Some interesting Sox related notes...
That is good news for the Sox that Cabrera is willing to play second. Maybe some team beyond the 15th pick will try and sign him for 2b. Doubtful though. Maybe the Sox should have some internal discussions about trading Brent Lillibridge for Albert Pujols, that way another crazy rumor would start. Seriously, there was no reason the Sox would trade a young pitcher making 400K who just won 17 games for a second baseman making $8 million when that position is our strongest.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) If OU beats Florida, then you have to give them the title. They have gone apes*** on a few very solid teams like TCU, Texas Tech, Mizzou etc. Don't forget Cincy and Ok State. Both teams were very good this year. They would kill Utah IMO. Alabama was overrated to begin with. When you have a QB who only throws 7 TDs all year, something is up.

Rays deal looks like a steal compared to this.

Nothing for the Illini to hang their heads on, Michigan is a good team and its hard to win on the road in the Big Ten.

Some good Big Ten basketball being played right now. Illinois/Michigan has been a great game thus far.

Where does Graham Harrell rank among all-time college QBs? Granted, he played in a terrific system, but I would still say top 10 all-time based on three amazing years starting.

Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed
I think this guy is full of it, it makes no sense. If we wanted Roberts and to sign him to an extension, we would just sign Hudson for a lesser price and not have to give up Floyd. But we also are in a payroll crunch, so adding a $10+ million player at second base would be fiscally irresponsible. If that money were available, spend it on pitching not a second baseman, especially because we plenty of ML ready options and prospects.

Andruw Jones to the Sox??
This young pitching better be s***, or else. Jones has been horrific the last two seasons, worst than any option we could currently throw out there. He was probably a roider and will never see his career get back. I think he is too expensive for the Sox even with his restructured deal because the upside is not that high.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) Summerall and Baldinger...OMG. Ugh. But it will pretty cool to watch Harrell break some collegiate records today, including most TD passes. Two away from beating Colt Brennan's 131.

Scott Merkin's 2009 projected lineup
And that my folks is an 81-win team at best. There is no way the bottom two of our rotation as currently constructed will allow us to be anything more. I am not pessimistic, just a realist basing off last year's numbers from the two. Marquez sucked in AAA and Richard sucked in the majors. Expecting anything more than 8-10 wins and a 5.00 ERA is foolish.

QUOTE (Cali @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) For you HIMYM fans, NPH is hosting SNL on January 10th. That's a lot of initials.... He should be pretty good, he's got a theater background and people with those usually do pretty well on the show Yeah that should be good. I know a lot of his reactions and such in the show are improvised, so you know he is good on his feet. He could be very funny. And in general, HIMYM is hilarious.

This could be the game to kick start Legion's season. Regardless of the outcome, he has been huge tonight, played solid D and his confidence seems to be rising.

This game kinda reminds me of the 06 Tourney game against Washington. Illinois plays them close, but a huge free throw disparity kicks the game in favor of the other team. There is no team that drives to the hoop so much more than the other to warrant 20+ more free throws.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Worst call I've ever seen. Davis did hit his hand, so the call was warranted, but the entire game Illinois could have had a lot more FT calls.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) what a suprise. the home big ten team gets foul called with 1 second left. Purdue shooting 20+ more free throws than Illinois is ridiculous.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) I really do. ISU has two players better than any player on Illinois. Osiris would be hands down the best player on that court. I also think ISU is more athletic than Illinois. The difference in my eyes would be the size. If ISU could get decent rebounding, I think they would win in a close one between the two teams. The difference would be Osiris and Oguchi's rebounding. Illinois State hasn't played anybody this year so while they may be undefeated, it's a bit deceiving. Illinois' depth would give the Illini the win IMO.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) Is that due to their talent, or their competition? Even last year in all their suckiness they were a very good defensive team. Weber teaches defense as well as any coach in the country. Maybe partially competition, but a lot is their coaching and solid team defense. They held Mizzou, a top 10 scoring team in the country, to 59 points. There is no doubt you guys are Illinois haters, but defensively they are one of the best in the country, and its hard to argue against that. Currently, they are 11th in the country, last year 19th, the year before 4th, the year before 11th. Always a top defensive team.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) Purdue by 15+ Illinois is one of the top 10 defensive teams in the country, they won't get blown out. They keep this one close, but lose in the waning minutes.

Mizzou/NU was an ugly ugly game, but glad Mizzou won. They played awful and still won, so I guess that's good, but they will lose a lot next year and rely on a true sophomore QB who has never taken a meaningful snap.
