I agree with you 100%. what gets me pissed is reading in here how the sox are gonna suck and this this and that. Please stop crying that they havent done s*** all offseason we all know that its been posted here so many times and im sure everyone here knows how to read so lets stop with that bull s*** rant its not helping. I really think this team will be fine but I'm a die hard Sox fan and support my team no matter what. Lets look at what this team has done when they went out and brought in these big guns lets just look. Belle back in the day they didnt do s***, Wells what did he do for us??? and then there is Koch and I think the wounds are still fresh enough from that hellish experiment. Look at 2000 there were no expectations on that team no major players added and look what came of it CENTRAL CHAMPS. dont lose faith in this team yet cause although they may not have the star power they have guys who are young and could really impact the team this year. Willie Harris may be the leadoff guy we need so badly, rowand could be and think will be a very solid player this year and our 2 guy in the line up. Our rotation will have question marks no dobt about it but when MB came up did anyone think he would be as good as he has been? Cotts will be our fifth and I can deal with that we need a fourth and maybe we dont maybe we bring up another young arm from the minor to fill both the 4th and 5th slots who cares. Be real fans and support our team no matter what and have a little faith they have no pressure on them this year so they wont be pressing so much and you know what that may be exactly what they needed. This team will make the playoff and unlike some in here I have never doubted that!!

I like Ponson but i dont think he is worth 7mil per for 3 yrs I think 5mil is a fair price for a pitcher who before last season was an underacheiver.

DEAL LIKELY: New York Daily News (WITH LINK)

Brandofan: Like I said Nomar for 15 million no but for 12-14 why not he could possibly help bring in some revenue and if not you could always trade the guy. Also like I said earlier if the sox trade their best player for another superstar then spin him off to the Dodgers or Angels or for that matter whoever the casual fans woulld look at that like a team not trying to win. I know we know better then that but its not the die hard fans that would be upset and not show up at the game it would be the casual guy who wouldn't show up. Thats my concern cause if we are to ever get some more flexability we will need the casual fans to show up at the games and lets face it for the casual fan there is alot in a "name" a name such as Nomar. -

Although I dont get your sarcasim there. In now way did I say Nomar is worth 25-30 million so dont make an ass out of yourself by putting words into my mouth. Sosa's contract was signed when the market was at it's high point right now the market is at down fall and contracts for star players have dropped in value and years offered. Also not one time during my post did I say pay him 15million dollars per. What I said to clearify it for you is that the fact that he is a SS puts him at a premium. Now looking at the market as it is today Nomar IS worth 12-14 million a year rather you think the sox should pay him that money or not is your opinion but not a fact. Blame the O's for the market being so high on SS this year compaered to anyother position cause they over paid to get Tejeda. As for the sox payroll being only 60million next year who knows they do have the deal with comcast that Imsure will be paying them a pretty penny which may allow them to up the stakes a little. All im saying is that if we can try and resign Nomar before just shipping him out it would benefit the team more from a PR prospective cause now you have a NAME superstar not one who is Hidden away ( Maggs ). It would not in anyway hurt us to try and lock him up. Think about this Nomar playing short for the sox for the next 5 years or so would help bring in some fans compared to trading Maggs for Nomar then spinning Nomar off for lets say Mota and Prospects no matter how good they are this will look like nothing more then the sox being cheap to the casual fan rather then making themselves better for the future. The only way we get a bigger budget to work with is if the fans come out to watch the games and that will not happen if the casual fans see us just trading away all the good players cause they cost to much for young guys who " maybe " good in the future. Look at the whole picture from all prospectives -
You know D'Angelo did a nice job for Cincy and right about now I would love to have him here instead of praying that willie can hit atleast .200 this year. Do you really think that Ozzie would be able to sit there and watch Jimenez slack off?? I dont think so. He would be the best second basemen on our team without a doubt and you know what he is one of the better one in the league and still has a high ceiling if/when he starts to put his heart and soul into playing baseball. I still feel that he will be a good player and that we gave up on this kid way to soon. JMO

I agree 100% with you. I do feel this trade will get done though...My question is this though wasn't it reported that the Nomar for Maggs deal was dead or was that simply cause the whole deal was dead Im not real clear on if the a-rod deal will still effect us or not. Also anyone have any idea who the pitcher we would be giving up is it Wright, Rauch, or Cotts???

4 guys the Sox should and very well could get
The_Godfather replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Livan Hernandez is out there then I would try and grab him up, he looked really good last year. I really wish the sox would have picked up Mark Redman but it wasnt meant to be I guess huh. Only otther pitchers I like out their are Moss, Baez, and Looper from the non tender list that is as for FA I like Ponson but Im not sold on his skills to be honest, Urbina would be nice as well but we would need to move some contracts out beofre we make a move. It just seems like we have been waiting for the team to move salary forever and nothing is happening but I'm willing to wait a few more days to see what comes of the A-Rod trade god I hope this deal gets done already cause I feel that when this trade gets done then the balls will really start rolling for us and we can finally see what our team willl look like for 04. -

Cosider what the star SS make and then look at what Nomar has done 2 batting titles averages something like 24hr and 100rbi's along with a Avg. over .300 and he has a good glove and great range how is that not worth the money? Of'ers are a dime a dozen and maggs would be easy to replace but having an all-star SS is IMO worth paying a premium. -

I agree 100% Maddux would be a great pick up and would do wonders for our young pitchers Garlan, Cotts, Wright, Rauch.

I sitll stand by what I said in before regarding cedeno, he wouldnt be alll that bad a pick up to play cf he has speed and has been able to produce before when he was in the AL why not take a floater on the guy you never know maybe he could have a really solid year for us it would fill a hole in Cf thats for sure. Maybe we can get the mets to throw in weathers as part of the trade never know

Will kw make an offer in the near future
The_Godfather replied to Dsavmonster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sox will sign Garcia and maybe Lidle as starters and then make a run at Williamson for the bullpen -
I really think this article sums it up real good. I have been a sox fan my whole life and get to about 30 games a year myself. The problem with this team is that they have been overly cocky the last few years taking things for granted thus the underachieving the last few years. I think even with the team we have right now that we will be able to compete in our division and will win. The thing that upsets me though is the fact that were so close to having a really good team and then mangement puts this BS budget out there of 58 million which is a joke when your in a big market such as chicago. The budget that has been put on this team is the reason why KW hasnt been able to do anything when we have 34 million tied up in 4 players thats pretty bad leaving only 24 million to work with for the other 21 guys on the team. We need to hope and pray that reinsdork sells this team soon until then we will always be close but woont win unless he starts to spend some of his money ..... but that will never happen cause we have an owner who is only interested in the bottom line!!

Can the white sox win with buehrle as their ace?
The_Godfather replied to Dsavmonster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think we can win with MB as our ace and E-Lo as the second guy why not all we need is a thrid starter and we will be fine in our rotation. Our bullpen is what concerns me more then anything else and the fact that we still dont have a leadoff hitter. -
your right that is a dream cause it would never happen
-
The thing I see with Garland is that he doesnt attack the hitters the way he should as if he isnt sure of his abillity. I really think Garland can be a good pitcher maybe even a #2 guy in the rotation if he would only go after the hitters instead of trying nibble around the corners. If you ever truly watched him pitch he is at his best when he get after the hitters, forces them to hit his pitch instead of trying to make the perfect pitch all the time. The sooner he says the hell with it and just pitches not nibbles but really just cut it loose then we will all the how good he can be. I hope he gets this through is thick head and starts pitching like a man instead of nibbling around like a little b****.
