    A Racy Poll....

This is a benefit that my oncampus advocacy group is running in conjuction with the Vagina Monologues--all the proceeds will go to the local Safe Shelter (to benefit women and men seeking counseling, emergency shelter, legal services, crisis line, all that stuff). We thought they would be a fun oncampus thing to sell. So, I thought I would do a little pilot group--hopefully they'll sell! Hope this isn't too racy for this board....
  2. But--this is a weak argument on 2 counts... 1.) Muhammad is also a descendent of Abraham, so he could lay claim to the land too. And in the Islamic faith the tricky Lord promised the same land to them too. 2.) To the 2 billion (or however many Christians there are) Jesus came along--and God told them that Jesus was the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covanent. Thus, making the deal he made with Abraham null and void--if you want to think of it that way. So, if you're just going by What the Lord said, well, that's tricky because according to the World Religious traditions, the Almighty either tells many people Many things, or expects us to all get along. Hm, my money's on the second. But, well, that's just me.
  3. Or we could just ban the one with the insults...Really, he's gone a too far many times...
  4. But seriously, answer my question about the Scriptures from the previous page.
  5. Actually that would probably be the polytheists. BRING THEM BACK!!!!
  6. Actually it belonged to the Romans for a while, then the Muslims, then the Christians, really, it's been a hotbed of activity for thousands of years!!!!
  7. So, if you disregard the scripture in regards to how to treat people (ie basic respect and love for others), why should you listen to the scripture when it says that you lay claim to that land? Is some of the Jewish scripture more valid and more divinely inspired than before? Because if the Jewish claim to the land that is Isreal does not come from the Scripture WHERE does it come from? It is, of course, the Holy Land to 3 major world religions, so the historical and religous claim could technically be made for all three of them to share that land...
  8. I'm Eleni, raised in the western suburbs, but I go to school at St. Olaf College in Northfield Minnesota. Senior Psychology and (probably--need to figure that out) Neuroscience major. Sox fan since forever.
  9. I'm not holding my breath--I enjoy life a little to much for that. But I wanted to nail down for him exactly where in the Torah where the Lord's commandments for the Jews were--this way it's easily accessible for him and he really has no excuse for not reading Holiness Code of his people.
  10. Isreal4Ever, I was trying quite hard not to do this. But, since we're talking religion here, let's talk religion. And let's focus in on the Holiness Code of Levitcus 17-26. As, I'm sure you as a Jew know, as God's chosen one's the Jews were told to incoporate their Holiness into their daily lives by their actions and every single aspect of their lives and that is how people would know that they were God's people. Correct me if I have miscued my theology here--it's been a little over a year since I've studied Judiasm, so help me out here. Leviticus 19 is where God outlines the code of conduct (the so-called Holiness Code) with which would set apart the Jews by their conduct from the rest of the world. So, I was hoping you could justify your statements about justifiable killing using your religion. Please note that I have taken the liberty of looking up the verses for you, I hope the link works. Otherwise you have go to crosswalk.com and look it up. I recomed the New Revised Version. If you are going to argue this from a faith and religious standpoint, then please read this. Thanks. http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBibl...nrs&language=en

    Help to the poor

Not to mention all the "great jobs" that go to Mexico. Where they pay less than a living wage. When I lived in Mexico briefly. I worked a daycare/orphanage, and I heard some of the stories of the people there about men having to go to work in the states because there were no jobs in Mexico. Even at the "American" plants. If any of the workers complained their low wages were too low to support themselves and/or their families they were simply let go. It was really sickening... Another big problem, especially in rural Mexico--and spreading to the area where I worked, San Miguel de Allende, was that men would go up north to work and sleep with prostitutes or just other women and get sti's and then go back and then give those to their families. So, you're gettign these small isolated communities with diseases and no resources to treat them. Or else the men leave, send money back for a while, and then stop because they either find it more lucrative to keep it--or worse, they've started a second family. That happened to one woman I worked with so she was 38 and supporting her 6 children on her own (no birth control usage because of the church down there). I also spent a summer working in the Unemployment Office (NEVER EVER AGAIN) and the jobs that Mexicans are "taking away" from Americans are jobs that most middle class Americans would never want to work. They are such menial labor jobs that I would really hate doing them. And you really said it Tex. It just makes me mad--I've seen the kind of work that they have to do on both sides of hte border, and I think that, again, these kinds of feelings against latinos are said out of ignorance out instead of knowledge about what their actual living situations are...
  13. Actual Temp: 10 F Feels like: -2 Brrrrrrr: Mixed drink of the day for Northfield, Hot Cocoa with Peppermint Schnapps (but it's a dry camps, sooooo.....nevermind )

    Peanut Butter

Jiffy creamy--only. In Scotland I actually paid people to ship it to me because I wouldn't eat their peanut butter...Guess I'm a bit of a princess...Oh, and no jelly. Ewwwww, jelly.

    Later y'all

No one can start an inflammatory thread like you. Hope you stop by again soon. Ciao. Peace (and I really mean that...) E
  16. Don't mess with Texas.
  17. Oh a winter grad. I actually don't get up to the cities but a few times a month--and then usually when I get free tickets to something (sports, music event) or to go shopping, or when we go to a temple or something like that. Sad to say I've never done their coffee shop thing...If you're ever there for Labor day you simply must come to Northfield and celebrete the Defeat of Jesse James (imagine that with very thick Minnesota Accent) it is the pride of Minnesota--with a historical re-enactment second to none. The Twin Cities are kinda nice though, safe, cute, I just wish they had better public transport--and major league sports, but ah well.
  18. Actually Rose was from St. Olaf and she would ALWAYS say well back in St. Olaf...So, that's usually what I get when i tell people where I go...It's sort of a pain...But after 3.5 years I've gotten used to it. Did your brother stay in the TC area after graduating?
  19. St. Olaf (please be kind with the Golden Girls jokes).
  20. I've heard of it, but I don't know anyone that goes there. I'm an Ole myself....
  21. Last day of break. I'm going back to school tomorrow! Woowoo! But I'm coming down with something I think...Despite our central heating, my dad has made me chop wood outside in the icky weather...Seriously now, who chops wood these days? One more skill to put on the old resume after graduation I suppose.
  22. Woohoo! They'll never catch me! Never copper, never! Oh, and did someone say Apu's a whore AND he loves puppies....Hmmmm, I like this kid more and more....If only he'll wash my dishes too.
  23. I'm not getting excited this time until I see an official announcement...Plus, I don't think my family and friends will LISTEN to me talk about this prospective trade any more. But I think that getting Williamson would be one of the nicest things Santa's ever brought me.
  24. For your answer on Ponson, look through the old pages...This was a topic from I think Monday or Tuesday--so if you look through there you'll find out the latest on the Sox and Ponson. And I think that Millwood will probably be back with Phillie next year, but that's just me. Either that or he's too rich for our blood...
  25. Or maybe just make friends with some of the gays and lesbians at your school...A couple of years ago at my college there were some chalkings that said stuff like Kill all the f*gs and AIDS cures homosexuality. When your first friend comes out, and your first reaction for them is genuine fear for their safety, I think you'll probably understand more...When you see stuff like that it really makes you think twice before dropping the word gay as a negative adjective.
