QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 01:58 PM) Sox sign Cespedes...possible WS team. Sox sign Fowler, probably the worst team in the division. Will lose at least 90 games. Sometimes if you look at it actually written out, you MAY see how silly it really is. Shawn Abner, Luis Alvarado, Mike Andrews, Ed Herrmann. really??? i really don't know about that. but i will think about that. (i saw later where this was address. sorry) all i know is Cle is going to be freaking tough to beat. that team has some players on it and wow, they really assembled a nice looking group of young hitters.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) Are you kidding me? Soxfest will be a murderfest if no one else signs. I'll bet that it will get more attention if nothing is done than if they sign cespedes. Already the score morning show is saying how bad they will be for settling for second teir acquisitions. The score will stir up the fanbase about how much better the cubs will be and what the sox shouls hafe done. you know, i respect you and respect you as a posters. with that. if the sox does not get cespy... for whatever reason, and settle for a second tier of'er like jackson and pickup lets say a sp or a temp ss. i would be extremely happy. they still did something to improve this team. that team will still be fun to watch....

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:42 PM) None this year, but Sekac will be a FA while Garbutt was still signed for next season. link i am surprise at the trade and Garbutt did his job. he brought his lunch box to the ice ..... but as someone asked of savings. i can see the hawks trading him if it meant the player coming is a fa next yr. i see this as moving pieces for the bigger picture. resigning Panarin and the salary he would want...... that is the priority .

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) I just have a hard time thinking the sox are a finalist only offering 3 years. I could see the mets because they were just in the World Series. i am just wondering, i am not ranting, starting an argument or instigating anything. i am wondering if this was just posturing from the sox so they can go to soxfest and say, well we tried and we couldn't get it done, but we did try. 3 yr contract..... now on a side note, i have always been indifferent on the sox getting one of the top 3 of'ers. it would have been nice. but my opinion was they will never pony up the cash to get it done.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:49 AM) Wow. Some heavy duty postering going on here. i would hate to be in a poker game with hahn.....

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:43 AM) That would probably go down as the most bizarre/nonsensical contract in baseball history. lol .... in my warp sense of looking at things... it make perfect sense.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:32 AM) Recue: but where would he play? dh
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:17 AM) What would you pay Cespedes if it was up to you? i will play. 4 yr contract. 10 signing bonus 1- 25 mil player has an option 2.-20 mil mutual option 5 mil 3-20 mil mutual option 5 mil 4. 18 mil.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 01:07 AM) Also, I'm not saying I think there is a right answer. Obviously a thousand different things can happen. But if a resounding amount of people say "Hahn and Williams did everything they could this off-season and it was a resounding win", then in theory we shouldn't hear any complaints at the end of 2016 about a bad front office. But I have a hunch that won't be the case. you not including mismanagement on the field......
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:59 AM) I asked the question because I'm curious where expectations will be if Cespedes is signed. It seems like that will meet the fans expectations for a very good off-season. What if they fail, and it's an 81 win season. Who is to blame at that point? and for me, you make a great question but i would like to know why 81 wins.... if everyone is healthy then i would blame the FO b/c they saddle this great group of players with a freaking incompetent field manager. pitchers hurt, then it goes back to getting a back up pitcher which i been ragging about. key players hurt.... can not fault no one except lady luck.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:05 AM) The White Sox owe me absolutely nothing. It was my decision many years ago to become a White Sox fan. End of story. the sox owed me 1 thing and i hope i would get it before they bury my sorry arse in the ground..... a world series .... i got that. i am content. bulls, championship, ck bears championship ck hawks championship ck sox... championship ck. not in jail....... ck what more can i ask.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:24 AM) He's obviously one of those guys who just despise fans' second guessing. There's really nothing wrong with that EXCEPT he gets paid a lot of money to deal with fan criticism (the little there is). He needs to just shut up and coach. But I can see why he'd hate second guessing. Is he a total jerk in real life? Can anybody shed light on that or does he just hate media and opinionated fans? what make his different than buddy rayn when he coach the bears..... maybe he was constipated
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:42 AM) And if it doesn't, is Hahn to blame? esp the pitching, that is the most important and there is no one who can step in, i think that is why many, including me, would like another sp signed....
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) Since do you have to make a move just to please the fans, the Sox have an interesting team that figures to be both competitive and they are better on paper compared to last year. Cespedes would be icing on the cake yeah, but he is not going to make the break the season. If you convince me that signing him guarantees the Sox a ring, then I'll change my stance. nah man, that was last yr and my ridicules prediction, i will never go down that road ....

QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 11:53 PM) Nicely said, LDF. believe you me, i never intended to be a voice of reason, i am not that kind of person. but this is going in circles and that is even me who has cross eyes.

