QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 09:35 PM) Terrible. Thoughts for the soldier who died and first responders. I agree. now for my rant. I can see the hatred that the Islam's has again the USA. USA is soo freaking evil that we even welcome women into the work force and give them the right to vote. but why Canada??? what did Canada do that was so wrong, win the Stanley Cup the most. come on. this stupid craze militant Islam's.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) I agree, but it also gives you two years to come up with an alternative solution as well. If the Sox go after someone like Oscar Taveras this offseason - who is reportedly in Mike Matheny's doghouse - than Anderson would likely need to be included in the deal. In the mean time you can keep Sanchez at AAA playing short and deal for or draft another SS. nah... as much as I like trading players. for me, Anderson is as close to handoff. Same with Montas and Adams. I didn't know about Taveras being in the dog house. what happen. the natural progression of the SS prospects and The Missle is too good to be true with ref to time.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) Right now, Aiken, Matuella, Bickford, are the three college guys and Justin Hooper as a prep are the guys that I would be interested in at this point. I am not a fan of the smaller bodied guys like Allard and Buehler. I think any of those four have the chance to make the majors in the next two years, given their current skill level and ability to throw with velocity. really nice list. I am surprise you didn't mention Walker Buehler. many mock draft like him at the 6-8 pick. for the life of I do not know why? oh my opinion only.

since my direction have change, now I am looking at the prospects in the 1nd that can stay in the minors at the least amount of time. I wonder what are some of your thought on .... Alex Bregman ss, LSU - has always hit in the middle 300 with last yr batting 360. decent power, leadership aplomb. top of order batter. may not steal a great numbers of bases but is really quick.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) Everyone can be terrible next year. No reason to ever spend money in an effort to improve. As Stacey says, if you are scared, buy a dog. Morales with Boras being his agent, probably would opt for a one year deal instead of going really cheap for 2 or 3. ref Kendrys Morales forgetting who is agent is for this discussion, has some nice numbers. forget last yr stats for the past 4-5 yrs, his hit total is way more than his K totals. his Walk totals is 30+ a yr which is close to 1/2 of K totals. his homeruns is 20+ a yrs. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/moralke01.shtml if I remember correctly Brandon McCarthy seem to have been hurt a lot / fragile. while he may have some tools that I like. the sox need a healthy pitcher. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mccarbr01.shtml

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Name me something you've done with good intentions that had good merit and logic behind the decision that backfired that got you into hot water. I am genuinely curious to know. crap...... I was being stupid..... that was the past BS. I too freaking old now. forgive me.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 08:14 PM) It's funny how sports never relate to the real world. That was a good trade. Yet if I do something at work with good intentions and it flops I get fired or yelled at or demoted. Results, baby, results. sports figures in general have always had more wiggle room to get away with things. until recently esp with the football players.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 05:35 PM) Alexei's under contract until he's 34. I wouldn't be surprised if he hung around after that, but it'll be on shorter term deals and maybe not with the white sox. I certainly wouldn't want to be forced to sign Alexei to a multi year deal right after he turns 35 because we didn't have any other SS options. I was excited as crap when I read the article. I was trying to read between the lines and how that reporter was mentioning that IF the sox signed another Cuban this summer, they might think of extending him. something was else mention on how the sox wanted the environment to be really in favor with all players esp the Cubans. disclosure>>>>> I may have embellish the 2nd some of that. I can't exactly remember how that was written.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) Just watched video of Kolby Allard. That's a damn good curve ball for a HS prospect and he hit 94 with the fastball in the video. I wouldn't cry if the Sox grabbed him with the 8th pick. interesting name and interesting tools. there are 2 hs arms that intrigue me, but I am now looking at hitters. oh how I wish the sox had a 1a (comp pick) I really like this yrs draft esp in the hs range. I still think there might be some steal in the lower 1rd.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) I like DJ Stewart as a fast moving LH OF'er with plus power and really good bat to ball skills. Good athlete and the best college bat in the draft. Happ is interesting as well, though he has not player the competition that Stewart has. If the draft board has the big four arms off the board, I want a college bat over one of the Vandy arms or Kirby. so when the sox select #8. and according to you, the top 4 arms are off. etc ..... who are the arms you are looking at now. I know many intangibles may happen between now and draft day. just curious.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) This isn't true. Reed's peripherals have and had been outstanding. Petricka doesn't come near Reed in that respect. People forget that Reed was BA's #66 prospect in 2012. Sure, they were more bullish on him than most but Reed DOMINATED the minor leagues in every respect and that's not debatable. I'd trade Petricka for Reed and wouldn't think twice about it. thank you, I was getting tired of fighting that battle.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 05:15 PM) I don't think you trade Sanchez unless you get an offer you can't refuse. He is a guy that can have a ton of value to the Sox as, at the very minimum, a reserve infielder. I don't think you'd ever want him starting at SS or 3B full time, but I see no reason why he couldn't play those positions in a pinch or for a few games here or there. However, from watching him, it didn't seem like he has the straight line speed or agility to be a capable player in the outfield, though I could obviously be wrong on that. I got a different impression from Semien, who does seem like he should be capable both in the outfield and infield. I don't think Semien is going to be relegated to a platoon role at the MLB level. I think he will fit more in line with a super sub sort of role where he will play all over and get consistent playing time as opposed to essentially being a backup and starter solely against LHP. Also, while I will say that I don't hate the idea of Kelly Johnson on like a non-guaranteed contract, I think the Sox should be looking for a bit more contact off the bench. Johnson's career statline reads like Dayan Viciedo except somehow worse. this is where I was thinking. but I wanted to see how spring training develops. a great way to think outside the box. but I really like to see how the other players do. options, options and more options. yessss

