The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal
Low risk, high reward. Great signing and his versitility is a great thing to have. Worse case scenario is a very solid bench player.

Confirmed interest in Prior
Unfortunately, because Prior wants multiple years with guarenteed money, the Sox are not going to be in the race. He still is a valuable pitching commodity because he was one of the five best pitchers in baseball only three years ago. And he is only 27, someone will bid $3+ million on the guy--and it won't be the Sox.

Official Recruiting Thread II
Going to Waukegan tonight to see J. Richmond. They play New Trier who boasts their own sophomore stud in Alex Rossi. Looking forward to a great game between two very good teams, but I think NT has a little too much and will beat Waukegan even though Richmond is a beast.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) Griffey is taking an official here on the 30th. I have no idea what our chances are with him but it's fantastic news that he's actually making an official visit. He'd be a huge get but I doubt it'll happen. At least there is a chance though. I am going to go out on a limb and say its gonna be between Mizzou and Illinois. I think Wiscy can be a darkhorse, but IMO it will come down to Mizzou and Illinois. I think Mizzou will win out because of the early playing time.

Finals Thread
I have two classes already finished, but today I have a final test (not a final per se.) But, overall not bad, a final in Macroeconomics and Media Comm. Pretty easy final schedule.

Crede close to going to Brewers
My guess is it will be a older prospect (prolly pitcher, reliever quality?) dont get your hopes up.

White Sox Payroll for 2008
I would say we could go to about $110 million, give or take a couple million. A lot will be predicated on if they can trade Crede and Uribe, because that is $10 million extra to spend on FAs, but $110 million seems reasonable.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) Illinois also has their first verbal for the 2009 class, stud d end Melvin Fellows of Garfield Heights, Ohio. I've never seen Illinois get a verbal for a football recruiting class this early (ie before the signing day this year, they get a verbal for next year). Wow. This class for Illinois is clearly gonna be the one that everyone goes "Holy $%%#." I would expect to see 2-4 5-stars, and at least 10 4-stars. Everything I have read indicates Fellows is a top 10 player in the state of Ohio, which would make him a 4-star prospect likely. Also reports that Ricky Harris another top Ohio player committed to Illinois, but apparently that was pre-mature. I think Zook ends up with a top 10 class next year. Illinois is loaded with talented players who will go to ILL over Michigan, OSU, ND and such. Huge class for the Illini next year, plus with Fayson who is basically a five-star prospect with two years under his belt, wow.

Decision made
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) You arent going to get an impact player like that for Crede, not gonna happen. We are prob looking at a fringe pen arm, or a utility type IF guy. Thats about it, at best. we think alike.
-
Decision made
Unless Miguel Cabrera is joining the Sox, Fields is here to stay. why would the Sox trade an impact bat like his which is cheap for the next five years? Unless they get Miggy which they won't because other teams are offering far better talent, Fields is here. Crede will likely go in a salary dump move for a reliever or a couple of mediocre prospects. Don't expect much in return or you will be disappointed. If the Sox can unload Crede and Uribe to someone, then the Sox should have $20-25 million dollars to play with the rest of the off-season.

Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
The Sox still have a whole in the outfield, trust me KW is still set on adding another big bat to the lineup. He knows Quentin will be good, but he is not a sure bet to 100% for the season, so KW is still going after the impact bat. I still think Rowand ends up on the Sox despite everything you read.

Carter Traded to AZ for Carlos Quentin
QUOTE(JPN366 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) All I can say is...wow. I'm convinced that Kenny Williams is laying the groundwork for a future job with the D-Backs. Does anybody know if he has a house in Phoenix? He better hope Carter and Cunningham don't turn out like Chris Young. I watched Chris Young play for a whole season in AA in 2005, so I knew that was a huge mistake no matter what they got for him. What's next? Egbert, Gio & Josh Fields for Tony Clark & Augie Ojeda? One, Carter is 3+ years away, alot can happen with him. Two, Quentin is ready now and is probably going to be a superior ball player if you look beyond power numbers, because that is the only thing that Carter is better at. Three, Chris Young was a top 20 prospect, Carter not top 100. Fourth, Cunningham is not an amazing ball player, solid, but not spectacular. This was a very good trade for the Sox.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) I like the trade, but if this is it...oh boy. However, if we go out and get a CF (hopefully not Crisp), I'd love this deal. Still got time, but its a great start, but your right we need one OF.

