in my quest not to make unnecessary thread, I will recycle this one. I saw this article and saw a surprise in the list. enjoy. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2230749...-5-years/page/9

with John Axford getting dfa, would any oppose the sox getting him. I think he would be a nice pickup. from his scouting rpt. 96–98 MPH, but can reach as high as 100 MPH

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 25, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) LOL at that pitch Montas threw at 2:07 to that poor guy. Looked like 140 mph. he has a kind of weird kicking action.

2014 Draft Report Card from Baseball America
LDF replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
I was doing my usual reading about the sox drafted players and the rookie league stats. 2 names came to my attention, beside the poplar names. ~ 1. Louie Lechich ~ 2. Mason Robbins they both seems to have nice hit tools. -
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 25, 2014 -> 01:34 AM) That is the conventional "wisdom." I know I've seen a lot of tall skinny guys, fat guys, all body-types with arm/elbow/shoulder problems. Has anyone ever done a legitimate study of injury history and shown smaller pitchers get injured more? or better yet, a study on how many more injuries or surgeries for pitcher than before.

2014 Draft Report Card from Baseball America
LDF replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 10:51 PM) First on the bolded... no. He was just drafted in 2014, this was his age 23 season. You don't write off a guy with the tools he apparently has at age 24, whether he's in A, A+ or AA. That would be ridiculous. Yes he's old for level, but that just means you challenge him level-wise a little more next year, maybe split time A and A+. Then the next year at 25 can be AA & AAA, for example, which is fine. Second on Great Falls, remember that the team generally sends the older, college-grad guys up there (though not always), and also that it is a hitter-friendly league. So hitters can put up some big numbers, but that doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. You'll know a lot more about those guys when they hit A ball. I would like to think that Trexler still has a chance. maybe it the rooting for the underdog thing in me. look at Carroll and his age. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...tching/2014/ALL the team stat http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...bp&cid=1997 -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 10:51 PM) I think you are really underrating Jason Heyward. He's a good all around player who has the ability and talent to be a great all around player, like possibly a guy who gets a few MVP votes from time to time. I will be honest with you, I don't know if it is underrating but maybe its more of overrating our prospect. the other things is, everything I read, he wants to go the FA rt. but the trade can be made if ATL allows the sox to try to sign him to a contract.
-
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 10:24 PM) We are talking about 3 guys, 2 of which may never make any contributions in the ML. If Heyward is indeed traded, the offer might actually be better than that. if they are willing to send these 3 prospects, why not offer it to someone else.
-
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 10:12 PM) Let's see, would I trade Carlos Sanchez for Heyward? You got it. What about Matt Davidson? Sign me up! You want Courtney Hawkins too? Ok, no problem. You want all 3 for Heyward? Done deal! ok, but talk about over paying ...... jeeze for 1 yr.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) I wonder if a team was willing to take on Ryan Howard, if the Phillies would be willing to give away Cliff Lee with him, and include another real piece. I would imagine that 2 of there starting pitchers may be on that list.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) Yeah, had they signed him to my hypothesized 6/$120 with an opt out after 4, I'd still be happy even after the elbow issues. It's amazing what one more year and $35 million more will do to change your perception of the situation. I hate to say this, but I wouldn't be too confident that he won't have elbow problem next yr. the risk is too much. I hope I am wrong, surgery is not cool for players, even if it is an opposing team.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) This could be something interesting for the Sox. Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 3h3 hours ago The Phillies have signaled to some corners of the market that they're going to be ready to deal veterans this winter, and eat money to do it. so, here is the question for all. which veteran player does Philly want to get rid of that they will eat some contract. R. Howard, and who else. D. Brown. any opinions.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) Anderson is untouchable for all but the most premier of players with service control available. Heyward does not have that on his side. I like Heyward and would give up a lot for the Sox to get him, but if they ask for Anderson, the answer is a quick, flat no. I don't know, for 1 yr of service. I just don't know.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) 1 year of service. thanks for the correction.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 01:21 PM) It makes no sense for Ohtani to be available to MLB teams for something like 4-5 years. Let's cross that bridge when we get there. I always thought that to be the case, however several other articles about him has given the little snippet. he wants to be posted and not wait for the normal yrs or waiting.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 03:44 AM) So I asked about this list of players earlier as far as what they could get for a return if packaged: Conor Gillaspie Dayan Viciedo Carlos Sanchez Micah Johnson Chris Bassitt Tyler Danish Chris Beck Francellis Montas And this discussion of these Braves players is an example of why. Could any group of players off that list net the return people are looking for? Or perhaps an interesting group of players from the Reds? as in my other response to your post, who will be the trading partner.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) Apparently Torotno is close to or even above their spending limit with the big contracts they already have and would like to try keeping Melky on top of that, so if you're a team looking for a DH and able to take on salary there's at least a tentative fit. However, they're only going to be looking for pre-arb pieces in return. I totally agree with you, not only Tor but Sea as well. what will they want or look for in any trade.

re: Heyward, you know, this might be a good trade. not only will he be good in the lineup, but if necessary can leadoff if Eaton gets hurt. The problem I have is the cost of the trade and it appears as he will go the free agent route. second, as I mention in the previous sentence ATL is a very smart, and a difficult trading partner. yeah the sox have a good beginning of a nice minor league prospects, but would you be willing to let Anderson go in the trade?

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 02:15 AM) EVERY ONE GO ON THEIR COMPUTER & LOOK UP SHOHEI OHTANI http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shohei_Ohtani http://youtu.be/9utx2BPIYlU He wants to come over to the states soon and the Sox need to jump all over him. UPDATE a nice article on Shohei Ohtani http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...1-mph-fastball/ he still wants to get posted so he can come to USA.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 23, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) Jose's out clause is different from some in that it does not allow him to become a free agent. To qualify as a free agent you need 6 years of MLB service time. If Jose opts out after 3 years he would not have enough service time to qualify as a free agent. Therefore, the White Sox could hold onto him simply by offering him arbitration. If this happened repeatedly and the Sox went to arbitration with him, it'd probably be worth an additional $20-$30 million for him over the lifetime of the contract if he continued performing at this level, but doing that opt out would also carry risks in that he'd switch from $36 million guaranteed remaining on the contract to being on 1 year deals. If he hits like this he'll do that, but it's not by any means an easy decision. That is not made clear in that article and the only place it's implied is in Hahn's quote. The White Sox control Jose Abreu through the end of the 2019 season. That's what you need to focus on right now, the exact math isn't all that important from this point in 2014. dang it.... I read the same article and for the life on me, I couldn't come up with all you said. Thanks for the info.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) This should be the end of that idea right here. I don't know, JR likes to play by the rules.
