Cubs-Sox WS - Whose fans could survive losing?
Whitewashed in '05 replied to ChiCard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The NATION will be devastated if the cubs made the world series and lost, especially if it was against the White Sox. People would hang themselves. There are some many people rooting for the cubs even if they're not fans it's not even funny. -
The Texas slugfest left a bad taste in my mouth. Start off on the right foot and get these guys.

Umm... at Subway you watch them while they make your food. How can someone not see a knife in their sandwich?

Much love Pablo. I will always remember that stolen base in the ALCS.

Didn't Buehrle mention he didn't see himself pitching for a long time like Maddux and Glavine when his wife had their baby and he got 100 wins? Without pitching for a long time he won't be considered among other stats. He will end up a White Sox great though when it's all said and done, especially if he is part of another series team.

Rumor: Sox Interested in Daniel Cabrera
Whitewashed in '05 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) Cooper is the best in the business of taking a pitcher who has lots of physical talent and getting the most of him. Agreed, but don't you think it's foolish to assume the "coop will fix him mentality?" Nothing is guaranteed. He might turn him into a good pitcher, he might stay the same. -
Rumor: Sox Interested in Daniel Cabrera
Whitewashed in '05 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wouldn't give up much for him. He's got lots of talent yes, but this is his 5th full season and with his talent still hasn't put it together. He didn't work out under Mazzone so it would be more challenging for coop. Last season he gave up 25 homers and has 15 this year. Imagine him at the cell with his control problems... not good. If they try working out his problems with the team that could also hurt us even though Contreras hasn't done much himself. Yes there is upside to Cabrera, but everyone shouldn't believe he will get here and dominate right away if he's successful at all. If KW can get him for cheap do it. -

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) You dont need three hundred million to do two chicks at the same time. Look at my cousin man... He's broke, don't do s***. I'd make sure my parents, brother and sisters and nieces and nephews had everything they needed. I would invest some of it. I'd go on a NICE vacation. I'd continue going to school and working though.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) I swear, if Minny pulls out another 1-run victory, I will be so pissed. Right now, 2-2 in the 5th. God I hate the Twins. Supremely untalented except for a few spots, but they never suck and are never going to be in the dumps with the scouting they have and the organizational methods. Lol these guys just won't go away. They always play the game right, but their starting pitching has been so been so surprising thus far. I wouldn't have ever thought their young starters would do this good this early.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) I think the bigger question is what to do with John Danks. He's the team's best pitcher, and with a narrow lead in the division, the Sox need him to continue pitching well. However, his most innings pitched in a season is 156 in 2005, and he only pitched 139 and 140 innings the last two years. Following SI's Tom Verducci's " Year After Effect" Danks should only pitch a maximum of 30 innings over his career high (and being conservative on this is a good thing). As the #3 in the rotation after the All Star break, Danks would be on schedule for 14 more starts and about 84 more innings (added to his 114.2 season total). If the Sox make the postseason, those innings would also be a factor. Right now, two of our veteran "innings eaters" are scheduled to pitch the least innings the rest of the way, which is great based on this season's performance but not great based on burning out the Sox's young arms. The question, then, is what to do with him for the rest of the season? With 6 off days, the Sox could skip his spot a few times. Masset could make some spot starts (thankfully the bullpen is low on innings relative to the rest of the league). When rosters expand later this season, some starts could be made by one of our AAA guys. While the Sox have limited Danks' innings pitched by pulling him earlier than other pitchers, I think the team will need to do more starting right after the AS break to make sure he's healthy and effective for the rest of this season, the postseason, and beyond. EDIT: fixed link This is a big concern for us. A few people mentioned on here getting a good 6 game lead to call Broadway up and give Danks some rest. If we don't get a lead like that, it can tough on us. Of course this is considering Javy and Contreras don't continue pitching like they have or we won't be in first for long. Detroit's pitching he been better and who knows how long those young guys over in Minn hold up.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 12:11 AM) When he gets hurt in a few weeks (if not sooner) you will. It was a risk worth taking for the Cubs with the package they were able to pull this off for, but Harden has made Mark Prior look like a tough guy during the vast majority of his career. Lol I wouldn't go that far, but Harden does get injured every year. Prior and Pavano are about as bad as it gets... throw Hampton on that list too...

Will he pull an Aaron Small?? Probably not...

A Conversation with Jack McDowell
Whitewashed in '05 replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) Good conversation article. That actually could be a good new niche in the world of blogs, etc. A person travels around and interviews some sports greats and writes it in that type of tone. I'd love a discussion of pitch counts. Jack McDowell classifies as an expert and I trust him on it. He said Halladay is not his hero but the guy who "lets him" pitch deep. I mean last night watching the Royals game you could just feel that Greinke and Mark "knew" they were about done because of the pitch counts. In the eighth inning, Mark should have dug deep and finished the shutout. Same with Greinke going 9. But because of some fantasy pitch count idea, both guys knew they were finished. In a mid summer night game, Mark B should have pitched a shutout last night. Pitch counts and the idea behind pitch counts has negatively affected the game. Kudos to you and Jack for pointing it out! You should email your quote to sporting news and SI and Hawk and DJ and see if it gets some play. I'd love to hear Hawk, DJ discuss it! That's a good idea. At minimum I would like to hear what Hawk and DJ have to say. You should do it Pratt. -

I echo everyone elses statements. This is really a great piece. I really enjoyed it. You're good at what you do. -
KW is not the type to trade a player at his lowest value. Rarely will you see him eat anyones contract or trade them for nothing. I hope Paulie snaps of his season long funk because we will need him in the second half.
-
OC has always done that though even before he came to the sox. He's always tried to distract the pitcher while on the basepaths.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Caused a little bit of friction in the booth between Hawk and Feisty, too. This team has such an edge in good ways and bad, you would think Billy Martin was steering this ship. Seems to be working for now, though. I didn't catch the incident. What were hawk and dj arguing about?

Don't worry about taking the lead guys, fighting is more important.
