QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) I don't think there are many guys in baseball who have the lines of communication Kenny has with other teams. Hahn may be the guy who says he wants Adam Eaton or gets the big picture on Jose Abreu from scouts, bubut Kenny is ultimately facilitating those deals. That's at least the way I see it. i totally agree with you, that was why i wrote the KW should be there to observed what he see in Yoan. i alway question KW ability to recognize talent, however after he saw Jose and talking to JR, told him to go for it. i am now looking on KW in a better light, now i trust his opinion.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) If Andrew Friedman is half as good as his hype, I don't see how the White Sox get useful parts for next to nothing. especially if he going to make a trade. he is going to be very tough. to show he is not a push over to be taken advantage of. the problem is, he has no leverage to play hard ball. he has 3 outfielders contracts that is like an anchor around the dodgers neck. he has 2 prospect that should be starting. if he is going to play hard ball, then the dodgers should be prepare to buy out some contracts.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) Well, that's too bad, because the best fit may be Ethier. He is a left handed bat that could hit behind Abreu. He's not the hitter I had hoped for, but he would do vs. RH pitching. However, if he thinks that he's going to face LH pitching on the Sox, he can go ahead and pout. He is not a viable option against LH pitching. He could work, platooned with Semien or even Shuck, who hits lefties, even though he is left handed, himself. However, Ethier is not an every day player, especially hitting behind Abreu. if he faces lefties, he should be batting way down at the bottom of the order. Get the Dodgers to kick in some money, and tell Ethier to shut up and play when and where he's told. Geez, I hate these modern day prima donnas!! man you would be a tough coach.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 07:10 AM) I think the best the Sox could hope for is JR Murphy or a prospect of equal value. I cannot say it enough, Alexei does not have the value people would like to think he has. Put it this way. If I were looking for a SS, I would not be willing to give up too much for Alexei for reasons I've already listed in this thread. Honestly, I'm not so sure I'd give up Greene for Alexei straight up. you may be right but I don't agree. Murphy is a young prospects, is he rated no, is there a chance he will not make a productive career, yes. yet is this a fair compensation for a AS SS, good glove, nice real nice bat and cost control for 2 yrs with an option of a third. teams play a lot for players who are in the final yr of there contract to help the team out. Alexei will most assuredly be helping the yank while the yanks find a replacement.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 06:55 AM) The Mets have strong top line prospects and the Yankees have better prospects in the lower levels. I respect your answer, I disagree with it, but I will discuss this on another time. sorry. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 07:48 AM) Here's the link to what I was talking about with video. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/investigati...14/#more-158004 nice find, nice article. the sox had a great catcher in Jim Essian. he had a rep of arguing with the ump but he never turn around nor would he take his mask off. no one knew he was arguing with the ump but the batter, pitcher and later the tv crew. the announcer said he was not trying to show up the umps. he would constantly berate the ump b/c he would tell them they missed the call strike. he would keep the glove there for the ump to really look at the framing. Jim Essian got kick out of 1 game b/c he was calling the ump an idiot b/c he can't see the ball when it was a strike. this was all relayed thru the batter whom the reporter. now Hawk have said that Jim Essian was great in framing, left the glove there for the ump to see. he left it a lot longer if the ump missed the call while Jim Eddian argued about it. JE also cheated the glove a little when the ball was a little outside, up or down, by moving the glove quickly over the strike zone. Hawk also said that by doing this, he helped the pitchers get strike when it should have been a ball. I love it then when Hawk and Wimpy would explained all this. it was like a edu on baseball. all the old time catchers esp the great ones had this way to help out the pitchers. it was funny when I remember a catcher getting again kickout b/c the catcher thought he was squeezing the strike zone. he did it on purpose b/c the ump will then make a effort to widen the zone. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 06:31 AM) One thing we have been noticing with Hahn is that he prefers ground ball pitchers which is great when you play in the cell. However what hasn't been adressed is a catcher who can help those kind of pitchers out. I saw something on fangraphs where they were talking about the most pitches missed by an umpire that were in the strike zone but called balls. The ump might 've been Cederstrom but it was Carroll pitching and Nieto catching and the pitches missed by the ump were all really nice pitches with downward movement which Nieto didn't handle very well. Maybe Flowers would've got a few of those calls but I really think a defensive catcher who can handle pitchers with sink is a must wether its the backup catcher or the starter. Maybe that's a good pitch framer or a guy who gets down low so he doesn't have to stab at the pitches with a downward motion . As much as I think Gillaspie has improved and may continue to improve I'm coming around to the idea of Headley because of his glove and the importance of as many good infield gloves a possible to help the pitchers. If Hahns going to continue to get groundball pitchers then he also must remember that those types are even better when they get great defense behind them and catching them. nice point. I was reading this afternoon on prospects and how coaches are looking at catchers with a keener eye. it is funny you mention catchers who are better defensively, b/c this article stated that the first thing all the coaches are looking, on how they block a pitch and handle the defensive aspect of the game. trying to get these kids better prepared for their time when they get drafted. -

