QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:41 PM) According to Baseball-reference, If Abreu doesn't opt out of his contract and apply for arbitration after this year, he is scheduled to receive $12.17M in 2017 (age 30), $13.17M (age 31) in 2018, $13.67M (age 32) in 2019, and then become a free agent prior to the 2020 season. I don't see anybody in the White Sox system that can produce as well as Abreu can, so they will be forced to pay him a huge salary - either through arbitration or through signing Abreu to a longer term deal. Abreu might opt for arbitration after this year with thought of seeing what the new collective bargaining agreement might mean for player's salaries in the future. That's why all the free agents have been securing opt outs. you bring up something really interesting to think about. the sox does not have a 1b prospect in the upper levels and Corey Zangari is a long way from reaching the majors, if he continues in his unbelievable development. so, the sox will have to pay the cost, no matter what it is to keep JA..... just my thoughts.

i went to other hockey sites and no one is talking about it. i trust the group here, i know they will not do something to make soxtalk look bad.... but i am confuse to why no one is talking???

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) I prefer Jackson as well and would like to see what Saladino can do at SS. I'm not against the idea of Desmond at all but signing Desmond doesn't help the Sox OF situation so I'm kinda stuck in the middle. I know this won't be a popular idea but in an effort to keep the comp pick I'm not against rolling the dice by signing Jackson for CF, move Eaton to LF, Melky to RF, bench LaRoche and sign Alvarez to a one year contract to DH and hope he can build enough value to be worthy of a comp pick in the '17 draft. Jackson upgrades the defense and brings a bit of speed to the lineup while Alvarez provides some middle of the lineup LH power. Not the best solution but both players are affordable and do not cost a pick. for the total cost of the whole spending, i too like the jackson rt and pickup A Simon or T Lincecum as a reclamation project. i would love to have an unbelievable tough pen.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) You do know JR does not sign players right? My guess is Hahn has the money but does not think 5/$100M for Cespedas is worth the investment. If he signs for 4/$80 then there can be a debate. I want the White Sox to have a philosophy and stop with the every now and then All In mantra. You are either in or you are out as your organizational premise. Figure it out and follow through with it. Stop pissing on my shoes and telling me it is raining. while cespy is not my choice, i still would go 23 mil per and two yrs.... i know it may be all against the logic of this kind of deal, but the sox have to finish this project .... if not him, find some closure and go onto the second tier players.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) I'm going to be there. The RH and RV town halls should have some additional security if Avi is still penciled in as the RF next week. I'm sure Robin will be asked if he has a pulse, and then Mr. Tough Guy who asks it will scurry away from the room when he does. i normally go to the ress in ARZ for vacation. but i told my cuz that i may skip that if the sox sign some extra pieces. so 1 part was to go to chi for sox fest, i was thinking if any of my cuz will want to come.... the other part is going to catch some real baseball games in sox park. damn i want to sox to do something.

QUOTE (RaySox @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:17 PM) I would throw Cespedes 5/100 (to match Nats) with a player opt-out after 2017. He gets the chance to play at a hitter friendly park with friend Jose Abreu and he gets free Beggar's Pizza for the duration of the contract i made my proposal and i was told it was non sensible or something. it might have been. but with the minor league having J May and A Engel close to step in, and i am sorry but i think i lost faith in Hawkins. i still see a 3-4 yr contract. i like the fact that the sox should give a front loaded contract with a mutual option after 2 yrs. pay the $$$$ for a hitter.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:15 PM) Hardly calling him a loser. its all kool....... how many are going to sox fest..... ?????

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:06 PM) If what we believe is true with Cespedes and the top thing to him aside from money is culture, no reason we should offer more than the nats. nice post. but i see the amount of money being really important on many players.... they will go for the money. so my additional question is, is there a point in money and / or yrs that many posters can honestly say, they would not be happy with???

QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Off topic but, a LaRoche question. Did he or did he not have a hand injury last year? If he did can we at least hope that he could be a serviceable platoon at DH with anyone? you may have a point there. then why did they try to trade him while purposing eating a big chunk of his salary.... if the hand injury was there. the other sp who was talked up and he failed.... palino or something like that... i can't find the real name on baseball ref but he was sent to the minors and later on the IR for the whole yr... on a injury. when excuses are made, i just don't believe it .... if it is all lip service. it is just me.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:52 PM) If you're implying that I misinterpreted your post, you are the one who said we drafted John Danks twice. read post #5044 QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) * This is all types of wrong. They drafted Jordan. He didn't sign. They traded for John. Re-drafted Jordan. Signed John to an extension because he was a good pitcher at the time. and there is where i got the first names wrong, but the danks story was right. it still goes to the loyalty of JR.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) Understood. Again, wasn't trying to attack you. Just noting that this isn't just a one poster vendetta against you. i am not feeling threaten.... all is kool.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:45 PM) Yep, Avi and Davidson being busts has killed the resources. but wouldn't you include the laroche contract as the catalyst of not wanting to waste money, until the contracts comes off the books???

