White Sox vs Yankees, 6/7/07 (L)
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) So wait, are we just skipping game 4 of the Yankees series? I've seen a few people mention Friday as the next game on the schedule so I'm legitimately confused here. woah, i totally forgot about game 4. Its not like we are going to win anyways. jose will blow up against his former team and Moose will pitch 7 strong.

2007 MLB Amateur Draft Thread
He's a mock draft from Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus via CNNSI.com. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...ctus/index.html If Porcello was available (like Goldstein thinks) for the Sox. I would be so pissed at the Sox's organization. To turn away the best high school pitcher in arguably the best high school pitching draft class in recent memeory, would be sad. Hopefully, he's available and the Sox take him, but if they didn't... Although, Alderson is a guy I really like. Imagine if Brad Radke threw in the mid to upper 90's, and that's what Alderson could be. SICK.

Our Top Prospects
QUOTE(spiderman @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:54 PM) Regarding Our Top Prospects - whether it be Gio Gonzalez, Lance Broadway, Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, Josh Fields, or others - does our organization overrate them ? I'm thinking specifically about the OF's right now as a lot of our pitching prospects still haven't made its way to the majors, but is Ryan Sweeney going to be a complementary OF or a difference maker. Same for Brian Anderson. It's looking like quite a few of them could become key players in the next year or so for the MLB team. So, just wondering, which ones do you think will become successful difference makers (if any) as opposed to just journeymen who we shouldn't get excited about (I'm sure Brian Anderson's name will come up here). Gio = #2 starter if he stays healthy Brian = solid CF in the majors (not Sox though,) maybe .275, 20 homers, 15 SBs and great D Ryan = will start to show true self in mid 20's when he physically matures, .300 hitter with 20+ homer potential, solid D and great arm in RF Josh = all-star level third baseman or solid corner outfielder, possibly a .290 hitter with 30 homer power and 15 steals as well. No Gold gloves, but adequate D and will walk and strike out a lot. Broadway = 4-5 starter, capable of 200 innings, double digit wins, but poor WHIP and k's. Granted Brian won't do this with the Sox, Ryan needs two more years of weight training, Fields need some major league time, Gio needs some as well, but these guys are very are very talented, not Broadway though. These are my projections for their 2-4 peak years.

2007 MLB Amateur Draft Thread
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) Keith, or anyone else with a subscription to Baseball America, is there any way to access Jim Callis' final mock drafts these last several years? I'm trying to determine how accurate he's been in the past. I came upon 2006, and it was off quite a bit-- only eight of the thirty first round selections were correct; five within the Top 10. All I could find was last year's, but I would guess he is pretty accurate compared to others. The MLB draft is probably the hardest to guess, so he has got to be one of the best. Also, a very nice guy who lives in the Chicago area. 2006 1. Royals: Projected Pick: Luke Hochevar, rhp, Fort Worth Cats. 2. Rockies: Projected Pick: Greg Reynolds, rhp, Stanford. 3. 2007 MLB Amateur Draft Thread
Sox have not drafted a solid major league player in the last 14 years with their first selection. That's gotta be the worst track record of any major league team. This year Kenny is putting his ass on the line by being more invovled in the selection. Can we please draft an impact high school guy with upside?

High School Draft Prospects
QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) I'm guessing "no" on Laporta, he is advised by Boras. As annoying it is to deal with Boras, he generally represents the best players in each draft and thus the best players in baseball. So if we want the best talent, we are going to have to deal with Boras, just like every other team.

