Dayán Viciedo BP Session
He looked good I guess? Most minor league players can look good taking measly BP. Sure, he some line drives as you could see from the reverse angle, but go by some high school playing fields and guys are raking. I won't be ready to make any judgment about his readiness for the Majors until I see him live in ST against real pitchers. I am sure Borchard put on quite the show during BP and look where it got him.

QUOTE (The Bones @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) Why is Pat Summitt on my tv when I should be watching Illinois vs. Wisconsin? Man, this is annoying. No one cares about women's basketball. I am sorry, good for Summitt, but who cares, it's still women's basketball. Gimme the Illinois game.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) Besides the obvious rivalry, why so imporant. Mizzou basically clinched a tourney spot with that win tonight. It's all about the rivalry IMO. MU always has taken a backseat to KU and now we are in position to actually be better than them for the first time in awhile. But, if OU happens to be No. 1 on March 4, that could very well be the biggest game in recent memory at home.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) Possibly the best win in my 4 years. I think Mizzou's plan is to make the opponents do retarded things. Texas looked bad. Mizzou didn't play their best though so it's ok. I'll take the great win. The Tigers would really have to s*** themselves down the stretch to miss the tourney now. A win against Iowa State on Saturday, and the game against KU becomes one of the biggest games in recent memory, at least my three years at Mizzou. I will be more pumped for this game than any other game.

Per Rivals, Michael Buchanan (4-star DE from Homewood-Flossmoor) picks Illinois. He and Justin Green help offset the loss of Drummond and Carradine. Let's hope Appelton stays with Illinois, too.

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) Good get for ILL and a loss for OSU, but its very strange that they would want to make him a RB, almost every recruiting site in the country has him as a DB and thats what every other school was recruiting him for. As much as kids will be kids, he hurt our recruiting by waiting till the 24th hour to decide he wants to get pounded as a RB. Brings us down to 25 players for this class. Im hoping for Brown tomorrow to make it a positive week. I'll bet it ends up one of those "you can choose where you want to play" deals that ends up with him as a CB sooner than later. It's just Zook's pitch to get him, but when he realizes that there are three young backs better than him, he either transfers or switches back to a DB.

Viciedo loses weight + leadoff hitter news
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) So if Lillibridge is leading off, what position would he be playing? Second base probably. We might see a Ownes/Anderson platoon in CF (BA-lefties, JO-righties) and a Getz/Lillibridge platoon at 2b (Getz-righties, Lillibridge-lefties). Might work. But I would still feel better with one more veteran hitter in this lineup or at least some CF competition not named Wise.

You know what I hate?
More Gym Hates for Me: --I hate people who on the indoor track at a gym walk in the running lane. Is it that hard to move to the inner lane?!?! --Also, the people who jog real slowly in the running because they thing they are gong fast, just move over to the jogging lane. --People who flex and stare at themselves in the mirrors at the gym in front of everyone --People who still use gay for anything that is stupid (I am not gay, but that just annoys me) --People who walk god ass slow to class with two or three other slow walkers and block me from walking around them --People who don't stop at stop signs in heavily trafficked areas. For me on my bike when I go to and from class, people need to look out for us bikers at stop signs. I could go on and on...

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) Pretty much sums it up. I also read that Michael Buchanan is supposed to make a decision tonight? Landing him would more than erase the sting of losing out on Drummond. I also heard that Je'Ron Stokes' visit went very well. So we shall see. I hate the last couple weeks leading up to signing day. It's really exciting and at the same times drives you insanely mad. Buchanan would be a great addition, he is also a pretty smart kid (football wise) so he may end up being better than Drummond who despite a ton of talent has a melon for a head. You never know how those kids turn out. Look at Martez Wilson, a great talent, but he can't get the mental game and isn't effective. Could be the same for Drummond.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) Its easy to get bored/sick of eating salad all the time, so what else is pretty good and relatively healthy to grab? Fruit, any fruit, eat it up because it's good for you and generally tastes good. Almonds are also good and healthy. They give you the healthy fats like fish. Cottage Cheese, some hate it, I enjoy it. Skim Milk, same as above. Honey Turkey: This I have found to be the best food ever, low in calories, but high in protein. Tastes amazing and its great for you. Cliff Bars: There are plenty of flavors and they have lots of vitamins and good source of protein. Also, they fill you up well. Turkey Burgers: Healthy again because they are lean and heavy in protein. I usually eat two without buns for dinner and use mustard on them, tastes great to me.

