Another source that Sox are in Colon/Vazqez race

Damn....in all the excitement, I forgot about Dan Wright....how the hell do you forget a guy like Dan Wright? Anyways, I'd have those two battle for a spot....and then whoever wins it out of ST is the #5 starter, and the other is a swing man. That way Diaz and all the other important ones stay in the minors. As for becoming a GM someday....what? You didn't ask me that? am i the only one who thinks that wright may be a little better than garland? -
if we get mont players without giving up too much, i may have to say something nice about kw.................. oh what a prob i am going to have.
-
texas cant afford any moves with payrods salary.....lol......please tell me that this isnt the first time you all have heard about jr and wendy lu being on this commitee.........this is the oldest news.......and most likely why we wouldnt be getting anyone from montreal in the first place unless it was done via three way trade with someone outside of the commitee............ i honestly didn't know that jr was on the committee.

some gm would have been fired for a stupid trade that kw has made.

Why do you taunt me with such ideas!!! Ok here goes...IF somehow we could miraculously pull that off here is what I do...turn around and trade B. Colon and Carlos Lee to the Reds for Adam Dunn and Ryan Dempster (fill in a few prospects where need be). Then we go into the season with: Mark B. Vazquez Garland Dempster Wright/Rauch 2B - Jiminez SS - Valentin DH - Thomas RF - Maggs 1B - Konerko LF - Dunn 3B - Crede CF - Rowand/Borchard C - Olivo We would be unbeatable. that is what i am going for with the reds or sfo. sfo has some players i would love jerome williams, Jesse Foppert, Ryan Hannaman, and orR.D. Spiehs -
Sounds like you have some intimate first hand knowledge about that, CubKilla ouch, that must hurt killa.

What catches my eye here is that he says Vazquez first, and then later on Colon....either I am getting scared that we will be getting Vazquez rather than Colon, or he worded it badly. Vazquez is a great pitcher...but I want Colon. He's pitched in the AL Central and has had success....I don't want a guy that has potential to be something incredibly good but gives us a 12-15 win season with an ERA of 4.00 or so....that's not the typical definition of an ace. I want Colon. Then again, I'll take both of them too! if we get colon and vasquez, i suppose that you would be oppose to any trade on getting rid of colon, lets say for some young stud pit and hitter? -
what is this, mil is becoming the sox minor league team?

http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2003/0113/1492077.html Baseball owners plan to set up more detailed procedures this week for the possible sale and relocation of the Montreal Expos. The committee appointed in November by commissioner Bud Selig meets Wednesday as a two-day gathering of owners starts in Scottsdale, Ariz. "We're expecting to get the homework assignment from the committee, including what specific areas the committee is interested in hearing about and the timeline,'' Bobby Goldwater, president of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, said Monday. "We were told a presentation would be taking place anytime from late February, March, it could even be in April. That's the expectation. That's what we were told would happen.'' Washington and Portland are the only two areas known to be vying for the Expos, with separate groups formed for downtown Washington and Northern Virginia. Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos has objected to a team moving to Washington, and it's not clear if he would try to block a relocation to his area. Baseball's committee is charged with making a recommendation to Selig by the All-Star break in July. "They're going to give us all the details of what they want to see in the presentation,'' said Drew Mahalic, chief executive officer of the Oregon Sports Authority. "They are going to want to see that Portland corporately, politically and demographically is able to support the Montreal Expos.'' Interest in the Expos has not developed in Charlotte, N.C., which in the 1990s discussed a possible move by the Minnesota Twins. The Expos were bought by the other 29 major league teams before the 2002 season. The franchise is being operated by the commissioner's office, which has ordered the team to cut payroll, leading Montreal general manager Omar Minaya to consider dealing pitchers Bartolo Colon and Javier Vazquez, and catcher Michael Barrett. To increase revenue, the commissioner's office moved 22 Expos' "home'' games in 2003 to San Juan, Puerto Rico. No team has moved since the expansion Washington Senators became the Texas Rangers after the 1971 season. Selig's committee on the Expos includes Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf and Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks, along with Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, and Selig's daughter, Wendy Selig-Prieb. At the owners' meeting, Selig also is expected to discuss his plan to have the team that wins the All-Star Game get home-field advantage in the World Series. what got me is that jr on on the committee of operating the team. could that be one reason why the lack of news of any trade? don't want to be charge with olaying favoritism or influencing any trades?

