willing to wager that's pretty close to the breakdown for revenues from ticket sales. I believe, but I may be wrong here, the revenue that the sox brass talks about is what is seen, fans in the seat. that is why when you hear JR or Hahn or KW talking about support, they are talking about tickets sold, fans in the seats, ticket holders. I think they will never dare to expose their true revenue, corp sponsorship, commercial deal, tv deal etc... the true hidden revenue.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 05:19 AM) He was one of the most consistent players you're going to find for 6 years straight putting up a wRC+ between 120 to 134. Last year he had a bad April, a good May, a bad June, and then after that he only started 22 games the rest of the season because of their logjam. You can't be sure if any player is going to return to form, but he's definitely had a consistent track record. If you ask me who's going to have the best year next year (given that they get regular playing time) between Ethier, Crawford, Markakis, Melky, Morse, Rasmus, Aoki, and Travis Snider, Melky might be my top bet, and Ethier would be 2nd. 100% agree. and I would add Crawford as #3 in having a good yr.

QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 04:53 AM) Will see what comes up. in all reality, drives me nuts all the Here-says of Scherzer, V-mart, Smardzija, Panda, Andrew Miller etc. EVERY year we hear of sox with the famous words "SHOWING INTEREST in some of the big boys... but trigger doesn't get pulled. Instead wind up taking the washed up leftovers or Others OUT OF THEIR PRIME in hoping they have a bounce back year. It still goes back to the year that KW was talking of REALLY doing something special of getting 3 players............ Turns out Tigers got Cabrera, Hunter and I forgot who the third player was that signed somewhere else. I can see the same happening this year. All the talk from Hahn and others about being AGGRESSIVE in the off season. Sox pockets cannot and will not compete with the big boys pockets except in the trade/sign rumor mill. will we get good players? probably. Top Notch ones that are proven to be clutch when so many others are pursuing them? probably not. except for Abreu....our history shows otherwise. So I think we can put te pipedreams away of Panda. Miller, Scherzer, Smardzjiza, etc. in most cases I would be 1 of the first to mention what you wrote. but this yr, I think it is going to be different. today is the fourth day of activity, there is still lots of time left.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 03:49 AM) The biggest problem is that most of those RH bats aren't full-time outfielders and are more DH's...Torii Hunter, Michael Morse, Nelson Cruz, Billy Butler, etc. We can't be sure about Yasmani Tomas, other than that the White Sox aren't going to risk $100 million for an unproven RH corner outfielder who's more Viciedo than Puig/Cespedes/Moncada/R.Castillo. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/282360051.html If you go defense first for the outfield, then you have Rasmus, Rios...with arguments about Aoki and Denorfia. Not a pretty picture. I was reading something yesterday of Howard 1b of Phillies, and Phillies attempt to trade him. it mention that the Phillies will throw in a huge chuck of change to make it happen. of course they need to supply a prospect with that order. 2 question, is Howard shoulder that bad and would he be a nice pickup for the sox.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:54 AM) Vmart really liked the idea of playing In Chicago and with abreu but yea would have taken at least 19mil from the sox and I agree, they need a big time bat to go behind abreu even someone like melky but not Lind or butler etc. but hey maybe Hahn surprises us with a trade. The wait is killing me lol nice post and yeah the wait is killing me as well.

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) I would take just Syndergaard straight up for Alexei. He was the #11 ranked prospect in all of baseball according to BP last season. That's a ranking better than Rodon will likely get coming in to 2015, and I don't know how many of you would trade 6 years of Rodon for 2 years of Alexei, and then talk about adding ANOTHER prospect on top of Rodon, and I'm not sure a single poster here would take that. Now the Mets do have more young pitchers than the Sox, so they could afford to lose Syndergaard and still have nice young arms, but I think to expect Syndergaard PLUS another guy is highly unlikely. when looking at the possible trade between sox and mets, I purposely avoided Synergaard b/c he is the mets #1 prospect. a potential of a #1 at a very young age. I will still try to extract a 2 player like a Reynolds or Taylor. just maybe. -

