I can read the comments from Machado's dad as being either good for the Sox or bad. Good in that we are a team less talked about generally than the Phillies, Yankees and Dodgers. Bad in that we have been associated with Machado and maybe the comment means the mystery team will get him.

I have a hard time buying that the Sox view Pujols and Machado similarly. Machado is way younger reaching free agency and has much more defensive value. The comp makes no sense.

I don't understand why people think this deal is a lowball. It's the second largest contract in AAV in MLB history, not to mention, apparently no one has a better offer on the table. If the AAV is true, no one can justly claim the Sox did not offer their best.

Seems like Passan/Gomez leaks were from the agent side, trying to keep Philly (and Yankees? Mystery team?) bidding up. Nightengale got info from Sox to slow down any other teams upping the bid. At this point, also seems like both Harper and Machado are waiting for each other to sign. They both probably think they are better than the other, and want to use the other's contract as leverage.

At the bottom of Nightengale article, he basically says Sox are expected to sign Machado. On phone, otherwise, would have copied and pasted his language.

I just refuse to believe these negotiations have been some sort of up and down like the "sources" claim. That's not how they work. It's a slow burn. It's not "today, he's coming. Tomorrow, he's not."

There was nothing to suggest though that Shields was hurt at the time he was traded.

On a personal level, I don't like Williams for his past misconduct. But man, he is one of the better defensive coaches in the NFL.