i am with clee being in the deal, i wonder if tatis can play the "of" position?

its not that we want him, it prob mont want to add him in any deal

found this on espn. i really don't have much to say. it pretty much says it. The theft of Ray Durham. On July 25, the A's fleeced the Chicago White Sox, acquiring Durham for minor league Jon Adkins. Durham's a middle infielder who hits for average and power, and has great plate discipline and speed. Jon Adkins has a live arm, but a completely uninspiring record when it comes to actually pitching, posting mediocre strikeout rates throughout his minor league career, and sporting an ERA in excess of 6 at Triple-A Sacramento at the time of the trade, with a tidy 139 hits allowed in 97 innings. To even up the deal, the White Sox threw in some cash. this was on the oak team page update.

CHICAGO–Former Long Beach State Dirtbags Jeremy Reed and Edgar Varela took different gates into the White Sox organization, but both made immediate contributions. Reed, a second-round pick in June, came through the front entrance after being a standout outfielder-first baseman both on Team USA and in three seasons at Long Beach. Varela, a 31st-round pick after a hamate injury sidelined him for most of his senior season, entered through the back door. It was no surprise Reed came out swinging, hitting .319-4-31 with 17 stolen bases at low Class A Kannapolis. But at the same time, Varela proved he might be a steal, as the 22-year-old played a solid third base and hit .330-8-40 for Rookie-level Bristol. Varela joined top prospects Anthony Webster and Andy Gonzalez in a lineup that averaged 6.1 runs a game. "He’s a power guy and he can really play third base," said scouting director Doug Laumann, who selected Varela off reports from his play in the Central Illinois Collegiate League in 2001. "He’s got great hands. But he was a guy who was drafted because we needed some balance with our younger players. He’s going to have to continue hitting as he moves up the ladder if he’s going to be a big league player." Reed, 21, comes with a much better pedigree. He was Team USA’s leading hitter in 2001 and MVP of the Alaska League in 2000. He hit .326 in his three seasons at Long Beach and wound up second on the school’s career list with 55 stolen bases. "Jeremy Reed’s a baseball player," Laumann said. "He did not surprise us. We thought he would hit .300 wherever he went, even Double-A. Plus I think he’s going to develop a little more power than he has right now." Reed played both first base and outfield at Long Beach, but the White Sox drafted him strictly as an outfielder. "He’s a good outfielder," Laumann said. "He’ll be able to play center field, in my opinion."

ah you are right about one, if we can resign colon to a new contract. the one part of the trade that i didn't add was the idea that any deal is going to include tatis. the other part that i just thought off is with c lee being involve in the trade, we are going to have to address the need of a cf and lf'er. maybe liefer can help, but he is not the answer.
-
with varga (sp) in the minors at 3b, i can let go of crede if it can bring both pitchers. but we need mark b in the rotation, that is the reason why we are trying to get better.
-
interesting slant, i like it.
-
ref to the other teams, what would be a sweet deal is if some of the players they have after the trade can be use for a future trade with some other team later, addressing other needs. but i hope that you are right.

I like Garland a hell of a lot....but he is younger and put up better numbers than Wright last year. If we gave them Wright over Garland, we'd probably have to give them Biddle too or another prospect...I'd consider giving them Jon Adkins or Franklin Francisco. I'm fine with either deal....I figure the Expos would rather have Garland than Wright....but I'm not Omar Minaya, so who the hell knows. Remember though....no one get you hopes up. This IS the White Sox we are dealing with. according to some, the superstar in the making jon adkins should be enuf to swing the trade in our favor, wouldn't you think. but we can take a the hit in ref to minor league prospect, the sCrubs, oak, sd and cle have a basket fulls of prospect to throw to the expos. so the question is will we give up prospect such as rauch, honel, jb and majors like garland or wright for them?