QUOTE (captain54 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 10:08 PM) Athlete life? we are talking business and marketing 101… where normally when there is a problem with the product, or attendance in this case…you address what YOU are doing wrong, as opposed to what the CUSTOMER is doing wrong.. on second thought. you may be right.. life at 35th and Shields reflects more of an insular "company softball team" mentality, as opposed to life in the real world... i am not taking sides b/c i was not here. yeah i read the pages, but still i was not here at the moment. the thing i keep spouting is everyone has an opinion. whether you agree with it or not. no one can force anyone to change their opinion but there is something called respect and respect other people opinion even if it is different than yours.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 08:22 PM) His not walking is less of a concern in the pure sense - if he hits enough, not walking isn't a big killer. The problem is what it indicates about him as a hitter, and that is backed up by our in-person looks. He's too free-swinging, wants to go after too many pitches, expands the zone. He's susceptible to good offspeed stuff. He needs to learn patience not primarily to walk more (though that's a pleasant side effect), but in order to force pitchers to come to him. I think AAA is going to be a key test for him. People seem to assume he'll just make a quick touch and go in Charlotte then be in Chicago, but that's a mistake. AAA pitchers are not much more talented than AA ones, but they are going to be a lot more refined, mature, experienced and able to exploit glaring weaknesses. Anderson is able to cover his weakness in this area because he has such quick hands and strong bat to ball skills, but that only goes so far and will probably be exposed (hopefully for only a brief period) in AAA. sounds great.... again continue development is coming.... excellent -
24/7 Wall Street: Sox 5th largest declining fanbase in sports
LDF replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) Wow. I didn't figure it was that bad.. Let's face it. We're the diehards of the diehards on this board. We'll go wherever they play. However, people like my father or many friends of mine just won't simply make the trip. They have kids and tasks to do. Taking 2+ hours RT to drive on a Wednesday isn't happening. That leaves a few weekend games a year they go to. The other team draws on a large Northside population. We can argue to the cows come home, but even I, end up going to more Cubs games a year than Sox. (Probably 12 Cubs games, 10 Sox or so each year). How? Why? I get free tickets (never paid to get into Wrigley), and also I can walk or take 2 min cab to a game. Same for when its over. Very nice to leave the ballpark in the Top 8, and be in bed by the Top 9. We'll never win that crowd over. We can however win over the suburb crowd who is looking for somewhat of the same comfort. that freak of a team on the northside .... can compare with them. the sox needs to be competitive and then they can use present attendance with itself to gage it success or failure. the team the sox would have been great if the owners didn't screwed it, the new location around the PO would have been soooo much better. but oh well that didn't happen. -
QUOTE (captain54 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 08:15 PM) Well, you don't know the whole background of how this thing got started, so basically... you don't know what you're talking about, so we'll leave it at that… there's whining there but its no more or less than any other fan board… of course, in your fantasy world it sounds like your panacea is for everyone to hold hands and sing Kumbaya, despite three losing seasons… so every once in a while, posters need to let their hair down. nothing wrong with that.

The Top 30 White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2016

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 07:35 PM) He has improved the K rate every year and it was only 20.7% K/PA in 2015. I was more concerned when it was at 25.9% in Kannapolis. that is the one thing that i am wondering. can the sox and the lineup deal with his hitting and not walking???? for the minors, he is developing..... i just have to wait until his stats starts coming in in the minor league games. don't get me wrong, he is an exciting player and there is a reason why some teams have inquired about him in any possible trade request.... per cincy rumor, -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) It's from WSI. They literally get upset if the guy taking the money in the parking lot isn't smiling at them. I am totally serious. wow, a blast from the past..... i got into a huge fight one nite with davers..... he banned a poster for a comment he made. the poster came back with another name and there was an argument. me, being stupid and ready for a fight / argument, i jumped in and it was like a 2 hour fight, jason was there and i was threaten, since i post alot, that if i didn't stop i would be banned. well jason jump in and told many that nite of this site..... and that was the end of wsi for me. several posters came over since then in the first months.... either way, this site is great and jason have done a great job. i felt bad b/c of some bad suggestions i gave jason. bulls talk and hawks talk, died..... but i am really stoke on how far the minor league side took off..... this is due to the hard work those guys do there. this was all done in 2002..... but the server went down and many posters lost their post count, if my fragile memory is correct.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:32 PM) Not saying it would actually happen but it does make sense. The Mets could get a decent package for Granderson and Cespedes is over four years younger than Granderson. If the Mets were to actually do something like this, overall they would only be adding roughly 6M more per year to the payroll. That's not much at all, even for a team that claims they are in debt. i got to give you credit.... very creative way of making it work.

crap, i would even give his camp on opt after 1 yr.... with how the fa's looks like next yr. he and his camp should bring in some tall change then.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) I'm going to say Houston fans have nothing to taunt the Sox about down here there is no baseball except for LSU so they follow Hou.... yesterday and today the bs talk of hou being in play or something. these guys really don't know what it is to being a sox fans...... it is all in the attitude.
