Finals Thread
QUOTE(The Beast @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) I get to my Macroeconomics class today and my instructor says: "There was some confusion about what I said in regards to the minimum course grade I wrote on your last test. If you fail, you still will have that minimum course grade. (I had a B for my minimum course grade.) If you have an A, please just return the sheets of paper to the desk and I will recycle them, you will get an A in the class. For everyone else, the University says I have to supply a final to you, and you must take it, but they never said anything about me not grading them, so if you don't mind, please just drop off all of the tests with whatever answers you filled in. I will give you the grade you deserve, whether that be the minimum course grade OR the grade you will move up to." Spot the professor with tenure (or ABD graduate student)!

Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN
I also think the amount of suffering by the animal counted against Vick here. Dog fighting is vicious, although the end result is the same, I do think there is something qualitatively different between putting an animal down and letting it fight to the death.

Retail Stores, What Survives?
QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) I forgot about them, if Hobby Lobby closed, I'd be really sad. And, just an observation, the most beautiful women shop at craft stores. You know, just sayin'. The most beautiful women WORK there.

Retail Stores, What Survives?
I think that crafting stores (JoAnn's, etc) will also survive because no one wants to order a lot of that stuff online (particularly for clothing and home decorating) because you have no idea of true color.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) You shouldn't give them to us then. We'd all be happier people. I am a lowly graduate student. I have no say in the matter. . .

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:19 AM) It's all about attitude. You will be great. Good luck Wait, students, swap with one or send them to the store, there has to be a teacher's pet just waiting for a suck up moment. Thanks. I just want this nightmare to be over so that I can be ABmotherf***ingD. I try not to encourage teacher's pets. They make me realize how annoying I was in college. Ha.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) How can we give advice without a picture? Is there time to run to the store? Sounds like a nice reason for a new top. I don't have time. Too much to do. Also, my students keep "dropping in" despite me not having office hours. Seriously, I have the worst luck. But I have a nice big scarf I think I will wear over the top. Kind of clashes, but I made the scarf myself so, it will be fine.

Fudge, fudge, fudge, fudge!!!!!! After 3 months of waiting I finally have a meeting with my pre-lims committee today (which I just learned of) and of course (OF COURSE) I am wearing the most inappropriate low cut top (because I figured no one would come in today so I didn't do laundry). CRAP! CRAP! CRAP! Should I wear the clashing cardigan? Hold papers in front of my chest? Of course I also didn't wear a coat because it is unseasonably warm. AGH!

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
My dad's response when I called and told him about this trade: You mean Miguel Cabrera, right? Miguel Cabrera, right? Not Orlando. You mean Miguel, it had to have been Miguel they acquired. Right? No. . . .Oh. I have to go.

Flight of the Concords
I just started watching this (on dvd) and I love it. I love their rivalry with the Aussies and the New Zealand posters in Murray's office (Don't expect too much you'll love it) and their one fan. Thanks for the recommendation gentlemen.

Pet peeves....
People that only talk about work--even at social gatherings. Please, for the love of god, talk about something else. If I wanted to think about work during my time off I--actually, I can't finish that sentence because it is too horrible to contemplate. . .

Movies that were as good as, or better than, the book
QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) Do we have fans of the book here? Which translation did you read? Because the Seamus Heaney translation is nothing short of superb--absolutely thrilling to read. A different translation I read wasn't nearly as good.
