QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Yes I am. We all knew. The honest thing to do would be to decommit as soon as he was arond 50/50 about Ui vs. IU. Just checking. As it appears not everyone knows that, with some of the comments towards Sampson in the two threads. http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9726347 -

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) Eric Gordon is NOT a 4-star PG from Peoria. First thing you want to do before checking out other school's is decommit. Like you said, it's really non-binding. I am pissed at the Gordon family, but if I'm the other school, in this case IU, then I say, we will not actively recruit you until you decommit. You can visit, meet with the players, whatever, but coaches will NOT recruit. Maybe I'm just being bitter, but that's the kind of thing that would make the recruiting trail better. You can't "recruit" behind the scenes just in case a player decides to de-commit...that does two horrible things, one, it doesn't instill confidence in the player you ARE recruiting and two, if player one DOES sign a letter-of-intent, then you just pretty much screwed player two. The NCAA has to decide if this is a business or not. If it IS a business, then the above scenario is right. If not, the recruiting process needs to be fixed. Are you aware that Gordon and his family were the ones to inititate the contact with Indiana? http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...llege-headlines -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) I dont see Pinella making the cubs any better to be honest with you. Agreed. I like Lou, but all he is is a great name, just as Dusty Baker was prior to the Cubs job. And how did Lou do in TB? I don't see the hiring of Lou doing much for the Cubs.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 09:47 AM) Honestly, does either matter? It wasnt as if we didnt know what Hernandez said within minutes of the broadcast. Everyone heard about it anyways. It shouldn't, but this is baseball's showcase. There's a lot more people going to hear about this one without even trying, as you even have non-baseball fans watching these games. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) That was fun to watch, but the idiots reactions we'll get about ex Sox in this town Monday make me sick. It's been sad since September 1st and will only get worse. Just wait until Jose Valentin starts getting hot...

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) Hooray Iowa football...apparently Iowa fans didn't rush the field after this one Nice. Wooooo!!!! #15 goes down in B-Town! This easily has to be one of the greatest weekends ever in IU athletics with Eric Gordon, Hoosier Hysteria, and today with the win over Iowa. Ridiculous. BTW Heads, Bob Sanders and Dallas Clark were on the sideline. -

QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) I havent really kept up with the whole Gordon situation with the Illini and Indiana.Whats the latest? Are the Illini gonna loose this kid to IU?That would suck considering how hard it has been for the krush to recruit top tier players. He's committed to Indiana. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) How did D.J. White look tonight? Anyone think he can stay healthy this year? He was great all night. He's strengthened up big time since last season, adding 20 pounds of muscle. He had some nice dunks, though he wasn't in the contest. It was pretty funny, there were a lot of misses in the dunk contest. Sampson ended up getting on the mic, and saying Wilmont was the winner by default and he wanted to see some real dunks. He calls DJ and AJ over, and tells them to show him what a real dunk was. DJ ends up doing a monster slam. AJ did an '06 version of what won him the contest last year: a slam going over DJ, Xavier, and I think the third was Calloway. That was sweet to see in person. And for DJ's health, I believe he can stay healthy. He never had a history of injuries before last year, and both injuries were completely unrelated. They were just bad breaks, literally and figuratively. It would be great to see him stick around to play a year with EJ; however, if he plays remotely close to how he did freshman year, he's an NBAer. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 01:29 AM) IU being Illinois or Indiana... sorry i dont know all the abbreviations im more of a proffesional sports fan than college but i enjoy watching both. IU is Indiana (University) and UI is (the University of) Illinois. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 01:00 AM) The last thing Ozzie needs is a rookie bench coach by his side, that ship has sailed. Ozzie has proven that he does not have what it takes to be a competent in game manager so what he really needs is a grizzled old vet by his side on the bench who can get in his ear in tough managerial situations and keep him from totally f***ing it up. The sad thing is I'm basically describing Joe Nossek, it's a damn shame he felt the need to retire. How much experience did Baines have as a bench coach before '05? Heh, I just had to f*** up your argument, but I agree.

We had a good 14,000+ in AH tonight. It was fun, as it was the first I attended (tests freshman year and game 3 of the ALCS last year). EJ got a nice chant from the crowd and acknowledged everyone; that was pretty sweet. Sampson's little speech to kick off the men's portion was great. He definitely has EVERYONE in his corner now, and everything else was pretty fun. I may update more later. Here's a fun pic from the night: -
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) I'm not buying this explanation for one minute, and i don't think any IU fans do either, for that matter. To say Gordon was 'locked' is beyond wrong. We have our disagreements, but I'll agree with you there. I continued to believe he was going to Illinois, until I heard concrete evidence otherwise. However, since about August or so, it's really felt like it was a 50/50 on where he'd end up.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) Oh please Greasy, ever heard of a guy named Jay Payton? That is the perfect guy to have after Frank....... You got me there.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) I just hope when people keep clamouring for Frank Thomas and rip Thome, they remember that Frank is 0 for 10 in the ALCS. And his team is down 3-0. Just like he was 0 for 9 in the ALDS in 2000 and his team lost 3-0. Frank basically is their offense. He doesn't have anyone the stature of Dye and Konerko in the lineup with him. They weren't going to be successful scoring runs, if Frank got cold.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) I thought they moved Harold to first and Rock to the bench because Harold was leaving at the end of the year. Of course, I could be misremembering things. I'd dig up the thread, but I'm far too lazy. That's what I remember too.
