Buehrle Fest
Yes please sign Mark. Trade Count to the Mets and lets see what Gavin can do. If he was throwing 94 MPH, I think a 4.5 ERA isn't unreasonable since he has done his success in a hitter's paradise in Charlotte. This would be beatiful if we could keep Gar, Mark and Vaz. Then have the cheap backend of Floyd and Danks. Then, maybe next year trade Vaz to put Gio there.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) Just to give you guys a clue on how solid Pocic is to UofI: he already added class of 2012 Illinois to his facebook, many different Illini players as friends, and groups like Fighting Illini Football: 2008 Big Ten Champs, and Ron Zook Fan Club. I know it's just facebook, but it seems like he is completely solid with the Illini. i am glad to see it, he has some big time influence too with Goebel as I mentioned above, Filer and Foster is his good friend too. Foster wants to committ to Illinois, but wants to wait till the end of the week to see if ND or Michigan offers. I am not worried about ND with him because he say earlier he does not want to go to another Catholic school, but Michigan is always a tough school to beat. I still like Illinois with him. He is just plain and simple a sick athlete, 6'4", 225 lbs. and runs a 4.4-40 yard dash. Sign him up as a Martez Wilson hyrbid player, OLB/DE.

Garrett Goebel has Illinois is his top four along with West Virginia, OSU, and Michigan. Illinois is back in after not being in a week and ND is out. With Pocic going to Illinois, I think Garret took a second look and his visit over the weekend was very good. I think Illinois/OSU are the favs (which is pretty much widely speculated) now. I give Illinois a great shot and if they get Goebel, I would not be surprised to see Filer go too, who is close with both Pocic and Goebel. Zook is da man.

Vasher Signs Extension
Great job by the Bears giving their players the money and nice to see Vasher take less than what he could have gotten in the Free Agent market. Don't ya wish other players (cough cough 55) would do that?

Red Sox Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Yep, trading Buehrle is different than any other player with the Sox. KW will have to be able to justify this trade to not only the smart fans, but to the dumb fans also. I just looked at Lowrie's numbers, and he's not very good. The more I think about it, the more I think we'll take a chance on Wily Mo. All the posts being made now are in reaction to the Boston media reports. True, and the reports I find hard to believe because nobody on the Red Sox boards are hearing anything just like many have said on this board.

Red Sox Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) Just remember, if something did happen today, they might wait until the Red Sox game is over today. They're in the 7th inning. I think everything right now is just quick reactions to our suckage. KW will not make a quick move like this b/c he can't possibly get top value for MB or any others. He will wait, the only changes I see are more bullpen switches maybe Floyd up instead of Masset and Gonzo down and Sweeney up.

Red Sox Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) That's why I like what I'm reading on some of these Red Sox boards. It seems the consensus from the more logical posters is that Epstein can't get this thing done without giving up one of Ellsbury or Buchholz. That's why I think KW will wait. Something will happen with others teams, maybe an injury or bad play, but Buehrle's value could still go up. Other side of the coin is what if Buehrle gets injured or struggles.

Red Sox Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Exactly. Then call NY and see if they'd be interested. Honestly, somebody needs to abuse one the baseball beat writers/reporters by "leaking" that the Yankees are close to acquiring Buehrle and we will see how soon Theo picks that phone up and offers Buchholz.

Red Sox Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:23 PM) FWIW, Gammons is reporting the Red Sox won't trade Lester, Buccholz, or Bowden. If true, hang up the phone KW. Exactly, if the Red Sox want the most durable pitcher in baseball, who also has a WS title, a no-hitter and everything outstanding about him: being lefty, holds runners, play D, great teammate, easy going, well then its gonna cost a top pitching prospect. KW holds the cards, Theo will be calling back shortly.

If we get a top 5 pick in the 2008 draft.....
We won't take a top HS talent, guarenteed b/c that player will likely be advised by Boras, which automatically is a no-no for the Sox. Most likely, the Sox will go with the college route for a player. But like Kalapse said, Alvarez is the clear #1 right now.

Red Sox Interested in Buehrle?
If the Red Sox would be willing to give up Buchholz and Lowrie and then another mid-level prospect, I would be in for it. Lowrie is a terrific SS/2b who has a tremedous on-base percentage and just is a very solid player. He is probably ready for AAA and could be ready for the majors next year. Buchholz has got great stuff and his numbers this year in AA are just plain filthy. This is a good deal for the Sox if they could get these two and then another mid-level prospect.

6/23 Games (Poreda does alright)
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) The Knights get swept Sweeney 2-3 RBI now batting .301 He also threw out Matt LeCroy at the plate Well its pretty easy when the guy running is Matt LeCroy who more or less jogs than truly runs.

White Sox vs. Cubs, 6/23/07 (L)
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) 11 straight series losses? And yet, the only one to lose his job is our scouting director? I think Ozzie has done a bad job this year, but with all the injuries and the suckiness of the offense and inability to find a bullpen, he can't be blamed, which I think you are implying. Walker needs to go, first and foremost.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 07:54 AM) great freakin get. class is starting to shape up nicely. I doubt we get a 5-star recruit, but it looks like it will the deepest class in awhile. We could get 10 4-star recruits and that is including Nate Palmer who I believe will be moved up based on his performace this season. He was injured last year and still had some good numbers. BTW, I hope we get Glenn Foster cause he is a beast.

Big (6'7", 316 lbs.) OT Graham Pocic from Lemont committed to Illinois. Is very good friends with Garrett Goebel from Lombard who was thought to be very high on OSU. There were rumors that he was gonna committ a couple of weeks ago and since he didn't I think Illinois might sneak in there with Michigan, ND and OSU for his services.

Tank "possibly" got a DUI in Arizona
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) He got really overrated because of how good the Bears team was. He simply isn't Tommie Harris. He's no big loss, see ya I would have to disagree. Tank is a very good player and had what, like 5 sacks one year from the DT spot? I think he is better than you give him credit for. IMO, he is a big loss, but not a huge loss.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 07:32 AM) liggens favoring kansas over illinois, memphis, kentucky I really don't get the Kansas love, the campus is pretty bad from what I hear. Self will butter up player no doubt, but that is recruiting. Still think Illinois is fine and I wasn't counting on Liggins anyway. I am very confident in Humphrey and Dunigan. And then you get one more of Shumpert or Suggs and its a top 15 class.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) How many times has Garland been in trade talks. He is nearly traded each offseason. you'd be surpised how many guys are talked about in serious deals like that. It just so happens that garland was named by Levine.

White Sox vs. Cubs, 6/22/07 (L)
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:36 PM) He is a FA after next year, has averaged 18 wins and will just make silly money after next year. They have tried to trade him how many times. He is your best trading chip. For me, he is a sinkerballer and that plays well here. He is someone that I would keep. But you cant fault he is the highest upside of mucho high end specs. so what? we can afford to have big $$ pitchers like Buehrle and Garland. Then, have your Danks and Gio who make nothing and then Vaz or another guy. But when you have two guys like Mark and Jon who never miss a start, why would you not resign them or keep them? Mark, offer the $$ KW and see what he says. If he says no, trade his ass. But Garland should be kept.
