  1. BA has an article about how the Cubs lost one of their top 2017 international free agents (https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/how-the-cubs-lost-their-top-2017-international-prospect/). It's behind a paywall, but an older article on a Cubs site (https://www.thecubreporter.com/06222018/manfred-cracks-down-mexican-league) seems to suggest the Cubs were may not playing by the rules. Does the BA article mention the Cubs skirting the rules?
  2. His hit/power tools, even in a best-case scenario, are nowhere near those guys.
  3. If he holds the entire preseason, there is no way he is active for at least the first 2-3 weeks.
  4. Traded Corey Coleman (15th pick in 2016) to Bills for 7th rounder pick in 2020.

  6. Given the defensive liabilities of Collins, which have not been improved much by most accounts, it defies reason to me how one could rate him above Cease. While Cease has always been plagued by questions concerning his command, his walk rate has improved with every promotion.
  7. Without knowing who the third piece may be, I think the Pirates actually did pretty well here. Archer should thrive in the NL, and the Pirates have him for 3.5 years. Meadows stocked has faded a great deal and Glasnow evidently cannot be a starter.
  8. Also many are acclimating to being away from home for the very first time for an extended stretch. To move him to Great Falls after just getting comfortable in Arizona might not be wise.
  9. Voldstad was required to pitch multi-inning stints, for which Danish is better suited. Glad Danish has had a bounce back year, he could be a very useful multi-inning bullpen piece for the Sox in the future.
  10. I'll say under, but he reminds me a lot of Josh Fogg. And somehow, Fogg had nearly 200 MLB starts, though mostly with very bad Pirates' teams.
  11. Wade Davis. Josh Hader. Edwin Diaz. All starters in the minors and ended up in MLB bullpens.
  12. Thank gosh nothing arm related apparently.
  13. Doesn't matter what people here thought, what matters is that the White Sox got owned scouting wise. Their internal scouting completely missed on him and allowed the Padres to fleece him from us. It was a complete organizational failure to allow him to go. But alas, it's in the past and we have to move on.
  14. Ya, I am sure this will change tremendously by next year. I am just hoping somehow Adley gets pushed back to the three spot where we likely will pick. Somehow I doubt it, though.
  15. I do wonder when you have to give serious thought to him abandoning switch hitting.
  16. Oh I know, but you just reading public information and analyzing is extremely informative.
  17. How does his injury compare to Adolfo's?
  18. This is definitely correct. No argument there.
  19. (1) Yes, I would agree with you Illinois' pension is representative of elsewhere. That is absolutely true, as Illinois is by most accounts the worst in the country. (2) This is why I said partially, yes, there were multiple pension holidays under I believe under Governor Edgar that helped push the pensions deeper in the red. And you are also right that my analysis focuses mostly on the local impact (here in Illinois) But, it is also true that, over the course of Illinois' history, public-sector unions have had a significant persuasion on democratic leaders and allowed overly generous pension benefits to those state workers. Overly generous retirement health-care benefits, cost-of-living adjustments, percent of recent years salary as your pension, etc. The public-sector unions have donated lots of money over the years to democratic leaders to gain their support for these pension benefits. (BTW, I am a state worker who allegedly will obtain a pension from the State of Illinois).
  20. You completely distorted what I said to suggest that I said working-class teachers are to blame for everything.
  21. Notice how I said "partially" and then you extrapolate that to "everything"? And how you said I am blaming teachers when that never appeared in my post? But continue your straw-man argument...
  22. It's important to recognize that this only impacts public-sector unions, which have been partially to blame for massive unfunded pension liabilities.
