CHICAGO–Josh Stewart entered last season with something to prove. He went on a season-long roll the White Sox hope doesn’t end any time soon. Stewart captured a spot on the 40-man roster by helping Double-A Birmingham and Peoria win championships in the Southern and Arizona Fall leagues. The 24-year-old lefthander then made the most of his first trip to major league spring training. The former Memphis standout out-pitched righthander Jon Rauch and Gil Heredia to become the first option when righthander Dan Wright was forced to open the season on the disabled list. "He seems to be on a roll, and we can ride that out," White Sox manager Jerry Manuel said. "I’ll tell you what. If Stewart keeps throwing like he has and we have (Wright’s) 14 wins sitting down and waiting, we’re in a good situation." Manuel was impressed by Stewart’s poise and his stuff. The 1999 fifth-round selection throws in the high 80s but has a plus curveball. He changes speeds and keeps the ball down. While Stewart is likely to be optioned to Triple-A Charlotte once Wright returns, he could stick around for the long haul if Esteban Loaiza starts slowly. The Sox would like a second lefthander to work alongside Mark Buehrle. "I didn’t want it to be this way," said Stewart, who threw 200 innings over 37 starts last season between Double-A and the Fall League. "I hope Danny gets healthy. He’s a big part of this team. "This is a big opportunity for me," Stewart said. "I’m just going to come out and pitch my game and contribute whenever I can." The Sox hope the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder will be an inspiration for other players in their minor league system. He began 2002 behind more highly regarded prospects like Rauch, Corwin Malone, Dennis Ulacia and Brian West but surpassed them. Chi-Lites • Second baseman Aaron Miles, who hit .299 in 67 at-bats, and lefthanded reliever David Sanders, who struck out eight and walked one in seven innings, were the final players cut from big league camp. Both were assigned to Triple-A Charlotte. • The Sox have assigned Japanese lefthander Tetsu Yofu to Birmingham, where he could share closer responsibilities with 2002 first-round pick Royce Ring. Yofu, 29, helped the Brother Elephants win a title in Taiwan in 2001, earning two wins and two saves in the championship series

BIRMINGHAM (SOU) LHP NEAL COTTS struck out nine batters over five innings to lead the Barons past the Mobile BayBears, 4-2. Cotts, who was drafted in the second round by the Oakland Athletics in 2001 and then traded to the Chicago White Sox on December 16, 2002, scattered four hits over the outing and earned his third straight win despite surrendering his first two runs in the Class AA Southern League. The 6-2 southpaw, who had held opponents scoreless in 12 consecutive innings to start the season, struck out six straight batters between the first and third innings and is now tied for the league lead with 25 strikeouts. Although he utilizes a fastball that barely breaks 90 mph, the 23-year-old Illinois native has posted an impressive ratio of 15.0 strikeouts per nine innings, almost four better than his mark from Class A ball.
  5. having prob with hsc is just 1 of the daily routines that 1 goes thru on a daily basises. other than that, she is a witch. hsc.
  6. hear we go agian, speling corectoin.
  7. i just hope he didn't get into trouble for writing.
  8. i went on record by saying that i really didn't like this trade. but i was willing to give it a chance b/c of cotts ability. the koch vs foulke is a close to even trade. but the development of valentin and cotts is going to tell which side of the trade we got.
  9. He is the anti-Corwin Malone. He gets K's by knowing how to pitch, not overpowering hitters. in my mind, he is the key to the trade which make it bareable.
  10. any list of fa's who are available? where do you guys see the bulls picking in the upcoming draft.
  11. that was the time when a agent name started to haunt me. Scott Boras, that was also the time with Alex Fernado(sp) fiasco. but we were spared the fustration of watching him fail. at least i did. :fyou boras

  14. sounds like what we been saying about the southside.
  15. yeah and they still have another pit who be just as good. i see 6 pitchers for them that can pitching. yeah and no wonder he is able to fleece the likes of kw. he is just that good of a gm.
  16. jose batting in front of thomas will start the hitting, then you have frank batting in front of mags will continue it the prob as of now is that those who is batting after mags. any pit can't lay off with the potential of jose, frank and mags. wow. this is a dangerous group where any of them will take them yard. however when paulie and if and when carlos start to hit. this is going to be a very dangerous middle of the order hitting.
  17. i agree, dombrowski will turn aroung that club. he is one of the better gm in the game and yeah, it might take a couple yrs for it to happen.

