That is the coolest thing I have ever heard!!!! Does she need any more friends???
-
It's not clear to me. I'm not going to argue theologically on this point. I've taken too many Christian theology courses and had this argument too many times to try any more. I grew up a Christian, and left the church--but I still think I know the Bible better than most of the kids at my school that use it to condemn people...I guess I would like to only point out here that Jesus made Jewish law null and void by proclaiming himself the new Torah (The Bread of Life--the new Manna). And if anyone can find a statement coming from Jesus on the illegalness regarding homosexuality I will be more convinced of JESUS' standing on the issue. But Paul--well, according to Paul, I am supposed to have my head covered at all time AND never teach, so please forgive me if I am leary of his teaching...

I was thinking stationary or a gift certificate to a movie rental place. I'm not sure how often they get to call overseas--one of my roommates has a boyfriend in the army but he's still in special forces training, so they talk on the phone a lot. If she ever gets to call him the phone bill could be atrocious--so a phone card might be appreciated as well...

That's why I'm so ashamed that I like it--because I OWN and was EXPECTING Exile in Guyville. Ooops. So, I only listen to it when none of my REAL Liz Phair friend are around--and even then very quietly.

Oh, yes...you're right, it's all about the great existential crisis that faces us all in life. Heehee...sorry, I just really wasn't a fan of Kafka--more of a fan of the French existentialist than the German ones. But I still maintain there were some opiates AT LEAST involved in the creation of that. Speaking of which--I really think you would honestly enjoy (and agree with) Soren Kierkegaard. So, maybe put that on your list.

This coming from the kid who's reading the book about the giant cockroach? Toke and pass!
-
No, I haven't read him...sounds intriguing though...Is there one book that stands out--or should I just peruse our library section of his and pick myself? Let me know how the marijuana book turns out...and the Buddhist one too.

My guilty pleasure is the new Liz Phair cd--I was confused when I put my roommate's copy in the cd player. And even more confused when I liked it...

I believe in the original Thread of Doom, I said that you would be more along the lines of Wright--which is why I recommended the dual book. Anyway, yes, you MUST read the Da Vinci code. I think you would probably disagree with that book and not like the theological implications of that either, but, well, that's what life is about: expanding your mind. Wicked grin. And to Apu, I'd be interested to hear about both the Marijuana book--how neuropharm is it? And is the Buddhist book a general overview or is it written by one of the different schools of Buddhism? I'm always on the look out for new religion books.

Currently I am reading: How to Practice: The way to a meaningful life by the Dalai Lama (interesting, but a little bit basic, esp. if you're familiar with the Buddhist traditions--but still a fabulous read) and Orynx and Crake by my favorite author Margaret Atwood And about 10,000 different articles about the pharmacological effects of different drugs on the brain, and a textbook on a similar theme. Yeehaw! I just finished The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown (a really good--but addicting read) The Gollem: What Everyone Should Know About Science by Collins and Pinch (very interesting outsiders perspective on science) I also got 8 Men Out for Christmas--but I am saving that for special times of procrastination...

Hm, guess I won't be double clicking the old mouse anytime soon now..

Aha! I found it! It would appear you are in the clear. Although, Kentucky has some rather backwards and questionable sex laws, in my opinion. (Not this one, but some of the other ones...) Oh, and everyone: note that rape is a felony. http://162.114.4.13/KRS/510-00/060.PDF
-
That's good, but it doesn't give you the age clause, since you're 4 years older it might be different...
-
This site might help... Assuming you're from Kentucky... http://www.kasap.org/laws.asp http://www.siecus.org/policy/states/stat0018.html

Ooops, 21-17 is 4. Damn, guess who failed math...
-
Technically, depending on your state it's only statutory rape if there is more than 4 years difference and the person is above the age of consent. So, it would be VERY difficult to prosecute 17 and 21, because 1, she's over the age of consent (probably) and 2.) it's less than your typical 4 years. Again, if you're serious about persuing the relationship I would check out the sex laws, but that's what it is in MOST states...Just remember people: 4 years of jailbait. Oh, and no, I don't date underage men I just work do a lot of work with the courts and this stuff in MN, so I know a lot of their laws, and most states have similar laws. But I would check out yours Aboz....

Dear sweet innocent one, Roofies...

Hoping that was supposed to be in green.

No fear there's white chocolate--no vanilla though... Read up in the thread to see where the racy comes in.

Yeah, I love gardens, but I can't keep plants alive...My roommate literally froze my last plant to death. It was sub zero and she left it next to the open window. So, I think I'll just have to settle looking at other people's gardens. I love garden's and greenhouses though! Like the Buddha said, If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change. Anyway, that's what (aside from the Soxies) I look forward to most in Spring--the gardens and flowers...

I agree...Makes me rethink if Georgia O'Kieff really was dirty or not....

I was actually just going to take them down and say if anyone wanted to see them to e-mail me and I would just e-mail them a pic... I forget some parents are so--liberal (right word?)...My mom told me to bring her home some--and some for all her friends. And all of my friends mom's wanted some too--so, I guess we're all little hippie children up here. And I forget some people don't talk about this stuff normally. Right, I'll work on tempering my raging liberalism.

Tex, That's why I feel there should be other options included in the draft (and yes, I think women should be included in the draft--if not to the actual front, but then to other areas). Like Winodj mentioned. Civil Service, or humanitarian aid options, something like that. There is so much more to war than fighting--stuff I never even realized until recently. So, to proper, and decently, wage a just war we need people with many talents. If the government asked (even though I'm looking at, hopefully, 4 or 5 more years of school) I would go to serve in the form of humanitarian aid. Or do a desk job here. Again, I don't think it ever will be re-instated, but it would change our society entirely if it were.
