Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 12:41 PM) The 0.7 was in 27 games. And he really only started to hit 3 or 4 years ago. It depends what kind of a bargain he is. I wouldn't be too worried about a 2nd round pick being lost. He's definitely better than what you would expect a second rounder to be. Boras being is agent probably means the bargain cannot be met. Good point re 0.7 WAR. Missed that when I was typing his numbers.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
Given that he has a draft pick tied to him, he will cost a hefty sum and his WAR the last six seasons are 2.2, 0.7, 3.7, 0.5, 1.2 and 3.4 (2017 to 2012), I would much rather have Yolmer Sanchez for 2018 and see if he improves upon his 2.1 WAR.

Chicago Police Officer shot dead
Take it for what it’s worth, I work across the street at another state building and one of our security guards told me that the officer, who was off duty, saw drug dealing going in a stairwell outside the building, confronted the men and was shot point blank multiple times in the head.

**President Trump 2018 Thread**
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 11:25 AM) what a giant wet fart Page has been on the FBI's radar for years going back to 2013. I can't believe US intelligence officials would want to surveil a suspected Russian spy!!

**President Trump 2018 Thread**
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 03:00 PM) This is hilarious. The memo has not been released yet. You have no idea whether it's misleading or not because you haven't seen it. Your reaction shows youre afraid of it because you're running damage control before there has even been a release of the potentially damaging memo. The FBI, under the leadership of a Trump appointee, recently said the memo is misleading and omits critical facts. What more do you want? That statement would not be signed off on without Wray agreeing.

Law also said that if he were rankings organizational talent 25 years or younger, he would likely have the Sox #1.

SoxFest Updates Thread
Kinda a joke that the Sox would not credential FutureSox. It's by far the best White Sox minor league resource. And since the Sox are trying to showcase their minor league players, illogical that you would not want FutureSox there.

MLB Pipeline Top Prospects
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 08:06 AM) If there is anything positive to take away from the whole Tatis Jr. thing, it is that either we were very unlucky or that our international scouting has gotten better. In fairness to the front office, Tatis. Jr. was nowhere near top 100 prospect lists when we traded him. Positive: The found a guy who was not a consensus elite international prospect (ranked 27th in MLB in 2015) who eventually became an elite prospect Negative: Their internal scouting on him shortly thereafter failed miserably

The description on Tatis, ranked as the No. 2 SS, was demoralizing.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 23, 2018 -> 07:13 AM) Wow, that’s encouraging on Robert. Eric Longenhagen was on Fangraphs audio and gushed about Robert's batting practice session. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/fangraphs-a...t-hitting-camp/

2017-2018 NFL Thread
Given that Fox was a defensive coach, I wonder how much the defense changes now that Vic will have complete autonomy to run it as he sees fit (not scheme wise, but perhaps the level of aggressiveness).

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 08:52 AM) The Bear offense should have no excuse to not be extremely dynamic next season. Not that they are certain to be great but at the very least they should have a dynamic mix and creativity. One would think they will really look to add some playmakers on offense through the draft and FA but they still need parts on D too. As excited as I am about the staff that is being put together they still have a ways to go in building a real contender. That's the key. Have to draft a WR in Round 1 or 2. And sign probably two in free agency. They also really need another offensive TE on the roster.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 11:03 AM) I can't say I know their cap situation and how it works as compared to with the Eagles and Browns were detailed in teh story but it seems like the Wheaton and Glennon contracts could impact what would have been able to be rolled over inot this offseason. I was unaware of the rollover options. Makes the bad middle of the road FA signings worse. Although keeping guys on teh field would help. Isn't Ted Phillips the cap guru? That's Cliff Stein, who by all accounts knows the salary cap rules as well as anyone.

The Pet Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 31, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) My dog is 7 and this winter has already been rougher on his paws than any other. The wax stuff isn't helping like past years. Ordering booties because I feel bad. He literally goes out, goes potty, then pulls me back in. Not getting any walks, which I don't hate because I'm lazy after work, but he needs his exercise since he's alone during the week so much. I have a five-month old puppy, and he is getting major cabin fever. Likewise with the paws, the salt/snow/cold is rough on them. Luckily he can play in the hallway of our apartment building, but that only entertains him for so long. We have boots (they look like deflated balloons), but still doesn't solve all the issues.

Finance/Investments
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 10:16 PM) I do the same except for Illinois state employees they'll do a deferred income into the Vanguard type fund. Ours is T Rowe Price I believe. I'm old though. I'm in the 2025. I do the same. The 457 plan is really good.

Dustin Fowler suing White Sox for injury
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) That's good, otherwise it'd set up a pretty bad incentive to not fix problems. Precisely the rationale.

Dustin Fowler suing White Sox for injury
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 08:34 AM) At the very least, hopefully they've already removed or protected this box in some way and did an assessment of other potential hazards around the field. edit: wonder if doing that would be admitting liability or negligence in some way though In Illinois, evidence of subsequent remedial measures is inadmissible to prove negligence.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (Scoots @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) Aren't satisfied? They want two young pitching prospects controllable for over 4 years for 1 year rental. I'm starting to think the Orioles are a poorly run team. I mean, I guess the best they can do now is wait for the trade deadline and trade him to a desperate team then, but what do they really think they are going to get here? They've won more than 80 games five of the last 18 seasons. They refuse to spend money internationally. Ya, they've been poorly run for awhile now.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 01:59 AM) For the first time I definitely believe the Sox can sign Machado to the biggest contract in baseball history. Harper too if they want. They have like 10 or 20 million on the books after next season. I'm sure Jerry has some number between 110-150M that maxes payroll. Remember when they went "all in"? Who cares how it gets to 120M? 2 guys at 40M each and then all our 500k guys. Still under the Jerry number. But as a team building philosophy, I am not sure it is smart to spend 1/4 of your payroll on one guy (unless that guy is Mike Trout maybe). Now I understand the Sox will have a very young roster going forward with many players making the minimum or near minimum, but spending so much on one guy really hamstrings your ability to fill hole with competent veterans.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Knowing the basic rules of evidence is probably pretty important for a trial judge. How does a lawyer not know what a motion in limine is? Even most corporate lawyers should have a basic understanding of that. Not to mention that federal district court judges oversee these motions routinely and in most cases.
