  1. I agree with most here: carpet = no shoes. Anything else shoes are acceptable, so as long as you don't got mud on them.
  2. I would really like to sign Jerry Hairston Jr. as a utility player. He has speed, athletic enough to play a lot of positions, seems like a good teammate and wouldn't cost much.
  3. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 02:05 AM) Illinois is impressing me this year. The game today looks like it was miserable, but they still found a way to win. I'm not sure last year's team could have done that. They probably would have been 4-2 or 5-1 right now. The Clemson game will be big for this team... Btw, Mike Davis and Mike Tisdale are gonna be a force in 2 years. When those guys are seniors in the '10-'11 season, this Illinois team is gonna be ridiculously good. PG-McCamey/Richarson SG-Legion/Head SF-Paul/Richmond PF-Davis/Griffey/Cole C-Tisdale/Leonard/Simpson A lineup where two 5* prospects don't start is pretty good. When Richmond comes in, I could see Illinois going 3 guards, a wing and a big. It will be nice to have this team in two years. Final Four caliber.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) It isn't even worth arguing about. People are under the impression acquiring Taveras will change the makeup of the offense, which couldn't be farther from the truth. In reality, your going to get a player that doesn't get on base enough to bat at the top of the lineup, has no power into the gaps, and is basically a gimmick hitter. I'm not sure if people just haven't watched this team the last 3 years, but it's an awful situational hitting team. They are built for the long ball, and adding Taveras isn't going to change that, at all. There are posters that seemingly can't wait to watch Taveras hustle out an infield single, and steal second. Then what? How often do the Sox string hits together? Really? It's not how this offense is designed to operate, and Taveras isn't going to change that. Well, the point of Taveras being speedy is that he gets on base with, then can steal second and/or third. So he really only needs one hit to score, which really isn't stringing hits together. Our second hitter and Quentin would be able to hopefully get one hit to knock him in. The point of speed is you only need one hit after the speed player to score, sometimes none because their speed causes wild pitches, errors on pickoffs and such.
  5. QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Means nothing. Timo Perez has a career .350/.458/.550 in 20 AB in Miller Park. Should the Brewers go after him? I hope you saw the subtle sarcasm.
  6. BTW, Taveras in U.S. Cellular Field since 2005: 21 at-bats, .333 BA, .417 OBP, 1.036 OPS and 9 SBs to 0 CSs. Granted limited at-bats, but maybe he likes the Cell.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) Willy T is fine if he can be had for cheap, trade-wise. But what he is, is Jerry Owens with a better arm. So the cheap part better be real cheap. He's also better in CF because he has been playing it longer, a better overall hitter (you can't deny his .280+ career batting average in the majors, something Owens probably can't do), faster on the basepaths and a better base stealer. Compaing Ownes to Taveras is silly. Taveras has proven to be a solid major leaguer player, a terrific one at points while Owens hasn't done squat.
  8. Any news on his status? His this the week his visa stuff will be corrected? I just want him signed, sealed and delivered already.
  9. This is hilarious and sad at the same time. Why are you carrying a loaded gun Plax? It amazes me how stupid multimillion dollar athletes are. Just don't carry a gun, wow, is that so hard.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) Brandon Paul vs. Jereme Richmond tonight in Waukegan. I'll write an informative, lengthy report when I get back. Saw them both play yesterday. Paul had 21 and fouled out in the 4th as Warren won in OT. He put the Devils on his back in the 4th, hitting three straight 3's, but oh my, does he have a lot of work to do on defense. Waukegan is VERY good. Their defense at the guard position is swarming and Richmond sits in the lane and rebounds and blocks shots. After 1 game, it looks like Richmond has grown up and matured since last year. Hopefully it lasts. That should be a great game. Paul is just a terrific combination of offense and athleticism. You must have saw Paul on a bad night because apparently he is a great on-ball defender. (This is from Rivals who voted him the top defender on the '09 Big Ten recruits). Richmond never really has dominant games, but rather dominant moments. I saw him last year and could tell he was going to be a great player, but he wasn't a top 10 player in the country. I wouldn't be surprised to see a anyything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better type game tonight. Richmond playing a friend might just burst out. 25+ for both. It is also amazing how strong the surburban conferenecs have gotten, especially the CSL (north and south). The talent there is just as good as the city schools and that really isn't an exaggeration when you have guys like Richmond, Cooley, Nik Garcia, Alex Rossi, Dragovich (sp? from GBN) and I know I am missing a few too.
  11. QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) I know that's the title of the article, but did Ozzie actually say he won't be missed? From the quotes provided at that link Ozzie seemed a tad more diplomatic than that Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing. That is a horrible headline because it's misleading. Nothing in that article says that OG is happy there is no more Swish. Thanks Yahoo for skewing this story to make it seem like Ozzie is a jerk.
  12. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) Can you imagine that secret being kept? That's my reason for this not being such a huge conspiracy, maybe a few people involved but not a ton of people. Someone would have cracked after all these years, on their death bed, looking for attention, moral feelings, just wanted to get it out, something. But if this was a huge conspiracy with many people involved someone would have cracked. We have to wait like 20 more years before some classified documents pertaining to the JFK assassination become available right?
