The Top 30 White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2016
LDF replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:58 PM) Thanks for the great work as usual. If you had to only pick one, which Sox prospect do you think increases his stock the most in 2016? damn.... a great question. Adams or Zangari or for me as well Engel all 3 will show something very important for different reasons. the unknown who make a surprise entry. ~ Blake Hickman, - i really would love to see what he brings to the table, was hurt last yr ~ Jordon Stephens - tjs just the yr before his draft, nice profile.... i trust the sox pitching coaches to take care of him. mean no rushing. ~ Lassiter - i like him b/c of his name and b/c he has a cocky attitude, reminds me of Eaton ..... the biggest "is he a prospect or not" will have to be Hawkins. remember all this is subjective. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 06:56 AM) When googling Fowler's name a few times, I've come across his twitter and gave it a quick look. Cubs fans really want him back pretty bad from what I've read. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he ended up back with the Cubs. The cubs were in the NLCS and have since, on paper, gotten better so if I was Fowler I'd want to go back to the cubs as well. Not to toot my own horn but I have said a few times that I think the Sox find their OF upgrade via grade, given their budget situation. I still think Hahn is trying to find the OF equivalent of the Lawrie trade where the Sox give a few really young prospects but not top prospects. I have no idea who that outfielder might be though. i assemble this list 2 weeks ago..... san - kenp, salary dump. La dod - ethier - salary dump brew - braun - salary dump yanks - brett gardner - this one is interesting, i read the yanks wanted out from his contract, so it can be salary dump or 2 low level pitchers, he can play CF, but i don't understand why they want him out???? i am sure i may have missed some. i was bored so i did this list.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) There's definitely some question marks until we see everyone on the field. Abreu: all we can do is hope he can continue to get better and I think he will. I think having a solid 3B in Frazier will help Abreu's defense. Poor Abreu has had a few bad third baseman to handle throws from. Gillaspie, I'm looking at you! Lawrie: was an above average 3B in Toronto before his injuries. Oakland bounced him around the field so he never had a chance to solidify himself in one position. Watched him make a few nice plays at 2B for Oakland and seems to have enough quickness and range for the position with a much stronger arm than what we've seen from Sanchez. I think he will be fine since he will have a chance to settle in at 2B with the Sox. Saladino: SS is his natural position. Supposed to have good range and we all know he has the arm strength. I honestly believe Saladino will be a defensive upgrade over Alexei. Frazier: great range but for whatever reason his fielding and throwing errors were up last season. Maybe a by-product of playing for a s***ty Reds team that became sellers? Who knows. Still an upgrade over what we've seen from third baseman for the last.... well, too many years. Lol. I think that overall the infield defense will be much better. What really concerns me is the outfield defense. That's what we should really be talking about. Uhg! a great breakdown by position and players. i really think it starts and ends with the SS Saladino defense will hold the whole infield together.... and from that there will be a ripple effect with everyone stepping up. alot can be said for starting with 3b, the hot corner and i will not disagree, but i think it is the SS.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:46 AM) The Nat's could sign Cespedes for LF, platoon Ravere/Taylor in CF with Harper in RF and use Werth in a bench role since he's pretty much un-tradable anyway due to his salary, age and poor performance. Werth could still get some playing time against LHP too. They could make it work. Don't forget, were talking about the NL so bench players get used more due to pinch hitting for pitchers. It actually makes sense for the Nat's really. a really good POV. never thought of it that way.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:39 AM) Ethier is totally someone that could be linked to the Sox why not kemp from San .... if they want to dump salary???
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:34 AM) It only takes one team to be convinced what he did last year was the truth. i am being honest, i don't get it. i have never been high on him, i never thought the sox will get him, i am ready to come back on this thread, if the sox did sign him for me to eat some over cook crow. but i do not think he is the right guy for the sox. on the other hand i have wanted jackson, murph, francoeur for a short salary in yrs until J May can come around. but that signing will also help out in a SP kind of a signing for a second position help. just me.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:32 AM) And then trade for Reyes/Puig and call it an off season. ugh.... i am going to get sick.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:23 AM) I'm thinking a bonkers deal with Tampa that includes Baez and Soler for Odorizzi and McGee. geez that will be a nice trade.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:29 AM) I think you're right. 13/14 is probably closer to what can be expected from Cespedes going forward. A few days ago I mentioned Cespedes could be the player we've seen have a career year just before FA and regress with his new contract. Cespedes is looking to get paid based on his career year but how many think he will continue to perform at that level for the length of the contract? Not me. not to be a stickler but i think many baseball org guys think that way. then i don't get Wash deal then???? i am not ashamed to say i am lost now. nice one.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:08 AM) Here's Cespedes in the locker room according to beat writers ohhhh this has to be the best...... many thanks.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:17 AM) Heh when I heard about cigarettes in the dugout that's what I thought of....smoking on the sideline before a kick lol sounds like he is a chain smoker maybe. another smoker who smoke like that was Roger Maris...... the movie 61 showed him smoking like s fiend.