  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 02:08 AM) They are going to have pressure to go after a starting pitcher, whether it be Shields or someone else. I think the sox has 1 or 2 they can give them Danks and E Johnson.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 02:08 AM) There currently is no international draft. crap, I meant something else..... screw it. I fvck up. either way, thanks for correcting me. I mean it.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 01:57 AM) Tomorrow we find out if Sale finished third in the Cy. either way, he really came into his own and showed many how good of a pitcher he is. made me eat a lot of crow......
  4. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 12:38 AM) Just a guess but maybe the Rockies figure Cuddyer opts for FA in hopes of getting a 2 or 3 year deal so by extending him a QO they secure compensation. or this was Cuddyer way of saying FU for giving me a QO.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 01:53 AM) The Raid 2 is even better action (almost non-stop), although the plot's (and who goes for the story to this type of movie?) more compelling the first time around. In addition, The Book of Life was a lot more fun than I expected...especially if you're at all interested in Mexican/Hispanic culture. Also caught up with How to Train Your Dragon 2, and even though it didn't measure up to the first one, it was still a very good animation movie and I missed out not seeing it in the theatre with IMAX/3D/surround-sound. Finally, has anyone seen The Maze Runner? DVD or watch in a theatre? It just came out last week here in China. It's really weird the way that some movies arrive here (like Into the Storm) just because they're "action" movies, whereas most good dramas/comedies never see the light of day because of cultural differences. Maze runner is a much better book than the movie. the book is way too long and has too many sub stories going. the movie was ok. I really enjoy all the new faces of young actors and actresses.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) We can't ignore the additional cost of forfeiting all international signings for two years as well. This smells like something that's going to be nuts to me. I highly doubt Hahn takes this kind of risk. question int"l signing is being referred to int'l draft right?
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) We can't ignore the additional cost of forfeiting all international signings for two years as well. This smells like something that's going to be nuts to me. I highly doubt Hahn takes this kind of risk. if the sox get a nice all around selections of player / prospects. 2 yrs would not be a bad stagger. let all the sox prospects develop and 2 yrs later start on the next wave of prospect.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) If the money's going to ANY Cuban, it would be better invested in Moncada than Tomas or Rusney Castillo. The problem's that Moncada is the long-term play here, and how willing is JR to open the purse strings for a guy who might not contribute until 2017 (at the earliest) or 2018? As a White Sox fan, if it's an EITHER Moncada or putting $30-40 million into these next two offseasons, then you have to take the "win now" approach even though Moncada has superstar written all over him and the majority of FA acquisitions are LIKELY to be more incremental improvements, barring a major surprise and opening of the purse strings. I'm am a huge fan of Jose Fernandez and thinks he should most definitely be the sox next signing. when ever he comes out from hiding.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 11:40 PM) Which is why I said I'm fully on board with going all in and blowing the category and paying the fines. I just don't like the idea of playing by the rules and going after just 1 player. I think you are better suited spreading your money on a few top 30 guys then just getting the #1 guy. Given how young these guys are, bust rates are high, so I'd rather get more above average talent. My overall preference is to just go all out in years when you can, take the penalty and do the same when you can invest again. what we, as fans says and what the owner wants to do are two totally different things. I would love to spread that idea you have and go for the promising players, then pick the positional players. of course the pitchers as well.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) McEwing has some of the best post HR high fives around, Renteria can't match that. I thought McEwing is gone. I guess I was wrong.
  11. dang it, the O's gave a QO to Cruz. I hope he takes it.
  12. I would absolutely love if the sox would hire Rick Renteria as 3b coach.
  13. can someone clear this up for me. I thought the QO is worth 15.3 mil ???
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) Deadline is 4 pm CST, so a couple minutes left. oooo many thanks.
  15. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 10:52 PM) Some interesting players receiving QO's. 36 year old Michael Cuddyer and Francisco Liriano both received QO's today. Heres the list so far Melky Cabrera LF Michael Cuddyer 1B / RF Francisco Liriano Russell Martin C Victor Martinez 1B / DH Ervin Santana Max Scherzer James Shields does anyone know if Nelson Cruz got one?
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) So what exactly is Danish's ceiling? Because he doesn't throw that hard but he has nasty stuff. it all depends, at least for me, who is not a scout but an avid fan, I need to see the real movement on his pitches. another yr of grooming and more rpts from the prof scouts on what they see. worst case #4-5 or long relief. best case #3. and extremely good case tbd on the scouts rpts.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 03:33 AM) If Montes de Oca was so good, he would of gotten drafted in the first 10 rounds. He's in high school and has had arm issues already. You don't pass on a guy like Rodon because of money issues. he didn't have a chance to show that his arm was ready to start pitching. hence the apprehension of not only drafting him but signing him as well.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) Sort of. It is a combination of him being very good, but also coming off arm surgery and therefore having greater value on the need to prove something first for a bigger payday. That's one of the classic scenarios for a very good prep arm to go to college. Let's put it this way. Because of the fears about his relatively recent surgery, he wasn't going to be a 1st rounder. So maybe he was more like 5th round. For his scenario, there's a potential for a much bigger payout if he goes to OU and rocks the house for a few years, potentially being a 1st rounder. For most teams, knowing he was looking for 1st round money (or close to that anyway), but not willing to take him in the 1st or even 2nd round, they let him go. The White Sox then took him in a late round, essentially as the backup plan for Rodon (and also sending a signal of interest as a side effect). If they had issues with Rodon and/or others, they'd lose the slot money, but have more of the potential past-slot pool money available (remember Rodon was over slot, as were others they drafted) and maybe, maybe, be able to entice De Oca to sign. He was the backup plan. I'm sure they probably made him a token 100k offer just in case he bit, but that's all they could do. So it isn't just because he was so good - it was because he was so good and had extra risk. extremely, very good. you were / are spot on esp as a backup plan for Rodon and his agent. as I said the sox had ear marked 1 mil for signing him if Rodon didn't sign. also there was hope that there would be some money if Rodon agent didn't get greedy.
  19. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) This will be something interesting to watch going forward. JR toed the line when Bud was commissioner as his friend and ally, but with Bud stepping down and some adversity between JR and the new commish already it will be interesting to see if he stays as committed to the spirit of the rules as he did before. with Bud being his friend. I really don't think that was the problem. it was the whole David Wilder debacle. I suspected and was confirmed by some friends that the sox and JR put themselves in a penalty where they didn't look to the south of the border for prospects for a while. think about it, Aroldis Chapman avail and the sox had little to no interest? nah it was self impose penalty to hide, to take it out the public view.
  20. I really hate to say this but whomever sign Sandoval, all we see him gain all that weight he lost back on. health wise, I don't know.
  21. the player I am really waiting for is Jose Fernandez and he would look great in a sox uni. any other signing are secondary to him. this is not to include int'l fa signing.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 04:57 PM) Pretty much everyone would like to be paid like that. If he does, good for him. The reality is he will have to find someone to pay him like that. .306/.373/.475 . Those are his career splits. It seems to me a lot of people have focused on his career year, which he did have. But his career numbers suggest he is far more than a one year, contract year wonder. don't get me wrong, I am not for signing him. I was interested and debated the PED issue with other posters. but not for a salary of what ever he wants and for 4 yrs. that is plain and simple a waste of money. whom ever signed him is paying for last yr stats. can he do it again who knows. is it a gamble I want, no.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) thanks for your hard work in researching all this info.
  24. I see J.B. Shuck as a low investment high reward kind of a player. doesn't hurt. now if Hahn can get a RP that will be floating around the internet soon.
