  1. Danks was 0-5, but still had a SB and threw out a runner. They would be an awfully fun combo at the top of the order for the next few years.
  2. He has had 10 SBs as a career high, so I while he may have solid range at second base, I am not sure he quite the gazelle out in CF that many teams want like Sizemore and such. Though, putting up a .800 OPS in CF at less than $10 million per season would be a good contract number. I just don't understand messing with a guy who is already at the top of his game at 2b.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) KW flat out states that Swisher won't play CF next season. Please KW, don't trade for Luis Castillo or Julio Lugo. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7236960.story I am glad that Swisher won't be in CF, but what happens if Thome is traded and PK is DH and Swisher is 1st. But I think its clear one of those three is gone, not necessarily just PK or Swish.
  4. Someone completely off the radar is my guess will be the big move. Figgins will be secondary IMO, if at all. Last year's signature moves were Q and Alexei and no body in their right mind would have guessed that before the off-season. KW's signature move may be a seemingly nothing move prior to ST, but after the year, it could be big. I am going to say some Ryan Ludwick type who has been a solid major leaguer, then KW gets him cheap and he produces. I just feel we will have the big move (like Swish last year), the secondary moves (Dotel/Linebrink) and then the signature move (Q and Alexei).
  5. Blackhawks have looked excellent tonight even though they are playing Colorado. The Hawks had a stretch of maybe 90 seconds where they controlled the puck in Colorado' zone — not letting the Avs touch the puck at all — and they weren't even on a power play. This team is just so solid.
  6. I believe Poreda was a TE in football.
  7. In the third picture, he looks so much like John. I really hope he becomes our CF and I see him as a Grady Sizemore-lite player.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 06:50 AM) My questions to KW would be: If Josh Fields was so injured that it caused him not to be able to perform as anything but a mediocre minor leaguer why was he called up to the major leagues to take Crede's place when he was injured? Why was he given a spot on the postseason roster? Why wasn't he shut down in May or June? I think a lot of this is just rhetoric trying to make fellow GMs believe KW is not desperate for a 3B. Fields has to be option C or D at best. Exactly. If you come and say we are in the market for a third baseman, blah blah blah, then you lose all leverage. Teams that you might trade with know that you are desperate for a 3rd baseman and can hold out until you budge and agents whose clients you may be interested in can hold out for more money. KW is just playing the game of being GM, you say you like your team so no one's feelings are hurt and you keep your leverage. If you ever believe KW is content, then you need to get your head examined, he is always trying to improve the club.
  9. So glad Hall's option was decline. I really hope they don't rework a deal and sign him or something. Everytime he got a hit, it seemed it was a bloop or broken bat. I would like to go more defensive and faster (that won't be hard) from our backup.
  10. Going to see Obama tonight as he will speak at the University of Missouri at 9:30 p.m. It's crazy already out there with all the trucks and volunteers working and putting up stages. This is my first time posting in the politics thread and I don't really follow politics too much, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I extremely excited, especially since I voted for him. Should be an exciting night, even if I do have to wait outside to hear him speak for 3-4 hours.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) one of my favorite quotes of all time comes from that movie girl: Do you believe in God? Prefontaine: I believe in myself. I don't subscribe to it, but I just love that quote so damn much. Just outstanding. Some of other great Pre quotes: "I'm going to work so that it's a pure guts race at the end, and if it is, I am the only one who can win it." "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." "A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more." Such a stud who by runner standards did not have the physical gifts of a great distance runner. But no one was more dedicated to the sport and no one hated losing more. When he practiced, he gave a 100% every time, no practice was considered an off-day for him. Man he really inspires me to run. Without Limits is just a amazingly inspirational running movie. Every time I watch it, I want to go run a 5k or something.

Yesterday's episode was great, although the show is moving slow this season, I really am enjoying the enhanced storylines. Personally, this season has been my favorite, I think the episodes have been great and the humor has been there as well. But the writing in my opinion has been the best this season.
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) It was on last night, and usually gets me. "October Sky" Oh yeah great movie. Didn't cry during it, but that is just one fantastic movie.
  14. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) It's hard not to like him. Seems like a great guy. Yeah, once he gets up with the big club, I have a feeling he will become the most popular jersey seller, or at least in the top four with Q, MB and Danks in a couple years.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) 38 year old DH's making $16 million a year usually don't have much of a market value. 1B who run about as fast full speed as Manny Ramirez when he was dogging in with the Red Sox, and is coming off a bad year and is owed $24 million usually don't have much of a market. Dye, I could see a market for, but he's only signed for one more year plus an option at a nice chunk of change. He's also slowing defensively, and probably will be a DH soon, no matter how much Hawk and DJ praised his glove in 2008. BTW, I don't think this is any inside info Levine is preaching, just what he believes. yeah, I mean who wouldn't want Brian Roberts. He is only one of the best players in the game. Anyone here could have told you the sox would explore trading Swish, Vaz, Thome, JD, Konerko. I don't believe anything right now we hear is truly inside information (maybe Stoney though) because the real stuff doesn't start until after the WS.
