For everyone freaking out about Gio...
problem is with Law, BA has got Gio in the low to mid 90's when they have seen him. So, I guess Gio might be hit or miss.

Kenny to discuss Swisher Trade @ 1 PM
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) This interview needs to happen right now... I can't handle Murph for much longer. I can't stand anyone on the Score except Mulligan and Hanley. For me, I always tune into ESPN.

WTF? Where is KW? This is why I hate the score, it seems they always give incorrect times for interviews to boost ratings for their s*** shows.

Crede is gonna go for a reliever or specs. Fields showed--as a raw player--all-star capabilities. I am not sure that Crede hits for a higher average than Fields, or hits more homeruns. Fields certainly will strikeout more, but also walk more. His D is not good, but its serviceable. And more importanly, Crede is coming off back surgery and not faced game pitching in a year, he is not a better option than Fields. What more does Josh have to do?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) Looks like Crandall to Illinois Sunday. http://www.ilprepbullseye.com/page35.html As bad as it has been this year, just keep looking to the future. It will be good again. Maybe not 2005 like because I don't think any team could repeat what they did, but they should be back to sweet 16 contenders every year starting in 09. Just gotta go through this year and next year--which could be solid with Smith and Legion.

If Eggy and Contreras could put up those numbers, I think we will contend because our O will score this year unlike last.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Anyone know a good A's message board? I was supposed to compile a list for all teams and post it, but I dropped the ball. http://www.athleticsnation.com/story/2008/1/3/143136/8394 Here's one.

Remember though, KW is gonna bring in some competition for the rotation. They have some money to spend and need to on 2 veteran pitchers who can compete for a rotation spot or be placed in the pen. Especially with Floyd's injury history, Contreras wear and tear, and Danks inability so far to throw 200+ innings, we need some veteran depth for insurance and to push the youngsters.

Also, some rumblings--that Fathom you might be talking about--are that Fautino may have taken performance enhancers. So, we will see how this plays out. But, for the short term I love this move. Sweeney might have been solid in the future, but not for awhile. Gio hurts because he was a close to being MLB-ready, but Fautino was still a couple years away. Has any Sox pitching prospect ever bitten us in the butt?

It seems pretty clear to me that Fields is going to go for a young pitcher. I think that is the next move.

QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) once again, maggs, i think you are forgetting oklahoma. I just can't get over the fact that at perfect health, they lost to Colorado. At least when USC lost to Stanford, they had injury issues. But, from first hand ass stomping that I saw put on Mizzou by OU, I know they are damn good.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) A team that lost to Stanford is the best team in the country? They are better than ILL, and ILL played poorly, but beating the Illini doesnt make them the best team in the country. Who is then? OSU: lost to ILL. LSU: lost to Arkansas who got killed by Mizzou. Booty broke his finger during the Stanford game. When healthy, I am not sure any team is better than USC. Maybe Georgia.

QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 29, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) He is going to have to get stronger. All the ability in the world but at the next level could get pushed around a tad. Let's not forget he has two years basically before he will suit up for the Illini. He will definately gain weight and muscle in those two years. From pictures I have seen from him, he looks pretty strong and his ability to penetrate and finish the shot seems to indicate that as well. I am pretty sure every junior in high school needs to get stronger in order to make it in the next level.

Brandon Paul (Illini commit 09) had 36 points and 9 rebounds in a double OT win over Iman Shumpter and Oak Park tonight. Paul is blowing up, Iman-style. They seem like almost identical players.

Soxtalk Top Ten Prospect List
With your insight into the organization, what would your top 10 look like? Or have you not seen enough of the upper level players to judge fairly? Also, someone who works for BA that I know told me that some people (nots sure if they were in the organization or not) think Fautino might have used performance enhancers. Any truth of these suspicions?

Soxtalk Top Ten Prospect List
Yeah, its early, but I am bored, so I am starting the thread. BA will release the Sox top prospect list January 14th. Not sure how Carter being traded will affect the list. But here goes my list: 1. Fautino De Los Santos -Top prospect because he has got the highest ceiling. Potential (potential being the operative word) ace or closer. 2. Gio Gonzalez -Should make a strong run at a rotation spot this spring and likely will begin in AAA, but will definately be up in the majors at some point. Two plus pitchers (change and curve rated top in SL,) and a deceptively fast fastball. 3. Ryan Sweeney -Still young and the power has to develope sometime (right?) Still think he will be an above average RF in time. 4. Aaron Poreda -Any lefty throwing upper 90's is a high prospect and his numbers this year justified the hype. If he developes secondary pitches, could be very good. 5. Jack Egbert -Some guys just know how to pitch and he does. Even without plus stuff, he does not give up HRs, walk batters and give up many hits. Hopefully, he is the White Sox's Brad Radke. 6. John Shelby -Solid numbers and impact bat as a CF or 2b-those guys are rare. 7. Lance Broadway -Solid stats, but knows how to pitch and looked very good with the Sox. Everything he throws moves. 8. Alexei Ramirez -Technically a prospect. Hopefully, his impact bat in Cuba translates to the States. Versatility is a plus. 9. Jose Martinez -Very young and a good season in rookie ball. 6-5 and when he adds weight to his frame, could be a monster. 10. Juan Silverio -Phil Rogers called him a "man-child." But, we know Rogers has hyped up some other Sox foreign signees in the past (Anderson Gomes,) but he seems like he has the potential to amazing. But, since all my info comes from Rogers, I have no idea. Unforunately, there aren't many other choices. Thoughts? What does your top ten look like?

Sox Interested in Roberts?
Roberts would be a perfect fit for the Sox. I really would love to get (steroid stuff set aside because he probably has not been on it in two or three years since testing started.) Bat him leadoff and you get a great OBP guy who steals bases and has some power. He immediately fixes our offense and puts this O into the top 5 in the AL. Roberts Cabrera Konerko Thome Dye Fields Pierzynski Quentin Ramirez (or another CF) That lineup has got some power all around, some good OBP guys and two smart base runners at the top. I think Crede is still traded somehow.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 23, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) And with the talent we have coming in, if Mizzou doesn't beat us next year then it could be a long time before they do so. Legion should be eligible for next years game and Mizzou loses a lot so I'd say we have a good shot as of now. I would say next year should be just as close. Illinois loses Pruitt and Randle, Mizzou really only loses Hannah. Lyons and Carroll should be able to dominate inside next year while Illinois should have a decisive perimeter advantage if Jamar and Legion are playing. Next year should once again be a good game, but the years after that Illinois will have a clear talent advantatge. However, with this rivalry, talent is big, but most games are just going to be close with such a great rivalry.

KW Employment Poll
I think KW has been good, but now is mediocre. IMO, he relies too much on gut than stats. I would be curious to see what Rick Hahn could do as GM being a more analytical guy. He would be more based off straight stats than pure what you see which is more KW. It is interesting that they are the GM duo being so different in styles.

And Cole really should have redshirted. He will be a valuable player by senior year, but basically his first two years will be wasted while he matures physically and gets stronger. Had he been able to have a redshirt year, he could have been an all-big ten player. Without it, I don't think he will be.

Legion to Illinois!!! http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/7593740 Great get, although is won't help this year, but next year, Illinois should be a NCAA team once again, especially in a bad Big ten. IMO, this year should be all about developing Tisdale and Davis. There is no way Illinois is a tourney team and I am sure Bruce knows it. They can play very well, but they just don't have the offense to make it. Tisdale and Davis should get big minutes to help for next year.