  19. that is sooooo funny. excellent pict.
  20. here is a scouting rpt on him.... Pronounced (MILL-eh-check) Strengths: Solid athlete who can run the floor and jump like few others his size ... Creative scorer who understands how to set-up his defender off the dribble ... Excellent finisher when receiving the ball on the break or out on the perimeter as he can cut to the lane and even dunk in traffic ... On defense he is an excellent help defender who shows promise of being an adequate shot-blocker ... Does a very good job of using his long arms to grab most rebounds around his area despite usually being physically out-matched by his opponents ... Can be a nightmare for opposing players to defend due to his versatility as he is too quick for most power forwards and too tall for most small forwards to defend in the post ... Excellent ball handler for his size ... Plays extremely aggressive and wont back down from a challenge ... Competitive, he'll do whatever it takes to win ... Shows court awareness beyond his years as he will adjust his game according to how the defense plays him ... Can shoot the ball from 20 feet with consistency and even has the ability to extend out to the three point line ... Has a very high basketball IQ and sees plays before they occur ... Good passer who is blessed with solid court vision. Double teams rarely bother him ... Shows soft touch around the basket ... Owns a solid hesitation dribble move he uses to bait his defender out of the paint. As soon as his defender plays his shot, Milicic will dribble into the lane for the quick lay-up ... Weaknesses: Has problems at times holding his position on the low blocks due to his lack of body strength ... Offensively his back to the basket skills are still in the developmental stages as he prefers to face the basket ... Needs to continue to improve his upper body strength although this should be no surprise when you consider his age ... Unlike most young players defensively he shows above average skills but it's the basic stuff he'll need to improve on ... Perimeter defensive skills such as anticipation and playing the passing lanes ... As far as working on his low post defense, strength and experience are the main detracting factors ... Tends to put the ball on the floor a little too much after getting an offensive rebound ... Ball protection is a area of concern as he can get careless at times ... Needs to work on getting rebounds out of position ... When posting up Milicic should improve on getting wider so he can give guards a bigger target when they pass into the post ... here is anthony Strengths: Fluid player who shows great athleticism despite not having overly explosive leaping ability ... Possesses a quick first step which helps him gain separation from his defender to set-up his drive to the basket ... Excellent slasher, once he gets to the basket he has the creativity to make spectacular plays due to his cat like body control ... Solid rebounded thanks to his long arms and hustle ... Has range on his jump shot as he can shoot from mid-range or behind the 3-point line ... Has a innate feel for the game that most players have to develop ... Has the dribbling ability to breakdown most defenders on the perimeter ... Worked hard over the past two years to develop his upper body strength which shows his commitment to making himself better ... When leading or trailing the break Anthony is a excellent finisher in transition ... Has started to refine his low post moves ... Seems to show a knack for drawing fouls on his forays to the basket ... Has the tools to be a solid passer due to his ability to see the floor ... Weaknesses: Defensively he needs to improve on his perimeter defense such as lateral quickness and footwork ... Anthony at times can be such an dominate scorer that he can freeze teammates out of a game ... So getting his teammates involved in the offense should be worked on ... Shot selection can improve. Like most young players he has a tendency to throw up questionable attempts ... Still learning how to mix up his game offensively as too often he can settle for the jumper instead of driving into the lane ... Ball handling is adequate but his ball protection will need a slight upgrade as turnovers can trouble him ... Mid range shooting can go through periods of inconsistency ... Must improve his decision making on the court as he can get a little to flashy for his own good ... Although he has shot the ball well from behind the 3-point line he still needs to work on his jumper ... Still improving his decision making on the court but with added experience that should become less of an issue ...
  21. Puh-lease, like Olivo couldn't have come up with a pair of game-tying doubles in addition to reaching base as a go-ahead. I bet he would have reached as two go-ahead runs. it must be me and the time, b/c i really can't understanding the meaning. sorry.
  22. this draft, i realllllllllly like that anthony kid. a frosh and he has a man's body now.