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 03:15 PM) With the injuries, I think Johnson just needs more AB's in the minors. imo I think he is ready. wait and see, come spring.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) The problem with dealing him is that he's at about the perfect path to think he could take over from Alexei after 2016 when the missile hits FA. Maybe we could put our spectacular defensive Rondon on that path but it is nice having Anderson sitting there as an obvious heir-apparent. yeah and somewhere I read that someone mention that sox was thinking of extending The Missle (I like the name) 2 more yrs esp if the sox sign another Cuban player. trading Conor and putting Anderson at 3b.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) I am wondering at this point if Anderson will be the key piece in a Sox deal this off-season. RH has done a nice job of amassing some assets and he will start cashing some in to improve the ML roster at some point. Just idle speculation on my part, but I believe that will be the first name brought up in trade talks when the Sox look to upgrade their lineup. I believe him and some of the young pitchers.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) I don't disagree with it being a move the Sox could make, I disagree with it being a good gamble if we're spending $40 million elsewhere. We wouldn't just be risking the salary spent on Morales, we'd be risking the entire extra payroll boost. If we're spending $40 million/year this offseason, then spend an extra $5 million and bring in a DH who had a better year last year than Morales. Otherwise, don't bother spending it. ohhh that is a great point. damn, I can't think of a counter now. good job.

is a question, is it me or does a lot of sports site have a more than avg interest in the sox team and its young farm system.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) Maybe a young Juan Pierre then? pls I will deal with a Crawford type player.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) The problem with Morales being part of an "all in" campaign is...what happens if he continues being terrible next year? We spent $40 million on other guys and wound up with a .615 OPS from our DH spot and that costs us a playoff birth. that is a very good point. but all this, the performances of the players are all a risk. the worst gamble in injury. re Morales, he has had a up - down hitting career. it may be a good gamble, esp if he came with a low 1 yr salary.
-
QUOTE (bear_brian @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) Here is an "all-in" FA approach for 2015: 1. Chase Headley for 4 years, $56M: great 3B defense, switch hitter, hope power returns, allows Gillaspie as trade chip 2. Kendry Morales for 2 years, $15M: Cuban, throw last year out due to late start, another switch hitter, can DH and play 1B. Teaming with Abreu would facilitate big comeback?? 3. Emilio Bonifacio for 3 year, $10M: versatile, IF/OF, fast, would replace the pathetic L Garcia 4. Bullpen: a) Zach Duke for 3 years, $13M: LH, high K rate b) Luke Gregerson for 3 years, $20M: one of the best RH relief pitchers, could close 5. Jason Hammel for 3 years $25M: gives us the RH starter, allows Bassit to go to bullpen This adds approximately $ 45M to payroll, keeping us around $100M interesting reading. well thought out. good job. I saw this about Morales and I was gong to comment on it earlier but here goes. on the rumor page the offseason plan on Cle, the reporter venture on it by saying that he can see Cle going after Morales. the price tag could be a 1 yr at a low salary to reestablish his value.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) Its doubtful given that he does not have good speed and is not really thought of as a good defender at all. Though with him at 2B, it would give the Sox a chance to turn Micah into Carl Crawford when he was young. interesting thought. for what its worth, I have concerns with his arm.
-
I just saw this of Nail Yakupov on the rumor page of the possibility of being traded. last yr, I wanted the Hawks to trade for him. this was before Edm traded for Scivens the goalie. I wanted the Hawks pgk Crawford, Leddy, and several other prospects to entice Edm to make the trade. in rtn the hawks get Yakupov and Mitch Moroz with a draft pick. this trade will help in freeing up salary. oh well I wonder if the hawks can pkg another group to get him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) I don't know how many times posts have been made about guys who absolutely sucked in the minors when it came to error totals, but ended up being damned good major league SS's. don't get me wrong, I see Anderson as the heir at the SS position. I can even deal with his errors if he doesn't improve. I am in the hoping that he will get better.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) Raanta had a great game as well. Richards/Bickell both had much better games, but most of their movement was away from the puck. Seems like Saad was able to control the puck and set them up a lot better. Richards, he played better but his game right now just seems to be throwing the puck at the net as soon as he touches it. after last season, I was wondering if he can take over the role of starting goalie. this thought was based on salary limitations. it is funny how after Bickell performance that he went out and score. lastly I am surprise that the play of the other d-man are doing a great job since leddy was traded.