  13. Here is the supposed wink photo: I dunno about this proving or even suggesting a conspiracy. If there is a better photo, please someone post it. But sometimes people get caught on the camera weird, I find it hard to believe that this is an indication of anything.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) I got news for you...the Angels could probably afford both Tex and Sabathia. They'll jump on Sabathia and than see what ends up going on with Tex and decide whether they'll get him or not. The Angels are going to be set up for awhile if they sign CC. Him, Lackey, Santana, Saunders and Weaver, that is the best 1-5 rotation in baseball. They get an Ace with CC and then have three #2s with Lackey, Santana and Saunders. And Weaver is going to continue to get better. Plus, they always have a solid farm system.

QUOTE (TCQ @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) To put on display his acting chops, or lack thereof... stay in the pool michael. I am not sure you can judge anyone's acting by two seconds. Granted, he probably isn't a great actor just based on how he talks with the media, he just isn't very exciting or emotional, but he had a two second, barely. I hate that I have to wait six months at least for a new season. Despite the show maybe slipping a bit this season (I still thought it was great), I miss that show so much when it's not on. Probably going to have to watch all five seasons a couple times until next season.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) If Poreda can develop a plus change he will be a very good starter. Thats really the key to his development and i think the org knows it. Beckham may just be up in the bigs earlier than most thought. I think Beckham is going to make the second base spot a very difficult decision this spring. I wouldn't be surprised to see him outperform Nix and Getz. There is no denying that he is just a terrific ball player who is just knows how to play the game. While I think his ceiling is pretty high for all the draftees in '08, he probably has the highest floor, too.
  17. I watched JFK yesterday, so this is obvious going to be bit of a different perspective since Stone's movie so inbred in my mind right now, though I have seen the movie a few times. I believe there were others, but unlike the movie's premise, I don't think the involvement went that high up into the government with the likes of LBJ being involved. I think it was mob motivated and some other people affiliated with the mob were used in the shooting.

I think Tommie Harris is there, as well as Nathan Vasher.
  19. QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) I don't get this at all. Why would KW trade Dye, who is still very productive, for a pitcher that has only had an ERA below 5 once in his career and only a 1.36 K:BB ratio? Last year was the best season of his career by far, and he still only had a 4.42 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 1.40 K:BB. He is a below average pitcher and definitely shouldn't be the main focus of a Jermaine Dye deal. One year left on his deal, getting worse in all aspects of the game right now. No doubt he is a productive player, but an opportunity to get some more young pitching is something that you really can't pass up. But this is all speculation that Jackson is at the center of this deal, let's wait till we find out who they get (or if the deal even goes down) before we ask why trade Dye. Also, the $10 million that Dye makes could be turned into some other valuable chips.
  20. Let's just make sure he gets on a diet program fast. With his new contract, he should be hitting up the gym daily and be working with a nutritionist. I really hope he turns out like Miggy C. Wow, could you imagine if he turns out to be the truth, him, CQ and Beckham as 2-3-4, wow. I am just very excited where this organization is going. By 2011 (yes very far, but we could look like this): CF-Danks (GG, .280, 12-15 HRs with 20-30 SBs) 2b-Beckham (.300, 25 HR) LF-CQ (.300, 40 HR, 100 RBIs) 3B-Viciedo (.280, 30 HR, 100 RBIs as a 23-year old) SS-Alexei (.300, 25 HR, 90-100 RBI) 1b-Allen (.265, 25-35 HR) DH-Fields (.265, 20-25 HR) *He and Allen could be switched RF-Shelby (.280, 15-20 HR, 30 SB) C-Armstrong (.250, 15 HR, GG or close to it defense) And by then, we will probably have signed another Cuban or two. I am just very excited to see where this organization is headed. That order has some serious power with lots of high OBP guys and guys who are above average speed wise for their positions minus CQ, but he still runs fine. There are no guys there with 50 SB potential likely, but Danks and Shelby could certainly hit 30. Alexei, Beckham and CQ could be 15+ guys and Allen/Fields could chip in 10 ish. I truly believe Brandon Allen is the most underrated Sox prospect — at least on the Soxtalk, he has the potential to be Ryan Howard. Probably won't reach 50 HR like him, but in his prime, 40 HR is something he certainly could hit.
  21. sweet. very excited bout this.
  22. The Bulls are so frustrating to watch. You have a terrificly talented star player and then just bad, stupid players around him. Aaron Gray has the worst hands from a big man I have ever seen. Tyrus Thomas would rather shoot 15-footers than bang down low. Hughes is just selfish and a bad influence, Sefolosha just doesn't know what basketball is. Deng, Gordon, Noah are at least solid because Deng is smart, Gordon can get hot and Noah always gives 100%. But the rest of the players are just crap and the aforementioned solid guys tend to suck a lot too. Paxson has done a horrible job of building a team; he got lucky with Rose falling into his lap. Without him, I doubt we have a win right now. I am all for Pax being done after this year, he has brought just a horrible mix of talent (and I use that word liberally) to Chicago.
  23. Seriously, the Bulls will never be ready to be a playoff contender unless they acquire a legit big. And Larry Hughes should honestly not be out there, he is so selfish and well sucks.
  24. Holy heck this game looks exciting. I can't watch but 9 goals in the first two periods. I know 1-0 type games are classic hockey, but these are the type of games that are just fun to watch. Versteeg is a keeper.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) That same article by Rogers mentioned that the Sox aren't guaranteed to offer arbitration to OC. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6923159.story Wow that would be stupid. If he accepts, you have a one-year stopgap for Beckham to be ready. Then you move Alexei to SS or keep him at 2nd and let Beckham play SS. If he decline, you get two first round picks. What's the problem? This better not be the Sox being cheap and not wanting to spend $3 million on two more draft picks.