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) This is the link you should be posting: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/danksjo01.shtml This is who we were talking about. then some shouldn't make assumptions.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) You seem like a great guy and all, but he's got a point. Most of your posts are nearly impossible to decipher, and the ones that are decipherable are usually little one liners or agreeing with someone. And I often wonder by reading your posts if you even watch any baseball or just post about it. Guessing we're not in the minority on the board either. Again, you seem like a great guy and all and I am sure we'd get along wonderfully over a beer watching a Sox game, but your posts often just muddy the water. i make plenty of post, that are more than one liner as you said. but i have said and in many posts, my english skill are very weak. so.... with ref to some posters who likes to lay in wait for a chance to attack.... i get defensive.... there is a history there on his side.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) She got the days wrong. Also didn't the Hawks fly home after the last game of a circus trip? The Internet is so dumb. well i was waiting for someone else to bring up more info..... i just thought it was sooo stupid and fake. at least i hope so.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:21 PM) Yes, that is just another quality post from LDF that falls about 50 yards short of making any sense. ahhh yet another attempt by you to make yourself look ummmm well you can fill in that for yourself. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/danksjo02.shtml

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) Torches are lit and it appears its only a matter of time before the castle at 35th and Shields is stormed. Film at 11 ! the barbarians are at the gate.....

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) I believe Sox knew Danks was getting surgery before they offered that deal. I've always thought it was a terrible deal, one of KW's worst. i still maintain that it was all JR doing.... for this main reason. this is not a jump on JR rant. the sox really like the danks brothers and drafted jon twice. the first time Borasrse was his agent. then they, the danks got rid of the agent and then signed with the sox.... i am skipping parts. JR must have felt he owed jon a contract b/c jon trusted jr..... so jr returned the favor.... no one will say that jr never turned his back on anyone if they went to bat for jr. that loyalty is why i have always like of him and still does. loyalty in this age, this kind of loyalty is rare.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:36 PM) Good news for the White Sox, their fans don't know where 35th and Shields is. ohhh that is really funny.... nice one.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) Someday people will stop with this. Unless the player is similar to Shaw who can give you some offense, these guys who hit people and only hit people are useless in today's NHL. The Canucks in the past and the Blues & Ducks recently have tried to sign and trade for guys who can bully the Hawks and other teams and it just doesn't work. Garbutt is horrible, and to think he was a 1st line player earlier this season disgusts me. As someone else here said, Garbutt is easily replaceable Sekac does have NHL experience, too. He played in 50 games for the Habs last year. I can't find a spot for him on the roster now unless they do away with Panik after oversleeping, but he will get some ice time here I disagree on Toews' line. Toews and Shaw have been great offensively lately. Toews has 6 points in his last 5 and Shaw has 3 assists in his last 5 did i ever say i was against this trade. garbutt is nothing but a role players and did his job. as far as i know he was passable at it. look at bickell he couldn't do that same job. the bottom line, this was a trade to help clear salary next yr in which will help provide salary for the bread man. he is more important which i have stated again.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) I think he became redundant with the emergence of some of the other lower line guys, plus Kruger is coming back some day... and everything you is true...... i just like that there is a little money savings for next yr and the breadman new contract.
-
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) If the only teams remaining in these discussions are only with the White Sox and Mets, and the Mets are not going beyond 1 year, why would the White Sox need to go from 3 to 4 years. The only reason I can think is if they believe Cespedes will take the Mets offer over the White Sox. Have any other teams been linked to Cespedes? Is Washington a serious player? for me, i would think yes. i looked at the NL East and see that still wide open. maybe with nat't being a little fav.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) It'll be warranted if they continue to sit on their hands until the season starts. This looks like a half finished product and will probably perform like one. and then some posters ... yeah even me will think it all goes back to $$$$ and look at where the sox salary is at the start of the yr.... 120 mil. i just hate looking at this that way, but it is soooo obvious , how can anyone not see. now if the second tier of'er and another much needed position that will be great.