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 01:00 AM) hi8is has gone crazy this month... Granted, as one who gets emotional from time to time, he's REALLY taking this hard. In the back of your mind as a White Sox fan, you have to be conditioned to at least expect to be disappointed and then it's easier to be pleasantly surprised. The last time I was REALLY excited about the White Sox was heading into 2009 after the 2008 playoffs and we had Beckham and Viciedo on the horizon. Probably followed more Barons games that year in the first half than White Sox games in the second half this year. Of course, almost all of the touted prospects from that team have fallen off the face of the earth. As far as Cespedes goes, it's safe to say he's probably not going to put up another 6 WAR season. He's much more likely to be at 3-4. That would be worth roughly $24.5 per year (avg. war of 3.5) on the FA market, or basically $98 million for four. Anything over 4 years or $100 million and the White Sox should turn somewhere else. The end. i really don't know what is going on, i am just reading, but when i saw this, i laugh. Hi8is really cracks me up, since he first posted. back then he always responded in a he person like funnnyyyyy. i know this is not about baseball, but i needed a little relief and humor. peace

QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 12:00 AM) Posturing from his agents. If this was the best deal after months of negotiations with all of MLB, he would take the deal and sign. I have seen absolutely zero reason they would want Cespedes considering the players they currently have in the OF. This is a move to get the Sox to up the dollars or years. maybe.... just maybe... it may also be back loaded like crazy. just thinking no proof.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:57 PM) Always good to look these things up before commenting. Alvarez, as a platoon DH wouldn't be required to field anything. His inability to do so is what has driven his price down to dirt cheap. 24 homers and a.799 OPS against righties last year. a great call and as we talked about this earlier this week, the idea of his baggage / rep is also hurting his chances. i think he needs a yr to reestablish himself and as your stats shown, a platoon is a great way to do that rebuilding.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:55 PM) I'm not the only one emotionally effected by a baseball team that isn't even f***ing playing games. Cool. this was all great.... sox fans exchanging info and news. it is just great. so i am being a cheerleader. but i am a die hard sox fan.
-
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:49 PM) I don't think Austin Jackson is going to be banking any top prospects for anyone at the deadline. He's a 4th outfielder, don't see a lot of demand for that at the deadline, at least to the degree that you're getting anything good in return. and you are prob right..... i was just saying why the other poster was a really good idea.... i love it when someone can be creative .... hence my statement of thinking outside the box. btw, i meant no offense . ok.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:44 PM) Actually it does if they can sign him to a 1 year deal for cheap and flip him at the deadline for prospects. you know, that is shrewd .... thinking outside the box.... i like it.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:43 PM) Ya, I don't get the Brewers interest. They are rebuilding and have plenty of young talented outfielders. A veteran like Jackson makes no sense for the Brewers. many thanks. i thought i was crazy there, for a while.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:40 PM) Just speculating but both the Angels and Rangers had some degree of interest in Cespedes and now that it appears he's close to signing, rumors come about their interest in Jackson. Jackson's market had been dead silent until today. Anyway, I hope the Sox show some interest in Jackson. jackson is still my #1 fa pick for the outfield.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:51 PM) Jerry CrasnickVerified account @jcrasnick 47m47 minutes ago #Brewers, #Angels, #Rangers have kicked the tires on free agent OF Austin Jackson. #Cubs could be a fit for the right price. https://twitter.com/jcrasnick Since the Cespedes saga seems to be nearing an end I thought I'd post this. Good news is his market is picking up. Bad news is we arent mentioned. many thanks for this. what gets me is the Brewers being involve. .... several weeks ago, there was talk of the brewers may.... may look at moving Ryan Braun b/c of his salary and yrs of the contract.... why would they look into getting Jackson??? i was thinking of the brewers as one team i was going to mention if the sox lost out on jackson and cespy.... to look at trading for.
-
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:54 PM) Although I like the pick ... Gordon Beckham, Lance Broadway, Brian Anderson, Walker .... I'm too tired to think of the rest .... they all called. The Sox don't have a great past in the draft. Very likely the 28th pick wouldn't turn out to be anything. i have been really critical of the sox FO as much as anyone, now with that disclosure, i really trust this group of the draft dept that has been drafting lately. they have done some great picks. this draft , esp in the 27-30 picks will be very good players to select from. that is why i am really adamant on not loosing that pick not an additional 2 round pick ... the farm / minor league system needs to get better.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:16 PM) I got on my soapbox last summer and for good reason, but this one I'm not giving much attention to. Just the way it was posted, no charges just a "story", plus there is talk this is from a livejournal account that seriously does Toews and Kane sexual fan fiction or something? I don't know what is the real story, and until it picks up way more steam, I'm not paying much attention to it. i am not even sure i would want Kane or his rep or the hawks FO to respond.
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) Yeah, that's not true. It's a lot of different places, and have had a number of out of town people text me about it. You're looking on the wrong places. oops my bad, i was looking on sports sites. thanks for catching this.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:50 PM) No I agree with you. While last year was especially bad, I think Sox are actually pretty good at acquiring major leaguers. But the problem is they do have a budget, so it hurts when they miss out on their cost controlled players because there is never anyone immediately behind them. Last year's free agent class should have been supplementing Davidson/Micah/Avi/Eaton, but 3/4 have brutal flaws. a good counter, but that is why just counting on production from players that are still developing is not the route to go.... they should have had a backup plan. imo
