If FutureSox did their Top 25 today......
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 06:07 AM) Only on this site would Egbert be higher than DLS Egbert has done his thing at every level, DLS has pitched 91 innings in an entire minor league career. Egbert does not have a higher celing, but clearly will be a solid pitcher or reliever. DLS could blow out his arm and has spotty control. I think when you count both, they are around equal in terms of prospect status. We really need to see more DLS before we annoint a top 3 prospect, IMO. My top 15 1. Gio 2. Sweeney 3. Richar 4. Egbert 5. DLS 6. Carter 7. Poreda 8. Broadway 9. McCulloch 10. Russell 11. Getz (I agree with Danny's high rating) 12. Harrell (sick numbers when healthy last year) 13. Long 14. Perez 15. Edwards

Iguchi Traded to Phillies for RP/SP Michael Dubee
QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) Where is Richar gonna bat? 8th? Does he have #2 potential? 71 Ks in 400 at-bats. So I would say not until that K number comes down. As far as bunting though, I don't how he is, but he needs to make contact. I think he will bat last to start and have 0 RBI opportunities with Uribe in front of him. But to me, he is a 6/7 hitter because of his solid power.

Classic video game memories
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 07:22 PM) Me and a buddy used to play a baseball game for NES that was robots. Mecha-baseball or something, it was a blast. Players exploded when they were thrown out, pitchers and batters had special power-up swings and pitches. It was a really fun game for 12 year old Kyle hey man, we are talkin bout the same game. It was so sweet!

Classic video game memories
Anyone ever play that Robot baseball game for Sega? The name escapes me right now, but it had a number in the title? Anyone? Buehler? Also, the two best games for Nintendo: RBI baseball (there is the entire Buckner game of it on youtube) and Blades of Steel.

7/25 Games
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) I really doubt they drafted him for a relief role. yeah, you don't draft set-up men in the first round (not including supplemental) only closers and even that is rare.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) Charlotte @ Buffalo 6:05 Broadway vs. Sowers Birmingham @ West Tenn 7:05 Wing (Team USA playing at Hoover/Regions Park) Warthogs already won 3-1 Richard 8 IP, 1 R, 3 K, 2 BB, 3 hits Rome @ Kannapolis 6:05 DLS hasn't pitched since the 18th so I would think it's him, but the Kanny games notes say TBD Great Falls @ Orem 8:05 Bristol @ Bluefiled 6 Could be Edwards, too, since yesterday was his game and it was rained out.

BP's very short take on Gio Gonzalez
If they are talking about ceiling like Rowand said, a 3 or 4 is completely wrong. He has a two plus pitches and a third average pitch. With his stuff, he has the ceiling of a a, IMO, Mark Buehrle quality ace (one who is very good, but not a true ace, but can lead a staff with strong pitchers around him.) Obviously, he isn't as durable as Mark, but that's his ceiling IMO. I also believe Gio will either be a boom or bust, meaning a top of the rotation guy or someone who gets bad by the injury big and never makes in the rotation.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:35 AM) It looks like Russell is pitching much better in relief. He has a shot at the bullpen this year. If he can beat out powerhouses Dewon Day and Buttvich FIXED.

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) NCAA 08 is amazing! Legend mode is so sick i love it! I can't wait to get back to school since my roommate just bought it, so there will be alot less studies this semester. Last year we were so dissapointed with Madden, but NCAA 08 is lookin amazing. Also, College Hoops 2k8 should be amazing as well since 07 was awesome.

Contreras
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) There was an article in the Daily Herald the other day insinuating KW is going to be spending some money on the bullpen this offseason. I just can't see KW spending the $3-4 million per year for a top set-up man this off-season.

Why the heck not Eric Byrnes next year...
If our outfield next season looked like Byrnes, Rowand and Sweeney, I would be satisfied. But we need two legit OFs to go along with a youngster. This kind of OF would allow Richar to start at 2b with Fields at 3b. But also we would need a new SS. But Byrnes/Rowand should be a reasonable price maybe $15 million combined, but with the current market, I dunno maybe Byrnes actually does get $10 million and Rowand gets $8-9 million. But if you trade Contreras for anything just rid his contract and lose Dye, you can get both these guys.

Why the heck not Eric Byrnes next year...
Owens is a one tool player right now. And that certainly is not enough for a major league starter. He will hit for a decent average IMO, but not the .300+ he did in the minors. If he is our 5th OF/speedster off the bench, I am fine with that, but he is not a starter, pure and simple. Hey maybe he will all of sudden get a hell of a lot better, but right now he is not a starter.

White Sox vs. Red Sox, 7/20/07 (L)
Honestly, you didn't think Contreras' trade value could go down right? Wrong.

Official Recruiting Thread II
I am very confident in landing Suggs for this class. So if you can get Suggs and then maybe get Miller then then class is great. Shumpert seems like he is gone. I will gladly take Suggs and then a out-of-state big. Still, all things considering no matter who we get this class will be a dissapointment b/c we didn't get the Chicago kids. Also, Bruce better start offering for the '09 class because that is what kids like apparently nowadays and Bruce only offers a select few as sophs.

7/19 Games
This is the best time to call up Sweeney and Richar, both are on-fire. But of course KW won't until he sends JD and Tad packing and still they would have to beat the likes of Pods/Erstad for Sweeney and Gonzalez for Richar. We need to see these two play everday in the majors, so we can find out if they can be put in the '08 lineup. If they hit, which I think they will, then it becomes alot easier for next year. You would have your 1b, DH, 2B, 3B, CF/RF and C. And then you would only need a new SS, LF and RF/CF, p

7/17 Games
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:43 AM) It's not interesting and not surprising. The guy said it himself in a FutureSox interview a year ago. Hopefully, by moving him to the pen, he will be able to throw that upper 90's heat that he has. I like the move and think he will be in Chicago pretty soon just like a couple other guys auditioning for the 2008 pen.

Richar, Castillo named offensive players of week
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) Richar has the tools and I want him up pronto. Iguchi must be dealt. At the time of the trade, I did not like it because I really liked Cunningham (mancrush) but now after seeing Richar's numbers, I am beginning to like it, alot. If he can be a solid second baseman with pop that will be great. Bring him up now and Sweeney and see if they can be counted on for next year.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) Ahh, so this is what my friend was talking about. This looks like it could be good. or cause its seems like it will be built up so much, a complete bust.