  16. If anyone has seen the movie Without Limits (about runner Steve Prefontaine), the end gets me every time I watch the movie. Just a great movie if you enjoy running.
  17. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) It wouldn't exactly be a surprise or shocking if it is the most expected move. Shocking would be a trade of one of our team core like Buerhle, Konerko, Thome, or Dye. I would only consider Buehrle part of the team core. IMO, the core is guys who are young and will be used to build the ball club for the next 5 years. Only MB is that, Konerko, Thome and Dye should all be making their exits from the organization in the next two years.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) Give me Prison Break on Monday over any of those shows. I watched a little of Worst Week, and while it's basically a cheap version of Meet the Parents, the main girl on that show is smoking. BTW, did you Friday Night Lights fans know that Minka Kelly is dating Jeter? Prison Break, although I watch every week religiously, is getting...well bad. Too many convoluted plotlines and the show seems like it just keeps getting more crazy. Sadly, I will not be able not to watch (weird negative construction there), but I am really want to just turn it off sometimes. But Mondays are perfect for me thought, HIMYM at 7:30 then PB.
  19. Anyone know the music they played during the player introductions, especially the Phillies? I loved the song, but have no idea what it is called or if its even a song.
  20. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) WOW! Derrick Rose! He has looked awesome the past few games. There is no reason he shouldn't start right away. He and Ben Gordon can be a terrific offensive combination together, however, they will probably get scored upon at will. That's the one thing about he and Gordon playing together, both are 6-3 and bad defensively, so it's not an ideal combination. Even if the Bulls are a so-so team, it is going to be awesome to watch Rose mature into a top PG.
  21. QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) Two Sox pitchers got lit up like Christmas trees on Tuesday. - Harrell went 1 2/3 and gave up 6 runs. - Rodriguez went 1 1/3 and gave up 5 runs. On the other hand, Poreda pitched one hitless inning and struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. I still like Harrell a lot, but Poreda is really pitching himself into consideration for a rotation spot this year. I mean he hasn't given up a run in the AFL, striking out more than a hitter per inning. The walks aren't bad, though he has given up some hits, they could very well be broken bats or seeing eye singles. But still his WHIP is pretty good. I really think it's going to be JD, Floyd, MB, Vaz and then the winner of Richard/Poreda.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) A healthy Lucy would be a huge defensive improvement over Hall or AJ. He has an injury-shortened season this year (threw out 4 of 9 attempted base stealers), but in 2007 he threw out 39%, 45% after his first couple weeks. He's also got some speed. His bat was always the question, but Hall has spent 2 seasons being a substandard hitter anyway. The real question now is his health. If anyone has any info on his injury rehab and expected return, I'd love to see it. I just can't picture him healthy after the knee injury this year. It seems much more reasonable that he will be a backup candidate mid 2009 or 2010 for the start of the season. I don't know what to make of his injury (positive or negative) that we haven't heard anything about his rehab. But the way he was playing before injury, he was looking like the perfect cheap backup. Good D, can hit a little and can even pinch run for AJ in a big situation.
  23. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) As for Cole...the 3 games I've seen him catch so far he really left a lot to be desired defensively IMO. He had a number of PBs, dropped a pretty easy popup and his arm didn't appear to be all that strong. Granted...baserunners were gettin' huge jumps. But he's been hittin' the crap outta the ball lately. That dinger he hit in Surprise the other night was a MONSTER shot...Thomesque. Regardless of what happens with him defensively, if he keeps hitting, especially bombs as a lefty, he has some value. Whether a team wants to make him a 1b, leave him at catcher or whatever, if he keeps hitting, he should be at worst a bench player. Let's just hope he is a late developer and his hitting ability is legit.
  24. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) You're not going to be good with just one plus pitch. Poreda needs at to work on his secondary stuff or he's in the pen. Vaz > Garland huh? I'll take Garland. Poreda throws a slider and changeup and they are both average pitches. He can start in the majors with his repetoire because his fastball is explosive with movement. An Ace? No. Top of the rotation guy? No. But a 4 or 5? Certainly. Jon Garland: 4.90 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, .303 batting average against, 59 BBs and 90 Ks. Javier Vazquez: 4.67 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, .263 batting average against, 61 BBs and 200 Ks. By these numbers, it is also safe to say that Vazquez underperformed based on peripherals and Garland overperformed. Garland, as much as I love him, is trash.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Peavy should command a whole hell of a lot. He's in his prime and signed to a well below market value contract. San Diego papers are saying it'll take 4 upper echelon major league ready type of prospects. Yeah that's why I have a hard time believing Peavy will go anywhere for a couple of years. The Padres would be foolish to trade him, IMO, a young guy who is an Ace, signed to a great contract. Why would you take that away? Prospects are prospects, here you have an ACE at only 27 years old. You should be building around him not trying to trade him.