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 04:55 AM) No thanks to a Yankees trade. Mets need to be the team over the Yanks. I don't like the Yankees prospects. I think the yanks have a better group of prospects, or should I say a deeper pool of prospects. -
I was reading an update on Yoan, he was given permission to leave and pursue baseball and he can come back at will to Cuba. I find that a little nerving and isn't it against the rules. wasn't there a player who was force to go back to Cuba b/c of something like that. I know he had a fake passport and all. still the MLB made the country send him back, b/c he could always go back. there is that 1 ball player, how bout the couple who are playing in Asia, if they get the same kind of situation that Yoan is getting, then why can't they play in the usa.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 03:37 AM) Another reason that there's some concern about the White Sox not spending a lot of money this offseason is that idea we HAVE to find a LH bat and that's at the exclusion of players like Tomas or Moncada who could "blow up the budget." the white sox will spend, they will spend to make this team better. getting a lh bat, while it would help, is not that much of an urgency compare to some other holes.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 03:08 AM) Alright, I'm buying into the Alexei for Greene rumor. NY needs a SS and the Sox could use a young, cost controlled ground ball, right handed pitcher like Greene. It just makes sense. Call me crazy but 6 years of team control over a pitcher like that sounds pretty damn good to me, sign me up. ny has to include more to the deal.

the signing of free agents that came and past and the plain in-activity can be nerve wrenching. however some has to remember there are teams with contracts that they can not get rid of, b/c teams rush in to these contracts. the sox contract, Danks was b/c of a injury so I am not counting that here. sox are slow in signing who we thought they should. maybe it was a good deal, maybe it wasn't, maybe it was not part of the team plans. I rather have to sox error on the side of caution than not. as long as they make improvements, hopefully major additions. there is a lot of time left.

QUOTE (lord chas @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 12:05 AM) What a stud Abreu will be for years. Too bad media types like Kaplan and Haugh have Theo's wang in their mouths and are too busy to acknowledge there is already a superstar in Chicago I really don't want to visualize that, but very well put and that is the truth.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) Technically we never worked out Iguchi either. Lot more money hear but maybe the Sox layed low and already had a lot of info from when they scouted Abreu or maybe KW or Hahn went all Jerry Krause and wore costumes and were actually in attendance at workouts. Heck, maybe they had a workout with Tomas and it was never reported. Again, not saying that is the case, but it happens more then we think where a team or two have interactions with players that weren't reported until after the guy ends up signing with said team. I'd put odds low but I wouldn't put it past an organization with Kenny as the president. unless Jose A is singing his praises and tell sox brass to sign him. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) I'm hearing there are at least 23 teams that would love to sign him but are very not unlikely to be not be involved.. if he is still going to meet some teams, the baseball world may not hear nothing for what, several days. SDP dropped out.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) I say go for it. There is not often talent of this level available on the open market, this is not some 16 year old kid, this would be like signing Nick Gordon from last years draft as a FA, except a better prospect. The Sox can just use their international money to sign 30 kids at $300 K, as the whole LA thing is kind of a crap shoot anyway. 1 last question to what you answer. isn't next yr int'l draft suppose to be better than last yr ????