6/5 Games
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) Ya, Veal was really highly thought of when the Sox took him but he was pretty much an impossible sign at the time. Imagine if we had signed Veal and Wes Hodges who was a 13th round pick and Veal was the 12th. That would have been a very good draft class.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:51 PM) We need a 9th inning similar to the Blue Jays' 5 walks, 4 doubles, 6 runs Hell we don't even accumulate those kind of numbers in two weeks let alone one single inning.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 6/5/07 (L)
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) Because they were never in the minors? They didn't develop them. Thats like giving the Sox minor league system for producing Tadahito Iguchi and Shingo Takatsu. Wang was signed into the Yankees organization as a 20-year old. I think they developed him. That is a similar for many Latin America players, the majority is 18, but 20 is still pretty common.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) Wang and Irabu were signed out of Asia, Contreras out of Cuba. What have Cabrera, Rivera, Taylor, and Henson done to warrant any praise? How does being signed out of Asia in Wang's case as a youngster any different from Latin America. He is a farm product of the Yankees.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) Go root for the Devil Rays then. One less compulsive whiner on the board. What do the Devil Rays have to show for all that "talent level?" They have been talked about for years and stiill can't get out of the basement. I have been about the most optimistic and glass half-full White Sox since I truly became a fan. But the lack of organizational talent is just astounding. For a team with the Sox's budget, we have no minor league signings of top free agents. We give big money to guys who will do absolutely nothing like Gomes and Po-Sin Lee who now somehow only throws in the mid 80's. We are not a great run organization, simply put. I am sorry if I sound whiny, but being so optimistic for so long is just frustrating.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) Reed was the only reason we got Freddy, so I'm not going there. That's true and credit Kenny for getting solid major league talent for our supposed great minor leaguers. Of all the trades he made in his tenure, he will be bitten by one and that is the Young deal. And personally, I think Chris Young is very overrated. He will play great D, hit around .270, with 25 homers and 30 SBs in his peak years, but he is not a top 10 prospect like Dayn Perry and others say.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) so, to get this straight if we're 10 out by the end of the month we fire every pitching and hitting coach in the organization. top to bottom. christ, why don't we just dig up andy the clown and kick him a few times, too. Don't you wonder why some teams just continually produce solid big league players like the Braves, the Yankees, the Indians, the Twins...And then wonder why the Sox can't. Well it lies within the organization and sometimes you need a clean sweep to reconstruct. Hell, I would so much rather be the Devil Rays organization right now. There talent level is so much higher than us every where in the organization.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) Rauch was the Minor League Player of the Year and a Top 10 in all of baseball prospect. Jeremy Reed also was Minor Leaguer of the Year I think, although clearly not the same level of prospect. Ginter was close to a first rounder or supplemental (also on the Olympic Team), Wright was a first rounder...Barcelo was at Top 100 prospect too. Same wtih Malone. Now if you start bringing up Wyatt Allen, Brian West and Rob Purvis as examples, I might agree. I totally forgot about Reed, but he was rated the second best prospect in baseball one year behind Joe Mauer by Baseball Prospectus. We have more busts as prospects than any other organizations, maybe along with the Cubs.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 6/5/07 (L)
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) Rauch and Honel were really the only one's who were "studs". Not true at all. Stumm was compared to Roger Clemens, Malone was a stud after his breakthrough season, Ginter and Wright were top 50 prospects by BA. Our organization was loved by Baseball America and other places because we had great minor league pitchers and all of them failed to develope.

I applaud Tadahito for actually looking like a major leaguer at the plate, something the rest of our hitters fail to do.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 6/5/07 (L)
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Uuum, what? The list goes on: Jason Stumm, Danny Wright, Jon Rauch, Matt Ginter, Rocky Biddle, Brian West, Lorenzo Barcelo, Josh Fogg, Gary Majewski, Corwin Malone, Arnie Munoz, Kris Honel, Matt Guerrier. And that is only from 2000 when our system was rated by Baseball America as the best and all these guys were tabbed future major leaguers.

Cintron had a great swing there, too bad it was still an average hit and caught.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) If we are 10 or more out, and Kenny decides to go for it, instead of reloading for next year he needs to go then. I am all for going for it. But if you are 10 or more out, and you have a bunch of pending FAs that are on an older team. Its time to move on. You get a crapload of talent. You fire every single hitting instructor in the minors and the one up here, and you reload. Honestly, you need to fire the pitching coaches as well. We have so many stud pitching prospects the last decade who have done NOTHING. Its an entire organization thing, they all need to be changed. We have produced by ourselves five solid big leaguers basically in a decade: Buehrle, Maggs, C-Lee, Aaron and Crede. That's it, in TEN years. That is inexcusable.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 6/5/07 (L)
All I know is that we are gone be fluttering around the .500 mark the whole season unless we do something drastic: firing Greg Walker would be a start, but also getting Fields up here, too. And we really need about 4 new starters for the offense to be average, specifically at LF. CF, SS and 3B. Also it wouldn't hurt at RF, 1B and C. Maybe even 2B. So when it comes down to hit, we really could just use a lineup makeover.

One thing about Bukvich that is nice, his fastball has got some nice movement.
