QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) The Sox will take him back if he is best value available among all the options. It will be purely a business decision. the best value available is kind of subjective. what will be the best case in point of best value?

for lack of anything else, I read this whole thread. I haven't bothered before now. the one interesting thing that popped into my mind was the blackhawks coaching situation. the hawks were doing everything to groom Denny to be the head coach but when Q became available, the hawks went a 180 degrees and hired him. history was then made. doesn't it seem the situation is ripe for a repeat with the sox and Robin?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) I like your point but I disagree with the analogy. The checkbook is the single most important thing to American business would the "rtn in the investment" be the same as checkbook?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) I remember hearing a lot of talk int he 3/$36 range from us, so when he got a deal worth 2x that total amount they said he should take it if he wanted the money. Worth noting that if he hadn't left Chicago, he'd have had full no trade protection due to being a 10/5 player, so just by bringing the other offer back it was clear he was leaving for that money. yeah you are right. here is an interesting question. I know some of the fans wants him back. do you think the sox will take him back when there are other options maybe even options with a lower salary.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 10:25 PM) I didn't think the Sox actually offered him a contract. They weren't prepared to go to that number of years, etc. They told him to stay close and let the club know but had probably also said this is as much as we can budget given our current rebuilding plans, blah blah blah and we respect you and everything else. and you know what I have to say, you are prob right and I am wrong. ref to the money aspect. several mil a yr plus at least 1 extra yr in salary, yeah it is all about the money. does anyone blame him.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 09:14 PM) 5 IP 2 hits 1 ER 1 BB 3 Ks for Montas. So for our AFL all stars so far that's 26.2 15 hits 4 ER 9 BB 29 Ks....0 HRs that looks good esp if the sox plan to keep him as a starter. can't wait to see the splits for Bassitt.

QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) Just my opinion, but I think they would leave them in the AL East. They would be natural rivals with Toronto, who could use a bolt of energy in their fan base since its been 20+ years since they've been to the post-season. Not to mention Montreal being a hockey town, Habs fans don't like the Rangers, and they really don't like the Bruins. So that could carry over to baseball and be huge rivals with the Yankees, and Red Sox. wasn't there a study made about vegas on whether or not they can field a team. this was something like 3 yrs or so. something also about 2 wks ago. dang it I can't remember the whole details.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) When he was reviewing the terms sheet submitted by the Marlins, he and his scout should have seen that trade coming. Those figures scream "trade after first season" but he was promised that the team would not trade him. he wanted a no trade clause. If I remember right, the sox was offering something like a 1 to 1+ mil less in the salary with a no trade clause.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) Drama is neverending in life. At my current gig I'm a temp. The president of the company is busting my balls about the hours I work. It's weird because no overtime is involved but for some reason he seems hellbent that I'm not working the hours I put down. So I told him that he is more than welcome to fill out my timecard and submit it but he refused to do so. The guys sounds bat s*** crazy. I do my job, keep to myself, and ask questions to make sure I'm doing my job properly. I hate to bring the race card into this but I can't really figure out what other reasons he has to be complaining. The guy brought me into my office today and said my hours are pure Stephen King fiction. I don't mind constructive criticism to improve my skills for the job but he's basically calling me a liar and I don't take to kindly to that. you are at a loose, loose situation. there will be a time that you have to cut your losses. this is pure and simple harassment. I did 18 yrs in civil rights, of those I did 3 yr in dc for redoing the women rights at the work force in the late 80's -91. you are a temp with somewhat no recourse. this is against the president and there should only be 1 higher level above him and that is the owner. so here is rhetorical question, who can you complain too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) He is going to play himself on to the trade block very quickly. We all have seen that if you end up in Q's doghouse, you end up in another town. if you are referring to Bickell, highly doubt it. who will want him and his 4 mil a yr contract. what gets me is he made this announcement on how he is going to hit and yet it didn't go beyond 1 game. pay the penalty and ship him to the minors.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) Sounds like Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing Doctor Strange. I really like that casting. now its like I have an excuse to go and see the movie.

