Baseball America's Top Ten Sox Prospects
1. Sweeney 2. Fields 3. Broadway 4. McCulloch 5. Haeger 6. Cunningham 7. Russell 8. Harrell 9. Long 10. Carter Not to much depth there. We have some nice pitching depth coming along, but none of them profile as more than mid rotation guys. Good topic for discussion, though.

Rangers Have Interest in Garland
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) If Anderson is included, Texas absolutely has to include Hurley. Garland + Anderson for Danks/Hurley/Basset is about what I"d expect. We shouldn't be looking to trade for equal value here. This is our opportunity to take advantage of surplus pitching. It's difficult to expect a legitimate upgrade in LF/CF, however, unless prospects obtained from Garland (added with our package) were sent to TB for Crawford. Do you believe we'll pay 13-14 million a year for J.D. Drew? I'd think a trades for Figgens alone may occur, in which some combination of prospects would be sent over. Problem is, who exactly would they want? Sweeney would probably be platooned in CF, and we're not exactly stacked with anything else. I'd say, see if Anaheim might want Fields and Broadway. Chone is good player, but not good enough for that type package. I think Fields playing as a rookie next year could come close to Chone's value. IMO, Fields would have a better OPB and SLUG (Chone's was .336 last year, not mention only .376 slugging.) I think Fields could hit close to hit .250, which is only .17 off Chone's. Add the fact that Josh in a full year could steal 15 bases, and hit 15 homers, don't even think to include in a possible deal for a leadoff hitter unless its Crawford.

Rangers Have Interest in Garland
Why? KW Jon was our best pitcher last year. Don't trade Garland.

Heath Phillips on the block
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) Don't we have open spots on the 40 man? Now we do, but prolly not after we sign 3 players.

Trade Winds?/Good Suntimes Info
QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) Why ? Cuz DeLuca says so .So let it be written so let it be done .But seriously I agree about Roger ,we dont need an expensive pitcher with bad hams .It does get a chili in the spring and fall around here ,never good for hamstrings . Lets be glad DeLuca isnt the GM. De Luca would not just make up this. This from his sources, so if you say this, you really mean you wish KW wasn't GM.

What to do with Pods
Why exactly would the Rockies do this move? Pods is a worse option than what they have. Why would they give up someone who throws that kind of heat. The Rockies are always looking for pitching. Realistically, nobody wants Pods.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) Great day for the Illini, and Benn won't be the last 5 star in this class either.....damn Zook can recruit. Marvin Austin is close with Locks and knows Benn, so he could be coming as well. If he comes, Wilson might follow. Go get em Zooker.

USA TODAY BASEBALL WEEKLY TRADE SUGGESTION
I would do that deal if we give them a lesser prospect than Broadway. Maybe a Cunningham, but someone else. I would have no problem giving Crede and Garcia. This allows you to explore trades for Juanny and possibly move A-Rod back to SS. Just imagine if we could do this trade, plus a Uribe, Sweeney and Broadway for Michael Young. What an infield!

David Riske-"type A" free agent
That's sad that he qualifies as a type A. Next year (with the new CBA) this won't happen unless it goes into effect this off-season, which I dont think is how its working. I still dont think we offer him arbitration.

White Sox Sign Outfielder Luis Terrero
QUOTE(J-MAN @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) WMVP has Sox signing Terrero to a one year contract for $100,000. $100,000 is nothing, he is a low risk/high reward signing. What not to like? Certainly nothing to dislike.

Recruiting Thread
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) I think he's going to Indiana. Gets to play with Gordon, gets to play in a huge conference, gets to play on a contending team as soon as he steps on the court, and will be in the national spotlight. People might say he won't want to share his spotlight with Gordon, but if Rose is as good as people say he is, he won't mind it because he'll end up getting drafted top 5 regardless. Right now I think it's: Indiana Memphis ...Illinois He doesnt want to play with Gordon. Thats the thing people are missing, he wants to be the stud player, he doesn't want to share the limelight with Gordon. Indiana, IMO, is out. And its between Memphis and Illinois, depsite the fact the Derek might not like the drive to Memphis, I still think he ends up at Memphis.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) I disagree. The Illini's biggest weaknesses have been, by far, WR and special teams. If those 2 facets of the team were just below average (instead of awful), 2-7 would be at least 5-4, more likely 6-3. However, yeah 3 of the top 5 d linemen in the nation would be nice. I said defensivly speaking, but in terms of overall play it would be WR and special teams.

Recruiting Thread
Illinois' big weakness this year defensively is on the D-Line and the Zooker might be getting 3 of the top 5 D-lineman in the nation. That would be f'in sweet.

Dave Roberts looking like a strong possibility
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) With both Sweeney and Fields waiting in the winds...I could understand Roberts as a cheap, 1-2 year stop-gap solution. But it all depends on the $$. I think the fact that there are solid OF this year in FA like Soriano and Lee, and also two perceived better leadoff options in Matthews Jr. and Pierre, his price would not be that bad. I would say a 2-year deal at $10 million with a third year team option at around the same salary.

Sox don't want to resign Riske
The bullpen next year should look like this: Cl- Jenks SU-Thorton SU-Mac MR-Cotts MR-FA MR-FA LR-Haeger We need two veteran arms in the pen. I am sick of having crap come in the 6th and 7th and give up the lead. Spend the $6 million or so it takes to get two veteran middle relievers. I would not mind Justin Speier and maybe even Foulke (if he would come back here, which I doubt.) Or get em through trades, but we need a solid bullpen that wont blow leads every game.

Sox don't want to resign Riske
http://www.dailysouthtown.com/sports/115761,1SPT2-29.article Does this writer even watch the Sox? Neal has never thrown mid 90's, let alone upper 90's. Man, do some frickin HW.

Dave Roberts looking like a strong possibility
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) 3E8 brought up a good point with Cat and our LHH situation. The killer for us last year seemed to be our inability to hit LH, especially at the top of the order. Neither Roberts or Cat are especially good at hitting LHP, but it's hard to find guys that are, the leadoff spot even more so. Im really not sure what Williams has in mind for the lead off spot, but getting someone at the top of the order than can knock around LHP is something that needs to be on the top of the list this off-season. Is Eduardo Perez a FA, because he kills lefties. Or LeCroy, as a first baseman/pinchhitter

Dave Roberts looking like a strong possibility
I could imagine a line-up like this: CF-Roberts SS-FA/trade (Lugo woud be nice or Uribe trade bring back) RF-Dye DH-Thome 1B-Konerko 3B-Crede 2b-Iguchi C-AJ LF-Fields/Sweeney I really think we need the top two hitters to be speedy contact hitters, and then stack teh bottom the line-up. I dont think this lineup is unfeasable at all and it would make the offense much more consistent.

Dave Roberts looking like a strong possibility
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines IMO, he is better than Pierre. Comes cheaper and is a better overall player.