1) Missouri beat Kansas on a neutral field in November. 2) Missouri had the 26th rated strength of schedule(out of 119 teams) and Kansas had the 109th rated schedule. 3) Missouri is HIGHER ranked in the BCS 4) Missouri is rated higher in both the AP and Coaches Poll 5) Missouri has beaten three teams in the AP top 26 (two of which are BCS bowl teams,) Kansas has beaten 0. 6) Missouri has played five games against AP top 26 teams, Kansas has played 1 and lost that game. 7) In five games against common opponents (Iowa St., Kansas St., Colorado, Texas A&M and Nebraska,) Missouri has outscored the opponents by 125, while Kansas has only outscored the common opponents by 94. 8) Every major expert on Fox's bowl show and ESPN's bowl show agreed that Missouri got jobbed and Kansas did not deserve their BCS bowl bid. Kansas clearly does not deserve to go over Mizzou.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) Well i'm glad you figured it out! Seriously though, depth is meaningless when you're talking about who the top few teams are. I agree the Big Ten drops off significantly after the 4th or 5th team, but so? That doesn't take away from the top teams. The play the schedules they are given. When an SEC bottom dweller like Mississippi State can get a couple of big wins, that tells me enough. That's like Northwestern beating Penn State or Wisky, traditionally strong programs in the Big Ten. I think its a travesty that LSU is going to the NC. Give me a team that dominated most of their games, even with a loss or two, versus a team that squeaked by half their season and could easily be about 7-5 or 8-4. In the same breath though, LSU could easily be undefeated still.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) Illinois is going to the Rose Bowl. yeah they are, and hopefully mizzou gets to the Orange Bowl against Va. Tech. It would be a much better matchup than against Kansas.

How many moves wil KW make at Winter Meetings?
I will say 0, but KW will "start the groundwork" for the rest of the off-season.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 04:39 AM) Mizzou would drop from 1 to outside the top 8? Really? I would hope people have some logic and keep them ahead of Kansas in the polls since there is absolutely no way to justify Kansas. What is the BCS' attraction to Kansas ahead of Missouri anyway? There is no reason they would feel obligated to pick them. Both schools are the same size and have similar history so there is no advantage to picking Kansas financially. I don't see how you can justify Kansas, or why bowls would feel compelled to take them. On the plus side a BCS official said that after beating Kansas, Missouri would probably get in with a loss in the Big 12 game, so we'll see. Funny thing is (and maybe I only see this because of bias) I still think Missouri has a better resume than Ohio State. Mizzou lost to one team and beat the team that Ohio State lost to. Ohio State didn't play anyone all year (Michigan isn't that good, didn't play Wisconsin). I can't argue with them going to the title game, but they still didn't prove a thing this year. Oh well, stupid BCS this year. No one should be national champs. I am still holding out hope for the possibility that logic rules out and Mizzou drops, but not behind Kansas. I really think Kansas will drop this week, too. Let's just hope the committee realizes what a travesty it would be to pick Kansas over Mizzou when Kansas played nobody, Mizzou lost to one team who defensively is as talented as any team in the country minus USC and the biggest fact that Mizzou BEAT Kansas. Let's just pray.

As a huge Illini fan who goes to Mizzou, it will truly be a travesty when Illinois and Kansas go to BCS bowl games over Mizzou who beat both of those teams on neutral fields and is the superior team. It just is not fair and the BCS needs to go. 8-team playoff, there is no way that you can tell me that LSU is a better two loss team than Mizzou, Georgia, Oklahoma, or better than a one loss Kansas for that matter.