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 09:21 PM) I doubt very seriously the sox sign Tomas. I am curious who he signs with. Most rumors have him tabbed for Philly which sounds about right. I doubt the Padres level of interest since Tomas has to play the field in the NL and then consider playing in the big spacious outfields in the NLW, yikes. Considering Tomas is speculated to get 12-15M annually, I'll tank Viciedo and his 4M thank you. but the sox did not sign any big time fa's, so they have money to spend.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) Last and only few times I heard the white sox connection with him was supposedly abreu trying to sell him to hahn. Other then that nothing on being at or holding work outs for him. If I were the JR, I would have sent KW, Hahn and Jose A and family down there.

I wonder if the Sox could get JR Murphy along with Greene? for me I am looking outside the box beside the name that someone posted I would like Jose A. Ramirez (he is really close to the majors and a nice arm) and 1 of there int'l signee Antonio Arias or Juan Deleon -

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) I think that 2015, like the second half of 2013 and the entirety of 2014 is all about collecting assets, and that 2016 is going to be the year where the team starts competing again. I think that the Sox should be around .500 next year, and that they should be trying to acquire as much talent as possible because there are still some holes on the team and the Royals and the Tigers arent going anywhere. If the Sox have to endure a slow first few months of the season because Syndergaard needed time in the minors, then I am all for it because the team is going to be better in the long run. this is all fantasy, and I love this kind of talk. I do think the sox will make a push to acquire the necessary players to make a run at the playoff. whomever the sox get via trade, if they do trade, we will know then what that players profile is. until them I will continue to bite my nails and pray to the baseball gods for some great additions to the club. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Sure they will... On Xbox, play station, nes, genesis, Atari 2600, colecovision, commodore 64 and intellivision. You just have to " wait til next year". nice.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 07:38 PM) I watched video of Greene last night on mlb.com and noticed he does miss location a bit more than a starter should. Kid has a nice two-seam he throws 93/94 with downward movement, a nice little slider that fooled batters and thought I had seen a few cutters as well. I would gladly take Greene but the Yanks should send another player with him in a trade for Alexei. Any chance the Sox could get the Yanks to bite on John Danks. I think the yanks will need to add 2 more prospect. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 07:15 PM) So he's lower than most of us on Ravelo and Micah, and VERY low on Bassitt. Numbered summary: 1. Rodon 2. Anderson 3. Montas 4. Adams 5. Danish BREAK 6. Michaelczewski 7. Johnson 8. Hawkins 9. Adolfo 10. Thompson 11. Davidson 12. May BREAK 13. Sanchez 14. Sanburn 15. Beck 16. Barnum 17. Ravelo 18. Snodgress 19. Fry 20. Saladino 21. Engel 22. Trexler Notable Mentions: Basto, Wilkins, Rondon, Austin, Bassitt, Nieto thanks for putting all that info in this top 22 order. I was surprise at several players ranking. I know this is all subjective to the individual, but what the hell. I think Adams is maybe at least 2 spots higher, Thompson and Davidson are 2-3 higher than should be, Bassitt imo should be in the top 10. those are for starters. however I do like the write up and at least gives me a different opinion of how the pro's are ranking them. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) I think the only thing they could do is limit the Sox ability to make a QO, and on an amateur deal I am not sure they even have the ability to do that, I believe the rest is governed by the CBA. On a ML deal they can get pretty creative. there has to be a loop hole. someone just hasn't found it. if it is posted for this yr, I still say pass. what are the posters opinions?