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 05:34 AM) Sorry if this is dumb/been discussed already, but should we worry about trading alexei and viciedo and the effect it'd have on abreu? Just wondering because the whole Cuban thing and him mentioning when he won Roy how having both has really helped him, etc (with him having the opt out etc) last yr, I was always arguing against it, this yr, after all that Jose achieve, a yr of getting used to America etc..... I don't think it will affect him as much as last yr. still that is a main reason to wait for a knock out price. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 05:34 AM) Went on the Yankees board to see what they would offer for Alexei, one poster suggested JR Murphy and Shane Greene for Alexei. What do you guys think? for me, not enuf -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:35 AM) There's no way the Mets are going to sign Hanley to play SS, not with Wright at 3B. Of course, Wright's also been on the decline, but I don't think Ramirez is an everyday SS, period. And getting him with the assumption Wright will be injured is a bit much, because then you're blocking Wright when he returns. As long as A. Cabrera, Lowrie and Drew are out there....maybe Marco Scutaro if he's healthy...the Mets aren't going to be forced to do something, not like the Yankees who have to make a big splash. And the Dodgers can always use Dee Gordon there (not to mention the two Cuban middle infielders they signed for a bit of coin). the mets need a SS for 1 or 2 yrs they have a really good one developing in the minors. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:29 AM) Players that I think will be out righted off the 40 man: Ronald Belisario Raul Fernandez Jared Mitchell for some reason the sox still think they have some value, Mitchell and Thompson.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:26 AM) The best fall-back option for a one year (or one year and an option) "placeholder" that provides upside (but could easily blow up) is Colby Rasmus in terms of LH bats. Cabrera will probably be too expensive, and the PEDs history and "contract year" offensive salary drive has to be another concern. If they miss on all their targets, they can STILL combine Rasmus, a Saunders/Viciedo trade, Eaton and Garcia and not blow their budget up before 2016. Then a Brett Anderson, Masterson or Volquez (one year and option/s) for the rotation and adding to the bullpen (Romo or Janssen) and you're at least at .500 and one more offseason away, with a decent chance of competing in 2015. that is the word I am saying options.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:29 AM) Or you can easily see Montas getting pushed late in the season (ala Jenks in 2005) if the White Sox are within 5 games of first place around the All-Star break. Who nows, maybe Sanburn or Webb will figure things out in the meantime. There's also Guerra, who would have to be considered a better bet at closer than Putnam, who has 7th-8th inning set-up guy written all over him. I totally forgot about Sanburn. ref Montas, I would really like him to continue his development. if the sox make the playoff, and the roster expand, then hell yes, bring him up for that possibility.
-
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:26 AM) Putnam isn't a future closer in my eyes..good but not great stuff. Petricka? Ehh, i don't know honestly. Maybe. Having Petricka and Miller at the back of the bullpen would be pretty damn good though. That I do know. for s***e and grins, I looked up the sox 2005 roster. sox had 3 closer on that team. so that is why I am saying a couple of good pickups may do the job. if the sox do not want to go for the closer route.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:25 AM) Next Thursday is the deadline to protect players from the Rule V draft. Who is eligible to be had in the Rule V draft for the Sox and who do you guys think will be protected? Sox current 40 man roster is at 36 right now. imo I can see that drop to 34 depending on how the sox brass feel about some prospect. i am looking at some pitchers i am intrigue by.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:20 AM) In all fairness, that's a pretty decent description of the 3/4/5 spots in the current White Sox rotation, at least #5. Obviously Rodon's expected to change that, but Noesi's no more a sure thing than Meyer or May with the Twins. there will be options that will show up. Rome was not built in a Day.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:17 AM) So anyway, he got a 4th year which I suspected would be the case all along. Knew the Sox chances of getting him were slim . So on to the signings of Melky (VMart-lite with defense) , Colby w/e relievers we end up with and stabs in the dark at finding another quality starter or bargain basement hope and a prayer starter. Might even get Butler and Aoki . Oh joy. I am glad you brought up the little out in Jose A contract. part of me thinks that other reason for the sox to have success is to make front end money to extend Jose A contract. with that the smoke has the clear form the field to decide what to do next. I am sure there are still some major trades that hasn't been finalize.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:10 AM) That's not quite true is it ? After 2017 he can elect arbritration right ? So if he does that his salary can explode. that is why I am saying the sox clock is ticking.