Organizational Rankings
I'd agree more with Callis here. He generally is skeptical of White Sox prospects, rightfully so with our history, so if he gives us a 14 rating, I believe we are average or a little above-average.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) Unfortunately Turner and Mullens have both been projected in the first round. Agreed. Alot of it is the offense and the fact that OSU doesnt have a PG on the roster though. Matta's defense doesnt seem to fit his team and the offensive sets are very perimeter oriented. But also for Mullens, if he stays for another year, which seems likely now, he should have a great sophomore year. Look at Mike Tisdale, he was worthless his freshman year and look what year two has brought. Add to the fact that Mullens has more natural talent and he could explode in year two.

Mullens is pretty useless, but Buford and Turner are great wings.

Surprised ESPN has not made a mention of McCamey and Turner being high school teammates, same year, too.

The Workout Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) For weights as well its good to do alot of different variations so that you can "confuse" your muscles instead of getting into a rut. Also for cardio I like to mix in swimming because I feel that it really helps offset the running I do. I have heard swimming is a dynamite workout, but 1) I suck at swimming and 2) I've never been a water person. I wish I was though, cause then I would try some triathlons.

The Workout Thread
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Actually I am in the best shape since college right now. I have given up lifting for the most part and concentrate on cardio and using pushups and dips as a replacement for lifting. Its more about time management now. My cardio workout takes a lot of time now, and I don't have the time to spend lifting. I workout now 6 days a week and its primarily to keep healthy and balance my blood sugar. As a diabetic who doesn't want to be on insulin, this cardio workout keeps my sugars in check. Cardio at night MWF 5 mile run that I run at a 7 to 7 1/2 mnute mile pace. T Th Sat 30 minute fartlek run ( pyramid workout ) T Th Sat swim for 10 minutes ( alternate laps of freestyle, breast, and backstroke ) MWF 3 sets of 25 crunches ( 75 total) T Th Sat 3 sets of 50 crunches ( 150 total ). First set is standard, then on my right side, and on my left. Morning routine 90 push ups ( 3 sets of 30 ( first set is normal, 2nd set is feet elevated, 3rd set is triangle. ) 40 dips using a chair Fartleks are awesome. No matter how you feel you can get a good workout in. If you feel good, push it, if you don't lay back a little. Where do you do yours? I go to a big park by my house, I have also heard golf courses are good. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Do you change up your routines a bunch? I can see some serious risk of a plateau if you work out 7 days a week and just repeat weeks over and over. I've found you have to confuse your muscle groups every week to get consistent results. This includes different ways of doing cardio other than running. I train for half-marathons, so I need the running to get better for that. However, I do ride my bike around campus daily which can accumulate to two miles, i know its not really the same, but I do get some variation there. I also change up my running though mixing in speed workouts, distance runs, easy days and so on.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 01:58 AM) How long have you been working out 7 days a week? Since high school, I did cross country and we would run 6 days a week then rest on Sundays. Then on Sundays, I would do a light lift. I take days off though periodically, probably one every three weeks.

The Workout Thread
Thought this could be interesting... I lift Monday/Wednesday/Friday (all upperbody) I run Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday/Sunday (about 5-8 miles each run) I also do 1/2-1 mile of warmup jogging before I lift. Lifting wise I do: Bench Press Wrist Curls Bicep Curls 2 back exercises (names escape me) 2 tricep exercises (names escape me) one more chest one more bicep 2 shoulder exercises All together, my lifts take about 45-60 minutes depending on equipment availability. I sometimes when I feel like lightly lift my legs, but with all my running, I don't want to do anything too rigorous. So what are you guys doing?