holy freaking cow, I just saw a pict on cbs sports of him standing next to Kane. I had to look at darling profile. he is 6'6. well either way, I hawks won. so much for Bickell 5 hits a game. that lasted ..... lets see..... 1 game.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) Lot of crazy trade proposals in this thread - not sure why any of those teams would want to trade any of those players. while that is true, that is the beauty of a sports forum, to talk, argue, come up with some outlandish trades ideas. in other word Monday morning quarterbacking the team as the GM. it is all harmless and fun. you should hear some of my trade ideas, but I really don't want to get banned. for calling those who respond in the negative freaking idiots.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 10:48 PM) Zimmerman is supposedly only going to physically be able to play 1B. Thus the speculation. They may not want to risk picking up the option because another team may not want to pay him that much, let alone give up something worthwhile while taking on the money. I do think he would be someone for Hahn to consider if he is turned loose yeah I was thinking about that, however if the nats did pick up the option, not too many teams will want a 35 yr old player with a 15 mil salary and plus they would have to give up prospect. not a good gamble.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 02:57 AM) What's more important, the hand a starter throws with or getting hitters out? Buehrle put up a 3.39 ERA in a tough ALE division last season but hey, f*** that idea, better to sign Peavy or Masterson because they are right handed... I would gladly take Buerhle back depending on the cost and I can give a toss if the Sox ended up with four or even five lefties as long as they can get outs. the sox wants pitchers or better yet, mlb players. if it is in the sox interest to get Buehrle, they would and I would welcome it. only if Tor sweeten the deal. the sox accept the whole Buehrle salary and plus prospect for a player who may not be in the sox future. Tor need salary cap room, however they will have 87+ mil on the books. subtract Buehrle 19 mil that will put tor at 67 + mil. that is what I am hoping would entice tor to make this trade.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 07:26 PM) Funny this was posted on MLB Trade Rumors today... I know. I was referring to the Tor doing the trade. oh hell. forget it.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) It's pretty obvious and will likey be posted here 15 times... We've already got 3 LHSP, after Rodon... Four. Hence, Mark really can't have a place with us. Your solution seems to be swapping Danks for him but why on Gods green earth would Authopthos do that? Agreed. jeeze I can't I am in agreement.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) 1- I think its likely Danks opens the season with the Sox. If he pitches well and the Sox are contenders, fans just might be glad the Sox have him. 2- I think DV's 20+ HR power will make some team take a chance although the return won't be out of this world. I really don't think it will be difficult to move DV. 3/4/5- Agreed. Peavy and Masterson in the same rotation scares me. Peavy's numbers in the AL were on par with Danks and Noesi actually out performed both Peavy and Masterson so dare I say a rotation with Peavy and Masterson is worse than Noesi and Danks... Peavy is regressing and likely signs with an NL team ( calling it now, SDP) and Masterson is a gamble. If the Sox insist on having two right handers in the rotation, I'd rather they took a chance with Noesi and Bassitt over Peavy and Masterson. Cespedes- I'd say no. He likely wants to hit FA and maximize his contract. Rather take a chance on LaRoche but there's no way I'd want Cespedes playing LF for the Sox. Cespedes just isn't a fit for the Sox. about Cespedes, I just don't know if a max contract is the motivating factor. (it is a gut feeling) LaRoche is my favorite for the sox, only if the nats do not pick up his option.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) Never fear, Scott Darling is here to save the day can't hurt. interesting quote > Bickell on 5 hits a game.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) You've added $41 million, because we can't dump Danks without taking another bad contract in return. We still wouldn't have enough lh power...and we are not going to waste that much money on a fourth outfielder. If anything viciedo would be replaced by Garcia with aoki in rf. Depending on Davidson is pretty illogical...as is overpaying butler who still doesn't solve the dh problem other than just hoping. Peavy won't sign that low and masterson only one year at that salary...finally getting an elite closer is going to cost $12-15 million not a mere $9 unless you hire the same guys from the royals who scouted hochevar crow soria Collins Herrera Finnegan Davis and holland. ~~~ edit #2 ~~~~~ here is the problem I am having with all these ideas. 1. if the sox were not able to trade Danks and his 15 mil a yr, at last yr trade deadline. so who will want to for trade him? 2. DV, same as Danks. who will take him and his lousy batting stats let alone his "D". 3. there will be other teams making the same pitch to players probably the same reason. 4. there are options on some players that if not pick up, the sox may be interested in. 5. there is a lot of "what if" and over estimations on players making a rebound and I am very guilty of this. however a investment in 1 may still happen. not a slew of them. caulfield12 this is not a reflection again you, but it was your post. as much as I want to sox to succeed. what is killing me is the waiting for the WS to end. so the all the action to start, like the domino chips that are starting to fall. I am sorry for this lousy written post. no excuse except being tired.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) I hope Rick and Kenny see the article. for some reason I find my self laughing, but for the life of me, I do not know why. I must be tired. but its kool.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) Anyone have certain horror movies that they watch every year around this time? I am gonna rent Trick or Treat this week, I have read it is pretty twisted for me it is the Exorcist. I still think that is the best of the horror movies.

well today is sunday and the hawks have lost 2 games. I guess I overrated Raanta ability to hold down the #1 spot as goalie. I guess I can put the blame on other players on the team, but the bottom line it fall on the goalie.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) Would you guys be interested in Cespedes if he can sign an extension? Olney tweeted that he thinks they'll trade him now because he switched agents. Again, I know he's not a lefty bat, but its something to consider because I think I'd sign Adam LaRoche to a 2 year deal too. I would welcome Cespedes easily. Ref Adam LaRoche, I will look to see if the Nats tenders him. here is the question, he is a better first baseman defensively, so how does the sox deal with who will man first and the dh.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 26, 2014 -> 06:42 AM) I was really hoping for Bassitt as a starter with what he has to offer given a low to mid 90's FB with movement, a tight slider and a CB that reminds me a alot of Wade Davis' curve, nasty. But if the Sox feel he's better suited as a reliever or don't have the room in the rotation, I'm fine with Bassitt as a reliever but surely prefer him as a starter. I too was hoping for him to be a starter as well. I remember an article stating that Bassitt preferred to be a reliever. no matter what the org or what the fans wants, if he, Bassitt see himself as a reliever. the org doesn't have any choice but to allow what his makeup dictates.
