  1. Yes, HOF for sure -- assuming, of course, Nardi "the executioner" Contreras doesn't get a hold of him.
  2. Sounds to me like Wally Backman is a lot like my favorite manager in the majors, Mike Scioscia. Would that be an accurate assessment Rex? Seems like a lot of hit and runs, steals, and he preaches contact and obp? Can't say what his thoughts are about contact and OBP, but he definitely manages aggressively. He sometimes runs into outs and ends innings early, but his style manufactured more runs than I think I have ever seen. He will bunt, steal, and hit and run. For instance, say a player walks and then gets thrown out stealing. The next guy singles. Chances are, the second guy is going too. Every once in awhile, you have two outs in the inning both on steals, but more often than not, he's successful the second time. Also, the players are very aggressive going from first to third, on stretching singles to doubles, doubles to triples and they react well to bad throws on steal attempts. If the ball gets away from the 2B or SS, they are immediately looking to pop up and advance if they don't go after it right away. It is really fun to watch them play. and that is sign of a good coach, one who can manufactures runs when it is needed.
  3. but you can clear up some space for those who needs to develop. do we still need to keep a 33 yr aaa pitcher or would that space be better used for a 21 yr prospect.
  4. as much i always want the sox prospect to make the show. but reality sinks in. they is not enuf room so with some teams have a really poor pitching staff. we can clear up some space and trade our excess to obtain a decent "of" or "inf" prospects.
  5. thank, i haven't heard much on him. I'm fairly positive, that two years ago Clay Eason was named the Pitcher of the Year in the Independent League. After that, he was signed by the Sox. so he was never drafted. and thanks for the info
  6. i say that if he made the club and did it for one yr and then goes back to the minors. i would be happy for him for making his dream and every young kids dream. to play in the majors just once let alone for a whole season. i am sure he would disappointed, but he can always look back and say with pride that he did make the show.
  7. thank, i haven't heard much on him.
  8. 2 questions. what is your take on miles, is he the real deal or is he at best a minor leaguer. i wish him the best. i liked him since he was drafted, but i have never been able to get a good grasp on him. do you think olivio has the making to be in the bigs. with him arm and maybe his defense i think we can deal with him. it is his bat that everyone swoons on and i am not that impress with his batting.
  9. Here's the skinny (no pun intended) on Ulacia... He had a horrible year in Burlington in 2000 at 4-14. Then dominated at 4 levels in 2001 (one start in Charlotte and four in Birmingham plus stints in Kannapolis and W-S). Last year he came back soft. He had gained weight and didn't look nearly as in shape as the year before and again struggled all year. Basically by the end of the year, he was a non-factor and was out of the bullpen. This year he has lost a lot of weight and looks much better. Doesn't have that soft look like last year. I immediately saw the difference in his face and neck. Apparently, he had a really good spring. He is getting another shot at the rotation. He pitched well against the Sox today. maybe he has learned his lesson.
  10. so do you think he has what it may take to get to the next level let alone to the majors.

    USA Being boycotted

I am not talking about the ones that are struggling in the lower classes. I am talking about people that I know that get drunk 6 days a week and drive their BMW completely wasted a lot of the time and they don't give a damn about their education because no matter what they have been guaranteed a spot in the family corporation. you never classified your point and that is why i was asking for this part to be dropped. who gives a flying f*** about whether its the lower vs the upper class. the blame goes to differnt situation and why they are thinking about it and i will bet you its not b/c the lack of proper leadership in the gov but it goes back to the family
  12. ohhhh adkins the hof prospect we got for durham. i bet he will win 30 games. wow such talent.

Why would any kid pay attention when we have a president who has proven that you can have a 2.0 average, have a booze habit, finance a small Colombian village with the blow he was snorting, get into Yale and then Harvard with piss poor grades, then run for and win the Presidency of the United States. He got a job in an oil company cuz his dad ran it. He got a job in the Texas Rangers cuz his dad pulled strings. Bush never earned anything on his own like so many of the new rich yuppie motherf***s. They are born on third base and think they hit a triple. Makes me sick to my goddamned stomach. People in the limelight with LOTS OF MONEY get cushy jobs no matter what their education is....why should the kids care? so true apu. so true. about the kids wanting to learn, not sure about the bush thing though all this s*** is so much full of bs. i can't stand reading this spew you call opinions esp when you don't know what the hell you are talking about. esp at your astonishing age of what, 19. most kids who have not learn what they had too are learning a very important lesson. i am 1 of those who at 39 is concertating my kids education in school. a lot of the inner city schools kids from my time are doing the same thing. the kids who is now coming up are thinking that they can take the high road whether its thru sports or trying the entertainment industry or even being a gangster. yes the wanne be gangster is thinking that they can take the easy road and be a pimp so to speak. how do i know this is b/c when i was working i was one of those gangsters. but working to the government. there is no one leading these kids but the street, the economics of today the where they are living. you have 3 wicked snakes eyes fighting against these kids. let alone they are not getting the support from home. some of these people esp where they live have nothing to look for. so why bother.
  15. Would they be doomed if I posed in the magazine wearing nothing but my White Sox earrings? ahhh i don't know but that will be a collector edition for me.
  16. and what do you expect to get when reality sinks in and he doesn't do that well?

    Hey Rex

i was trying to remember if it was you. if i remember correctly you are very knowledgeable on the team down there. bottom line is will you be able to write something up during the season?
  19. i can't get enuf of reading anything on the sox minor leaguers. i just got done reading the report on Kannapolis and that was a good artilce. but the way>>> Edgar Valera (3B) Bats: Left Throws: Left - .330 BA, 62 H, 8 HR, 29 SO, 13 BB, .527 SLUG% is this correct? a left hand throwing 3b? but i was excited about the young prospect coming thru the system.

    Hey Rex

    No ties to Saddam, eh?

in diverting attention from your f*** ups was perfected from the reagan adminstration and later by bush. so you are right there. no matter what will happen, the arabs would never help anyone to overthrow anyone. you saw how many came to kuwatti help when they were invaded? none. it falls on us to keep the sanity of the world.

    No ties to Saddam, eh?

and as i said, we are paying for our bad judgement now. that doesn't exclude the fact that we need to do this. war has made of the strangest bedfellow. but with out the effort to improve the world, we may let another hilter take control and this time with weapons that can cause more destruction that will cost more lost of life.
  23. i love it, thing is according to what i have heard, you may be better than the hacks who does it for the sCrubs.
